Potential impact of iPhone 3G camera removal?

Hi,
I'd like to know whether there could be any adverse effects to the removal of the camera, regarding the OS.
This is because my workplace doesn't allow for camera-enabled phones, so if I want an IPHONE, i'll need to remove the camera.
So the question is, will the phone function at all?
What could be the impact upon future OS upgrades?
Thank you.
<Edited by Moderator>

I'm sorry that all the answers you got did NOT address the question.
Assuming you are NOT worried about voiding the warranty, the camera can be removed. If you search the web on "iphone camera removal" you can find links on how to do this yourself, or services that will do this for you.
They should be able to answer questions regarding software upgrades, but in my experience you should be fine. I would expect the OS to probe for the camera and if not their to carry on without it. Phone modules do go bad, so having the entire OS fail when a simple IF condition will cover the issue, seems unlikely.
Good luck.
Here are a couple links i found (what you want to do is not unusual).

How do I remove all 4000 photos from iPhone 5 camera roll to Mac?

Photos/videos in the Camera Roll can be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera. When there are photos/videos in the iPhone's Camera Roll, it is also detected as a digital camera when connected to your computer.
With a Mac, you can use iPhoto for this if you use iPhoto for photo management on your Mac. If not, you can use the Image Capture application for the import. Both include an option to delete all photos/videos from the Camera Roll after the import process is complete.

  • Vista and XP no Longer Recognize Iphone as a removable drive for Pictures

I was trying to download my photos from my iphone, and none of my computers recognize it.
I did some searching, and it was recommended to remove any pictures that were not taken with the camera. I did this, and the computer recognizes it now.
Why did this change come about? This was not an issue for the first year and a half of owning this phone.
Is there a way around it?

I don't believe being able to save a photo from a received email or from a website to the iPhone's Camera Roll was available a year and a half ago. I believe this was added/included with firmware update 3.0 that was released last summer.
Not sure what the problem is, but it must be a bug. I haven't experienced the same yet with iPhoto on my Mac not recognizing my iPhone as a digital camera when it includes any photos that were not captured by my iPhone - not yet anyway, so I'm not sure why this is a problem with some of these photos and not others.

  • IPhone 3G, Camera Resolution

I was looking for an answer on why my iPhone3G seemed to take Camera pics in 800x600 sometimes and 1600x1200 at other times. The other thread on this subject said it takes pics in 1600x1200 but when you email them they get reduced to 800x600 and the only way to get them off the iphone at the original res was to download them via iTunes.
I figured out that if you view an image in the Camera Roll Library and then hold down to "copy" (with iphone OS 3.0) the image out of the library, and open your email app program manually (like your gmail acct setup on the phone), and paste the pic it into a new blank email message in the body, and then send it to your self, so you can open that sent email on your computer, it emails the pic in 1600x1200. That way you don't have to hook up your iphone to your computer to download the full res pics. (hope that makes sense)
It is still true that if you email the pic using the pop-up email function in the Camera Roll Library, then it will only send the pic in 800x600.
Hope that helps whoever was wondering the same thing...
I would have posted this in that other thread but it was closed from new replies and it didn't really answer the question.

iTunes is not involved with importing photos from your iPhone's camera roll. As with any other digital camera, photos in your iPhone's camera roll can be imported by your computer.
It is still true that if you email the pic using the pop-up email function in the Camera Roll Library, then it will only send the pic in 800x600.
    I believe so.
As with any other digital camera, I use iPhoto on my Mac to import photos in my iPhone's camera roll along with the option to delete the photos from the camera roll after the import process is complete. I usually delete the photos from the camera roll after the import process is complete and if I want any of the recently imported photos available on my iPhone for viewing, I add the photos to an existing iPhoto album that is selected to be transferred to my iPhone under the Photos tab for my iPhone sync preferences, or create a new album for the recently imported photos followed by a sync.
Since photos in the camera roll are included with the iPhone's backup along with other data on the iPhone which is created and maintained by iTunes as the first step during the sync process, removing the photos from the camera roll after the import process is complete helps to keep the backup time for my iPhone to a minimum. If you don't import these photos and if you need or want to restore your iPhone with iTunes and there is a problem with your iPhone's backup, these photos will be lost.

