Power Adapter Ring alternating Green/Orange

The LED on my PB power adapter keeps alternating between green for about 2 seconds and then orange for about a second. This happens continuously. I've tried 2 different adapters.
Any ideas?

I also have similar problems. My machine is not so far gone. The battery works normally and seems to have a proper charge life. The problem for me is during recharging. Like so many other people on this forum, my mac's ac adaptor light alternates from green to orange while trying to charge. the icon alternates from a percentage charging to a frustrating 'no batteries available' message. I have 2 bateries, both seem fine. The amount of users with similar problems confirms this. I have tried every possible angle, including a drastic zeroing of the hard disk and fresh install of the system and my software. I updated to 10.4.6 right away, not making the connection that it may be the cause. I tried resets to the PMU, I bought a secong power adaptor.

  • Alternating Green / Orange Light - Charging and On Battery

I am seeing the battery charge status alternating from charging to not charging and at the same time the adapter ring is from Orange to Green on a random basis. It is almost like the power adapter is loose, but I tried 2 seperate adapters and the same thing happens. Now, once the powerbook is fully charged the problems seem to vanish unless you actually wiggle the cord.
I have tried resetting the power management with holding down the power button after unplugging and removing battery. I also have tried the COMMAND-OPTION-P-R keypress on startup. The battery has 300 cycles.
Does anyone have any ideas that I can try or is this a DC Board that needs to be replaced?

Just a follow-up for anyone else having this problem.
After a very unsatisfactory issue with AppleCare I went into the local Apple store and waited for 2 hours to see a Genious. He was helpful and noticed the cord was loose (great observation since I had told him that) and he gave me a new power supply. I have to say, he tried to help. Got the powerbook home, plugged in with the new power supply and guess what? Same issue again. I was so impressed. Anyways, a few weeks ago when the problem started I had orderd a new DC board from powerbookmedic.com (I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE DOING THIS!!!!) and followed some directions, took it apart and changed the board. Guess what, problem solved.
I am writing some letters over the next few days to Apple. They need to train their techs on the phone to LISTEN to the customer. Every contact I have had was to try and NOT do anything. It is totally unsatisfactory.

  • Power adapter flashing

    Hi
I have a problem with my PowerBook G4. I have it for 4 years now, but this problem came out a month ago.
The power adapter usually lights green when the battery is full or orange when it's charging. And mine is flashing dark orange. And i cannot turn on the computer. I took it to the local agent and they said they have to replace the board sound/dc-in.
After they replaced board sound with a new one i took my computer back home. It was working fine for a while. That is untill I shuted it down. Then same problem again. They have to order new board sound again and replace it.
Now i have removed the battery and didn't use my PB for few days and it's working just fine.
Do you think it could be related to the batteries they are recalling?? Coz my battery did qualify for the battery exchange program both times.
any idea what could be wrong. Can't be the board sound or can it?

I've got something like this happening.
I'm starting to have a problem with my adaptor blinking between green and orange on my Powerbook G4 15". It also is making a slight beep with the battery in. The battery is lighting up with the 5th light blinking at the same time. I have to remove my battery to boot up or else the hard drive spins up and nothing else happens.
I reset power manager twice, reset PRAM, reset firmware, fixed file permissions, ran Techtools etc.
This started because I was using an iBook power adapter. But I've used that for some time. It doesn't work completely without the battery but works fine with the adapter for the Powerbook.
I'm assuming this is the battery or a more difficult type of reset that needs to be performed.

  • Flicking light on power adapter

The light on my power adapter flickers between green and off (not amber) and whilst its doing this, it won't charge.
Over the last few days also, my battery has gone from 100% at full charge to 97% at full charge (its done 31 cycles and the full charge capacity is 4809, although I don't really understand what all that means!). It also tells me silly things, for example, it just told me I have 11.11 mins remaining on my battery!
I've tried cleaning the contacts to see if that helps but it doesn't really.
Its the 2nd power adapter I have had since having the macbook in August, and I don't really know what to do. I live over a 200 mile round trip from an apple store so that isn't a realsitic option to take it somewhere. I don't have applecare, and so I feel on my own in solving this!
Hoping someone will take pity on me and help!

