POV1 and AVI audio conversion problems

Hi, I have a POV1 helmet camera which records to SD card in AVI format.
I have used the suggestions here to convert the files to DV to edit in FCE4
I am also using a Sony handicam for additional footage which I import into FCE4 via firewire.
The problem I have is the audio formats are different and I have to render the POV1 clips to hear the audio.
I have used MPEG stream clip to make the 2 different media the same but I can't adjust the Audio format from 32-bit floating point (POV1) to 16-bit integer (Handycam)
Any thought on how to make the two types of audio the same so I don't have to render each time I make a change?
TIA..

The bit size is not important, the sample rate. Are you converting in Streamclip to DV or to QuickTime? You need to convert to QuickTime and set the audio to uncompressed stereo 48K, assuming the audio on Handycam is also 48K. If it's 32K then set the audio in Streamclip to 32K.

  • [PLEASE HELP!] .m4v and .mpeg4 Audio Export problems (QT 7 pro)

When i try to export any clips to .m4v (movie to ipod) or .mpeg4 the video is exported but has no sound. When i select "export to .mpeg4" and click on "options" it says "audio: no audio track in source movie". This is the same message displayed on all the clips i have tried to export.
Does anyone know how i can record the audio for .m4v files or .mpeg4 files?
Thankyou so much in advance for your help.

      Windows XP

I'm using Quicktime Pro v 7.0.4 on Mac. I tried exporting Quictime mpeg4 to iPod format and get only video but no audio! And I'm talking Apple all the way. These files were made from a Sony digital camera with the digital video record option.
Believe most (if not all) Sony digital cameras still use MPEG video format. As such, the files contain a "muxed" stream consisting of blocks of video data interspersed with blocks of audio data for A/V synchronization. As Kirk alluded to above, QT is a "frame-to-frame" sync application and does not fully support "muxed" (e.g., MPEG1, MPEG2, VOB, some AVI, MJPEG, etc.) formats.
I do use a 3rd party program called Snapz Pro X to capture to .mpeg4 and these files export just fine to iPod format!
Good solution for capturing streamed video but not the best here. As you suggested, use a third party, MPEG based application like iSquint (free) or, better yet, MPEG Streamclip (free) for one-step conversion with audio.
I tried to convert the mpeg4 format to MOV format and then convert MOV to m4v but no audio there.
No surprise here. If you check your first MPEG4 file you will see that no audio track was present following the initial conversion and no amount of further conversions will add a non-existent audio track.

  • Logic 8 and mbox audio out problem

    Hi
I have a problem when using my digidesign mbox with logic 8. When I set the core audio to Device: Digidesign HW (Mbox) in prefs in logic I can record with my mic (i see that the audio is going in) but I do not get any sound out, not from the tracks I have reWired from reason, or the mic. Its like the audio out is disabled when I choose the Mbox device. If I choose to use built in microphone or built in line in i can both hear the reWired sound and the internal mic in my imac, but then the external mic using the mbox does not work...
So basically I can record sound with the external mic, but then I dont here anything (not the audio in logic or the mic) or I can record with the internal mic and also here the other sounds (rewired or other tracks in logic).
This is really annoying, since I just want to be able to use my good external mic or guitar through my mbox and I cant...
btw, when using garageband it works wothout any problem to use the mbox, so its not a problem with the drivers or so...
Anyone have had similar problems, or maby someone has a solution. I would be really greatful.
    Thanks
    Mr Sinclair

    Oh
and another thing... It also works in Sountrack pro as well as in garageband... It is only in Logic 8 I can not hear the sound I am playing once I have chosen the Digidesign device for input. It is almost as it automatically choses the digidesign device for output as well, and not the speakers on my computer... (in soundtrack pro there is a choice to chose input and output device, in logic only the input device... could this be the problem?) I could use soundtrack pro, but it does not have the ReWire function I need... and also I like logic better.
    Any suggestions?

