Potential problem with all new Macbook Aluminum Displays

I have read in several threads across the internet (including this one) that people who have received the new aluminum Macbooks have been disappointed with the "greyish" quality of the displays, as well as the color saturation when compared to the older and newer Macbook Pro LED displays, as well as the original Macbook Air displays. Can current owners verify this?

I hadn't seen other threads until just now actually, but earlier today I posted a comment on this board asking for comments from others who've seen both the new MacBook and Pro next to each other so they could tell me whether I was crazy or not. Essentially the MacBook screen seemed washed out compared to the clearly more vivid colours on the Pro. The Air even seemed to have a better, brighter screen. Not sure what's the issue to be honest, but I went into the store set on a new MacBook, but left considering for the first time ever the bigger Pro simply due to the screen.
Edit: Another user posted this review, and if you scroll towards the end (where they show a DVD in the dark) the pics are quite telling and confirm (for me) that I'll get a Pro or wait for the refresh for hopefully better screens. http://gizmodo.com/5063492/macbook-and-macbook-pro-dual-review

  • Problems With My New Macbook

    I bought my white Macbook early February and since then i have come aross a couple of problems, so i am posting here to see if anyone else has experienced my first problem and to warn you all of the second;
    - My headphone out only plays out of the left headphone unless I turn the volume right up which causes the right ear to distort profusely.
    - The highly rated "Incase" Neoprene Sleeve I bought with it has left black stains on the sides and looking at other threads it seems that it is only the newer Macbooks that suffer with the problem with the case.
My macbook is now with the apple repair guys for a few days to sort the headphone problem out and the person I spoke to recommended getting a new case.
I just think it's ridiculous that they advertise the case with picture of a white macbook when it actually stains them..
Let me know if you have experiences similar problems with the new macbooks..
    Regards,
    Martin

I have tried multiple sets of headphones which work fine with my ipod and i still have the same problem and I get the same problem when playing music through itunes, frontrow, myspace and purevolume.
Whilst i was on the phone to apple support they led me through a few different ways of resolving the problem easily i.e going into system preferences and checking that the pan is centered, restarting the mac by pressing 4 keys at the same time etc. and none of that fixed the problem.
Hmm it seems that no one else has had a similar problem to this.. maybe i just got a faulty unit.. I should get my macbook back from the repair guys either today or monday so i'll find out then exactly what the problem was.
Thank you all for your input!

  • I have Problem with my new macbook with Retina display

my new macbook with Retina display i have Problems
(Suddenly Stuck) stop working don't thing move even mouse even caps lock light in keyboard it not work it is totally Stuck till shutdown it from keyboard and restart

Hmm sounds like a saved application state issue and memory related.. I hate to ask are these graphic intensive apps. ?? games ??
Try these two things and restart if it still occurs then i recommend contacting AppleCare
disable the Resume and App Restore feature completely in Mac OS X 10.7.
Launch System Preferences and click on the “General” icon
At the bottom of the “Number of recent items” list, uncheck the checkbox next to “Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps”
    - Click on the Apple on the top left. Choose shutdown "Uncheck" Reopen windows when logging back in
**use your mac normally just like you were if the issue reoccurs then contact AppleCare..  Enjoy..

  • Potential connection problems with the new 27" Apple displays

I'm thinking about purchasing the new 27" Apple displays and I would like to be able to run two of them at once with full 2560 x 1440 resolution. I know that the mac mini display port can output the resolution but does the HDMI port output that rate? I thought HDMI is capped out at 1080? So, if it is possible, does anyone manufacture the adapters needed? And lastly, would it be possible to also run an older (see my specs) Mac Pro with two of these screens? What kind of adapters would be needed for that? Has Apple just decided that one monitor is all anyone will ever need and that they are no longer going to support the older DVI connectors? Thanks.

