  • Will USA Apple Firewire power adapter cope with 240 volts?

Hi, just bought an Apple OEM firewire power adapter, see here

Anyone know if this will this work without a voltage convertor in UK & Europe?
    It's for an iPod mini.
I know one can charge by connecting to computer but it's more convenient to plug into the wall.
    Thanks for any help.

Oh yes, thankyou for clarifying my mind on that.
I also bought a syncing firewire cable from the same place while I was at it so she should just need one cable then to do both charging & syncing as long as the firewire works abroad.
I'll inspect it when it comes & if in doubt we could leave the firewire power adaptor here for when she's in US & get a USB power adapter in UK for there & Europe.
Or I could sell the firewire power adapter to keep things simple.
    Thanks a lot Chris.
In case anyone has any experience using the firewire power adapter abroad I'd be interested.
    Thanks.

  • Power Adapter - Moving from US to UK

    Hello,
I just bought a new hp Pavilion dv7-4295us  laptop  in the United States.
I live in the Republic of Ireland / UK however.
Do I need a new power adapter,  and if so can you recommend which one?
    Thanks,

No, the AC adpater will work, you just need an adapter for the wall socket to convert it to USA style.

Creative doesn't ship the uni'versal power adapter to Canada (fulfillment by Amazon.com)

Have you attempted a restore again? Sometimes a correct second try could work.
If the icon doesn't go away (after the restore) for over a minute of being connected to the charger, try the resetting your iPod again.
Also, before trying a restore again, fully re-charge your iPod (3 hours should do it), then connect it to your computer to restore.
If you are getting any error messages, or the restore process seems to have had some kind of failure, please list them and when it occurs.

  • Generic 60W power adapter

My daughter broke her AC Power adapter that came with her MacBook. Went to my local apple store and they want $79.00 plus tax for a new one. Anyone out there have any luck buying a generic brand. I'm always a little bit nervous about this. Don't want to take a chance blowing up a expensive machine. Is it worth going generic to save a few bucks?
    Please advise.
    Tnx
    Rob -

I have a friend that bought a generic one off of eBay for $20 for his Black Macbook. The adapter wire failed at the base and he put it away for a couple of weeks, then when he finally plugged it into an authentic adapter, the battery was useless with a (Zero) 0 in the charge status. Anyway, he got the new adapter and a generic battery on there, and has used it with no issues. He says the Macbook actually runs longer now. I looked at it with a lot of suspicion at first. I noticed that the Amber/Green LED on the tip actually functions exactly the same too. Overall, I think it was a great deal. He got both parts for less than an authentic adapter. I would trust it. Additionally, he even got a 1 year warranty on both parts. Use a USA seller like he did even though the parts are made in China like the authentic ones.

  • Power Converter USA to Ireland

I purchased plug adapters for outlets for my new macbook pro but I was wondering if I needed to get a power converter that will convert 110V USA power to 240 volt Europe (Ireland) power. Or does the macbook pro have these capabilities? I don't want to plug in my new computer and end up frying it!!

The MBP's power adapter runs on 100-240 V and 50/60 Hz. You just need the adapter so the flat North American prongs fit into the outlets in overseas.

  • Need new power adapter for Qosmio F50

    Hello
I am in need of buying new power adapter for my Qosmio F50 126. The reason being if I try to run more demanding application on my computer, the entire computer just crashes, shuts down. I need to buy a new adapter before my entire computers crashes result in destroying my HDD. I am not sure if my battery are died or the power adapter fails to charge them up.
The picture of underside of my power adapter is shown below.

What I would like to know if the following two adapters are the same and would work with my model. I ask this because the price difference between the two units is significant., 20 USD. Also, I will be importing it from the USA using an agent here. Therefore I need to get it right on the first try.
I'm curious about the connecter it has on the end. I wonder if its same as the one which came with the notebook. I believe it wont be an issue with it clearly says it supports my model, Qosmio F50 126
Another find which I believe is the best and most compatiable.
This one will sure work but the price is much higher than the one mentioned above

    Hi
You need an AC adaptor which supports *19V and 6.32A*
The Ampere value might be a little bit different. This should not be a big problem but you have to ensure the Ampere value isnt too low. The notebook needs enough power to run properly and to charge the battery.
However, the Volt value (19V) cannot be different. _It has to be *19V_*
The original AC adaptor has the part number: *PA3290E-3AC3*
I recommend you to purchase the AC adaptor recommended by Toshiba.

  • European power adapter interface?