Have you calibrated your battery lately?
Have you done the battery update? Apple: About Battery Update 1.2.
You should reset the SMC (System Management Controller).

  • Power adapter turns a darker shade of orange

Sometimes when i plug in my power adapter it turns a darker shade of orange.
Is this a bad or good thing?

What do you mean by "darker"?
When your battery is less then full and you plug in the iBook then the light will turn orange to signify that it is charging, rather then the usualy green that means your battery is full…does this solve your problem, or is it something else that I'm not understanding?

  • 600xt won't occasionally won't wake/power-on... green light on the power adapter is out... strange

Within the last 3 weeks or so our TouchSmart 600xt has goes into an odd state 4 different times... after being left unattended for some time we'll return to find the machine appears to be off & will not turn on via pressing the power button (the button on the upper right edge of the screen.) It typically sleeps after 20min, and if sleeping he power button will be glowing orange... in this case the light is off entirely. Also, when this occurs the green light on the power adapter is not lit. The power adapter behavior is quite out of the ordinary; its light never seens to be off, even if the PC is shut down completely. But it is when this happens.
The only recourse seems to be to unplug the power adapter, then plug it back in, after which the green light on the adapter lights, the power button lights, & the machine can be turned on by the power button.
Concerned we will lose some files if the shutdowns keep occuring. We've had the machine nearly a year, and this is new behavior in the last 3 weeks. However note that not during every sleep cycle does it occur. (The machine goes to sleep after being unattended on average 6 times daily and this has happened "only" 4 times it slept in the last 3 weeks.)
Thoughts? Some power-saving circuit in the power adapter gone awry perhaps?

I would suggest buying a new power adapter.
I have more HP devices than you'd expect.

  • Why does it take me so many tries before I can get the amber and/ or green light to come on, on my MagSafe power adapter?

I have been having a problem for a little while now, and I have decided to overlook it for the most part. However, it is really starting to get on my nerves. The issue I don't believe is with the MacBook Pro itself, however with the MagSafe power adapter. The adapter itself is in great condition, it is brand new, but when I attach it to the computer, the computer reads that it is there, as it shows it is charging or is charged as shown by the battery indicator in the top right of the OS X toolbar. However, the amber and/ or green light doesn't come on, right away - the first time - most of the time, on the adapter head itself. I usually have to unplug it and plug it back in multiple times before I get a light to come on. I have tried to clean the adapter itself, and the MagSafe port on the computer, but that seems to only help for a short amount of time, and it doesn't look real dirty, or like any pins are stuck on the adapter. I have also tried other outlets, but that doesn't seem to help, so I don't think I am getting dirty power.

Unfortunately, it *could* be the computer. And it could be the adapter.  Aside from trying Resetting the System Management Controller there's not much you can do except taking it in for testing.

  • MacBook Pro power adapter doesn't show green light when fully charged

I've had a quick search through the communities and there are a lot of posts about chargers and indicator lights, but I'm not sure I'm really satisfied about my own issue so I thought I'd ask anyway.
Basically, I bought a spare power adapter (genuine Apple 85W MagSafe2) for my new 15" Retina MacBook Pro in a store the other day, to save me lugging my main adapter to and from work all the time.
Using it for the first time made me realise that the adapter I got with my MBP behaves slightly differently re: the LED indicators. The new one from the store shows amber until the MBP is fully charged, then solid green once fully charged. This I believe is perfectly normal.
The charger I got with the MBP shows amber whilst charging, but only shows green very briefly when fully charged and then the indicator goes out completely. OSX (10.8.2) still indicates that it is connected to the power source though, and the battery doesn't drain or anything at this point - it definitely appears to be functioning as expected.
Aside from this, I can determine no real difference between the two adapters in terms of charging speed or general functionality, they both appear fine.
I just wondered if anyone else had ever seen this?
I did reset the MBP's SMC settings too, but it made no difference. I'm inclined to think there isn't an issue with the laptop itself since the new adapter's indicators work exactly as I'd expect, but then again the original adapter seems to function perfectly so I'm wondering if there's just some trivial issue with the green LEDs or something like that.

