Posting PDF files on iweb

I would like to add some pdf files on my website, how do I do this?
I appreciate the help.
Many thanks
Stan

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Do you want to add them so they can be read? If so you can use the method used in this demo page: Scrolling Text Box. It's good for pdf files with more than one page.
If you want a pdf file for downloading by visitors zip the pdf file in the Finder
and add a hyperlink on your page using the Inspector/Link/Hyperlink pane selecting link to +A file+. That will download that zipped pdf file when the hyperlink is selected.
A one page PDF file can be dragged onto an iWeb page, resized as needed, for viewing by visitors.;

  • PDF files in iWeb

How can you put PDF files into iWeb so people can download and print them. (I am a teacher and want my students to be able to download my notes.)
    Thanks for your help!

In general, you can hyperlink a file by setting it up in iWeb Inspector's Link tab as "Link To: A File. The following video tutorial shows an example of a PDF document being linked for downloading, but it can alternatively be an MP3 or other file:
    http://www.apple.com/findouthow/web/iweb08.html#tutorial=nav
Note that you won't be able to test the hyperlink in iWeb itself — only after publishing will you be able to test the hyperlink in a browser.
A PDF hyperlinked in iWeb as "A File" will open in the current browser window/tab. At the bottom of this test page (not mine) there are a couple of text links to PDFs — click on them and see what happens...

...In Safari 3, you can move the cursor to the bottom of the PDF page to display a small black control window.

  • Problem posting pdf's in iWeb podcast...

I have created an iWeb site to share lecture audio and video with my students. This has worked extremely well without any problems. But recently I tried to start adding pdf's to the podcast so they could see the lecture slides, notes, etc on their Touches or iPhones and iTunes does not see them on the Podcast feed. This is driving me nuts.
My usual method has been first to record the lecture audio, tweak it and add it to the podcast via iWeb. No problem. As a second step my students wanted the slides to look at on their Touches or iPhones while they listened. So after posting the audio, I started opening my lectures in Keynote "Share"ing them to iWeb as pdf's, then selecting the same podcast for a destination - iWeb creates a new entry with the pdf centrally located and everything. Should work perfectly right? Wrong.
The PDF is definitely viewable online so I'm sure it's being uploaded to the server. It's just the iTunes step that's breaking down, and my students can't podcast the pdf's on their Touches or iPhones.
I believe I'm adding the pdf's correctly - either sharing them directly from Keynote, or dragging and dropping them onto the single media placeholder, etc. Nothing works.
In desperation I've even tried creating a new podcast page for JUST the pdf's and iTunes doesn't see those pdf's either. I get the "there are no downloadable files at the url" message. However, I can then drop an audio or video file into that new podcast and iTunes sees it immediately, downloads it as usual, etc. So it's only with pdf's which I thought iTunes was able to podcast without difficulty.
I heard that iTunes 9 had some early trouble with pdf's but it was supposed to be fixed with last update.
Does ANYONE out there have any suggestions or fixes for this?
    Please!?

My problem exactly. I have successfully combined video podcasts and teaching notes on the same podcast page and up to now they have worked brilliantly. Suddenly this does not work. The .pdf files don't come in to iTunes? Can anyone help me to resolve this?

  • Embedding a pdf file in iWeb on a remote server

I am having no success in embedding a compressed/zip pdf file in my website using iWeb. When I upload the page it reverts the link of the file to www.apple.com/support -
If I add the same file in a new site on my mobileme account it works
Is it not possible to embed files on remotes servers using iWeb?
    Would appreciate your feedback!

You can embed files this way using "Link to: A file" in the link inspector but this is not the best way as the file has to load with the web page and therefore slows the page download in the browser.
Create a download folder, put your zipped PDFs into it and upload it to your server. On the webpage, create a text of hyperlink to the file.....
    http://www.website.com/DownloadFolder/FileName.pdf.zip
When clicked in the browser this link will cause the file to be downloaded to the viewer's desktop.
    Read more about this here....

