Power adapter cord will snap soon....

It appears my power adapter cord will snap soon... It's slightly cracked towards the end where the cord meets the rectangular magsafe connector.
Is there a way to fix this before it's too late?

The only way this can really happen is if:
1 - You accidentally tripped over the cable (or some other way) that yanked the Magsafe free from your MacBook by the cable. If this is the case, it did exactly what it is supposed to do... protect your MacBook from tumbling to the floor... sometimes at the cost of the much cheaper adapter.
2 - You've been disconnecting the Magsafe by pulling the cord... which would have the same effect as #1. In order to disconnect the Magsafe connector, you should be doing so at the connector itself, not by the cord.
There is no harm in seeing if Apple will replace it for you. I would not recommend attempting a repair on your own... especially since the damage is right at the connector. You don't really want to take a chance at creating a fire hazard for something that is reasonably inexpensive to replace.

  • 4G IPOD SHOWS POWER ADAPTER CORD

HELP!!! My 4g ipod has a frozen screen showing the power adapter cord connecting to an outlet even though I connected it to my computer. I just updated it with the latest software and it still shows it.

"My 4g ipod has a frozen screen showing the power adapter cord connecting to an outlet even though I connected it to my computer...the weird thing is is that i don't even have an AC charger."
    I am confused...
You might want to look at Knowledge Base Document #93936 on iPod iconology or what does this picture on my iPod mean?. It says,
"This icon appears on the screen during an update or restore that occurs when iPod is connected to the computer via a low or no-power connector. This can include some USB ports and 4-pin FireWire ports. When this appears, disconnect iPod from the computer and connect it to the power adapter. Then plug the power adapter into a power outlet. The update or restore will complete and iPod will restart to the main menu."
    I hope that helps,
    Jon
[Never mind, I read it wrong. I thought it was plugged into the wall outlet and even though it had been plugged into the computer]

  • Power Adapter Cord Transformer/Brick/Block Thingy

The power brick/block on my power adapter cord get sooooo hot! How hot is too hot? This is a replacement cord after the first one's magsafe died. This one is the 85W. This one is working fine, but the block is so hot (seems especially hot today). If I hold it up to my ear I can hear a faint buzzing noise. Is this normal? Thanks.

OK, thanks. That's what I have been doing (letting it sit asleep but on) have actually had this for... hmmm I think its having a 2 year birthday! But this brick is new and I think it might have just been the intensity of the cpu and the location of the brick. I hope. It was HOT. I could pick it up, but if I put my hand flat against it's flat side, it was too hot to keep my hand there. (is it of any use to actually measure the temp?) Right now it is on a table, actually near an open window so that is cool air, and it is just warm. Normal amount I think. Still making the buzzing only if I hold it up to my ear. Battery indicator says 96%. Cord itself is not warm at all neither is mag safe. I'm going to mark this as "solved." But do post if you/anyone has anything additional to add or if that one overheating episode sounds like a bad indicator of a problem. I don't want to leave it unattended if it is a fire risk. Most important of all because of our animals.

  • IPad won't charge using power adapter but will charge via USB

I have an iPad 1 that recently stopped charging using the power adapter. "Broken power adapter or cable" I thought and reached for a spare that I have. That didn't work either. The original power adapter however DID charge another iPad without any problems, so the problem cannot be with the adapter or cable.
Now this is the wierd bit - using the original cable plugged into my laptop I get the usual "Not charging" message but the iPad DOES charge slowly this way.
I rebooted the iPad, restarted it in recovery mode and restored the firmware, cleaned out the 30-pin connector port - all those useful bits of advice that you find on the internet but all to no avail. The iPad just will not charge using any of the many  original Apple iPad charger sthat I have been able to get my hands on but will only charge on an underpowered USB port!
The 30-pin connector must work otherwise it wouldn't charge via USB. Can there be some kind of wierd internal hardware defect that might cause such behavior?
I fear that if I take a 3 year old iPad to the Apple Store they might just give me their best smile and show me the latest iPads but this old iPad works fine otherwise and I don't really want to replace it.
    Anyone got any ideas?

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
And this - Unplug the charger from the iPad and then replug. May resume charging.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Power adapter/cord for the Power Mac G5 A1177 EMC 2023?

