Power adapter and three-prong plug

Hello,
My used iBook G3 500MHz came with a model A1036 power adapter. The AC cord has a three-prong plug.
Is this the correct adapter for this unit? Replacement power adapters all seem to have only a two-prong plug.
Is the three-prong plug necessary?
Thanks.

Thanks, Ronda.
Since it states that, when replacing the AC cord, "replace like-for-like", can I assume that my three-prong adapter is indeed grounded, unlike the two-prong model?
Do your iBooks use the two- or three-prong adapters?

You'll certainly need a new logic board.
If I were you, I would take the machine into your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them evaluate the problems and give you an estimate for repair. If you're out of warranty, be prepared to pay a very high price to get your computer repaired.

  • IPod displays a picture of a power adapter and wall plug & won't go away!

Okay, I am trying to update a mini ipod for my neice. I originally have the 20GB ipod. Hers however is the 1.1 mini ipod... and I think it was formated for windows on a pc, but I didn't know this until after I reset it on my mac.
I reset it to the factory setting, but it said I needed to plug it into the wall jack to complete the software settings... which is cool and fine. So i did by USB, but now all I get is this iPod displays a picture of a power adapter and wall plug. The icon will not go away and neither will anything change. I can't turn it off and if I try to bring up anything, all I get is the apple and then this icon, over and over again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Ipod Mini   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   I think this mini was formated for a PC, does that matter?

Actually I did do what is it said, and it continued to blink the power adapter and wall plug picture, while I had it plugged into the wall socket. So that is why I posted this question.
So someone else actually replied to my question and said that I have to plug it into my car ac adapter and it would finish rebooting... which it did.
Thanks for the tips. I'm not computer iliterate, I'm just learning about the ipod.

  • 4th Gen. ipod. No longer charges from wall socket. Still can charge from computer. Wall power adapter and cord both work fine on other devices. Wall Why?

4th Generation ipod. Used to charge fine from wall socket (cord and USB adapter) and could also charge on the computer. Suddenly stopped charging from the wall. The same cord and adapter still work for my iphone, so there is not problem with either of them. What has changed? Why won't the ipod charge from the wall anymore? Is there anything I can do about it?

Thanks! It didn't actually work with the one I was using to charge the computer either. We had tried the computer cable with the power adapter, and it didn't  work to charge the ipod, though it does charge my iphone. Following your idea further,  I waited for my husband to get home from a trip and tried one of his extra cables he keeps in his backpack. That cable worked in with the USB  power adaptor. I had thought that because the cable I use on my computer charges my iphone through the USB power adapter or the computer, and that it charged the ipod through the computer that it was fully functional. Apparantly not.  Thanks again.

  • I just bought a power adapter and it is not working, says "not charging".   The same for the mobile charger.   Anything I need to do in the setting?

The device is locked to the carrier it was purchased through unless you specifically purchased it as unlocked directly from Apple.
Only the carrier to whom it is locked can authorize it's unlocking.  To do so, the user much contact them to start the unlock process.

  • Which power adapter and cord to order?

Aloha, I cannot figure out which power adapter and cord to order for my Mac OS X 10.7.5.  Does it matter if it is a Magsafe or Magsafe 2?  I have a T shaped connector.  The 15-inch Mac Pro  is early 2008.  Mahalo!

    Hello james516,
Your MacBook Pro utilizes an 85 watt power adapter with a MagSafe adapter.

  • New power adapter and battery, still not working?!

A couple days ago, my macbook stopped charging. The power adapter was plugged in, but there was no indication that it recognized it or was charging, so I figured it was a broken power adapter. I bought a new one, plugged it in, everything was fine - until the next day. The new power adapter stopped working as well. So, I go to the genius bar, and they tell me it's my battery. I buy a new battery and plug in the new charger. Everything's working again, until I unplug the power adapter to move my laptop into another room - and now it's not charging again! I tried every power outlet, and something is definitely wrong with the macbook itself. I'm pretty frustrated since I've now spent $200 on new stuff and the problem still isn't resolved.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

B, Have you downloaded and applied this firmware update?

Before you do so, you may want to try just a plain old SMC reset:

  • Power source: Power Adapter even when not plugged in

My 13" Macbook (Late 2008 Version) says that the power source is the power adapter even when it is not plugged in. Because of this it will not switch to the energy saver options for when it is running off of the batter as opposed to being plugged in. Why is it doing this? I have tried resetting the SMC and that has not worked.

mine has started to do the same thing. I have reset the nano 3 times. When I turn it off the "charged battery" icon stays on though the light is off. I plugged it in to the computer and had to reset for the computer to find. After leaving it plugged in for a few hours I unplugged and tried again. Still says "charged" all the time.
I could try a hard reset...., but has any one else experienced this?

  • Apple FireWire Power Adapter and iPod Classic

I just looked through the user guide, and it doesn't mention anything positive or negative about using the Apple FireWire Power Adapter that came with my 3G iPod. Any chance I'm going to fry my new iPod if I try charging it with the Firewire Power Adapter?
    Thanks,
    Steve

No, you will not fry your new iPod.

  • Where to buy a S12 power adapter, and any cheaper option?

I enjoy using my new Lenovo S12 ION, but getting tired of bring the power adapter to workplace everyday. So I was thinking of getting an additional power adapter. Where can I buy one? And is there any cheaper option (knowing that genuine Lenovo one is gonna be expansive)? Thanks.

I picked one up from eBay for $12.98, including shipping.  It comes from China, but they send the US power cord.

  • Amazon power adapter and iPod Touch 4

I am waiting for an iPod Touch 4th gen to arrive and now I wonder: The iPods usually don't have the actual Apple Power Adaptor included and instead of that, there is only a USB cable. However, I happen to own the Amazon Kindle which has the adaptor for US sockets. Is it possible to charge the iPod Touch 4 (without damaging it, of course) with the Amazon adaptor whilst its specifications are: Input 100-240V ~ 0.15A 50/60Hz; Output: 5.0V ... 0.85A
I should also mention that I am living in EU, so I will be using it with a reduction for EU sockets but that shouldn't anyhow interfere with the functionality, I suppose.
    Thank you

It should work but the current (0.85 A is a little lower than the Griffen (1A) charger I use so it may charge a little slower. However, most USB ports on computer only put out about 1/2 A so 0.85 should be fine.

  • TS1383 the battery  on my ipod is out of power and i have plugged it into the adapter and the charging screen is not on and in fact there is nothing but a blan unlit screen any thoughts

the battery on my ipod is out of power and i have plugged in the power adapter and there is no screen message in fact the screen is unlit and blank  any thoughts

I assume knowing shows on the display at all? How long have you left it to charge?  It can take up to 30 minutes for the iPod to show any signs of life and even then it sometimes still requires a hard reset of the iPod to get it to boot up.
Otherwise, tr a reset. To do this, press and hold both the Select/Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • Difference between 2 prong and 3 prong magsafe power cord

    Hi,
My Mac Book pro 13 came with a 2 prong adapter. As the extra cable that hold the three prong plug adds extra weight to my briefcase am I safe and just fine using the shorter two prong plug adapter?
    Whats the difference?
    Thanks.

Of course not, both meet all the safety regulations of the countries they are intended for. In the event of faults (either house wiring or the magsafe itself) the 3 pin is safer (assuming that the location has a good, connected ground)
