Potential safari extensions on the ipad

I've hit a real functional road block with the iPad not supporting applications being able to choose files and upload them. I understand the security model but I'm wondering if someone knows enough about the interface libraries and extensions to tell me if my idea would be feasible.
Would it be possible to add an extension to Safari, so that the file chooser buttons for uploading would be enabled. Rather then browsing a file system, the extension would query installed apps for the files they manage. The application could then select the application and get access to upload the file.
Before I go through the effort to figure this out, I was hoping someone could make sure im on the right track.

There is really no setting to change on the iPad. Have you tied another browser on the iPad? IThe background shows on my iPad with the Opera Mini (free) browser.

Try closing all apps in Multitask Window
    1. Double tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking view
    2. Swipe up on the screenshot of the app you want to exit.
    3. The app will fly off the screen

What extensions accept the iPad and iPhone movies? Can I put any film of any length and with subtitles?

This is from the developer website (I feel like this is old, since it doesn't say anything about HD resolutions):
iOS supports many industry-standard video formats and compression standards, including the following:
H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
H.264 video, up to 768 Kbps, 320 by 240 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in.m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
Also, there is a great app called VLC which supports almost any format under the sun! You can put media in it through iTunes.

  • How do I block you tube page in the Safari browser in the ipad

My son is 12 and uses the iPad in your school to be endorsed with their subjects and study. however, I can not block you tube in Safari lest they see inappropriate videos.

You can go to the settings app then pick General then pick restrictions. I did not see a direct way to restrict just YouTube and not turn Safari as well. There are some options based on ratings that my help you keep them away from some of the worst of the videos.

  • Why does safari hang on the ipad 3 ios 5.1.1

I got the ipad3 about a month ago and Ive noticed that safari hangs all the time. At first I thought it was the network but after using it at a friends house and using it on 4g. When it hangs the whole ipad locks up and is non responsive to landscape changes. I find i have to reset it daily. Anyone have this going on.

I'm not sure where I would start with trying to isolate the app. I would just launch one app at a time, use Safari see what happens, then launch another app, use Safari .... rinse and repeat. I would probably pay attention to other apps that depend on an internet connection, but so many apps do, so you will just have to be patient and diligent in your approach.
If you can't ultimately get this situation straightened out, you might want to make an appointment at a Genius Bar and have an Apple rep take a look at your iPad as well.

  • Only the safari element of the ipad has locked up, how do i restart

I purchased my IPad 2 early August 2011 and it has developed a problem. All elements of the iPad are OK other than the SAFARI bit which has "locked up". How do I re-start?, any ideas anyone?

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data (and Clear History)
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Synching Safari bookmarks on the iPad

Hi, I am not sure how to do this, hence my post here. I would like to have safari's bookmarks to be the same on my mac and on my ipad. I have the bookmarks option on icloud selected but the ipad still has its own set of bookmarks. Is there a way to force update it?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Safari History on the iPad

How do I restrict my child from deleting the Safari History, he usually deletes the History and then I never know what exacly he is looking at. I don't want to set too many restrictions, and not be as controlling, but would still like to know what pages he looks at. But he always deletes his History. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Where did you see a "Parental Control Settings pane"?
The only parental control that I am aware of is the Restrictions part.
You can - for example - restrict the use of certain apps, installation/deletion of apps, in-app purchases, etc.
You can also restrict the use of certain websites or define your own restricted websites.
If your child wants to visit a certain website, he would have to ask your permission.
BTW, if you restrict Websites > Specific Websites Only = On, then the history cannot be cleared anymore, except by the person who knows the Restrictions passcode. This feature could be of interest to you, but your child would then literally be limited to visit certain websites of your personal choice only.
Anyway, if you don't want to restrict the Clear History function, then I can't think of another solution right now.
Make sure you don't forget your Restrictions passcode, otherwise you have to restore the iPad.

  • Restoring safari history on the ipad

My son is deleting his safari history, and I am wondering how to view the safari history after it has been deleted.

There is no way to stop clearing history in Safari/iPad at present.
    Try Kidsafe browsers.
    Best.

  • I would like to add to the Safari toolbar on my ipad 5 IOS 6  machine. I have searched the web and find some instructions to do this but the words and pictures do not match what I can see. I am beginning to think this is not a capabilty of the ipad 5

I would like to add to the Safari toolbar on my ipad 5 IOS 6  machine. I have searched the web and find some instructions to do this but the words and pictures do not match what I can see. I am beginning to think this is not a capabilty of the ipad 5 but perhaps for a Mac computer running Safari. Does anyone know if it is possible to add tools to the toolbar on the latest version of iPad OS & Safari Browser? If so please tell me how. Thanks

You cannot customize the Safari toolbar on the iPad.
What you can do on the iPad is go to Settings>Safari>Always show Bookmarks Bar>On and that will add a bookmarks bar on to the Safari browser.

  • How to recover the "GMail" Safari extension icon?

I seem to have lost the "GMail" Safari extension icon. This is the one with the plain "envelope" outline (NOT the "GMail Counter" one). It originally appeared as a selection in the Safari/View/Customize Toolbar window, but is now gone. And that particular extension does not appear in the "Safari/Safari Extensions..." option.
I thought I recalled that there is a way to delete Safari and then restart OSX to have it reinstalled, but I can't accomplish that it seems.
All advice appreciated for how to recover that "GMail" Safari extension.
    TIA

    UPDATE.
I found that Extension on my iMac running Lion. (Library/Safari/Extensions). Sent as an attachment to an email to myself and copied it to that location on my MBP.
    Problem solved.
Suggestion: Do NOT "Uninstall" Safari extensions from the Toolbar. Just do Safari/View/Customize Toolbar and simply Move the unwanted extension back to the Customize window.

  • Cannot Install Safari Extensions

    Greetings,
Trying to install an extension on my Safari Version 8.0 (10600.1.25.1)
An extension installed successfully, but after Safari restart its all gone.
Does not matter which extension and how many,
After install I can see extensions in Safari Preferences window, but not after a restart.
I can see newly installed extensions in ~/Library/Safari/Extensions/ folder, the folder has correct permissions and owner.
Even though there are extensions in ~/Library/Safari/Extensions/ , Safari does not "sees" it after a restart.
It seems like this problem is specific to my PC, as I have checked it with other people - they don't experience it.
    Please help !

Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Use the search box in the toolbar of the Keychain Access window to search for an item named "Safari Extensions List". If found, delete it. Quit Keychain Access.
    Quit and relaunch Safari.

  • So did anyone hack the iPad and made it work with Flash?

    Hello Dudes & Dudettes,
I basically need to write a Flash game that would work through the Safari browser on the iPad.
Did anyone try to re-write the Adobe iPhone packager and make it work for the iPad? I am curious... ?
Also anyone  knows if it is possible to hack the browser in order to use the standard embedded flash code?
I hate using the Xcode SDK, mainly because I am not that good at C++, and basically AS 3.0 would be ideal for me to develop for the iPad.
    Help is much appreciated!
    thanks,
    Dave

I'm still getting all these annoying popups windows, although I followed every solution suggested(safari extensions, block the pop ups) it's really disturbing please help

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.
