Postion of UDS relative to Firewall

Hi All,
We have an requirement that all the systems communicating to DCS and QCS should be through the firewall.
where to install UDS( which commnicates to DCS and QCS)so that firewall should not affect the communication between xMII server and UDS?
few things that in place are
1. xMII server
2. OPC server( on this i belive that UDS and firewall layer will be there)
3. Various DCS systems which communicates to OPC server?
Kindly Suggest
Regards
Rupesh Bajaj

For performance and technical issue avoidance the UDS should be installed as close to the datasource as possible and therefore behind the firewall.
Communication between the UDS instance(s) and the xMII server are simply on a TCP/IP port of your choice, so configuring the firewall to allow this port level communication should be easy to do.  With the undlying data source particular API's, potential for DCOM issues, etc., having this behind the firewall will be to your advantage.
Regards,
Jeremy

I'm not running any firewall software.  This error started after I ugraded from Win 7. to Win 8.1
Is there something in 8.1 that needs to be configured to allow the OS to scan.  Printing works just fine.
    Help is appreciated.

I have the exact same problem, beginning on the same date as you! I also have W8.1, but it worked for a month after the upgrade without a problem so I don't think it is a Windows issue. Did you receive any response from HP? I tried to use windows Scan and Fax as an alternative but received a similar "unable to communicate with scanner" message. Rob

  • Firewall problem in domain environment

I have built two domains for testing purposes. Having deployed domain controllers, exchange servers, sccm/scom servers, sql servers along with some client computers I noticed that I had problems accessing some of servers/clients - I could not manage
some of them directly with manage command from domain controller or access them via unc path. Some of them I could not ping neither. I was able to solve these problems by changing inbound firewall rules on these machines thus
allowing some connections such as smb-in, dcom-in . . . In my production environment (I have been working there as system engineer for almost seven years) I have never had these problems - any domain member, whether it has been server or client, was easily
accessible (managed from dc, unc, ping, . . .). I could deploy GPO with all necessary settings for inbound rules but it should be done automatically - as soon as machine is joined to the domain it must be accessible by using at least common protocols such as
dcom, smb for managing or simple file copy operation. I checked my production environment again and there were no GPOs for altering default firewall settings on domain member computers so I have no idea why this is happening in my testing domains.

No one but me has access to these machines. Also Symantec Endpoint Protection software is installed on these machines as it is the case with my production machines where everything is functioning flawlessly - as I mentioned I can access all my machines
in production domain via computer management, smb, ping . . . One of my test domains has FFL/DFL Windows Server 2008 R2,  the same as my production domain, the other one has FFL/DFL Windows Server 2012 R2 and it is created for learning purposes. As I
said, in both test domains, all domain computers have SEP installed - the same version and configuration as on my production machines. I have not done anything related to firewall in my test domains on problematic machines - I installed OS on them, joined
to the domain, installed SEP and afterwards I have worked with specific product machine was created for - SCCM/SCOM, Exchange, SQL . . . servers and their clients.

  • Ports for Firewall in Leopard

I have a question about how to open ports in Leopard's firewall. I have been having issues with iChat AV and Sightspeed that point to Leopard's firewall settings, but I am at a loss as to how to set ports.
I have a long history of trying to make iChat AV work for myself and for my friends and family, and I have long used the very helpful tips and suggestions provided by Ralph Johns and others. My current situation is this: I recently upgraded my iMac G5 to Leopard, and have successfully used iChat AV with several contacts, both before and after the upgrade. A friend recently purchased a new Intel iMac, and we cannot use iChat AV, and I suspect it is an ISP port blocking issue on his end, which he is attempting to check out. Meanwhile, I have had him download Sightspeed, and we have successfully used it to video chat using my MacBook with Tiger. However, when I try to video chat using Sightspeed on my iMac G5 with Leopard, I get an "Error: 503" message, which Sightspeed says may be related to firewall issues. Previously, I have used Sightspeed successfully using my iMac G5 with Tiger, and without any configuration issues. Since my MacBook uses my wireless home network, and can connect with Sightspeed, and since my iMac G5 USED to connect with Sightspeed before Leopard, I am leaning towards Leopard's firewall as the culprit. I want to make sure Leopard's firewall is allowing both incoming and outgoing Sightspeed traffic, but I don't know how to configure the firewall. Of course, I am always open to other troubleshooting ideas.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions, Tom

The Leopard Firewall is now in System Preferences > Security.
The Allow Specifics setting needs to set anew if the 10.5.1 update has been done since any Allow Specifics was set.
It works on a application basis. Each app in the list is given what is called a Certificate by the OS and any ports it uses is then allowed.
So it needs to be set for iChat and Sightspeed.

