PostScript feeding to the WRONG printer tray

I've got a real quandry here. I have a system that runs mainly character mode reports, but a few bitmaps. They used to print to the same tray as the character mode reports. I use a perl script to print all reports to a postscript file, and then lpr them from the UNIX server to which ever client is using the system.
This has all worked fine, but now, as I said, the bitmap reports print to the wrong tray. I have check to see if the is an SRW.SET_PRINTER_TRAY in any of my reports, and there is not, so none of them manually specify to change trays, but I found this in a current printing of the bitmap:
%%BeginFeature: *InputSlot Upper
0 statusdict /setpapertray get exec
%%EndFeature
This is not in the older version of my reports.
Here is my current:
Oracle Toolkit Version 6.0.5.34.1 (Production)
My previous toolkit:
2.3.7.0.0 PRODUCTION
Maybe this is the problem?
Anyhelp would be great.

hello,
please try to print the report that is causing the problem alone.
and try to use the latest patch for 6.0 or even version 6i.
regards,

  • Is there a way to change the default print tray on an HP LaserJet 500 color M551 Printer

    Hi
Is there a way to setup the default print tray for a HP LaserJet 500 color M551 printer to be tray 2 printing both online and direct?
If so what would be the best way to go about implementing it?
    Thanks

Usually, you can change the default paper trays through the control panel and through the Embedded Web server (EWS).
Check the settings on your control panel. Here is a link to the User Guide, check out page 94 and see if that helps you out.
    m551 User Guide
For the EWS, put the printer IP address into your browser, then go to the tab that would list tray settings. Not sure exactly which tab has it for this printer series, but on other printer series it is on the system tab under paper setup.

  • Printing to the wrong printer

we have a small network at home with three Macs (all running 10.6) and two laser printers (Brother b/w, HP color) the HP ColorLaser Jet is the latest device added to the network. The printers are on the network using Ethernet.
Everything worked fine so far but since three days on the MacBook the printers are mixed up. If I select the Brother as the printer to use I get all the options from the Brother driver but the paper will be printed by the HP printer ?!
First I suspect my daughter but I could see that "strange" behaviour myself. Why that, and more important how can this be fixed?

sure I won't. Indeed I have setup my DHCP server that way (there is an address range outside the dynamic range for devices that need fixed addresses). Just in case the router and firewall have fixed address - you never know.
But having fixed addesses for the LAN priters as well I have now five devices outside the dynamic range of the DHCP compared to the three notebooks?
But back to the issue of the wrong printer. What disappoints me is the fact that there is no error message. The system just works the wrong way around. You can choose your printer, you can choose the print layout and all the other options and at the end it fails (sending the data to the wrong device).
I know IT is still complicated behind the scene. But this situation should not happen.

  • EPrint from Android is printing to the wrong printer

This is very odd.  I have a brand new OfficeJet 8500A that I just set up.  I got ePrint configured and created an ePrint account, installed the ePrint app on my Android phone, and tried to test it.  On the phone I put in my printer's ePrint email address, and it correctly identified it as an HP 8500A.
So then I went to try printing a test document, and it said it was going to print it to my 8500A - but it actually printed on my Photosmart 8450!  The Photosmart is on the same home network ast he 8500A, but it doesn't do ePrint as far as I know.  I think it predates the creation of ePrint.  And in any case, I certainly never did any kind of configuration to tell ePrint to use it.
Can anyone explain why it's printing to the wrong printer?

    Hello,
The ePrint Center and ePrint functionality (the ability to send an email to your printer) is different than the ePrint Home and Biz app. The ePrint Home and Biz app can be used with printers that are on your local network. It is possible that you simply selected the 8450 in the dropdown menu on your android device. Please verify you have selected the correct printer and if so, we can do some further troubleshooting.
    Thanks!

AirPrint finds any air print enabled printers on your wifi network, and won't find any printers that are not.  So if you print from, say, safari, and it finds that printer, then that is your printer.   It may have a different name than you were expecting.
Turn the printer off, and see if the print job still sees the printer.  That will confirm that the one it sees is yours.
What happens when you send the print job?
If you are sharing a wifi network with others, and one of them has a AirPrint printer on the network, you will see that one.  There is not way to have it forget one, so you will need to know your printer from the other printer, and select the right one.

  • Hp laserjet pro 400 m401 dw - how do you get it to recognize the second print tray?

We just bought this printer a month ago, and we love it, so we bought the second tray (or drawer, however you want to think of it) because my biggest complaint everyday is reloading paper trays. WE have tried everything we can think of to get the printer to recognize the second tray and to pull paper from there when the first one is empty, but its not working. Its like we bought it for no reason. Does anyone know how to make it work? Thanks

You need to distinguish between the following:
Printer - does the printer itself know that the tray is present? Check by printing a 'configuration' report, or by checking settings with the Embedded Web Server. If the tray is not recognised, this implies a physical problem with tray connector, etc.
Computer - does the printer driver on your system know that the additional tray is available? On a Windows system, look at the Device Settings tab on the Printer Properties dialogue, and check that the extra tray is set to Installed rather than Not installed.

