the power adapter of my mac book pro 17" heats up a lot almost burns the hand!!!!!! Any suggestions to override this problem

The adaptor should get a little warm, but not enough that you can't hold it. Contact Apple to see about having it replaced under warranty.

Yes, a 13" non-Air model requires a minimum of 60 watts, so you will be fine. If it is a 2011 or earlier model, the connector is the regular MagSafe, whereas this year's models use the MagSafe 2 that is different.

  • HT204032 I dont have power nap feature on my mac book pro...

I dont have power nap feature on my mac book pro eventhough I am runnng the latest version of Mountain Lion and I have Retina display. How can I get it?

I downloaded the software for my mid 2012 Retina MBP and it says it is not compatible with my system!
    Retina, Mid 2012, MBP 15-in
    2,3 GHz Intel Core i7

  • After restart I have to power up several times before Mac Book Pro boots

Just got a new MBP 2.4 GHz with 2 GB ram. It started up fine, but I notice that after restarting (after software updates and the like), I often have to power up several times before it will actually boot up.
When it doesn't boot up, I get a gray screen and the light on the front of the machine blinks 3 times, pasues for about 3 secs then repeats the 3 blinks. It does this until I hit the power button, at which point it will immediately shut off. I wait a few seconds then hit the power button again to start up, if I am lucky it will show me the apple logo and boot up. if I am not lucky, it will do the same 3 blink cycles again.
I've had as many as 10 tries before it would boot up some times. This really ***** because I just bought the machine 1 week before the 2.6 GHz machine were released. Had I even known newer ones were one the radar, I would have waited!!!!
Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

ya call apple, but you may want to try resetting pram and SMC (turn off machine take out battery and power adapter hold power button for 5 seconds and ur smc is reset, put it all back turn on and hold command+ optionpr until you hear the 3rd chime and your pram is reset)
apple may also ask you to run an apple hard ware test, take you original gray dvds that came with the machine and boot from it while holding d and run the extended test and see if you get an error. that will help make things go faster if you do all that first before calling apple

  • Power saving mode freezing my mac book pro

    Dear all,
i have a MacBook Pro 15"  late 2009, which was coming with Snow Leopard.
I have two video cards installed, one GeForce 9400 for the longer battery life, and one GeForce 9600M GT for better performance.
Before installing OsX Lion both configuration were working perfectly, no any issue.
After the installation of Lion I can work only on high performance configuration.
If I choose the power saving config. after 3 to 5 minutes i get my system frozen, with the message that i must turn off my laptop by keep press the power button.
After reboot, i get automatically the high performance config, which has never shown this problem so far.
My question is: is a Lion problem with drivers for that graphic card? or is an hardware problem?
is there any way to solve this issue? I'm travelling on planes most of my time and a longer battery life span would help me a lot.
Now that i can choose only the high performance i got maximum 3 hours battery time, before with leopard in power saving config i had 5.5 hours.
    Any idea???
Thanks in advance for your reply.
    Marco

no one has a clue about this problem?

  • Can you point me to the setting that reopens all word documents on startup after the laptop shuts down due to loss of power? I'm a mac book pro user.  Many thanks!

It'd be great if you could also advise on reopening safari windows on start up.  I'm after the setting that helps us restore everything only after shutdown due to loss of power and not all the time!  Thanks!

The option is in System Perferences on the General section (first Icone in Sys Perf) down near the bottom.
It's called "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening  apps".
But that may not be the setting your are looking for.
There is also a setting on the Shut Down and Restart windows that says "Reopen windows when logging back in".
But is you computer shutting OFF, "I Mean Really Shutting OFF", or just going into Sleep mode.
If it is really turning complete off then that setting is not saved. For that to work the computer has to be shut down or re-started properly allowing the OS to save that App state.

  • Brand New 13" Mac Book Pro

How long should it take to power up my new 13" mac book pro?

Well it depends on quite a number of factors. Most importantly, how full is the HDD? And is it a mechanical drive, or an SSD? And how much RAM is installed?
A stock model I would guestimate around 20-30 seconds.

  • Mac Book Pro 17" 85W Power Adapter too Hot to handle while charging/using

    Hello All,
I bought a Mac Book Pro 17". What's up with my Power Adapter when I am using the computer at the same time charging it. The Power Adapter gets so hot that it is too hot to handle...very very hot! Is this normal ?
Any advise is most welcome on the matter.
Mac Book Pro 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Simple answer, no its not normal
The adapter should get warm, but not hot
The first thing i'd do is try it in a different power socket
If it still heats up like you say regardless of where you plug it in, then its a fault in the adapter
return it to apple or an apple reseller and get another one
i wouldn't use it any more as it could be dangerous to your computer and become a fire hazzard

  • Can I use my mac book pro with 120 volt and 240 volt power supplies?  Does the power converter automatically switch, so I just need a different adapter plug?

I got my mac book pro in the U.S., but I will be travelling to where there is 240 volt power.  Does the mag safe power adapter switch automatically, so I just need a converter plug, or do I need a transformer to convert from 240 to 120 volts?  Thanks.

