Posting Podcast file to user blog entry

Hello,
I have a Apple Xserve (originally running Tiger) that was running a blog for some podcasting training that I was doing with some faculty at our high school. Faculty could subscribe to the podcast/blog in iTunes using the link provided for them automatically on the blog page. This was working fine and would update the podcast subscription for the faculty user as postings were added.
I got my Leopard cd in the mail for the Xserve. The faculty were ready for students (high school seniors) to start working/posting podcasts, the next step for podcasting in our district. I took an afternoon and did the Leopard install in hopes that we might also use the wiki/shared calendar offerings available in Leopard.
I did a standard install for the Leopard server, set up the users and groups, and then starting posting to the newly created user blogs. In the blog for the seniors, I enabled the podcast blog setting. The blog shows a Subscribe in iTunes link which opens iTunes and subscribes the visitor to the podcast. However, it will not load any of the podcast/blog entries into iTunes.
With the help of John Slaughter at Notre Dame, I was able to see that apparently the RSS feed is not parsing the "Subscribe to iTunes" URL correctly. John noticed that "Well, Safari agrees that it's an RSS feed. Not a valid one, but it does load. I wonder what's up with the " <div class="wiki_entry">" in the source code (which gets parsed out to div class="wiki_entry" in the browser.) Are they pasting the Quicktime HTML code into the body of the blog itself or using the upload feature? Because the blog will convert all "<"
On a related note, when posting a new entry to a blog, I cannot use the Podcast upload feature to upload the podcast file. It just hangs. I can add the file to the blog post by using the "Insert images, audio, or Quicktime movies" button in blog entry area.
You can see the blog here
http://podcast.forrest.k12.ms.us/users/nfhsseniors/blog/
I would appreciate any direction/advice on how to 1) get the Podcast upload to work, and 2) get the iTunes subscription to start pulling in the postings. I want to get this available and publicized soon so that our students can show off their work publicly.
Thanks,
Dane

Hi Dane,
I have exactly the same problem. Plus I'm finding it difficult to make progress... Sounds as though we were the same - happily running podcasts under the old system. Upload a file and use RSS Podcast to subscribe. Apparently this was running software called Blojsom.
Apple have changed to their own stuff. It was even difficult for me to find where the old blogs were and to reinstate them - but at least I got them up, trouble is now iTunes won't work because of the RSS feed problem. In fact as the RSS is now so well hidden away it gives me a headache as I had a lot of other things using it - even a mobile phone service linked to the podcast..
Now I can't subscribe or post a podcast up - I get a spinning wheel while it says it's uploading the podcasting material and stops at that. I have all the the right settings switched on to podcast etc, and followed all the other stuff about DNS to the letter.
One of our issues is that we are not using podcast producer (so I found nothing in that discussion group) - which is an automated workflow make-a podcast-as-you-go type thing, we just want to put up a media file (mp4 etc) and have it podcast. Yep it still shows the blog:
http://podcast.ycoastco.ac.uk/users/admin/
but it no longer podcasts or accepts files to be podcast.
I'm sorry that this is no help apart from empathy across the atlantic but I do have a good Apple guy looking at it for me - I'll keep you posted.
kind regards
Mick

  • Podcast capture to User blog pages?

    Hi All
It's probably related to workflows but I'm still getting my head around PcP interacting with blog server.
PcP publishes podcast created from podcast capture to a group blog page. no probs.
What I'm not getting is how to tell Pc Capture to post the created podcast to a User blog page. I can change the publishing location by changing the "Group Short Name" in the PcP pane of server admin. This is not a very multiple user friendly.
It would make sence to me that if you log in to Pc Capture as "User X" that the default post would be applied to User X's Blog page.
Is there any way of making Pc producer behave like this? Or does it already do this and I'm just being silly?
    Thanks All

I've been working on this on and off for a couple weeks and here's where I sit.
As of 10.5.4 the pcastaction command has a userblog option which takes the following flags.
    --basedir=BASEDIR --serverurl=SERVERURL --title=TITLE
    --username=USERNAME --pcastserver=PCASTSERVER --otp=OTP
    (--content=CONTENT | --contentfile=CONTENTFILE)
    [--authorize=AUTHORIZE] [--outfile[=OUTFILE]]
Now if I try and use the Group administrator information for username or otp then it exits with and error. If I put my information in for username I don't know what or how to set the otp.
Has any body else figure out how to deal with the otp flag?
    Thanks,
    Derek

  • Duplicate User Blog Entries

When I post a user blog two identical entries end up on the users blog page. If I try to delete one of them, both are deleted.