  • Exported .mp4 and FlipFactory audio sync problems

I work for a television station, and we use FlipFactory to convert everything before going to our playout server.
When using the H.264 preset in CS5.5, everything works fine.
When using the same preset in CS6, after going through FlipFactory, the audio sync starts to drift.  By the end of a 30 minute program, the audio is way out of sync.  If I play the file (after CS6 export, before FlipFactory) in WMP, VLC, MPC, the audio stays in sync.
Using the H.264 BluRay preset, everything is fine (in both CS5.5 and CS6), but obviously, the file size is larger due to the container.
I understand that most will say this is a FlipFactory issue since the file plays back fine before FF does it's thing, but something must have changed from CS5.5 to CS6 regarding the H.264 encoder, as CS5.5's files go through FF just fine.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Did somewhat of what you asked.  I exported the same show in CS6, one using the H.264 preset, one using the H.264 BluRay preset.  The H.264 preset one drifts out of sync after FlipFactory, the other stays in sync.
Here are the media info specs for each file (I did use different bitrates on the two, but that shouldn't cause an issue):

  • Iphoto and avi file thumbnail problem

I have a imported my photo library into iphoto 08 but the thumbnails for the short vids taken on my camera do not show up- I just get a black thumbnail with a video camera in the corner. Is there a way to add the first shot of the video to these files or is there a way to import them where I will get the thumbnails?
Any help is appreciated. I have had my (first) mac since January and this is the first thing I couldn't work out easily for myself...

When you import a movie iPhoto grabs the first frame and uses it as a thumbnail. If the first frame is blank, well then that's what you got.
iPhoto is a photo manager - that is, it's a database with a built-in image viewer. But the key factor is the database. iPhoto cannot work with images that have not been imported.
I have no idea why you're moving photos around like this.
Are you running a Managed Library or a Referenced Library?
If you're running a Managed library, then it's the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing
If you're running a Referenced Library, then you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced and iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing.

  • Encore CS3 - Hangs and import problems with menus and avi footage with audio tracks present.

I'm trying to import some footage files in .avi format into Encore CS3 and am having several problems.
In what follows when I say "crash" I mean Encore quits with a standard Windows error. When I say "hang" I mean Encore does not quit but rather becomes an unresponsive process that must be killed manually using Windows Task Manager.
    My System:
    WinXP Pro SP2
2.93 GHz Intel Celeron CPU - single core
    Intel PERL mobo
    3GB 400MHz RAM
    NVidia 7800GS video
I mention these specs however I am not experiencing any hardware
related bugs or issues (like out of memory or video driver crashes
etc) when using any CS3 app.
The footage files (as reported by GSpot) and problems I am seeing. In all cases GSpot reports that I have the appropriate codec installed:
    footage1.avi - Dx50 XVid 1.0.3, Dolby AC3 48kHz 192kb/s, 716834 KB
Attempting to import as timeline causes Encore CS3 to hang.
Importing as an Asset allows it to import but when I try to click
on it in the project windown to add it to a new empty timeline,
Encore hangs. It plays fine in Windows Media Player.
    footage2.avi - Dx50 XVid 1.0.3, MPEG-1 Layer 3 48kHz 128kb/s, 718302 KB
Imports fine as either a timeline or asset but no audio track comes
with it, even though there is an audio track in the footage. It plays
fine in Windows Media Player. Video imports perfectly, just no audio.
    footage3.avi - Dx50 XVid 1.0.3, MPEG1-Layer3 48kHz 112kb/s, 717606 KB
Imports fine as either a timeline or asset but no audio track comes
with it, even though there is an audio track in the footage. It plays
fine in Windows Media Player. Video imports perfectly, just no
audio. I tried converting this one using AVS to both MPEG3 and DivX,
each using MPEG1-Layer3 44kHz 192kb/s audio, and got the same issue
upon importing into Encore CS3. I also loaded it into Camtasia
Studio and it looked fine over there. The audio was present and I
was able to export it as a .WAV file. When I tried looking at the
file in Soundbooth CS3, there was no audio track or, more
accurately, the audio track was a flat line.
By way of comparison these are importing perfectly:
    footage4.avi - XVID XviD 1.1.0 Beta2, MPEG1-Layer3 48kHz 189kb/s Two mono
    channels LAME3.96r, 717436 KB.
    footage5.avi - XVID XviD 1.1.0 Final, Dolby AC3 48kHz 448kb/s Six
    channels (3/2 .1), 716418 KB.
    footage6.avi - XVID XviD 1.1.0 Final, Dolby AC3 48kHz 448kb/s Six
    channels (3/2 .1), 716418 KB.
    footage7.avi - XVID XviD 1.0.3, Dolby AC3 48kHz 448kb/s 6 channels
    (3/2 .1), 717502 KB
    footage8.avi - XVID XviD 1.0.3, Dolby AC3 48kHz 448kb/s 6 channels
    (3/2 .1), 717180 KB
    footage9.avi - XVID XviD 1.1.2 Final, Dolby AC3 48kHz 448kb/s 6 channels
    (3/2 .1), 2291904 KB
Although this one imported & transcoded correctly, when I went to
build it to a DVD image file I got some strange errors during the
"planning video" stage that prevented the process from completing.
Unfortunately I neglected to write down the error message I recieved
which read like quite nonsensical babble to me, and I have since
deleted the project folder. I remember it was not a memory or
display related error and it included a timestamp where the error
was happening. I played the footage in the preview panel thru the
identified timestamp but it previewed perfectly without even a
jitter in either the video or audio. Took forever to transcode so I
doubt I'll be doing this one again anytime soon.
Another issue I am having is with the motion menus. I burned a DVD and it does not load correctly in one of my DVD players (a Sony rdr-gx330 recorder/player). It appears to take extra time to recognize the disk, the startup (first-play) menu does not show automatically, and I must press the Main Menu button on the