To steer us back to my original post: I was asking specifically about the mac mini and the new 27" display. If you have any of the older mac models most of them support dual dvi. The newer mac mini only supports one display port and one HDMI port. I believe that the highest resolution that HDMI 1.3 supports is 1980 x 1200. My understanding is (after some research) that there is HDMI 1.4 protocol already developed that supports higher resolution but this has not been widely implemented yet. Also, my other concern was the connectors on the new display. Only the mini display port with a male end. This almost guarantees that you will need some sort of cable/connector to anything except the newer macbooks. Just some observations - that's all.

  • My music will not sync with my new Macbook Retina Display

    I have an iPhone5 w/latest iOs using iTunes 11.1.3 and OSX 10.9 on a Macbook 13" w/Retina Display.
I just migrated my music into iTunes, which was a chore since no utility helped.  I manually moved all my music.  Now I don't mind syncing my phone with a new iTunes library.  However, it is not working.  iTunes goes through the entire syncing process making it look like it did it all.  However, when I look back at my phone, nothing has changed.  No new playlists, no changes to apps, etc.  Please help.  I'm annoyed!!

This is exactly my problem.  It used to work fine, before 10.0.1.  I've tried everything.  I've checked the right boxes when connected and clicked Apply.  I've tried syncing it via wifi and plugged into my mac.  Mail seems to work fine on all devices, also, the iPad under music says that the my mac is available in music and videos, but only a partial library is available in music (all in videos).  It says it will do a wireless sync when the mac is available, but I've checked in the mac's system preferences which says it is connected to the wireless network.  I've even tried different locations in the house woth the iPad (charger always plugged in) with no response.  The iPad works fine, otherwise.  I've shutdown and restarted both devices.  I'm stuck!!

  • Starting problems with a new MacBook Air

I have just bought a new MacBook Air, and have followed the set up assistant all the way to the last page
The message "Thank you, your Mac is now ready to use",appeared and I clicked "Start using Mac"
The rainbow colloured cirkle just keeps on turning - but nothing happens. And it hasn't for 8 hours
In the process I have used an external USB mobile hard drive to transfer data from my old MacBook.
There was no indication of any problem using this in the setup process.
I have after 8 hours in desperation removed the mobile hard drive - with no result.
Please, can someone help me from what is becoming the the turning madness of 'the evil rainbow eye'?

Maybe another shutdown then start, will help: hold the on/off button untill it shuts off.
    Do not connect anything.
When it will not start again, you shutdown and start while holding the three keys at the same time:  the CMD key + Alt(=option) key + R key:
You need an internet connection, it will start in the internet recovery "disk" and then you choose Recover OSX.
    It will take some time.

  • Problems with my new MacBook Pro.

Some time ago my Macbook has some problem with the display, common when I used Safari for long time... it's like the image is pixeleated. I bring the computer with a authorized dealer because I'm from Colombia. But the technical service said that they can repair it, that the problem is the graphic card. They said that they can't change the machine but I think that is better change it, the macbook only have 2 and a half month with me so... What can I do?
P.D: Forgive me for the spelling, I'm not very good in it .

Call AppleCare or arrange with the local Apple retailer to have the motherboard replaced. You cannot replace the GPU alone. If the computer is in warranty then you may get a replacement or at least the repair will be covered.

  • Problems with my New Macbook-Boot-Dashboard

I just got a brand new macbook from "santa" and having some major problems. Right now I can only think of 2. I tried installing windows XP but I didnt want it so I removed it and now when I start up my mac after reboot or shutdown, it says, "no bootable drive....insert drive and press any key" so now i hav e to hold down option key to start my mac up. I REALLY dont want that. How do I fix this. I just got my macbook today so I am kinda scared. My second problem is that when I try to put a widget that is pre-installed like ESPN, Flight Tracker, etc. Dashboard just goes away! How do use my dashboard??

