Power adaptor question

Hello, I need to know is the Intel based Mac mini power adaptor (110w) is compatible to the G4 based Mac mini?
Thanks for any help
James

When I was looking for an extra power adapter for an Intel Mini, I found many people were selling 85W adapters, meant for the G4 Mini, for use with the Intel version. I made sure I got a 110W version, which is working fine. I'm not of an electrician to know what would happen using a 110W adapter on a computer that's looking for only 85W, but to me it's not a risk worth taking.
My 2 cents,

  • MacBook Pro Hard-Drive and MagSafe Power Adaptor

I have just purchased a 15.4" MacBook Pro (Model number A1150) from eBay. The system was sold as being for spares or repair and because I'm up for a challenge and desperate to break away from my ties to Windows and move into the Mac world I thought I try the 'repair' route.
The system I have is model number A1150.  It dates from early 2006 and has a 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo processor.  Having opened the case up I found there is no hard drive installed so I need to purchase a new one.  I know that the system shipped with an 80Gb SATA hard drive but I don’t have any more detailed information than that.  Is anybody able to advise me what make, model and full specification of hard-drive I need to purchase to help bring this machine back to life?
In addition, the system did not have a MagSafe power adaptor so I need to purchase a new one.  The technical specifications show that I need to get hold of an 85w MagSafe adaptor, but I believe there are different types of adaptor available now.  Could somebody let me know what type of adaptor I need?
Thanks in advance – I’m sure I’ll have some more questions as I hit new obstacles!

  • Sold a faulty power adaptor which set fire to the plug socket.

I recently purchased a power adaptor (not the USB cable) in order to charge my iPod. This purchase, admittedly was from Amazon, however, the seller claimed to be an authorised seller and that the product was genuine. When the item arrived, it was much lighter than the authentic power adaptor I had previously, and the USB insert was upside down. After unsuccessfully attempting to charge my iPod using the product, the product began to hiss and caught light, slightly. The seller's feedback profile was not available when I went to purchase.
I am writing this, as I am very aware that many people are fooled into the same dealings, and I hope to contribute to Apple by helping them to atleast reduce this counterfeit.

    Hello
Just one question: Was the store an authorized service provider?
I mean if the socket might have been faulty from production it should be definitively covered by warranty. I dont know what parts must be replaced but I also think that the complete mainboard must be replaced because normally the socket is soldered on the mainboard.
So go to the nearest authorized service provider that you can find on the Toshiba website and explain the situation. The technicians can check this and tell you if its covered by warranty or not.

  • Power adapter questions

    Hi,
I have a "late 2004" 12" G4 ibook and a FW800 15" G4 Powerbook and one single power adapter left (one has stopped working). This is a A1021 65W power adapter. The first question is:
    - can I use this power adapter for both laptop?
I have tried to purchase a second A1021 65W power adapter on ebay. So far I have purchased 2, These are , or they appear to be, genuine Apple A1021, 65W; but the problem is that the connectors, the one with the LED ring, will not fit in either of my laptops. This is the case for both power adapters, bought from different people. I am confused, because the adapter looks a genuine apple A1021, but the connector of mine fits perfectly in both laptop, while the connectors of these 2 don't. I have tried to spot the difference but the 2 connectors really look the same.
Has anyone any knowledge or experience with this type of problems?

    Hi Bendetto,
You can use the 65W power adaptor with both the iBook and the Powerbook.
As long as the adaptor is white, it should fit into the Powerbook or the iBooks you specify. You may find the outer shield of the power adaptor is slightly deformed. Try to make it fit, using gentle force while rotating it. Once you make it fit, it will be fine for the future.

  • Have a C310a that will not start. Have +32VDC from Ac power adaptor, using on a Mac.

Have a PhotoSmart Premium e-All-in-One PrinterC310a, it will not turn on. We have been using it on an iMac and a MacBook, both OS X 10.6.7. Have been thru the HP resetting of the power adaptor etc, so I checked at the printer plug and had +32VDC, which is the correct input voltage. The printer still will not start, what am I missing?

Hey zzzzip! I know its a basic question, but have you tried using a different outlet that you know works? Here is the document on troubleshooting power issues:

  • Chromebook power adaptor

I'm one of the lucky early adopters who got a suspect power adaptor with an HP11 Ch romebook.
I've been asked to return it, and onscreen the instructions ask me to choose which type it is.
Unfortunately not only is the text on the picture of the power adaptor far too small and dark for my ageing eyes to read, but so is the text on my own power adaptor and the serial number on the bottom of the computer!.  And I don't have a magnifying glass, let alone a microscope!
I think I might have found the right computer serial number (It accepted the number I typed in, but I'm not sure I read it right).
    My questions:
1: Bearing in mind I've at least selected the right country (UK), will it make much difference to me if I chose the wrong one?
2: Is there any way of writing to HP/Google directly about this problem?  I can't see an email address or web form.
3:  (A more general question Why oh why is all information on electronic equipment SO **bleep** SMALL?  Is there a reason for making it illegible to any eyes beyond teenage years and without a magnifying glass?  For reference, I am shortsighted but don't need specs to type on the Chromebook.
    Thanks.

Since you must get the information from the label on the power adapter I suggest asking for assistance from a family member or friend. Otherwise you will have to find or purchase a magnifying glass so you can read the fine print.

  • Firewire, can I use it to charge with power adaptor?