I will try to clarify my question a bit further after spending more time with it. My first thought of trouble shooting was to see how the bugs from the previous update to 10.5.3 might have affected the recent update to 10.5.4. After the 10.5.3 update I was left with a corrupt Open Directory which meant that I could not access the wiki page or user blogs. Once I recreated the OD I made a new wiki page and new user blogs. Things seemed to work. After the 10.5.4 update the duplicate user blogs bug started happening. To fix the problem I first logged in as "root" and went to the /library/collaboration/users and deleted the old entries -- that didn't work. I then logged onto the blog and tried to delete the blog entry -- I can only delete the content of the user blog. Then I try to "create a blog" and it creates yet another blog -- for the same user. I now have three blog for the same user -- and if I add content in one all three have the same content.

  • Is it possible to delete a users blog list without having to delete the entire user profile?

    Hello,
The problem I have is that a users blog entries have become corrupted, if you view his entries the page displayed is completely unrendered.
I'm not able to add a screen shot, but imagine if you will a loaded page, with no formatting, basically a plain html page, if that makes any sense!
If I or anyone else look at his blogs, the pages once again look unrendered, if he looks at another persons blog, it renders fine. So, it just looks like his (and his alone) blog list has some how or other been corrupted.
Is there a way to just delete the blog without having to delete his entire profile and get him to start all over again? The user doesn't mind losing his blog entries but would rather not have his whole profile deleted.
    Thanks

    Hi,
There will be a “Post” list in that user’s MySite storing all the blogs that below to that user, we can delete all the blogs in that list if with sufficient permission in that
    user’s MySite.

  • Thanks for technique to reorder blog entries!

I have to say THANK YOU to whoever it was who posted the technique for reordering blog entries. My blog at http://www.kitguitarbuilder.com would not have served the purpose without it.
It is simply to redo the date bar with a fictitious series of dates: The entries you want at the beginning need to have the latest dates. I started with 12/31/08 -- each subsequent entry has a date one day earlier, so that the second one is 12/30/08, and so on. The cool thing is this: Click off of the date bar, highlight the fictitious date, then enter any text you desire for a subtitle (but not a date if it is in an iWeb accepted format; if it's not in an iWeb date format, you can use the "real" date if you want because iWeb won't recognize it as a date and won't use it for prioritizing entries). After changing the date bar entry, iWeb will still use the original ficititious date you entered for the ordering of the entries.
Thanks again: Now my guitar buiding blog is in the correct order!

Alter the dates in the entry pane - that is the only way I have found to do this.

  • How do I list a 10.5 server user blog/podcast on iTunes Store?

It may be simple but even Enterprise support sent me here to ask.
I just had to reinstall my entire server thanks to the 10.5.6 update. I had a blog setup before as a static website and manually updated it using iWeb and then <ugly> I added all the iTunes RSS tags by hand.</ugly>
This time I want to rebuild it using the web-services "user blog" in OSX server.
I have it up now, I made a user named "podcast" and he has a user blog/podcast. Everything works fine with iTunes clients directly subscribing from our blog page. But how do I get him listed on the iTunes store? Can I keep my current (before the crash) listing at the iTunes store and just point it to the new location?
I do not see where to insert the iTunes RSS tags into the new user blog, I have poked around the collaboration folder to no avail.
    Thanks for the help!

Your new feed appears to be valid in format, but the URLs given in the 'enclosure' tags, which locate the media files for iTunes, won't work: an example is http://10.0.0.2//users/podcast/weblog/57eb8/images/a668e.mov
You need to give the full URL, accessible to the outside world. You can check the validity of a feed by using the 'Advanced' menu in iTunes and choosing 'subscribe to podcast'. This subscribes you to the feed without involving the iTunes Store.
The process for moving the feed, given in the link I gave you, needs you to have a valid feed at the old address, with the added 'itunes:new-url' tag, and a valid (ideally identical apart from that tag) feed at the new URL: obviously the old feed must be maintained until iTunes has switched to the new one (expect it to take several days). If both feeds are correct the process is seamless.
When iTunes has switched it will be reliant on the new feed, so this needs to contain all the necessary information: if you are using something built into OSX Server to make your podcast I can't advise on that and you could try the forum as I mentioned above.