  • IPhone 4 Camera Excessive Color Fringe / Distortion

    Hello everybody,
the following is a topic that I move with me since quite some time, but maybe someone can help solving it.
My iPhone (4) camera has extreme color fringing problems. As you can see in the following pictures, it occurs mainly on gradients.
I don't expect that camera type to have a similar behaviour as good DSLRs, but is this here normal?
The following image was taken in normal daylight.
How can I remove it? My software is always on the newest level, and the lens itself hasn't any scratches etc.
Is this a case for Apple tech support?
    Best regards,
    S.

You can't attach photos here, only link to them elsewhere.
Regarding the camera, I have to ask because others have made the mistake...have you removed the protective film from the back of the phone yet?
With the white hazy shots, it's extremely important to make sure the lens is grease free so wipe it with a soft cloth and try again. You'll be surprised how much difference it can make.
Especially important when a light source such as the Sun or a window is just out of shot (flare)
As far as the yellowing goes, all digital cameras (even several thousand pound DSLRs have trouble using auto white balance in tungsten lighting. I bought an app called "Almost DSLR and it clearly shows the WB being adjusted right down, to a point where it can't be adjusted any more. At this point the photo appears yellow (too high a colour temperature)
With a bit of luck it will be fixed in a firmware update, but in daylight and halogen etc, the colours SHOULD be excellent, along with sharpness and contrast.
Like I say, give it a little clean and try again.

  • My pictures are good quality when I take them with my iPhone 4 camera bit when I send them via mms or post on Facebook they loose a lot of quality. How can I fix this problem?

When I take photos whit my IPhone 4 camera the pictures look great but recently when I send pictures to friends or try posting them on Facebook the photos loose their quality dramatically and the ones that I sent all look blurry and bad compared tothe original. Please somebody help! I always take pictures with my iPhone and send or post them and this problem is restricting me a lit. Thanks for your help :)

when I could open iPhoto the library had tripled... photos from years ago from my iPhone and iPhoto had somehow come back onto it (even though I deleted them), the "faces" files had turned into their own photos, photos tripled (some smaller versions some bigger), and loads of random clip art and images I had never seen was on it. There was over 40,000 photos. It was so weird
Nothing weird. That happens when you import one iPhoto Library into another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
    As for deletions:
Drag the image from the Event to the iPhoto Trash. Empty it. Then Empty the System Trash. That removes it from the hard disk.
If that has failed in the past it was due to the Library being corrupted.

  • Colors fading on iPhone 5 camera after 2 yrs

I've had my iPhone 5 for two years. The camera worked fine until a few weeks ago. Now greens are coming out gray. I haven't seen this problem reported anywhere, but is it possible the camera sensors are failing? I take a lot of landscape and garden photos, so losing green is a big problem for me. Has anyone else seen this? Can it be fixed?

    Hello Leslie Turek,
The troubleshooting detailed below can help resolve image quality issues with your iPhone's camera.
Camera isn't functioning or has undesired image quality
If the screen shows a closed lens or black image, force quit the Camera app.
If you do not see the Camera app on the Home screen, try searching for it in Spotlight. If the camera does not show up in the search, check to make sure that Restrictions are not turned on by tappingSettings > General > Restrictions.
Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
Cases can interfere with the camera and the flash. Try gently cleaning the lens with a clean dry cloth or removing the case if you see image or color-quality issues with photos.
Try turning iPhone off and then back on.
Tap to focus the camera on the subject. The image may pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as it adjusts.
Try to remain steady while focusing:
Still images: Remain steady while taking the picture. If you move too far in any direction, the camera automatically refocuses to the center.
Note: If you take a picture with iPhone turned sideways, it is automatically saved in landscape orientation.
Video: Adjust focus before you begin recording. You can also tap to readjust focus while recording. Exiting the Camera application while recording will stop recording and will save the video to the Camera Roll.
Note: Video-recording features are not available on original iPhone or iPhone 3G.
If your iPhone has a front and rear camera, try switching between them to verify if the issue persists on both.
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?