  • Firewall for PC's

I have a general query related to firewall for small LAN. We have couple of PC's which connect to internet thru ADSL line. They want to access some resources of the Company's LAN by setting up another NIC on the PC and plugging it into our LAN. As its a security issue what is the most economical/secure way of achieving this with the use of firewall?
    Thanks

Firewall solutions for small business are available as either software or hardware (with software components). Software firewalls protect each individual PC they're installed on. But to protect all your company's computers, each must have a software firewall installed. It can be difficult to maintain.
On the other hand, hardware-based firewall solutions for small business protect all computers on your network. A hardware-based firewall is easier to administer, too.
The ideal firewall solutions for small business integrate a hardware firewall with software controls into a comprehensive security solution that includes virtual private network (VPN) support, antivirus, antispam, antispyware, and content filtering capabilities.

  • Firewall caused ORA-12528

I have installed Oracle DB 10g Release1 on a WinXPproSP2 machine for learning purpouses (for a college course). I have 1gb of ram and it worked quite well.
But I had a security problem (trojans mostly) and I had installed a firewall (http://www.jetico.com/). However after installing that firewall, when I try to login my SQL*Plus client says "ORA-12528: TNS Listener: All apropriate instances are blocking new connections"
I got rid of the trojans (i hope!) and I uninstalled the firewall, but the Database connection still does not work. I have not changed my Oracle configuration since installing, but my "OracleDBConsoleoracle" service does not start either (other Oracle Services work fine - at least from the Windows Services Console).
This is the error log from System-event log:
    Event Type:     Error
    Event Source:     Service Control Manager
    Event Category:     None
The OracleDBConsoleoracle service terminated with service-specific error 2 (0x2).
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
Are these errors connected or I have 2 distinct problems?
Would you advise me to uninstall Oracle?
UPDATE: I've made a search with the terms firewall and 12528 and it turns out this error could be related to firewall blocking some ports.; but i have disabled windows firewall (turns out i forgot about it) and it still does not work.

With zero substantive information about your environment, it is impossible to know for sure.
But, if you've just set SHARED_SERVERS=0, for example, and your tnsnames.ora has a line in it that says (SERVER=SHARED), then your client is demanding the use of shared servers which don't exist. You can therefore expect the sort of error you're getting.
The fix is to remove the explicit demand for shared servers in the tnsnames.ora. Just remove the line (or, not quite such good practice, set it to DEDICATED).

  • Changing firewall rules

I'm running Tiger and I'm trying to find out for someone using Leopard (who is not adept at using computers to learn themselves but also lives too far for me to go to their home and help) and they need to open a port so that he and I can play an online game together.
The only thing is, the System Prefs interface seems to have changed drastically and using anything I could find on google (even screenshots) I couldn't figure out how to add custom rules.
So I'll keep it really brief and ask if someone can either just explain quickly where to go to add a custom rule or if there's a help page? I've done searches but the internet is saturated with unrelated material.

This is from Mac Help in leopard:
Setting firewall access for services and applications.
Mac OS X includes a firewall: a security measure that protects your computer from connections initiated by other computers when connected to a network or the Internet. If you turn on a sharing service, such as file sharing, Mac OS X opens a specific port in the firewall for the service to communicate through. When you open the Firewall pane of Security preferences, any sharing services turned on in Sharing preferences, such as File Sharing or Remote Apple Events, appear in the list.
In addition to the sharing services you turned on in Sharing preferences, the list may include other services, applications, and programs that are allowed to open ports in the firewall. An application or program might have requested and been given access through the firewall, or might be signed by a trusted certificate and therefore allowed access.
IMPORTANT: Some programs have access through the firewall although they don’t appear in the list. These might include system applications, services, and processes. They can also include digitally signed programs that are opened automatically by other programs. You might be able to block these programs’ access through the firewall by adding them to the list.
To add an application to the list, select “Set access for specific services and applications” in the Firewall pane of Security preferences, click Add at the bottom of the list, and then select what you want to add. After the program is added, click its up and down arrows to allow or block connections through the firewall.
NOTICE: Blocking a program’s access through the firewall could harm the program or other programs that depend on it, or affect the performance of other applications and services you use.
When the system detects a connection attempt to a program that is not enabled in Security preferences or not signed, a dialog will ask you if you want to allow or deny access to the program. If you do not respond, the program is added to the list in the Firewall pane of Security preferences, and the access is set to “Allow only essential services.”