Another issue I am having is with the motion menus. I burned a DVD and it does not load correctly in one of my DVD players (a Sony rdr-gx330 recorder/player). It appears to take extra time to recognize the disk, the startup (first-play) menu does not show automatically, and I must press the Main Menu button on the remote control to make it appear. Other than that it seems to play ok in that player. Also tested it in 2 other DVD players (a Panasonic and Zenith) and it worked just fine like it's supposed to in them. Also plays perfectly in my computer's DVD player/burner using Windows Media Player v10. I tried burning to Memorex +RW single-layer single-sided disks at 6, 7, & 8Mbps project settings but got the exact same result every time.
Encore CS3 crashes fairly often during authoring, particularly during imports, and when I go to edit things like calling up a timeline in the timeline panel, dragging footage into an existing timeline, or changing button links in a menu etc.. I have also experienced seemingly random hangs even more often, probably 5 or 6 times as often as a crash. Saving the project after every little change I make, then closing and restarting Encore allows me to make progress albeit at a significantly reduced workflow rate. Accessing Photoshop from Encore appears to be working flawlessly so far aside from the slow load times. Encore hangs sometimes during video transcoding, repeat the process and it works ok. If I try to import a menu from the library after importing my footage files, Encore hangs trying to import it either at the 50% mark or the 99% mark (it varies even with the same exact menu selected from the library). If I import the menu first and the footage after, then no problems. Also trying to render motion menus after importing footage causes Encore to hang, render before footage import and everything works ok. Interestingly enough, previewing my project in Encore's monitor or preview panels works perfectly even in High quality mode -- in fact it operates quite smoothly in comparison to other apps I have tried. Although those footage files that had missing audio tracks on import obviously played silently, I have yet to experience a hang or crash during a preview or when scrubbing through a timeline in the monitor panel.
The last problem I've seen is with the project cache files. It doesn't always get rid of cache files when stuff is deleted from the project. I was working on one project and surprisingly ran out of disk space. When I tracked it down I found that there were some two dozen copies of a footage file I had repeatedly imported and deleted from the project still sitting in the cache folder. The file was an avi about 2GB so it was taking up some 40 GB of disk space for stuff that was no longer in the project. I tried shutting down Encore and manually deleting all the cache files, and that worked for most of them, but there was one 2GB file that kept reappearing in the cache folder even though it was no longer in the project. The XML file in the cache folder still had references to it in there so I can only assume that was the reason it kept showing up. I eventually had to delete and totally recreate the project from scratch to regain my lost disk space. This included having to sit thru a 6 hour long transcoding session which pissed me off to no end.
Encore CS3 appears on the surface to be a very powerful, feature rich, and approachable app with a simple easy to use interface, but it is awfully bugged in just about every area I have explored and still needs lots and lots of work for it to be really useful. Frankly for me it is pretty damn annoying that I have invested so much money in this suite only to find several of the apps in it (Encore & Premiere in particular) behaving this poorly. In my opinion every single app in the suite exhibits lousy performance whenever you must do anything at all involving the disk from the time you click to start it up until the time you click to close it down. Several of them are just as seriously bugged as Encore too, and being a long time Photoshop v5.5 user I expected much more from Adobe. Even Photoshop is two or three times as slow now (e.g. it takes about 20-30 seconds to simply create an empty 500x500 pixel image file and almost a full minute to load a 30x60 pixel single-layer gif). So far I have attempted to create 6 DVDs using Encore and after 3 weeks of effort have only succeeded in getting one of them onto a final disk -- and that one is kinda limping to work correctly in my DVD player. Three of those projects became so corrupted while working on them that I had to delete them completely and recreate them from scratch, only to find that I still couldn't get them to completion for one reason or another. Seriously disappointing.