How do I determine the correct power adapter/cord for the Power Mac G5 A1177 EMC 2023? I suppose I would need a part number or identifier to look for a replacement.
So far, I haven't been able to determine the answer from Apple's support search or other search methods. I do not have an original user's manual but the one I found on the net doesn't specify the correct power cord.

    Hi-
That is a Late 2005 Dual Core machine?
    This cord:

  • HT5234 how can you clean the magsafe power adapter cord?

The white cord that is connected to the adapter and the L- tip power port is quite dirty and i was wondering if there is a way that your can clean it i tried scratching it with scissors, it works but im afraid that it will reack the cord is there any other way?

That's mean i can't? Cause my power adapter was dead and i bought a new one today. So I should go to AppleCare then?
    Thanks for answering btw.

  • Macbook pro magsafe power adapter - cord melted

Has anyone had the cord on their power adapter burn or melt through? I've had my Macbook Pro for 3+ years and taken great care of it. I experienced the battery bulge issues and has two batteries replaced under AppleCare. I came home yesterday to find this:

    Any ideas?
I realize I'm outside of my AppleCare now but I still find this alarming.

    I would take MBP & Magsafe to your local Apple Store or AASP. Otherwise, see the following KB Articles;

  • Airplane power adapter cord for PowerBook..?

Apple recently announced a power adaptor cord for the MacProBook to be used on the airlines..
Is there also a similar product that is available for the PowerBook G4 ?

    Hi Robert,
Cords for G4 Powerbooks are only available from third-parties, like Madsonline - http://www.madsonline.com/Auto_Adapters.html .
Apple has only released a magsafe version to avoid having to license the connector.

  • What is the necessity of the AC power cord (with Mac Book Air)? When should it be used with the power adapter?

what is the necessity of the AC power cord (with the Mac book Air)? when should it be used?

Gary, you wouldn't believe some of the questions people ask on this site.
    Why are both cords necessary?
    They are not.
Other than the two reasons dominic23 sited are there any other reasons to use the AC power cord rather than the power adapter cord alone?
    No.

  • Power adapter light goes out & battery kicks in + random shutdowns

    Hi,
there's a few weird things going on the last couple of weeks.....i'm wondering if any of them could have to do with the 10.4.9 update that i installed and really screwed up my mac.....it took an hour+ on apple tech support to do the re install because it would not load after i did that update.
so here's the screwy things that have been happening:
sometimes the light on the power adapter just goes off and the battery kicks in - i'm wondering why it does that........and sometimes the power light goes off the computer just shuts down at the same time really fast.......like in less than a second.....i'll wait a little bit and start up again and it'll happen again........but sometimes it'll fine for quite a while and then boom.......it shuts down again.
also, sometimes it's sleeping and when i pop the top the light on the adapter cord goes out.
also, the sleep light is not on when i am using it but goes on when i put it to sleep
i contacted apple (no apple care and past the 90 phone support) and they are sending a new power adapter cord.....the guy at tech didn't know if this was a hard drive issue (which means i could send it back and get it fixed for free cuz of warranty) so we're trying a new cord first and see what happens.
has this happened to anyone? my mac pro is about 5 months old....
    thanks,
    itsmesunny

    Hi,
actually the cord came today........and the other part - the square white thing with the cord connection to the mac with the magnet...... is coming separately - i found out after calling them and asking them where the rest of it was (he said maybe it was from a different warehouse was why they weren't together).......is that the "magsafe" that you're referring to?
when that comes i hope that when i hook it up it fixes the problem......i'm using my oldie but goodie ibook now until it's working ok....
the guy did not ask me to reset the smc.........i guess cuz i don't have apple care or tech support now that's all he was willing to do - send me a free power adapter and see if that works first - he said it was $49 to do anything else but if it was determined to be a hard drive issue then it would be free and refunded to me and i could send it back.
you know i think it depends on who you talk to......sometimes they help me even if i don't have the tech support.
so anyway when i get the adapter i'll hook it up and see if it's a go...
    thanks,
    itsmesunny
PS apple is quick - both times i've sent stuff to them i have gotten it back almost immediately. i talked to the guy yesterday and it was here today....can't beat that!