I came really close to being offline on a trip back from Europe last week because I ended up without a European AC adapter to plug into.  It would seem to me that the ideal solution for the adapter issue is to design a European adapter (two wide-spaced conductor 'posts') that fit onto the power adapter the same way that the USA module does.  Perhaps this is already in existance and if so, how can I get one?  If it isn't, it needs to be!
    Thanks,
    Tom

AC prong adapters are widely available.

  • Voltage input to power adapter

I'm ordering a Lenovo laptop (X200s) to Denmark from the USA and my question is if I can use the supplied power adapter. The voltage in the power outlets in Denmark is 230V. And if the adapter can handle 230V will the supplied cord from wall outlet to adapter fit in the wall outlet or will I need to replace the cord?
Thanks for reading. Hope you can answer my questing.
    Allan Rasmussen

Usually the input voltage of the power adapter ranges from 100V to 240V.
If the shape of the plug does fit the wall outlet you may use an adapter or simply replace the existing plug with one that fits the wall outlet, make sure the E, N and L wires are connected correctly.

  • Power adapter issue! Please help!

Can someone please tell me where can i find schematic of connector (connector from power supply to Powerbook)! My power adapter is working fine, but the connector is broken, so i just want to replace it, and i don`t know pin assignment! In the connector i have found small electronic board on which are contacts labeled with R, T, S and G. Can someone tell me how to fix this problem! Thanks
    Powerbook G4 15"

I would like to experience some of apple's generosity! I just shelled out 400$ for the world wide apple care plan, only to find out it doesnt really cover me. To get my adapter replaced under this plan, I have to turn in my old adapter and wait 'several weeks' for the new one to arrive, in the meantime I have 1 minute left on my battery and a pile of work to finish.
Interesting to note that the apple store here in Germany has the power adapters in stock and are more than willing to sell me one, only apple wont let them replace my adapter on the spot. Outside the USA, it is optional for each shop to honor tha apple care agreement, according to the Apple phone representative - gee wish they would put that in their sales pitch. Needless to say all the shops I have contacted 'opt out' and the only service center in the city, said I need to wait 'several weeks' for a new one! The new adapter is 100$ US , talk about a rip off, and there is nothing to do except pay.
Over 300 complaints have been registered under this product in the Buy section of the website. Mine started sparking and actually started to burn my sheets - I was woken up by the odour.
I have lodged a complaint with at: https://www.cpsc.gov/incident.html (part of the recalls.gov website) I have also written to consumer reports and other agencies as well. I urge others to do the same, if not Apple will continue to sell this product.
I am upset over the adapter, over the fraudulant and shady wording of their 'worldwide' applecare plan - what person travelling for business can wait several weeks for a new part? - for the amount of money I have to dish out on a monopolised product, where I have no choices or alternatives. I had an apple laptop back in the 90s, and the power adapter gave out in the exact same place - I think that apple engineers these things to break after a set time, and knowing they are laptops, people do not have the time to wait for a new one so dish out the 80$

  • Could I have got a new power adapter for free?

My power adapter for my mac stopped working recently and as far as I know I didn't cause any damage to it myself.
I read the following on the apple website:
    Additional Information
Whether your product is in or out of warranty, you can take your adapter to an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Retail Store for evaluation and replacement if necessary. Pending the results of evaluation, you may or may not be eligible for a replacement adapter free of charge. Signs of accidental damage would negate any coverage. Be sure to bring in the computer used with the adapter; it is required to process potential adapter replacements.
Which seems to suggest that even out of warrenty, if the charger has broken of it's own accord you can still get a free replacement?
I took my adapter and mac to the shop, they said there were no signs of accidental damage but said I still have to pay for it. I referred to this statement from the website but they were very dismissive and kept saying it was out of warrenty. Perhaps i'm reading the statement wrongly.
Just wondered if anyone could clarify :-)

As you indicated, it depends on the results of the evaluation.
Apple takes responsibility when design faults cause certain failures, especially when it represents a safety concern. There have been a small number of cases where failure met certain characteristics that Apple deemed that it should not have happened, regardless of age or use.
I am reluctant to indicated the specificity of some of these issues, because for many reasons Apple would not want us speculating on the subject. Suffice it to say your product failure may not have met any particular characteristics associated with failures deemed to have extended coverage.
If your product failed for an unknown reason, or apparently a failure stemming from age or normal life expectancy use, and it was after the normal expiry of warranty, then no further consideration was given. You need to buy and pay for a new one, unless you yourself, can provide extenuating circumstances to consider.