  • I am trying to convert some avi's to mp4 to enable usage with apple tv and imovie.  I have used three different software, two paid and 1 free (Skysoft, Total Converter and Handbrake) but conversion stops at 4:57 minutes.

My computer information:  Mac (27-inch) 3 TB fusion drive, Late 2013, Procesor:3.5 GHz Intel Core i7, Memory:16 GB 1600 MHz,  Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2048 MB, Operating system: Yosemite OS X 10.10.1, iPhoto 9.6, iMovie 10.0.6, Quick Time Player 10.4, ITunes 12.0.1, VLC Version 2.1.5 Rincewind (Intel 64bit)
I have a large number of AVI home video files that need to be converted to MP4's.  All software I have used (iSkysoft Video Converter- paid version, Total Video Converter - paid version and Handbrake - free version) have done the same thing:  the conversion starts but part way through stops and the result is an MP3 clip of exactly 4:57 minutes.  I have been working with Skysoft support with no success.  The firs attempt was with Total Video Converter.  My second attempt was with iSkysoft Video Converter trial version and it converted entire length of video but of course with watermark.  The paid version then started having the short conversion problem.  I just purchased the computer and am new to Macs.

Thank you for your suggestions.  The Handbrake version I have is as follows: Version 0.10.0 x86_64 (2014112200) and I am not sure what website I downloaded it from  The fact the the same problem occurs with multiple softwares makes me think it is something on my computer, a setting or something, but I have no idea what or where to look.
I will definitely check out iFlicks and let you know.
    Thanks

  • 10.6.8: audio goes out of sync in Netflix streaming and *.avi files

    Hello,
This began happening a couple of weeks ago and it's maddening!  There haven't been any software changes or anything recently.
At first I thought it was just a Netflix problem, or perhaps an internet connection problem.  Audio will at some point during play, 'skip', and play the same audio over again (i.e., "Hello, Ja-Hello, Jack!"), and from that point on, the audio is lagged behind the video just a bit.
Then I began watching some *.avi files on my HDD today, and the same thing is happening with them, too!  If I reload the browser or close and reopen the *.avi file, the audio will start out in sync again, but at some random point during playback, it will happen again.
Hope someone knows what's going on!  Thanks!
    Mid-2010 Macbook Pro 10.6.8

For anyone who's interested, I found a solution to this problem. Once imported into Encore, the leader in on the video and audio files cannot be trimmed at all. (I had been trimming the beginning of the video and matching audio file to eliminate the 8 seconds of dead space at the start of the clips.) Although the trim took effect immediately in the Encore timeline and I could also watch it in preview in sync, exporting was another story. The audio track seems to retain the trim when exporting but the video track does not, hence the 6-7 second delay between audio and video.
I reimported the files to my project and left in the 8 seconds of dead space at the start and voila! The video and audio match up when exported.
Ideally the trim tool would just work as its supposed to through export and all, but at least I found a solution I can work with.
(As a note, the trim works just fine in export on Encore CS5. I only had this problem with Encore CS6.)

