Power Book doesn't receive airport nor ethernet signal

OK, so I recently did an erase and install on my powerbook g4 from the original start-up disk. Then, I immediately updated to OSX 10.4.3 from my Tiger DVD. Now, my laptop won't pick up a signal from the airport. Internet Connect status says "not associated with any network, Status not available". Airport Admin Utility picks up nothing. Network Preferences says "airport is turned on but is not connected to a network" Network Setup Assistant detects nothing. I tried plugging the ethernet in directly, the pc link light goes off, and nothing. All this and my wife's macbook's connection is just fine through airport and ethernet. I must be missing something. Any suggetions?

Just a thought, if you are trying to use Tiger from your wifes Macbook and not a Full retail Version of Tiger thats your problem. Apple software that ships with there computers is machine specific. and will not interchange.
Be sure you go to system prefernces and then network and make sure you have the correct method you are using, choosen for your connection, and it has the little green dot, and drag it to the top of the list.
If it is a full retail version go to your apple and then choose Software Update and download them.
Cheers Don

  • My mac book air doesn't have iPhoto nor imovies

hi my mac book doesn't have iphoto nor imovies

    reinstall from the original source
    Could be
1 - the restore disks that came with the computer - if it came with CDs and you do not know where they are then contact Apple to see if they can be replaced
    or
2 - the iLife DVD that you purchased
    or
3 - the app store - log in under the Apple id used to purchase the software or to set up the computer - look under purchases - you might have to unhide or accept the Application first

  • My external monitor works but I can't get my screen to work on my power book anymore

Can not get my screen on power book G4 to work but my external monitor works fine. Did I press something and turn it off?

The both screens always worked fine but now the power book doesn't show anything on the screen.  I didn't drop it or even move it.  Where is the brightness button?  Could I have hit it by mistake?
Thanks so much for your help.
F2 is the up-brightness button, F1 is the down-brightness button, usually, on PowerBooks.  If for some reason the F1 button got held down for a couple of seconds, the display would go completely dark.
That being said, if the backlight does not come up (easily determined by seeing if the Apple outline on the cover is lit up) then the most likely suspect would be the inverter board, or the connection to the inverter board.  If this is a Titanium PG G4, the inverter board is easy and relatively inexpensive to replace.  For the Aluminum models, I don't know if that is quite so true.

  • Ethernet source ( business class) : Power book-imac wireless problem.

I need to set up my system as follows . Imac takes the ethernet feed and over airport and connects to my power book.
Imac one year old. Powerbook this week.
I had this working and then lost it twice. I want to maintain security , firewall and stealth switched on.
What did was set up airport on the imac to broadcast , having chosen a network name.WEP password established.
This I choose on the power book. Wrote in the machine pw and the wep and I was running just fine.
After power down power up , I went back and can't find the wireless signal.
I believe this might be the firewall switch , after messing with that I lost my connection. I could swear that I was working with stealth on just fine.
    Any help. Thanks.

Hi Lensmith & welcome to the forums.
Turn the firewall off and use the network/wireless configuration for your security. Don't button things down so tight you lock yourself out

  • Why won't my Power Book connect to the internet via Airport (AEBS) ?

Since getting a new Broadband provider and ADSL modem (before I had cable modem which worked perfectly) which is cabled up to my EMAC (with Airport card) I cannot connect my Power Book to the internet ? I have reconfigured and hopefully set the preferences correctly on both computers i.e. Personal Web sharing- On, Internet sharing -On etc.
I can send files between the two computers and they connect to my network fine, but the Power Book cannot get the internet. Can anyone please help ?

Personal Web Sharing is not necessary.
I believe VickyMC is using her eMac to share the Internet account to her PowerBook. She has Personal Web Sharing enabled so that the ports are opened to allow access through the eMac to the Internet.