    Hi,
I too bought my Macbook Pro in the US and I live in the UK (its so much cheaper in the US! No 20% VAT!)
The power adapter does work on UK 230v power. You can also get a three pin extension lead (like the 2 pin US one that came with the MBP) for about £3 with free delivery from Amazon UK.
Another tip, whne you are back in the UK, and you are switching from a PC to a Mac, get in touch with your local Apple Shop who run one to one free courses on how to use your MBP.
    Hope This Helps!!

  • TS1713 my power adapter gets very hot on my mac book pro is this normal

my power adapter gets very hot to toutch on my mac book pro is this normal

Hot is normal for the charger but very hot is not. If it were mine It could be that your MBP is drawing too much current. I would take it to the Apple Store and have it checked out.

  • HT3964 BRAND NEW MAGSAFE POWER ADAPTER WON'T CHARGE THE MAC BOOK PRO

I'VE RESET MY MAC BOOK PRO BECAUSE THE POWER ADAPTER STOPPED LIGHTING UP & WORKING AND ITY'S STILL NOT CHARGING THIS IS A BRAND NEW MACBOOKPRO I JUST PURCHASED IN BEST BUY & I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO IT'S NOT CHARGING THE BOOK! DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT I SHOULD DO?

    Do a SMC Reset,
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3046
A new machine shouldn't need one, but it's it's not charging that's the solution.
All I can figure it sat on a shelf at Best Buy too long, they are closing 50 stores so I hear, so apparantly they haven't been busy like a Apple Store is and product flies off the shelves in pristine charged up like condiiton.

  • Power adapter mac book pro

I bought an Apple Mac Book Pro in the UK and operates on DC. I am moving to Canada and that power is AC DC. Can I use a simple plug adapter or do I have to get a power adapter. I briefly tried to plug in with the simple plug adapter and it sparked just as I started to put it in.
I was assured by apple in UK that there was no problem. I now question this.

    Hi--
If you want, you can get a set of adapters from Apple that fit into your MacBook Pro's power brick. Just look up "World Power" at the Apple online store if this link doesn't work.

  • Problems with new Mac Book Pro 13'' +power adaptor

    Hi there,
I'm new here and first of all I'd like to appologize from my lack of technical language, since my only interesst in computers is that they don't give me problems so I can keep not knowing too much about them.
Ok, so I bought the new Mac Book Pro 13'' exactly 2 months ago cause my old and long travelled Power Book G4 died. I didn't hesitate to spend the money to buy the new one, cause I was so happy with my experience with the old one and in my mind returning to PCs was not even considered.
BUT...I'm not totally happy about my new laptop...from day 1 Safari would just close itself but I didn't give too much thought about it. After this, not only Safari can close up to several times a day, but also iphoto or any other program that I use for work. But that's not all..One day it would take minutes to start running and it would go extremely slow...another day it would start also very slow but also it wouldn't show the tools bar on top or my folders. Another time it would show me, instead of the normal starting page, a page where it would ask me to accept or not a kind of revision for hardware. After so many problems of course I pressed yes...everything seemed normal, then computer started and seemed to be running normal again (aside from this safari and other programs that shut down). Today my computer, when moved, just went totally blank but fortunately I could start it with nor problems after it.
So...anyone knows what the problem must be?? Should I take it to a Technical service ??? and there's another issue...i'm handing in m phD in a week so I can't just be without computer now, and in a week I'm flying to Canada where I also will need my computer for work...what can I do???
And the second problem...the power adaptor from the beginning seemed to act funny sometimes...sometimes charching, sometimes not, I would follow the instructions in the support part and after being several minutes changing one cord for the other, to keep it 1 minute disconnected and so at some point it would start functioning again. But this happened seldom so also I would think it was a protectiion mechanism of the adapter. But, when this is happening more often than not, then it gets annoying. Also I've been transporting it in a careful way since I bought it to find that after only 2 months in the cord (from the computer to adaptor) you can see the internal cable as if there was some cut...a third one seems to be appearing too. I've taken it to the technical support and the guy who was helfpul but also honest said he couldn't do anything for me cause since there were those cuts, he could always be said that it was a misuse of it-an accident and then he would have to pay the replace himself. Well, it's not!!! My old adaptor has been transported in a way less careful way and it's survived with NO problems for 5 years. The material is clearly different from the old cord. This one because it's new, I only need to put it in a special bag air protected. Honestly I don't feel happy to pay 80 € for an adaptor that I don't know if it's gonna last me only 2 months or that I know I can't transport normally. The guy suggested me to ask in forums and to call directly to the apple technical service.
Again, has anyone had any similar problems with the adaptor???
    Rosanna

Take it to an Apple retailer and have the computer repaired.  It is still in warranty.

  • What adapter/converter do I use for my USA mac book pro in NEW ZEALAND?

I'm studying abroad in New Zealand for 2 months and was wondering what type of adapter/converter do I use? I'm actually already here in New Zealand but buy a converter/adapter before I left. What should I look for on the box? I have a mac book pro 13 in that I bought in 2011.Thanks!

The MacBook Pro power adapter is multi-voltage capable, so you will need just an AC outlet adapter for the New Zealand power system.