  • Iphone 4 camera shutter not opening

    hi all,
actually my iphone 4 camera shutter is not opening. im facing this problem after update, and is the replacement policy is also liable in inda , please help me out thanks in advance

I read it, in that case (holding sleep/wake + home until iphone reboots): I have both rebooted and resetted my iPhone several times. Still without camera shutter.
I have also removed and again installed several apps that use the camera, without success.
The last time I'm sure the camera still functioned properly was January 1st.
I have also force-quitted all apps from the background.
Also, the flash on the rear of the phone does not work as it should. I have an app that enables it (Light as SpringBoard name), but the app does not respond to the on/off toggle and the flash just goes on and off randomly (not as strobe!) and uncontrollable.
(I feel like David Attenborough saying camera shutter so often, "And this is a camera shutter: ...")

  • IPhone 4 Camera Icon Missing, Facetime Unavailable after add Mail Exchange

    iPhone 4 running 4.0.1
when my iPhone setup to MS Exchange email account (my company) I noticed that iPhone 4 Camera Icon Missing, Facetime Unavailable. I remove the account from "setting" - "Mail" and all feature came back to normal.
This also happened to my colleague (iPhone 4 FM 4.0) connected to same MS Exchange server.
However; I posted this issue on other forum and other iPhone 4 users don't have the same issue connected to Exchange.
My Company running MS Exchange 2007

Got it working now iOS support Exchange Policy!

Exchange 2007 has active sync policies. One of the options is to disallow the camera.
To resolve the problem do the following.
    1) Open Exchange Management Console
    2) Click "Organization Configuration"
    3) Click "Client Access"
    4) On the right you should see your active sync policies. Right click the policy and chose "Properties"
    5) Click the "Device" tab
    6) Check "Allow camera"
    And bingo it works!!!!

  • Iphone 3g camera sutter stucks

iphone 3g camera sutter stucks. i have tried reset all setting, open camera for 1 hrs, hard slide option but nothing worked. may someone get me out of this problem?

    Hi,
If you have a protective case or film on the iPhone, try testing without it.
Also try restarting the iPhone by holding the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears> then slide to turn off> and turn the iPhone back on by pressing the Sleep/Wake again, as described on page 34 of the iPhone User Guide.
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPhoneUserGuide.pdf
You can also try restoring the iPhone, to rule out issues with the software on the iPhone. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414 will walk you through restoring the iPhone.
If the issue persists after removing the case and restarting or restoring, the iPhone may need hardware repair. Make a reservation to have a Genius take a look at it or call AppleCare.

  • Importing Photos From iPhone and Camera

I am new to Aperture (3.1.1) - Previously used iPhoto (7.1.5). I have not been able to find Aperture settings that allow for import window opening upon connection of camera for preview of images, option to select images for import and option to delete images from iPhone or camera after import. This was a really useful tool in iPhoto and greatly simplified my workflow. Please help find this ease of import option in Aperture that I previously enjoyed in iPhoto.

Thank you for the link. I am not getting the dialogue pop-up referred to in item 7 following import. I'll try your suggestion: "If this does not pop up, you may need to delete the 'ImportPreset' file (~/Library/Application Support/Aperture) and / or the 'com.Apple.aperture.plist' file (~/Library/Preferences)."
May I ask; Am I deleting the file because a possible problem is suspected with the file?
Will the file be re-written automatically after I delete it? Or
Are the file or files not needed?
If I can get that pop-up, happy days are here again.
Those files are recreated by Aperture on launch if removed and everything they control is set back to the default settings (so the Import Presets file holds any import settings you last used, and the preferences file holds any settings you made in the 'Aperture menu > Preferences dialog).
If you remove them, then you will need to reset any settings you changed from the default settings you saw when you first launched Aperture (and will see on first launch after removing them).
The pop-up will show up after importing from a camera card, but not from an iPhone (at least not from mine which is the 3G). Also, with an iPhone (at least with the 3G), you need to enable the Sync function in iTunes by selecting 'Aperture' from the list under Photos. You can create a specific project for the iPhone in Aperture previous to doing this which allows you to select that project for the Sync.
Once you enable the Sync in iTunes, Aperture will load automatically with the import browser showing you the images available for import (as well as allowing the other import options for those images that Aperture offers). Again - and unfortunately for users like yourself - the small pop-up dialog will not show after import for the iPhone (probably has something to do with iTunes having priority - ownership - of the Sync functions).
Note - on further review on my end, there is no 'Do not display this dialog again' check box in the small pop-up, so removing those files probably won't be necessary as the pop-up should show when a camera card is connected and imported.