  • MPEG4 and AVI problems

I just picked up a 80 gb Ipod classic and am having a problem uploading movies to it. Perhaps someone can help me out.
I have the upgraded version of Itunes and about 4 movies that I'd like to slap on my ipod, most of them in AVI format but with one in MPEG4. Itunes will add the avi files to my itunes library so I can try to convert them that way. But that isn't the end of it.
The MPEG4 file can be added to the library easily enough.... but when it goes through the conversion process, all it leaves me with is perfect sound and a plain white screen.
I'm thinking that I need to convert these files BEFORE they go on Itunes, but I can't be sure. Anyone have any suggestions???

No it didn't do the job. Not even close - so I'll open this one up again. It's hardly news that VideoLan is agnostic on these issues - all of us Mac people have defaulted to that player for years whenever QT has had compatibility problems - even with final public release codecs installed to enable QT to function.
Moving to another player platform is hardly a long-term solution for whatever Apple is attempting to integrate into the 7.1 - 7.1.1 series of their QT player. 7.1 was faulty; 7.1.1 doesn't sound anymore agreeable.

  • Audio sync problem - simultaneous HDMI and analog output

I'm currently running my audio out through my Geforce 460 via HDMI to my A/V receiver. I have a simultaneous stereo analog output running through my ASUS Xonar D2, using Pulseaudio & Amarok as the player (VLC-gstreamer backend).
I use the HDMI and A/V receiver to power my main stereo in my living room, but on occasion when I want music around the house, I use the analog line out to send audio to an FM transmitter.
The problem is, I'm running into audio sync problems. The audio starts out synchronised (at least to the naked ear) but within 20-30 seconds it is noticeably out of sync, with the analog audio (form my FM radio) running around a half second ahead of the HDMI output (my main speakers).
So - where to begin finding where the sync problem is? The receiver? Conversions between 44Khz and 48Khz?
Any help much appreciated - google-foo hasn't turned up anything obvious so far.

Yeah - that was my thought - a very difficult, and probably insoluble problem as it stands. I can't just mute one of the devices as that would defeat the purpose of having multi-room music! Fortunately it's not too noticeable usually, as you can't usually hear the main stereo and the FM radios at the same time, unless you're standing in the right part of the house
The analog splitter cable not really a goer, since running clean, crisp multi-channel HDMI with pass through when needed is the essential goal of the HTPC. So unless I was to switch inputs and or unplug cables...
What I will end out doing, in the absence of a software solution, is hooking the FM transmitter directly to my receiver. I was going to just use the headphone-out jack of the receiver to feed audio to the FM transmitter, but the stoopid receiver can't output audio to external speakers at the same time as the headphone is plugged. To overcome this, I'll probably run a headphone amp off the receiver's RCA outputs, into the FM transmitter. • My ipod's music quality is inferior. It doesnt have the surround sound/ left and right audio channel unlike my brothers ipod? is there a problem with the chip?

I have an ipod touch 4g (8GB), I got this about 2.5 months ago, the same time my brother get his. My problem is that I noticed that audio quality is better on his device than mine. I have been listening to music and had different music devices before (non-Apple product and mobile phone) and the quality of music is better when I used to listen to those devices as well as my brother's ipod touch. Im referring to the left and right audio channels. Im not so good about the technical stuff but the best explanation I can give you is in a music or a movie, there's an effect wherein you can here a sound only at the left ear phone/speaker that you cant hear at the right earphone/speaker. I mean for example in a song, a guitar intro can be heared only at the left
ear while the background music plays on the other ear. Or when theres and echo effect on the song that alternates sound on the left and right ear. I hope youre getting what Im trying to say. Im bothered that my ipod is fake or has an internal problem on the chips or something because I didnt bought this at an Apple Center/Mac Center. I bought it on a retailer. I am not able to visit any store or Genius Bar  or contact an apple specialist through phone because of my work schedule and work load.  I have contacted the retailer before when I tried to return it for replacement or repair but he told me that it is under Apple's warranty, not theirs. I do hope that I can get a help from you because I want to really enjoy my device. Thank you and Im looking forward for the responce/assistance form you.