Really doesn't matter if anyone else has or has not seen something like what you have. Your original adapter is faulty in one way or another and you should take it in to Apple with your rMBP to show them what is happening and Ask Nicely for a new one that works correctly.

  • Power Adapter flashes orange light and won't power on.

I woke up this morning to find that my power adapter's light is off and it is still plugged into the surge protector.
    1. When I push the button on the bottom, I get all 4 lights saying that it is charged.
    2. When I plug the laptop with another adapter, I get a constant flashing orange light from the power adapter. Mine will flash orange several times and then go black. It's like it's trying to communicate something to me but I don't understand its language!!
    3. I have tried resetting the computer, that didn't work.
    4. I have tried powering up without the battery in the machine, that didn't work.
Any ideas out there?? I'm thinking that I need a new logic board but I also haven't backed up my info. Any assistance on either of these issues?

I found out that someone had spilt chicken soup on my laptop and it pretty much destroyed the logic board, optical drive, processor and other technical stuff.
    *heavy sigh*

  • When using my power adapter, the light is green for a two seconds and turns red.

When using the power adapter for my MacBook 2.1, the little light on the connector is green for 2 or 3 seconds and then turns red.  I bought a new adapter, but it is the same thing. It looks like the computer is charging.  What's wrong with it.

Nothing wrong. Here is what Macbook manual has to say:
When you first connect the power adapter to your computer, an indicator light on the
power adapter plug starts to glow. An amber light indicates that power is going to the
battery. A green light indicates that no power is going to the battery, which can mean
the battery is fully charged, is not installed, or has a problem. If you don’t see a light,
your plug probably isn’t seated correctly. Check for any debris and remove it. You can
monitor the battery level using the Battery status menu in the menu bar or by
checking the battery level indicator lights on the bottom of the battery (see page 74).

You should take both your MBP(Macbook Pro) and your power adapter to an Apple Genius bar or an AASP(Authorized Apple Service Provider) for a free evaluation. This is a strange occurance, and it seems that it may be a hardware malfunction.

    Hello,
My white McBook (2008 or 2009) recently stopped turning on.  When I hook up the Magsafe power adapter, the light shows green, but the computer will not turn on, or make a sound.  I've tried the re-boot option, but nothing works.  I first thought I needed a new battery because the lights at the back are all off, but shouldn't the computer turn on once the power adapter is hooked up and the light on the Magsafe adapter shows green?  I'm a computer doofus, so please be kind.  Please advise!  Thanks in advance.

  • Blinking LED on AC Power Adapter: green light/ red light, slow recharge?

Once recharge reaches about 90% the LED on the AC Power Adapter starts to blink green and red. The battery icon also flashes between "Charged" and time of remaining charge. Flashing cycle dramatically increases time to fully charge the battery, as if it gets stuck in an infinite loop and can't reach a full charge. A few days ago problem started after the most recent software update. Battery has a mark of corrosion, one small rust looking mark. Power Cycle Count is 329. Unexpected shut down (not sleep) did occur one time when battery was at low charge. BatteryUpdater.bundle is Version 1.3. Battery was calibrated also a few days ago. MacBook is not under the extended warranty. Any idea if this is the battery problem or AC power adapter, or even a glitch in the recent software update?

    Hi,
I've the same problem. Once recharge reaches about 95% the led on the Power Adapter keeps blinking.
The battery icon does the same. I also had a sudden shutdown. Battery is not damaged and cycle number is 147. I've tried downgrading BatteryUpdater.bundle from version 1.3 to 1.2, but nothing changed. Any idea about a possible cause/solution?
    Thanks,

  • Power Adapter alternatives?

Rather than paying $30 for a power adapter for a 5th G 30gb video Ipod, what other non-apple adapters would work with this?
I've seen several on Ebay, but I want to make sure they're compatible with the 30gb video Ipod.