  • Looking For: DDTS-100 Power Adapter

    Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a power adapter/cord for a DDTS-100. Any of you have one available for me to take off you. I'm willing to pay for it. Please message me ASAP. Thanks.

Thanks for the specs. Unfortunately, the real problem is 6V AC adapters are extremely hard to come by, as I can't find one anywhere.

  • 2010 Macbook Pro Power Adapter broken?

We have a 2010 Macbook Pro 13" that was working perfectly fine since we bought it last June. What a surprise, just out of the 1 year period and suddenly the power adapter starts to malfunction. One day we noticed that the charger was plugged in but the light wasn't on and the battery icon showed the computer wasn't charging. I unplugged and replugged the plug into the wall a few times and finally the light came on and the computer showed a charging symbol. The next day when we plugged the charger in again the light again didn't turn on and computer was not charging. We tried jiggling the plug and replugging it and after many tries was able to get it working again. This has been going on for a few days now.
Today while the laptop was plugged in, it suddenly crashed, rebooted itself, and the date/time was reset to many years ago. Wifi didn't seem to connect for a while, but eventually it did and it seemed the date self corrected. Tonight, we have been unsuccessfull in coaxing the charger to work and finally decided to post here. Since we are out of our 1 year limited warranty, we are no longer eligible for Apple Care or charger replacement. Do we have to shell out the $79 for a new adapter? Is it really the adapter that is broken, and not the macbook? I've seen some other similar issues posted on the board but didn't really find a solid answer to the problem.

This has happened to me too, at least a couple times.  I think that one problem is the power adapter cord is not designed for repeated twisting and bending.  It should be, but it isn't.  From now on, I will be gentle with it and that may prevent failure.  Be careful with the LED (green/yellow light) end.  Do not bend it much from the end to a couple inches from the end.  Apple's peripherals (ear buds, power adapters, etc.) do not measure up to the standards of its iPods, iPhones, and computers.  They never have.  It's frustrating.

  • "Universal Laptop DC car charger power adapter" for Lenovo g530

Hey there,  I'm a complete tech numskull, so pardon me if this is incredibly naive.  I recently made an impulse buy of an off-brand "Universal Laptop DC car charger power adapter" with the hopes of using it in a car with my Lenovo G530.  I haven't gotten it yet but after purchasing it, I noticed the power adapter that came with my Lenovo  is "AC."  Is it possible to us the DC adapter with my laptop, where my cord says "AC"?  I obviously don't want to fry my laptop and was wondering what I should look out for.  The adapter was pretty cheap, which is another red flag but it also means I won't be out much if I made a mistake in buying it (ebay purchase).
Thanks in advance for your input.

It seems the spare is the new specs. Check these 2 spares. They are the same 4.74amp. http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-3000-G530-444638U-Adapter/dp/B002Z209G6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronic... http://www.amazon.com/COMPUTER-Power-Adapter-Cord-LENOVO/dp/B002MY2MLM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electron...

  • HT4060 My I pad 2 is not charging throuh USB Power Adapter but it is chrging from computer through USB (with sign of no charging). Would  you please give any solution for that?

I have facing problem of charging my I pad through USB power adapter. It is not giving any response when connected to power adapter. When it is connected with USB port of computer it is charging with sign of "not charging" and it takes long time to cahrge. please help me to sove my problem.

I have no idea why the iPad would not be charging with another power adapter but will charge thought the USB port on your computer. Try rebooting the iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up
If that doesn't help, I think that the next thing that I would try would be to reset all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings. If you do this, all device settings will have to be re-entered and tha does take some time to do.

  • Power Adapter 3000 c200

    Hi,
Grandson in a bit of a pickle (needs this for school) so he turned to me and I don't have an answer, hopefully one of you fine folks can help
He has a Lenovo 3000 c200 and the power adapter has broken and needs to be replaced.
Someone has offered to lend him their adapter from a Lenovo Thinkpad X60
I looked up the adapter on the Lenovo site and it appears to indicate that the adapter is the same for both models and therefore he can use the X60 one on the C200....
Can someone verify of that is correct?
    Many thanks in advance
    Al
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    both of them has same specifications such as 20v, 4,5a, 90 watt, input : 100-240v ~ 1.5a 50/60 hz.
so, he can use it. ( still to make sure, check specifications by yourself, too )