I suggest you don't apply pressure to the screen - it's a Touch - you touch the screen not push it.

  • How to stop the spinning ball/pizza that is stalling repairs to project on imovie 09? on macosx10.5.8 using iomega and superspeed ext h.d. as storage for the events and projects archive of a wedding video that has had audio sync problems on all share form

How to stop the spinning ball/pizza that is stalling repairs to project on imovie 09? on macosx10.5.8 using iomega and superspeed ext h.d. as storage for the events and projects archive of a wedding video that has had audio sync problems on all share formats (iDVD, mp4, and last of all iTunes). The project label now carries signal with yellow triangled exclamation “i tunes out of date”.
To solve the sync problem I’m following advice and detaching sound from all of the 100 or so short clips.  This operation has been stalled by the spinning ball. Shut down restart has not helped.
The Project is mounted from Iomega and superspeed ext hd connected to imovie09 on macosx 10.5.8.
What to do to resume repairs to the audio sync problem and so successfully share for youtube upload?

  • WMV3Server plays avi files containing WMV3/9 video and MP3 audio

    WMV3Server
To play avi files with WMV3/9 video and MP3 audio encoding on Mac OS X as of 2005-01-24 you will need:
Mac OS X 10.2 or later
    WMV3Server
Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X
An .avi file containing WMV3 video and MP3 audio.
    Instructions:
Launch the WMV3Server java application and click the "Open" button.
A standard open-dialog window appears. Either navigate to the avi video file or drag the file into the open window to have the window switch to the folder that contains the avi video file. Select the file and click the "Open" button or press return on the keyboard. The open-dialog window should close.
Next, click the "Start" button. The movie will be cached and WMV3Server will display "Server Started"
Open Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X. Pull down the "File" menu on the menu bar at the top of the screen and select "Open URL..." Enter the following address:
    mmst://localhost:1755/
Windows Media Player should connect, buffer and play.
The download page (in Japanese) for WMV3Server is here:
    http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Bay/8128/
    The download link is:
    http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Bay/8128/WMV3Server-0.4.zip

Update: By playing around with the settings in the Default Applications preference pane (a free download) I somehow got the files to open automatically in QuickTime Player (with Flip4Mac WMV 2.0.1 installed) and they now play (instead of showing white video as they had previously. Unfortunately, I don't recall what I changed.
Here's a sample file (apparently a beer commercial.):

  • SCCM 2012 Client and Workstation Audio and Video Problems

    SCCM 2012 SP1 environment.
We have pushed out the SCCM Client successfully to our systems - however we have found that on some computers the SCCM Client is causing an audio/video problem - specifically it appears to be with computers that connect monitors via DVI.  As an example,
on my laptop (Dell e6420, Win7 x64) I have a docking station that connects my laptop to 2 external monitors.  With the SCCM Client installed I cannot listen to music or watch videos - the result is an unusable choppiness/stuttering listening to music
and with a video the audio and video get out of sync.  As well, my mouse no longer functions smoothly - it jumps around.  This happens whether accessing content from a website or simply a local file on my computer.  If I uninstall the SCCM client,
the issue goes away entirely.  I have tried disabling the SMS and Remote control services but doing so does not resolve the issue, only a client uninstall. Note that this only happens when the laptop is on the docking station - with DVI - it doesn't
happen when the laptop is running without an external monitor or if plugged into an HDMI output device.
At first we believed this was limited to this model of laptop in our environment (Win8 or Win7 - both result in the same problem), but now we are hearing about "audio and video issues" on Dell 990 workstations as well.  I believe these stations
have DVI connected monitors.  Driver updates do not appear to resolve the issue.
Has anyone experienced this in their environment?  Note that this happens on imaged workstations and workstations installed from a vanilla Windows 7 or 8 CD.

Try installing the client without Silverlight and see if it helps (this is only used for the Application Catalog).
