Power Book will NOT start up

I charged my battery all night to be ready for a full day of presentations on the road. In the morning I used the PB for about 5 mins and then Shut Down. I didnt want to put it in Sleep bcos it sometimes still drains te battery even in sleep mode.
Got to my meeting and tried to switch on the PB and nothing happened. Its been 30 hrs since and nothing has happened. The PB is still lifeless.
When I insert the power cable the green light comes on, and my battery still reads 5 stars.
I've read through the forums and I've also tried resetting the PMU (several times)
If there's someone out there tat can help please do so fast.
Thx.

Funny thing but it sounds like your Powerbutton isnt plugged into the logic board. I had this with a iBook G4. i had to open the case the i just fastened all the screws and tightened all the connections. I dont have problems anymore.

    Welcome to the forum!
Let's try this: remove the battery, hard and media drives. Unplug the AC adapter. Press the "power" button 10 times in a row, holding it down for 10 seconds each time and 30 seconds the last time around.
Plug the AC adapter back in and try to power on.
Good luck and let us know.
    Cheers,

  • Power mac will not start

my brother just bought the new 27inch imac and was going to migrate from his power mac. his power mac is now dead. it will not start at all. any ideas

I decided to get a hard drive enclosure. I chose the Mercury Elite Pro...highly recommended in my Mac magazines.
The ones from OWC are easy to put drives in, even for a beginner. Easy to understand instructions and they back up their merchandise 100%, no questions asked. Now if a drive goes bad, I can put a new one in the enclosure in minutes (or put a bigger one in). Mine works great!
But make sure you get an enclosure that uses the PowerMac drive. Since you did not tell us what model he has we can not advise as to which one he needs.
Once the Migration is over, he can reformat the drive to GUID (for Intel) and use it as a backup drive....always needed! DALE

Suddenly my mac book pro will not turn off.  first it started with the computer cutting off rather than going to sleeep then it started cutting off while I was using it.  I became worried that there was a problem and went to back up the hard drive on an external hard drive but suddenly the computer would not start at all.  before that happened i would get the gray screen with the dial and a bar underneath.  Help!

  • Urgent HELP needed: Address Book will not start, just spinning wheel.

When I want to start the Address Book I just get the spinning wheel without end.
If I press: Command-Option-Esc to force-quit the application I am informed that the Address Book is not responding; I can only force-quit the application.
Since my AB data is also on MobileMe and another computer, I could, if necessary, delete whatever data files (and repopulate later). But how do I get Address Book working again?
Your help is highly appreciated. Thanks, Veit

Thanks, Roam, for the referral to Pacifist; sounds useful in the future.
I could solve my problem by:
    - deleting the com.apple.AddressBook.plist file
    - resetting the synchronization files as described in http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10868689&#10868689
    - and finally syncing with MobileMe, i.e. overwriting the computer with data from MobileMe.
All seems to work again, also the resizing. Thanks again for your help. Cheers, Veit

  • Power book will not charge, battery just replaced.

Recently the power adapter or the power connector on my computer would easily disconnect from each other.
This morning I noticed that it was not charging at all, played around with it trying to jiggle it into place yet it does not have any connection.
Before I go and spend $100 on a new charger,or $200 on a service bill, is there a way to tell if it is the adapter or the connector on the powerbook.
I noticed on the cylindrical plug that the silver tube has seperated and was wondering if that would have to be sealed in order to maintain a ground.
I know it is not the battery as I was able to get one on warranty, through apple care, and it charged full last night, which it is showing 4 hours left.
    Thanks

is there a way to tell if it is the adapter or the connector on the powerbook.
The easiest thing to do is go to an Apple store where they will have a working power adapter, or if you have a friend with one, use it. It sounds like the female socket itself may be shot, which would require replacing the DC-in card, which is around a $75+ part, plus labor to install.

  • My I Book will not start! Help!

    Hi,
My software update showed that there was a security update which I loaded and was told to restart the computer which I did I got as far as the page which told me all the programs were loading with the blue bar (sorry am not very technical!) when it gets right near the end (I think its loading login window) it just doesnt go any further last night I left it for 45 minutes and still nothing! Can anyone help?

Do you have the original install CD's? You may want to run Disk Utility. Or you can start your computer up in Safe Mode, which includes an automatic disk check and repair.
This article should actually walk you thru the steps if you are unfamiliar with this. You will probably have to repair permissions on your disk.

  • TS1367 my computer will not start up

my daughters mac book will not start up from power button

    Hello trayce64,
Thank you for the question.  I would be concerned too if my MacBook was not starting up.  If you have not yet tried the following steps, I recommend steps 1-6 below to isolate and troubleshoot this issue:
    Resolution
If your computer won't turn on, try each of these steps:
Verify you have a good connection from your Mac to the wall outlet by confirming the power cord and adapter if present are securely connected and plugged in. To check if the wall outlet is working, plug in a lamp or other electrical device.
If the wall outlet is working and you continue to have no power try another power cord or adapter if available. If it works you may need a replacement cord or adapter.
Note: See Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters for further troubleshooting with MagSafe adapters.
Disconnect all accessories that are plugged in to the computer, such as a printer, hub, or other mobile device.
If your Mac supports user-installable memory, solid state drive, or hard drive, and you recently installed any of these, make sure they are installed correctly and are compatible with your computer. If possible, reinstall the original memory or drive into the computer to find out if the behavior persists afterwards.

    Reset the SMC.
If you are still unable to start up your computer after trying each of these steps, visit an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for further diagnosis. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail Store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only). Note: Diagnostic fees may apply for issues not covered under warranty or the AppleCare Protection Plan (APP).

  • Mac Book Pro will not start on Battery Power

Mac Book Pro will not start on Battery Power although battery at 98% need to connect charger. When started date and time incorrect, comes up as 1st Jan 2012.

What is the exact model of your MBP?  The date change often is an indication of power loss to the MBP, such as disconnecting the battery.
If the SMC reset does not solve the situation, post this from your MBP:
Make certain that the power adapter is connected.
    Ciao.

I have a MacBook pro that has power issues and will not start but the hardrive is fine.  I do not want to lose all of my files so I was wondering if it's possible to transfer my hardrive from a older Macbook pro to a new one if I were to purchase a new one?  Also, the software is not updated as the computer hasn't worked for about 2 months.
Also, if it is possible to transfer the hardrive, would my iTunes music transfer as well?  It is not saved in the cloud.
Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated.

You computer is probably perfectly repairable, but if you want a new one anyway, it is perfectly possible to transfer the data from the faulty one.
But it would be a mistake to simply put the old HD in the new computer.
    These are the steps:
Remove Hard drive from faulty computer. (very easy on Unibody MBPs, do-able but not so easy on older MBPs)
Put it in a cheap enclosure
    Connect it the new computer
    Boot up new computer.
If the new computer has never been run before the Setup Assistant will ask if you want to import your apps, data, settings etc from either another mac, another HD connected to the Mac or a Time Machine back up.
Obviously chose the second option (another HD connected to this Mac) and follow prompts.
If the new computer has already been run (so Setup Assistant doesn't run when you boot it up), you will need to use Migration Assistant...or run the installer again so that Setup Assistant runs again.

I just installed OS X Yosemite on my MacBook. I now cannot get the computer to start up. If I hold down the power button to try and power it back up, it will not start. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Download and install the OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 Combo Update.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
    Alternatively, see:
Reinstall OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Choose the version you have installed now:
OS X Yosemite- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