  • Updating pdf files in iweb site

I have a site with several pdf files linked throughout the site. These pdf's get updated regularly, and I assumed that if I replace them with a new file named the same, it would update on the website. Strangely it does not.
The only way I can get the pdf links to go to the new document is to break the link and then re-establish it. Even though the old file doesn't exist any more (has been replaced), it still persistently shows up.
While I can continue to do this, it is tedious as multiple documents are linked on multiple pages throughout the site.
Have tried publish and publish all. Is their any way to force iweb to use the new pdf files, or is there a different way to link them in the first place?
The whole idea was so that multiple people could upload content to my public folder (schedules, lists, etc) in pdf and update the info without having to mess with the site.

Instead of creating a hyperlink and then choose a file, put the pdf(s) on the server yourself first.
Create a separate folder for them.
Then determine the URL(s) to the file(s).
In iWeb add a hyperlink *to an external page*. Use one of the URLs to the pdfs.
Now you can update the pdf without iWeb.

  • Pdf file on iweb site?

Can I insert a pdf document to be downloaded from my iweb site?
    Thanks

Yes you can, and I don't think you have to concern yourself with iDisk. Here's what iWeb's Help viewer says:
    To create a hyperlink:
Select the text or object you want to turn into a hyperlink.
If the Link Inspector isn’t open, click Inspector in the toolbar (or choose View > Show Inspector), and then click the Link Inspector button.
In the Link Inspector, select “Enable as a hyperlink,” and then choose "A File" option from the Link To pop-up menu:
A File: Downloads a file to the visitor’s computer. (The file is part of your website; visitors won’t have access to your computer.)<<< </div>
    ...Choose your PDF file.
Note: The downloadability won't be apparant in iWeb - only when you've published the site will you be able to click on the link in a browser and test that the PDF downloads correctly.

  • How to show a multi-page PDF file on iweb?

    Hi everyone,
I'm building a website where I am showing a catalog design I did for my previous company. It was designed using Indesign and exported into PDF file. Then I saved the first page as JPEG file, inserted the JPEG file into iweb, and then enabled the JPEG image as a link to the PDF file of the catalog. I thought by this way I can let future employers to download the PDF file and view my design work. However I figured if I put my website link on places like Monster.com, anybody can see it, download it, and just steal or print out my work. I realized this is not a right way to do since my previous company should have the right of the design work. Any suggestions? Is there anyway I can let viewers only view the PDF file on the web browser without being able to download it? How should I do to display the whole catalog in a neat wey using iweb? Thank you very much in advance!!

James I know you meant no harm, and I have to say if
it wasn't for you I wouldn't be this far in the game.
So if I have javascript on my website and your
company has javascript disabled, my site wouldn't be
very interesting to you on your work computer? What
is the benefit of disabling javascript?
Thanks. I'm glad I didn't cause any bad feelings.
My company is very paranoid when it comes to IT. I guess it's the common PC world where you are once bitten, twice shy. We just upgraded all of computers to Windows 2000 !!! haha.
I think there must be (or must have been at one time) some vulnerability associated with javascripts on websites and that's why it's disabled. Crazy, isn't it?

  • Is it possible to hyperlink a PDF file within iWeb?

i understand the fact that the pdf file is on my computer and other users cannot access the file; however, the reason i made the pdf in the first place was to keep it off of iweb. i feel as if iweb slows down and/or generally has problems digesting larger files. my real question is: what do i need to do to my pdf file in order to make it accessible to those trying to access it off of iweb?
any help would be greatly appreciated–this is for my design portfolio and the sooner it's online, the sooner i get paid!

  • Can a contribute user post PDF files?

We are considering using Contribute for content providers.  Our content customers post a number of PDF files for content.  Can they do that on their own or do we have to post them in dreamweaver or another program?  Right now we make their memos into a pdf file (Using adobe pro)  and then post it on the internet or intranet.  We are hoping that by using contribute the content customer will be able to post the pdf file on the internet/intranet themselves.

If you want to insert pdf documents inside a web page, you can edit the web page in Contribute, and insert the pdf document into it, by clicking Insert -> PDF Document, and select My Computer (if the pdf document is on your computer). Contribute provides two options of inserting pdf, to embed the pdf document in the web page or insert as a link to the document. Publish the page. The pdf document is also published alongwith the web page.
The pdf document is published to 'documents' folder in your website.
Alternatively, you can publish pdf documents directly to your website using File -> Publish File from My Computer. Select the pdf document you want to publish, and select your website, and folder in your website (where you want to publish it), and click Publish. The pdf document will be posted to your website.
    Hope this helps. Cheers.