  • Removing some pages/files/archived blog entries with in a website

I noticed on my iDisk there are pages/files/old blog entries that I had removed from my iWeb (on my computer, saved and then published to .Mac). I am getting close to running out of room on my .Mac/iDisk account that is why I saw that there were old pages still on the iDisk/.Mac that I thought I had removed. How do I completely remove these pages/files/old blog entries I no longer need or want?

    Hi Peter...
Not sure what is going on here... but I do notice a mistake in the RSS.xml feed URL. When you publish to folder in iWeb, be sure to enter in the domain name of our site. Now in your case, you are uploading to a subdirectory "iwebrats", so you need to include that as well. So in the URL field box in the Publish to Folder window, you should be entering: http://www.petermaher.com/iwebrats/ This will ensure that iWeb generates a valid RSS/podcast feed URL for your site.
Now on to your blog errors....it's behaving like you didn't upload the blog entry at all. When you do a publish to folder, iWeb will lay down two things inside this folder.... an index.html page and a folder (named after your site and containing a bunch of files associated with it). These are the two things that you should be uploading to your "iwebrats" subdirectory. You need to upload both items WITHOUT the enclosing folder. So when you look at your "iwebrats" subdirectory in your FTP program, you should see the index.html program and your sitefolder. Don't take anything out of the sitefolder...just upload it as is. Upload the two items as is, keeping the index.html file outside the site folder.
Go back and double check your uploading. Maybe re-FTP things. I think you will see that your site will work.

  • Post wiki/blog entries from iphone?

i gather from what i have read of the docs, that the default presentation of blogs and wikis on the iphone is read-only.
i'm wondering if i might be able to pick up a blog-editing tool (along the lines of ecto or something, but simpler and for the iphone) that would make it possible to make quick posts - i.e. to take a photo or video and post it to a blog from the iphone with a short caption.
i'm kind of surprised that apple chooses to feature "iphone support" on the page describing the snow leopard collaboration services, but that their idea of supporting the iphone is so limited - especially since when they introduced the iphone 3GS, they demo'd uploading videos to youtube.
anyone have any ideas? i see in the wikiserver documentation that the server is supposed to support the AtomPub and MetaWebLog API's, but then i don't see any mention of support for apple-snow-leopard-wiki-server (what is it actually called anyway?) in the documentation of any tools in the itunes store.
Blogwriter - bad reviews. no mention of supporing os x server wikis/blogs.
Wordpress - right idea, but afaik, this works only for wordpress blogs?
Blog with iBlogger! - by the folks who do ecto for the mac. looks vaguely promising, but does not list support for 10.6 server blogs and has mix of positive/negative reviews. also costs $10.
Blog Press - similar in scope to Blog with iBlogger!. $3. some bad reviews.

Is it possible to add a new blog entries from an iPhone ?
No, you can't do anything to an iWeb blog without using iWeb. Use something else for your blog.

  • Posting mp3 file on blog page (iweb)

    Hello,
Hopefully, someone can help me. I have posted a mp3 file on my blog. It plays fine on iweb, but once published, does not play if viewed from the Internet. Can someone help? Thanks!

I appreciate the input, but I'm not sure it explains why that one link does not work. When I do finally publish the site (for real) on the internet, the tunes will be reduced to smaller sound clips, and not the whole song. The full-song version will be burned to disc, and handed out to industry folks at a trade show. It will take the place of a standard press kit. Right now, I'm just using this to show my clients, and get the thing working right. None of us can figure out why that one song won't play. But thanks so much for taking the time to look at it.

  • IWeb: Post Blog Entries By Reverse Date

I'm making a class web page with a blog entry for each lecture... as it is, the most recent entry (as in, the last lecture) displays first and the first lecture displays last. Any way to fix this?

it would help if we could see the messed up pages. otherwise we can only guess what's happening. my guess is that you have somehow dropped the content into the header making the header really big and thus why you can't move the blog all the way up. a way to check is to show the layout. and see if there's a grey line above where the blog is sitting.

  • How to delete a blog entry in Lion Server Wiki?

Anyone know how to do this?  It seems that even logged in as system administrator you cannot delete blog entries using the web interface.
Wiki help unhelpfully reports that "If Delete Page or Delete File isn't listed, you can't delete the page or file.".  Really?
Thanks in advance for any help avail.