  • Flash File for ASA Firewall

can you anyone  provide the link for Flash type learning for ASA Firewall 5505.

    Hi,
To be honest I havent used that many online resources of the type you are after.
I would imagine that the CCNP Security - Firewall certification book current version would have a lot of usefull information related to the Cisco firewalls.
The CSC also has some videos related to firewalling
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/community/netpro/security/firewall?view=video
There is also the Cisco Live 365 site which has all the documents from the Cisco Live events around the world. You will need to register to get access to my understanding. There are also videos of the presentations there (atleast for some). Naturally the documents dont go deep into theory but they do have some helpfull information
    https://www.ciscolive365.com/connect/publicDashboard.ww
You can also find a lot of guide videos on Youtube for example like this one
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0ZnRmgINgE
Sadly I cant help you much in this case. I personally learnt most about the Cisco firewall the hard way, basically without any supporting material and education (we only had CCNA and CCNP Routing&Swithching wihtout any course on the PIX firewall that was in use at that time and ASAs were still new). Eventually I learned what I needed and nowadays I just tend to refresh information from documents and mostly refer to the ASA Configuration Guide and Command Reference if I need to check on some command or confirm how something worked.
    Hope this helps

  • Questions about BT Home Hub 4A event log - WIFI c...

Hope someone can help please ?
I had BT inifinity installed 2 weeks ago with the HH 4 (type A) and everything has worked - connection found, no problem.
This week, my ipod touch was unable to join the network but the iphone 5, another ipod and a tablet could connect without a problem. The ipod touch managed to connect to another WIFI used at the property and my work wifi without a problem.
I thought it maybe the ipod touch as it was quite old but that doesn't make sense since it connects fine to other networks.  I restored network settings and other options suggested by Apple but to no avail.
I have turned my attention to the Hub. My laptop (older than the ipod touch) gets the connection no problem along with the other devices.  I went into the hub management page but I am not smart enough to decifer the event log so would like some help so I can fix this because I thought BT infinity was the better more reliable option?
The ipod touch Wifi IP address is 00:25:00:b7:35:f6.
On the event log, it shows STA before the address - but it shows STA before all the device IP addresses. Should I change this to DCHP ? or is this (Static ? alright)
The Lease on all the devices on the event log is set to 1440 min. (1 day) is that alright too, what does it mean ?
Do I have to keep renewing the lease ? How do I do that ? I read it can be set to 21 days ?
Going back to the IP address on the ipod it shows the Hostname as 00:25:00:B7:35:f6-2 this is different to the IP address with the -2. Could that be a cause of the unable to join network or is it because I attempted to recreate the network on the ipod so its the second version of that host name ?
Is there any setting I can change to fix this because I am concerned the same this will happen to the other devices and then the laptop....
What do I need to do to be able to get my ipod touch to connect to the BT network setting ?
I think its the hub 4A causing the 'block' on the ipod touch not the device and I think its maybe a matter of changing a setting - but then why was it all fine before when Infinity was first installed ?
Lastly my laptop (7 Years old) seems to be attached to the 5GHZ Wireless channel - is that alright ? The other more recent devices are on the 2.4ghz channel (except the ipod touch which isn't on any !!)
Is it alright to turn the hub on / off ? -I am resisting that because I don't want to make the situation worse.
Sorry but what does client disassociated mean and all the BLOCKS - do they relate to firewall ?
Please can you review the event log and my questions ?
    Many thanks

It could be that the Ipod touch is having problems with both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies being named the same. If you give them separate SSids it may help. ie add a 5 to the 5GHz SSid.
If you do this you will need to re-connect all your devices that can see both frequencies to both SSids so that they will swap between the frequencies seamlessly when ever they need to
See link how to change SSid.
    http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/44504/related/1/session/L2F2LzEvdGltZS8xMzc1OTY2ODIxL...
Once you have changed the SSid I would delete the network connection on the Ipod touch and start again.

  • P95600 downloading RTF error

    Hello everybody,
I has uploaded a RTF file via P95600. It is attached with the report definition in P95620.
The objects were then deployed on PY900 to preview the BI Publisher report.
But it is ending in FX - XML Publisher Error.
I went on P95600 to check the RTF file, when i click on the line and then click on ROW > DOWNLOAD (W), it gives me an error in red.
I went on DV900 i got the same error.
Even if i uploaded the RTF file many times, and redeployed the objects, i get the FX error.
Can anyone help me on this issue please ?
    Thank you a lot.
    Rgds
    Lovvy

Nothing yet from Apple - just that they're investigating - clearly they're doing something with my account, as the rented movie now appears in Downloads as a new download (i.e. that I haven't downloaded previously) - whereas before it was stuck on "2.01 GB of 2.01 GB complete - stopped" and every time I tried to restart I got the 5060 message. Also I now have 2 copies of the movie in "Rentals" - but can't play either - one must be the original (i.e. when I try to play I get 5060) and one must be the new download.
BTW - I have paused the new download as when it was showing time as 2 hrs to download - so something is clearly still wrong...
I don't think it's related to Firewall - as I don't have anything specific set - and purchase download is ok.