  • ,pdf files not showing in iTunes podcast

I have always successfully included .pdf files as accompanying notes for my students' enhanced podcasts. It's always worked very smoothly and well - up to Feb 2009. Since then this function has ceased to be successful. I have had to create a separate page in my iWeb site for downloading .pdf files. Its a real pain for students as they can't get thei9r notes simultaneously with the podcast lecture. Can anyone please advise? Thanks

I am having the same problem with iWeb. This feature used to work. I confirmed that this is not an iTunes issue because I am successfully posting PDF files from another podcast publishing tool and it shows up as intended fine iTunes.

  • Creating bookmarks in a PDF file

I know that Adobe Acrobat Professional has the ability to create bookmarks in PDF files. Is there another maybe free solution that I could use to create bookmarks in PDF files? I need to be able to post PDF files on my web site that have bookmarks in them so that users can quickly go to a specific page.
Looking forward to alternatives that I may be able to use.

Aw man, I didn't know that. But you're right. It doesn't cause Save to be available and they don't show up in Acrobat Reader. That's lame.
I never looked into that before because I have Acrobat.

  • Post PDFs online for continuing education credits

Does anyone have a recommendation for a program, other than Moodle, that can be used to post PDFs online for a continuing education course? I understand that Moodle is difficult to use and I need something easy to use and reasonable price.

If all you want to do is post pdf files, then any ftp client will do that. Most isp will allow you to setup your space for either ftp or http. If you upload your files, then anyone with a web browser or ftp client will see a list of files they can download. If you want something more sophisticated, then you can use either BBEdit ($49 educational) or Dreamweaver ($199 educational) to create a very very simple website. There are plenty of programs for creating a website with price points below BBEdit or between BBEdit and Dreamweaver.
Google will provide you with a free website and tools for creating content and space for uploading your pdf files. The cost is pretty good as well $0.00.

  • Wish to post KeyNote file as pdf. Export from KN to iW not working

Wish to post KeyNote file as pdf. Export from KN to iW not working - get blank screen. Tried to upload PDF to mobile me and link to that file - also didn't work. I'm not familiar with iFrames but have read about them in this forum - is that my only option? Why wouldn't a KN export work?
    Thanks, Brian

I have just tried this with a test site and publishing to a folder and it does work perfectly for me.
I had a Keynote document already so all I did was click on File and then selected the Print option. I then selected the save as pdf option the the pdf document was created on my desktop instantly.
All I then did was open iWeb and type some words in a text box My Prices. I then highlighted My Prices and opened the Inspector and went to Hyperlink and clicked on the option Hyperlink to a file. I then selected the pdf file from my desktop.
I then used ftp to a folder on my desktop and when I opened the appropriate page, I click on the words My Prices and the pdf file opened straight away.
As OT has suggested, check that you have linked to the correct file. If it does not work, either you have not created the pdf correctly or at all or you have not linked to the correct file.
As I said, it worked for me.

  • How do I link to a .pdf file in a blog post?

I have a created a new blog post and want to link to a .pdf file.  I have the file loaded to the file manager but when I click on the link icon in the editor the only files that show up are web pages.
Is there a way to link to a file other than setting up the link other than writing the HTML by hand?

I totally agree with you on the confusion of that form for the literature module. Even after I have used it a lot I still find myself trying to upload the file at the same time. As you say - it only makes sense. But you'll get used to it. ;-)
As far as the module way of doing it instead of coding it in, there is so much more flexibility this way. In your example you have one document which isn't bad ... but what if you had to list 100 documents in your page that are located in several different locations on the server? Now it's a simple task of adding one tag and your done.
    Other advantages:
1: Your documents can be found in the site search
2: Recods and displays file type and size to the viewer so they can choose to download it or not.
There is more but after years of the individual code way, I so love this Literature Module and the flexibility it gives.