The above works most of the time, but sometimes User accounts can be stubborn.  I setup an admin account, perhaps unecessarily, when installing lion on a new solid state hard drive.  After migrating my original Admin account over from the hard drive I had difficulty in removing the newly created Admin (method: I clicked the minus and deleted the home folder, checking 'erase home folder securely') which resulted in the acct. being downgraded to Standard.  Still it would show up at startup login screen.  Although logging in to this account (to attempt to logout and then reattempt the delete) was not possible (never ending spinning beachball - not what you want with 20G RAM and a top end SSD).
    Then I found this -

  • Linking to Adobe PDF on blog entry crashing iWeb

Help! I have been using iWeb to create a website and blog. In a recent blog entry, i linked to an Adobe PDF file on my computer. The link was functioning and working fine, and then I saved the entry and iWeb crashed. I managed to open it back up by sending photos from iPhoto to iWeb. The other pages of the website work fine, and other blog posts also work fine. I tried publishing and the site published. However, in both iWeb and online, the blog post with the linked PDF is now just blank. The PDF works fine on its own and is not corrupted.
I have tried editing the post as well as deleting it in iWeb, but every time I click either button iWeb crashes and gives me an error message. I cannot duplicate the blog post either. This would somehow be okay, but I cannot add a new blog entry in iWeb either (it crashes). other pages are unaffected. I have not attempted deleting the entire blog portion of the website yet. Is there anything I can do to get rid of the malfunctioning blog post besides deleting the whole website and starting from scratch? Bear in mind the back-up of the Domain I saved was after I saved the blog post. Is there a 3rd party app that I can open my Domain in to manually remove the blog entry, or someway to access the code to delete the data that way?

This JUST happened to me as well after linking to a PDF file but now I can't get iWeb to load up, well, it opens and I can see the inspector pane but that is all...the main window is not there and I can't seem to figure out how to get it.
I also noticed a bunch of iWeb stuff in the trash now in a "recovered files" folder.
    Any ideas?

  • IWeb losing, and then corrupting photos in Blog entries

I have an odd problem, and really need some help!
I've been posting blog entries with pictures at the end of the text for many months now (over 150 entries), and only recently have run across this problem. After creating a new blog entry, I post the site, and after the site is published, will go to the site and see that the picture in the blog index is fine, but when anyone visits the page of that blog entry, the pictures at the end of the text are gone, and the picture at the start of the blog has a box with an X in it. When I go back into iWeb, the file will either be fine, or will have the X and all of my past posts will have it as well. When I try to re-drag the picture in, it is saying the picture is corrupt. Yet somehow, the next day on the web, the pictures magically appear and all seems fine (after trying to republish several times). This has happened for the past week or so, but seems to be worse as of late.
I don't know if this is because of occassional connection outages (which seem to happen fairly often) and pictures not completely loading, even though iWeb thinks they are, or if this is from problems on the .mac servers, or problems on my computer with iWeb. I've tried quitting and rebooting, which worked the first time or two that this happened, but no longer helps.
It's one thing if iWeb is not working correctly, but if this is now corrupting my photos in iPhoto, this is a serious defect! Apple, PLEASE make the next version more stable - we're I just getting started and seeing this, I would have dumped iWeb, but after 4 months and many many entries, it is not easy to move this to a TypePad or other site.
iMac 24"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   MacBook Pro, 5.5G iPod Video, G4 Titanium Powerbook

I'm having this same problem. Is this a known bug?
On my iWeb site, the pictures in my blog keeping getting "corrupted" and are unusable, and the only way I can get iWeb to accet them again is to export them from iPhoto, do a save-as, and re-import them into iPhoto.
Please tell me there is some sort of fix.

  • Iweb 08 - missing blog entries

All of a sudden, my website, hosted on mobilme has stopped showing the blog entries. I have tried uploading new content to the site and everything shows up just fine on my idisk where it should be, but the master page and archive page of the blog show no entries in Safari. Strangely, if you click the RSS feed, everything is where it should be and you can leaf through the blog pages that way. This is an old site which has worked without issue (except for the infamous transition period). I have made no procedural or structural changes to the site at all. Everything looks fine in iWeb. Any ideas why this would happen?
    Thanks
    RDD

It is a known bug in iWeb. Whenever I make a change or add a post, even in an other site or blog, then the whole blog summary is wiped out or has misplaced images. If you upload the changes, then your site will be damaged on the internet.
So whatever you do in iWeb and you have a blog, you always have to check all your other blogs to see if things are still as they should be.
After each change or addition my rss feed is ruined.
It is time Apple started paying attention to these signals.
Please in all cases send feedback to Apple. This is a recurring problem. If they don't fix it the blog part of iWeb is pretty useless, at least for me and many other users.