  • Report Print.VI redirects to the wrong printer if error on intended printer

I have an application that involves a Zebra barcode printer and an HP letter-sized printer, both connected via USB to an XP box running LV2011.  I need to send binary files directly to the label printer so I have it shared as LPT1 using NETUSE and I use COPY to get the file to the printer.  Works great, except for the flash as the DOS screen momentarily appears during the COPY command.  I can live with that.  Here's the problem: when I use Print Report.VI to send an HTML report to the letter-sized printer it comes out on the label printer if there is any issue with the intended printer (e.g. out of toner).  35 labels later....
1] is there any way to force the print to sit in the HP's queue instead of redirecting to the label printer? I believe the Print Report VI uses IE's default printer regardless of what you specify, so maybe it's also IE that's doing the substitution?
2] is there any way to query the HP printer's "health" before sending a job so I can avoid creating the issue in the first place? I read somewhere that Windows only knows the state of the printer at certain discrete (an not-so-informative) times.

    Hi Zwired1,
Just to make sure I fully understand the situation - I am assuming since you say you are printing to two different printers that when you are using the Print Report.vi you are using the printer name string to specify which printer you would like to print on. And if the printer that you specify is not functioning it automatically prints on the other printer, is that correct?
From looking at the code in the Print Report.vi, it looks like if you specify a printer name in the input string, if there is a problem with that printer or if that printer is unavailable, the VI should not print anything, so please let me know if that is not the behavior you are seeing.
For your question about checking the health of printers, there is a VI in the report gen toolkit called Query Available Printers. You can find it if you open up the Print Report.vi and choose the Standard Report instance, the Query Available Printers.vi is on the block diagram of that VI. It will return the list of available printers and the default printer.
    I hope that helps,

  • Group policy preference for creating printers setting the wrong printer as default

    Hi
We have a a group policy preference applied to users.  At the moment we create a shared printer and set it as default for all users in a specific OU.  Now we need to add another shared printer.  I have updated the policy and set it to create
the new shared printer and have set item level targeting to the same OU as the first printer.  I want to keep the existing printer as the default, however when the policy runs, the new printer is created fine but it is set as the default
printer.  Is this because it has been added last ?  There doesn't seem to be a way of changing the order that the printers are applied.
Both printers are Shared printers and are set to Create
The existing printer (printer A) is set as the default printer.  It is targeted at the London OU.
The new printer (printer B) has NOT been set as default.  It is targeted at the London OU.
No other options have been set.
When the policy is applied both printers are added but printer B is being set as the default.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    G

    Hi G,

Before going further, what's the operating systems of our clients? Here, I need to double confirm that the checkbox of
Set this printer as the default printer... is not selected in the new GPP Printer item. Besides, we can change the orders of the printer items. To do this, select the printer item, right click, click All Tasks, and choose Move Up or Move
    Down to change the order.

  • Printing to the wrong Printer from the Batch Job

    Hi,
    Morning every one!
I am facing a problem with Print which is coming from Batch Job. The Batch job contains 10 steps. Previously all steps out put has configured to one printer. Recently I changed one step out put to the another printer with the request. But the print is going to the old printer still.
When I am checking at the batch job -> Steps -> Specific step ->Print Specifications -> Output Device .. able to see New Printer.
But batch job -> Steps-> Select Specific step -> Spool -> Doble click .. There spool is going to the old printer. I am facing this problem for only one step.
The issue is dragging from past one week.. I tried couple of options..No luck
I appreciate any inputs/Solution for this.
    Env:  ECC5.0/Solaris/Oracle
    Thanks,
    Sri.

I got the solution finally from ABAP team. The printer is maintained in the Condition records of the Variant for the particular step. Even though I assigned the printer in Batch job..It is taking the printer from Condition record.
    Thanks,
    Sri.

  • How do I fix the "U052" error? It is stating that I have the wrong print head.

When I was printing some business documents, my printer stopped working and threw the error code "U052" and stated, "The type of print head is incorrect.  Install the correct print head."  How do I fix this problem?

  • I renamed my rss feed with the wrong extension!

    I renamed my podcast -
    <itunes:new-feed-url>http://www.f2fmi.org/thelifecrew/rlrpodcast.rss</itunes:new-feed-url>
I meant to type .xml but for some reason I didn't. Now the change has been made and I have locked myself out of making it right. Is there any hope for this one?

the extension doesn't really matter. your feed can end with .rss as long as your RSS file ends with that, too. That's how mine is.
Just change your filename to match your new-feed description. So, instead of trying to "fix" the inadvertantly submitted filename that ends in .rss, go onto the server where your XML file is, and change it's extension to what your submitted.
    Hope this helps.