Ok so I have the new 30GB iPod Video, and I only have USB1.1 ports, yes it *****, yes it'll take all night for me to load all my songs on it. Well what can you do!
My Question is can I use firewire with a power adaptor to charge it away from my computer or do I need to buy a USB power adaptor?
Any advice would be most appreciated
    John

Yes, you can use the firewire power adapter to charge the iPod.

  • Using power adaptor charger while playing iPod

I have a charger for my iPod Mini. I think it's called a "USB-based power adaptor." When I got it about a year ago it cost about $20. Uses a cable for the iPod into it and then plugs into a standard outlet.
I am also able to run my iPod through one of my more high-end stereo systems. A great advantage, particularly for "home recording," to listen and get full stereo sound.
    The question is:
Can I use the charger adaptor while the iPod is playing? Either through the stereo system or using the iPod just by itself?
It would seem that should be no problem. Wouldn't it be the same principle as using an iPod "dock?"
If I can do this, the nice thing would be that I could keep my iPod fully charged while playing. Either through the stereo system or playing just the iPod alone.
Could any harm be done by doing this?
    Thanks in advance.

In theory, it shouldn't do any harm. The reason I added the qualifier is that its possible that a non-Apple charger could in some way, not be quite up to spec and could behave oddly. Of course, Apple chargers can go bad, too. iPods will stop accepting a charger once they are fully charged. I have used chargers while my iPod has been connected to speakers with no difficulty and no harm to the iPod.

  • Power adaptor warranty

Is there any sort of warranty on the power adaptors? I am on my second power adaptor and it has stopped working after about 7 months. I'm hoping there is a one year warranty on it, since $70 is an outrageous price for an adaptor that won't even last a year. I can't find any of the documentation that came with the adaptor.

when my iBooks power adapter cable broke after about 11 months of use (frayed by the connector and eventually broke in two), I called up applecare, and they replaced it no questions asked. Of course 7 months later when my logicboard died, they offered no help (out of warranty), so now I have a working power adapter, but an ibook that won't boot.
I am happy to say though that the powercord for the macbooks are thicker, and will hopefully hold up more to the bending pressure than the ibooks one did.

  • Does Macbook pro's power adaptor work on Macbook also?

I have a question as to whether the power adaptor of the Macbook Pro is the same as or is compatible with the Macbook. Thank you!

They are not the same. You can use the AC adapter from a MBP on a MB but not the reverse. The adapter for a MB is not rated for as much power as the MBP requires.

  • Replacemant adaptor question.

    Hi again,
The power adaptor cable for my G4 12" Powerbook is starting to break at the connector that plugs into the computer. The same connector is also quite hot so I know there is some spliting under the plastic. My question is have there been any issues with those ebay replacement adaptors. This is the third adaptor I've bought from Apple and I'm kind of tired of dropping that $80 every year.
    Cheers
    Iain

Hi BGreg, Thanks for your response. I am familiar with OWC. Why I didn't remember them in the first place escapes me. Thanks again.

  • Unplug power adaptor = laptop shuts down

My computer usually is in sleep mode and plugged in.
Lately when I go to use it, unplug the power cord and it immediately shuts down.
It won't turn back on unless I plug the power adaptor cord back in.
Perhaps related (?) is that the time/date function seems to act up. It says it's set to a pre-2001 date, which it is until the system fully lines up and it auto-updates to the correct date.
Any idea why my laptop wants to be a deskop and live plugged in only?

I'm having much the same problems as were described here. Here's what's going on:
The PB in question: 15" 1.25GHz, about 3.5 years old (just out of AppleCare!). I'm running a relatively new battery, which the myBattery utility says is 100% charged at 90% of capacity. It's running 10.4.9 as of two days ago. I've reset the PRAM (cmd-opt-P-R) and the power manager (shift-ctrl-opt-power).
    What happens:
    * When the PB is plugged in and running, it will hard crash -- simply stop working -- if I remove the power cord.
    * If I try to boot it running only on the (fully-charged) battery, I hear the startup chime, and then the boot process stops. Sometimes it doesn't even make it all the way through the startup chime.
    * When I restart with it plugged in, I get the warning dialog saying that my system clock is set to Jan 1, 1990 (or whatever that magic date is), and that I should reset the clock before weird things happen.
    * If it's plugged in, I can sleep it, pull the power cord, wait a while, plug the power cord back in, and wake it successfully.
The PB is certainly old enough to make the PRAM battery a little suspect. This just began to happen today, and I had pulled the power cord at least once while it was running since doing the 10.4.9 update, so I probably shouldn't be paranoid about the update.
Anyway: any thoughts / advice before I head for the local Genius Bar?

  • New iMac - built in power adaptor?

Does anybody know if the new iMac has a built in power adaptor or does the power lead come with a small box at the end of it, like on a laptop? Sounds like a random question, but I think the new iMac is almost like a "easily portable desktop" with its slim keyboard.

The new iMacs, like the previous Intel-based iMacs, have a built-in power supply that is self-adapting 100-240V AC. All that you need is the proper power cord for the elecrical outlet configuration for the country you visit or an Int'l plug adapter kit.
For traveling, I use the iLugger.

  • Vision+ with Power adaptors on Infinity 2

I have the set up above (vision + box with vison essentials. The link is via power adaptors from the hub. I have the BT infinity 2 broadband package.
Do I need to change anything in order to get BT Sport?
Am I right in thinking that I need a cable connection??
    Thanks

That depends on the speed at the Powerline adapters. Try plugging in a laptop or computer via Ethernet to the powerline adapter at BT Vision end. Run a speed test. They don't support the non use of cables but my multicast channels including HD are perfect through the adapters with a speed of 30mbs
