Power book uses?

im looking to by an apple computer and use it for film editing. i was going to purchase a G5 but now im thinking of getting a power book G4, im wondering if it is a good choice for running final cut studio, and if i will be able to hook my sony camcorder up to the usb port and capture film in Final Cut

If you are serious about video editing and want to be portable then I would seriously consider the MacBook Pro over a PowerBook. Apple's Final Cut Studio is now available as a universal binary so will perform substantially better with Intel processors than the G4.
As for your Sony camcorder, you won't be able to connect to to USB for film capture although as long as it is a MiniDV camcorder you will be able to use FireWire to capture video.

  • Strange feeling in my hand when using the power-book

I have noticed I get an odd sensation in my right hand when using my 17" powerbook, say after about half an hours use. Is there some sort of electrical/magnetic field which could be causing this? I have also noticed it in my legs when I had the power-book resting on my legs. I now only use my powerbook with a seperate keyboard & mouse so I do not get the strange slightly warm ache in my right hand. Anyone else notice anything like this? Any ideas what it is? It is not something from repetitive typing etc because it does not occur when I am using the seperate keyboard.

I have frequently noticed that if I run my fingers over the case, even when the powerbook is closed, I get this funny sort vibration in my fingertips. Whenever it happens, I do it several times to try to figure out what it is. So far, I don't have a clue. I thought it might be the disk drive, but I don't think that any more for some reason.

I am using ical but it only show up on my power book.  Nothing shows upon either my or my wife's iPhone.  We are syncing with iCloud.  This is VERY VERY frustrating!!!

Do changes you make in iCloud on your Mac turn up in the calendar at icloud.com? Are the iPhones running iOS5. and if so is iCloud correctly set up there? -

  • AT commands for 17" Power Book G4 internal modem.

    1. How does one issue AT commants to the internal modem in a 17" Power Mac G4?
    2. Are they the "standard" AT commands promulgated by Ma Bell? If not could you point me to a list of AT commands used by the Power Book G4 internal modem?
    3. Thanks!

You can modify the modem script you use to send additional AT commands to the modem. The Apple modem uses the basic Motorola command set. You can find the manual here.

  • Power book G5 flashing ? mark with file icon !

My power book G5 is showing a flashing ? mark in the middle of a file icon, it doesn't want to respond to any disk's or function keys, please help.

I might add, here is an image of the machines known as the PowerMac G5:
A very similar Mac which is not a G5, is called a Mac Pro:
Note the extra drive bay on top for the Mac Pros.
iMacs came in both G5 and Intel models and are both white in appearance. To tell the difference between those two, you need to read the EMC model on the foot, and use Apple's article here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1463?viewlocale=en_US
Powerbooks and iBooks are both clearly indicated what machine processor they are under the screen. If your 4 or 3 key is broke, feel free to use Roman numerals:
    III is 3
    IV is 4
It is very important you state which Mac model you have, so we can tell you what article can better identify your Mac so we can troubleshoot your problem further.

  • UPGARDING PROBLEMS!!! NO CD Drive on a Power Book Fire Wire

    First Of All Hello Everyone:
Here's my problem, a friend of mine ask me for help with he's power book Fire-wire the machine has (768 MB on RAM and 15 GB on HD),To upgrade his OS 9.2 to OS X, but (Here's the real problem) it has no cd or dvd drive, (Actually no cd drive at all), so i can't upgrade it to OSX. I Have tried with an external Iomega CD Drive (Predator Model) but it tells me it can't startup with an external cd drive, or simply doesn't recognize the external device when tried to startup the computer with the "C" key held down.
(It recognize the external cd when it's already stated up in OS 9.2)

    Ikaro,
You cannot successfully drag-copy OSX like the 'Classic' OS.
If you could beg/borrow a FW CD-RW, you can boot the OSX CD and install via the burner.
Boot to the FW CD-RW in this manner: Load the OSX CD in the burner, then start up or restart while pressing the 'option' key, then select the OSX CD in the Startup Manager window.
Since you have a 10GB FW HD, you could connect it to another Mac (the host) that has FireWire ports and install OSX on the FW HD. The host should be able to start up to the new install on the FW HD so it can restart to the FW HD and finish up the install. If the host computer cannot boot to the FW HD, just let it restart to the internal HD, copy over CCC (see below), then properly unmount the FW HD. I believe you still should be able to boot the Pismo to the FW HD although I cannot be positive.
Now just connect the FW HD to your Powerbook (FireWire) a.k.a. Pismo, boot to the HD, and use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone a bootable copy to the Pismo's internal HD.
You will first have to download Carbon Copy Cloner from VersionTracker and place it on the host's HD. After finishing installing OSX on the FW HD, drag-copy CCC onto the FW HD. When preparing to CCC to the Pismo's internal HD, make sure you select "make bootable" in CCC's preferences.

  • Mail hangs on my Power Book G4

    Hi there,
Previously I have been able to access my mail from both my G5 and my Power Book. Now for no reason (that I can figure out) all my mail boxes are empty and Mail just hangs on my laptop. No problem with G5 so mail account is good. Also can get mail from .Mac via laptop, soooooo?
Anyone out there can help me?
    regards, Alec

    Hi Alec.
I’m confused. First you say “Mail just hangs on my laptop”, then you say “can get mail from .Mac via laptop”. Could you please clarify this? Does the later refer to accessing your .Mac account on the web or what?
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.
Finally, try launching Mail under the following conditions (you may need to force quit it first if it’s running) and post back with your observations:
    1. Holding the Shift key down until the main window appears.
    2. With no Internet connection.

  • Power book G5 flashing ? mark !

my power book G5 is doing nothing but flashing a ? mark on the screen, it won't display anything, help please.

OK, first - do you mean a PowerMac G5 (a large tower), or some kind of PowerBook (there's no PowerBook G5)? What version of Mac OS X do you have installed? Add the correct info to your profile using the link to the right, and it'll help us answer your question.
Generally, the symptom you're describing means that the computer can't find a working system - so your hard drive may have problems, or your system files have become corrupt. One thing you could try is to use your original Mac install disks to run diagnostics or reinstall the system, but give us your correct Mac info first so we can help narrow it down.

  • Learning about Bold 9000 and Mac Power Book

I bought a BB Bold 9000 in Panama with instructions in Spanish.  I am now trying to use it in the US (although I will soon be back in Panama).  I would like to make more use of the E-mail features in combination with my Power Book and to move pictures from the BB to the Power Book.  Right now I am stymied by the instructions that I am getting from BB (both on the device and on this web site).
Can anyone suggest how to synch my two puzzling non-communicating devices?  I have not received any e-mails on the BB since Christmas.
    Thanks (gracias)

I have purchased a new Mac power book 10.9.2.  I cannot open adobe illustrator CS4 and get the error message 150:30.  Can you help?

    You are welcome, Sharon.
You should be aware that the newest version, CC, is only available as a subscription.
CS6 can be purchased at Adobe, or second hand, see below.
Older versions such as CS5 can only be bought second hand, with a licence transfer through Adobe, requiring that the licence has not been used as a basis for an upgrade.

  • Importing Palm IIIxe Contact List from G3 Power Book

Any hints on how to export my large Palm IIIxe Contacts List from my old G3 Power Book into my Entourage Address Book in my Mac Mini Os 10.45 ?
    Weedie

    Greetings,
I suggest that you use Palm Desktop to get the contacts form the IIIxe, then export them as vcard or other format for import into Entourage. You can also drag and drop between Palm Desktop and Entourage.