  • HP 2420dn printer - Tray 3 is missing from new Snow Leopard Driver

I am a physician and have plain paper in tray 2 and NYS preprinted prescriptions in tray 3. This was working fine with leopard. After the upgrade I cannot find tray 3. Tray 3 is enabled on the printer configuration and it shows up on the Web configuration tray correctly.
    When I go to:
    Preferences/Options% Supplies/Driver
There is a check box for duplex unit
fit to page drop down menu
total printer memory drop down menu
But NO check box for tray 3.
I have other HP laserjet printers in my medical office 2340 etc and they are all working fine with tray 3.
I upgrated to Snow Leopard correctly using a CD and then did a software update that contained new printer drivers.
I have rebooted the printer, my computer.
What is going on? Is the new printer driver for HP 2420 dn defective?
Is there a work around. Generic printer drivers also don't have this extra tray 3
    HELP!....please

I have found a work-around. The printer driver for 2340 works just fine! I don't know if I am doing any harm by using the wrong printer driver. Clearly, there is a bug that needs to be fixed in the 2420dn driver for Snow Leopard

  • Set Printer Tray

    Hi
I'm experiencing difficulty with a report.
My requirement is to print a four page report duplexed with the first page coming from tray 1 and the following page coming from tray 2.
When the report is printed via Adobe Acrobat Reader it will successfully duplex, but will not print from the separate trays.
When the report is sent direct to printer, setting the report property DESTYPE = PRINTER the report will print from the separate trays, but not duplex.
I've got the set_printer_tray commands on the repeating frame triggers.
Going through Adobe, I believe the report loses the printer tray commands.
Looking at the printer properties the printer's default behaviour appears to be duplex printing.
Any ideas on what could be going wrong?

    Hi Faiz,
There are 2 places where you need to worry about paper size in your report:
    1. When you design the report, you need to make sure that your report is designed according to the paper size that you would finally print on. For this, you first set Reports properties "width" and "height", and then design your report such that everything fits in this size. This has nothing to do with what physical paper size is chosen by the printer at runtime. This merely ensures that the report will be formatted according to the report width and height that you have set.
If at runtime, your actual paper size in the printer is different (eg, you design according to legal, but you printer contains letter), you can use the property PAGESIZE in your command line to dynamically change the paper size in your report, and Reports will try to format your report accordingly. Again, this property PAGESIZE does not switch the physical paper in the printer. It only ensures that the report is formatted according to what you specify as width and height.
    2. You want to set the "physical" paper size that the report will finally print on. This is controlled by the printer. In reports, you can control which tray should be chosen, but you cannot control what physical paper size it should print on. This is controlled by the printer. Report will print on the paper size that is present in the relevant printer tray.

    Xerox Work Centre PRO 232
    Xerox Work Centre PRO45 PCL6
    Xerox Work Centre PRO45 PCL6
    Xerox Work Centre 5645 PCL6
Xerox WC 5665 Black and White printer
Xerox WC 5645 - Black and White printer
There are approx 100 Designs which can be output to either print &/or pdf, these all use the following test presentment target(s):-
Print (default target) Generic PostScript L2 (pslevel2)
Pdf (secondary target) Portable Document Format - (pdf2)
    and using fonts
    Print - Arial MT
    PDF - Arial (W1)
The "business application" generates the .dat files for processing by Central, dynamically generating the Job Line containing the Design/Form+Printer+tray, for example:-
    ^job 4030040301 -ati4 -afxon -z"\\msgsrv-jet\CLS - ALL"
    ^form 40300403
    ^Symbolset 108
We generally pass thru the tray command as follows,
-ati1 results in printing from printer-tray1
-ati2 results in printing from printer-tray2
-ati3 results in printing from printer-tray3
-ati4 results in printing from printer-tray4
-ati5 results in printing from printer-tray5
to-date printing to the different trays works OK.
We are now testing a Xerox WC 7345 PCL6 "colour printer" and
the tray commands are not working as per the existing printers.
What we have identified is that
-ati0/null results in printing from printer-tray1
-ati1 results in printing from printer-tray2
-ati2 results in printing from printer-tray3
-ati3 results in printing from printer-tray4
-ati4 results in printing from printer-tray2
-ati5 results in printing from printer-tray2
We need to be able to send in a command to direct print to tray5 (bypass-tray) ? I have seen posting on the Adobe JF Designer Forums that refer to use of tailored .ICS files to achieve the redirection to the different printer trays. I would like to avoid this solution as I reckon that in addition to producing/tailoring the relevant .ics files that this would also require amending the Presentment target on all designs to include the individual printers (.ics files). Therefore, this would require a compile and test of all of the documents.
We ideally need a solution via the current JobLine -ati command or another command to use on the JobLine to direct print output from tray5 on Xerox 7345. We will then be able to modify our application to output the relevant tray commands for each printer without having to amend any ICS files or JF Designs.
Would appreciate any help with the above.