  • Why wont"t my 15 inch Power Book not connect to internet via airport

I have a 15 inch titanium power book and I recently installed an airport card. The computer recognizes it but I still can't get it to connect to the airport network. My new 17 inch powerbook is on the network and works just fine.
The 15 inch pb does not recognize the network.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hey Tony
    the first thing is
What kind of network do you want to connect with?
I mean do you use an airport station?
and you could try something like "iStumbler" to find a network
sometimes you have to use the right IP and Subnet mask
you should copy that from your 17" PB
or maybe the network router is using a "secret" network
so you have to "allow" your MAC-adress and/or your IP to connect to the network...
or maybe you did not pluged in the antenna ..?
I hope this could help you

  • My Power Book G4 and iPhone Does Not Remember My Airport Express

    Hello everyone,
I have an iPhone 2G(V.3.0) and Power Book G4(V.10.5.8), and neither of these two devices will see or remember my Airport Express. Each time either device wakes from sleeping, I have to manually log in. This means I have to select join a network (because it is not in the drop down list), then enter my network and password every time; this is annoying. If someone can help me solve this mystery I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thank you in advance,
    Christendom

Christendom, Welcome to the discussion area!
Do you have your AirPort Express (AX) configured to create a "hidden" network? If so, disable that option.

  • Airport Dual Ethernet connecting to DSL.

My normal system is a Windows XP PC connected to 2wire dsl router from SBC. My wife has an iBook(the white one)that we are trying to get connected to the internet using an Airport Dual ethernet. THe iBook has a wireless card installed and before I moved all I did was plug the airport into the DSL router and all was well. Now what is happening is that as soon as I plug the airport into the router it I lose my PC internet connection, even more frustrating is that I still can't access the interent via the iBook.
I am totally unfamiliar with the Mac OS so this just adds to my frustration. Are there any resources/guidance/books that would help a new wireless Mac user on configuring the airport to connect to the same router as a windows PC without screwing it all up?
    Any help would be awesome.

Hello, I'm new to Mac's as well, but I hope I can help narrow down the source of the problem a little.
You said "and before I moved all I did was". I take that to mean you moved from one home to another. Does that mean that you also have a new DSL service provider (which means they provided you with the DSL router you are using. A couple things to try to semi isolate the problem, or at least try to narrow it down to one device having issues.
Try to connect to the internet with each computer individually using the DSL router, one at a time. Do they both work that way?
Try connecting the airport only, then connecting to the internet with each computer individually (the other should be powered down so it doesn't try to connect when wireless becomes available {hopefully}). Do they work this way?
If they work, or one does but not the other you have provided yourself wirh a wealth of information to offer the experts (no that's not me), I'm afraid I won't be much help beyond this. The reason for this method is that you may discover that something has happened to your system(s) (hopefully not) during your move(?), or your service provider (new) may have provided you with a faulty router (just a couple of possibilities).
Another thing, have you installed any new software, or updates recently, like just before the connection stopped working.
    Hope this helps.

  • Power Mac G3 Pismo with Airport wireless card in Mac OS X 10.4 won't connect to wireless network  with  newest Airport Extreme Base Station set at WPA Personal/WPA 2 Personal encryption.

My Power Book G3 Pismo with an Airport wireless card  running Mac OS X 10.4.11 will not connect to my new Airport
Extreme Base Station using WPA Personal/WPA 2 Person encryption.  The Airport firmware is version 9.52.  From
posts I've read online at different places indicates the Airport card should support the WPA encryption.  Perhaps the problem
is the Base Station is using a combination setting and the fault is in the base station?
    Thanks for any suggestions

Perhaps an inexpensive usb wireless adapter would work as well?
This is probably the simplest way to get the G3 connected to the wireless network.
I'll have to read up on getting an express and using it as a wireless bridge as I am unfamiliar with the concept.
The new AirPort Extreme is broadcasting a wireless signal.
A new AirPort Express could be located close to the G3. The Express will pick up the wireless signal from the AirPort Extreme, then provide an Ethernet connection to the G3 though a short Ethernet cable.
This can work very well......IF.....you keep the G3 at a fixed location, since it will always be connected to the AriPort Express using an Ethernet cable.
I do have an old Linksys Wireless G router.  I wonder if that would work?
In theory, yes. But it would have to use much older WEP "security", which is easily cracked in minutes using free tools available on the Internet. So, anyone who really wanted to get on the network could do so. It's an option, but not a very good one.