    Hi Anil!
It sounds like what's happened is that you set the Windows XP partition to be the main boot volume, because you removed it the problem you're experiencing is to be expected.
Hold down the option key, as you've been doing and boot into OS X. Go to System Preferences and then select "Startup Disk" which is in the "System" grouping. Select the volume that has the OS X operating system. Next time you restart the machine it should take this changes and the problem will be resolved.
Please report your findings if it doesn't work.
As for the widgets, when you launch Dashboard and click on the "plus" icon in the lower left hand corner it should bring up all the pre-installed Widgets. When you click a specific Widget it'll drop it onto your dashboard and you then reposition it. I usually re-click the "plus" icon when I'm done and then F4 out of dashboard. When I return, it's there...
Are you doing the same thing and they're not staying?

  • Problems with my new MacBook air

Hello, I have a new MacBook Air, OSX MAVERICKS 10.9.2 which I purchased two weeks ago and it is (1) only recognising my log in password sporadically, and (2) it seems to be freezing up very often, when I do get it to recognise me, and (3) I can't open any application without it asking for a keychain password , which it doesn't recognise when I do enter it. any suggestions to help me with this problem?

    Hi
You would probably be best placed to call AppleCare - you get free phone support within 90 days of purchase.

  • Heat and sleep problem with my new Macbook Pro

Basically I noticed with my new MBP the computer can become very hot and the fan gets very loud after about ~2 hours of working in Maya.. which I guess might be reasonable.
However, my main concern is, even when I close the lid of the MBP, the heat seems to stay (I just closed it for about 30 minutes, and it's still as hot as it was before I closed it).
I'm working on High Performance.. maybe my macbook isn't sleeping when I close it?
I have noticed (I THINK) that the white apple on the outside glows sometimes randomly even when I have the lid closed, but I'm not completely sure.
    Anyone else have this problem?

Hi yes I've had/got the same problem. Received my new MacBook Pro only last week and this has happened twice. The machine gets so hot I can't even touch the battery area!!!! It only seems to happen with the power connected and when the lid is closed. Fortunately the Mac was on my wooden desk or it might have melted plastic!
The Mac cooled down after unplugging from power supply, but wow it was hot....and noisy!
The only way to get the Mac back was to either press the power/off until it shut down, or take the battery out - after it cooled down.
Reported the problem to Mac Support immediately, but no response.
THIS IS DANGEROUS!!! Be careful, I don't know what would happen if it was left overnight for example - could easily cause a FIRE!!!!!

  • Does anyone else have problems with the new macbook pro trackpad?

I exchanged my new macbook pro last week because there was a major trackpad lag. Every time I put it to sleep and woke it up, the trackpad would delay 5 or more seconds. I took it in to the Apple store and they said it could be a software issue and I exchanged it. However, I just opened up this one up from the package today, and there's still a lag. Does anyone else have problems with that? I don't want to exchange it again, so is there something I can do?

Also, is it mandatory to run software updates when you first turn on your computer?

  • ILife '11 comes with all new MacBook Pros right?

I have a fairly new MacBook pro that came with Snow Leopard and had iLife '11 installed on it to begin with.
I don't know what discs came with the computer because my company's Desktop Support group gave me the laptop when it was ready and kept any discs.
We recently upgraded it to Lion, I had them do a fresh install, wiped the old image and installed Lion from whatever media they have.
Well once given back to me I'm finding that iLife '11 is not on here now...shouldn't it be? Is it something that was on a disc I never saw and I can just install it again? Is iLife '11 supposed to be part of the Lion image they installed?
What would have happened have happened had my HDD crashed before when I had Snow Leopard? Is there one or two discs to reinstall OS and iLife?
Trying to figure out what to do and how to get iLife back on my machine now.
    Thanks.

Ask your IT people to reinstall iLife from the discs that came with your computer when it was purchased, or from whatever backups the company maintains.
iLife is not part of the Mac OS, so under your circumstances it needs to be reinstalled separately.

So this only appears in advisory/confirmation windows and nowhere else, i.e. you never see it across documents or images or in other situations ?
First suggestion is to try re-installing the latest 'combo' 10.6.6 updater and see if that changes anything.