The firewall is OFF in both client and server.
I saw a similar question and the answer is related to firewall which is not may case.

    Hi Mario,
According to your description, when you try to access the Report Manager in another client, a login dialog prompt. After typing a valid username and password 3 times, a blank page displays.
Generally, the issue is always caused by the Report Server is configured to use Kerberos authentication, while the Service Principal Name(SPN) is not configured correctly. To fix this issue, please refer to the following methods:
Register an SPN for the Report Server service under the domain user account.
Change the service account to run under a built-in account such as Network Service.
Remove RSWindowsNegotiate and ensure RSWindowsNTLM is specified in the rsreportserver.config file.
Besides, the issue can also be caused by the Internet Explorer (IE) didn't pass the user's credential to the Report Server automatically or the IE is not Windows Integrated enabled. For more detail steps about how to address this issue, please refer to the
    following steps:

  • Small Business Server 2011 Essentials Remote Web Access fails to connect to Windows 8.1 PC

I am using Remote Web Access (RWA) gateway with Small Business Server 2011 Essentials.
There are several workstations all running Windows 7, and have been using RWA without an issue for well over a year.
There is now a Windows 8.1 Pro PC added to this domain, but the Remote Desktop does not connect.
The Windows 8.1 PC appears in the RWA pages, It requests the credentials to connect, and then fails with the following error:
Remote Desktop can't find the remote computer "COMPUTERNAME". This might mean that the "COMPUTERNAME" does not belong to the specified network. Verify the computer name and domain that you are typing to connect to.
I can connect to all other PC fine (running Windows 7). I have tried from different locations and PC's and the results are the same.
I thought I had fixed this problem a few weeks back.  After running all updates on the server and Windows 8.1 PC, and rebooting both, the RDP worked, but I think it only worked once and then failed the next time someone tried to use it. I have not had
a successful connection to the Windows 8.1 PC since.
I am at a loss on how to troubleshoot this as there are no errors on the system which can't be accessed.
    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    Hi Mr Cheese,
    à
I turned off the Firewall on the Windows 8.1 PC and the RDP is now working.
Thanks for sharing in the forum. Your time and efforts are highly appreciated.
Based on your description, this issue is related to Firewall. Would you please let me know current situation
    of this issue?
Just addition. Please open Control Panel, select Windows Firewall and click Allow an app or feature through
Windows Firewall. Then please check if Remote Desktop is allowed. Meanwhile, please click Advanced settings in Windows Firewall panel and click Inbound Rules, then check if rules which be related to Remote Desktop were enabled.
If any update, please feel free to let me know.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Justin Gu

We are trying to connect to a system across the firewall. Could this problem be related to firewall settings. Or any other comments
    Thanks,
    Prateek

    Hi Prateek,
If this message is asynchronous then try to resend it. So even after resending if you still conter the system error then the error could be related to
    a) Incorrect Payload (Values given in the payload could be wrong )
    b) Applicaion Errr--- This error is generally related with translating, if the mapping condition dosent satisfy, it  will fail to get translated into SOAP message.
    So the solution could be
    a) Try to resend it
    b) Check the payload and Check the application realated with SOAP.
If u find it helpful, Kindly reward me with points

  • The CO account assignment object belongs to company code 2100, not 1100

    Hi All,
My system has all different company codes assigned to one cotrolling area as a result one can change org unit and position cost center from one company code to another.
I recently changed same position's cost center from co code 2000 to cost center in new  co code 1100 and created new personnel area to be linked to new Co code 1100. OM module doesn't moan however when I try and capture org-reassignment action to default same employee postion with new related cost center from new company code 1100 get the follwing error.
'The CO account assignment object belongs to company code 2100, not 1100'.
I see in IT0001 system defaults new personnel area linked to Co code 1100 however it still defaults old cost center linked to Co code 2000 instead of new cost center linked to Co code1100. How can I make the system default  new cost center?
NB relationship for new cost center  from Co code 1100 to postion has been changed effective 01.04.2012 . The same date is used for or-reassignment action.

Hi I had same problem can you explain me little bit more that how you will resolve this