  • Airport Express Ethernet Bridging

I have a Mac mini connected to my flat panel TV and I used to use a Graphite base station to connect to it from my iBook G4, naturally the iBook can see the mini but not vice versa (**** Apple firmware).
I have an Airport Express that I stopped using as a print server and wanted to hook it up the same way I had the Graphite Base Station, HOWEVER, it doesn't work. It SAYS in the Airport Admin Utility that Airport to Ethernet bridging is supposed to be in effect, BUT, it doesn't work the way the Graphite Base Station does. Is this another example of Apple creating an artificial limitation in a product, or will this work?
    iBook G4 1.33   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Mid-2005 Model

I have tried this and it does work. You can do this manually from the station you want to use as the relay, but it is a royal pain. Let Airport Admin do the work; set up the relay from the main base station.
To enable bridging mode on the express (ie: the express is connected to a machine with ethernet and you want to then connect the express to the main base so the machine has internet access)
Install your main and remote base stations and power them up (easiest if the remote is reset to factory state)
Launch Airport Admin Utility and connect to the main base station for your network.
On the "WDS" tab, enable the station as a WDS main base station and allow wireless clients.
Click the "+" button to add a remote base station and select your airport express. Leave checked, or check the "Auto configure..." box.
    Click "OK" then "Update"
Read and enter the requested information on the drawer that appears; you are setting information for the remote/bridging station.
Wait for the stations to restart and build the network (about 1-2 minutes).

  • Power book G5 flashing ? mark with file icon !

My power book G5 is showing a flashing ? mark in the middle of a file icon, it doesn't want to respond to any disk's or function keys, please help.

I might add, here is an image of the machines known as the PowerMac G5:
A very similar Mac which is not a G5, is called a Mac Pro:
Note the extra drive bay on top for the Mac Pros.
iMacs came in both G5 and Intel models and are both white in appearance. To tell the difference between those two, you need to read the EMC model on the foot, and use Apple's article here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1463?viewlocale=en_US
Powerbooks and iBooks are both clearly indicated what machine processor they are under the screen. If your 4 or 3 key is broke, feel free to use Roman numerals:
    III is 3
    IV is 4
It is very important you state which Mac model you have, so we can tell you what article can better identify your Mac so we can troubleshoot your problem further.

  • UPGARDING PROBLEMS!!! NO CD Drive on a Power Book Fire Wire

    First Of All Hello Everyone:
Here's my problem, a friend of mine ask me for help with he's power book Fire-wire the machine has (768 MB on RAM and 15 GB on HD),To upgrade his OS 9.2 to OS X, but (Here's the real problem) it has no cd or dvd drive, (Actually no cd drive at all), so i can't upgrade it to OSX. I Have tried with an external Iomega CD Drive (Predator Model) but it tells me it can't startup with an external cd drive, or simply doesn't recognize the external device when tried to startup the computer with the "C" key held down.
(It recognize the external cd when it's already stated up in OS 9.2)

    Ikaro,
You cannot successfully drag-copy OSX like the 'Classic' OS.
If you could beg/borrow a FW CD-RW, you can boot the OSX CD and install via the burner.
Boot to the FW CD-RW in this manner: Load the OSX CD in the burner, then start up or restart while pressing the 'option' key, then select the OSX CD in the Startup Manager window.
Since you have a 10GB FW HD, you could connect it to another Mac (the host) that has FireWire ports and install OSX on the FW HD. The host should be able to start up to the new install on the FW HD so it can restart to the FW HD and finish up the install. If the host computer cannot boot to the FW HD, just let it restart to the internal HD, copy over CCC (see below), then properly unmount the FW HD. I believe you still should be able to boot the Pismo to the FW HD although I cannot be positive.
Now just connect the FW HD to your Powerbook (FireWire) a.k.a. Pismo, boot to the HD, and use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone a bootable copy to the Pismo's internal HD.
You will first have to download Carbon Copy Cloner from VersionTracker and place it on the host's HD. After finishing installing OSX on the FW HD, drag-copy CCC onto the FW HD. When preparing to CCC to the Pismo's internal HD, make sure you select "make bootable" in CCC's preferences.

  • Airport Express - Ethernet jack

    Hi
Does anyone know if the airport express' ethernet port outputs to devices as well as receives.
Ideally I need to convert my current 802.11n time capsule signal back to a ethernet device (a AV component) that does not have wifi capability.
Is this possible? Could I connect my airport express near the device and connect them up using ethernet - would this connect my device (via ethernet) to my internet signal?
    Thanks

If you have the 802.11g AirPort Express (AX), you will need to configure the AX and Time Capsule to wirelessly connect using WDS. In this mode the AX's Ethernet port will be active.
If you have the brand new 802.11n AX you can either use the new 802.11n "extend network" feature OR WDS to wirelessly connect the two.
