Power brick in Portugal or Spain

I'm currently living in Lisbon, Portugal but took a business trip back home to the U.S. where I picked up one of the newest MacBook Pros with the high res 17 inch screens. A beautiful thing it is.
However, the few times I was able to turn it on before heading back to Lisbon I didn't notice the power supply was not charging the computer.
So, I get back to Lisbon, and my computer is dead and I can't recharge it!
I can't find a replacement power 'brick' anywhere in Lisbon! My computer is sitting useless! It breaks my heart.
I am traveling to Spain over the next week, so if there was a chance to buy one there I would be happy to.
Ideally Apple would pay for it since I have just spent $3500 on a currently useless piece of hardware. But at this point I'm happy to pay and be up and running. When they get me a replacement I could probably find use for two.
Anyone know this area? Portugal or Spain? I'll be in Madrid initially for a couple days. I'd be happy to taxi to some store and make my computer glow again. Thanks for any suggestions.

You have a Apple Center in Lisbon. It is a store and also support center. It is located near Amoreiras Shopping (address Edificio Amoreiras Square, Rua Joshua Benoliel 1 E e F).
Ask the taxi driver to drop you at Amoreiras Square near Amoreiras Shopping.
you can easily spot the exact place via google maps link

  • Apple ADC to DVI Adapter -- Power Brick gets HOT

    Hello all,
I just purchased an Apple ADC to DVI adapter to connect my 23" Cinema Display to my new Mac Pro. It works perfectly, but I've noticed that the white, square power brick is generating quite a bit of heat. It feels sort of OK (within tolerance) at the edges but toward the middle it's noticeably hot. Not hot enough to burn my hands, or cook an egg, but definitely toasty warm. Is this normal? Or does it sound like I have a defective one?
    Alan

If by "on" you mean the adapter is connected to your display and plugged in to an AC outlet, and you have an image on your display coming from your computer, then it's not dead.

  • HP dv6500z Notebook: Power brick gets hot, HD area gets warm.

    Hi:
I have an HP dv6500z notebook.
Is it normal for the power brick (suppy) to get hot ?
By hot, I mean that it is warmer than "warm".
You wouldn't want to keep you hand/fingers on it for a long time.
Similary for the Hard-Drive area and other area on the front of the notebook:
i.e., the areas to the left and right of the trackpad.
These two areas were warmer when I had the notebook sitting on top
of one of these Targus  "cooler " stands that you place the notbook on:
it has two fans built into it to pull  heat away from the notebook.

No it is probably the biggest online marketplace for car parts and computer parts and other stuff. Think of it as a huge swapmeet with some retail stores mixed in...virtual of course.

  • Power brick/ charging problem 2011 MBA.

My wife's 2011 13" MBA has suddenly stopped recognizing the charging cable when attached to the air, and so not charging at all. No recognition LED at all orange or green, nothing. I've done all the ususal stuff, switched power plugs, took off the extension cable, put it back on, ect, ect...
I was about to go see Apple but realized I have a 27" Apple LED display for my Mac Mini. I attached the charging cable from that display and walla! It took and started charging immidiatly. So that tells me its NOT the Air itself thats the problem, its the charging cable somehow. Its either the power brick and that cable or both of them. I looked up my year long Applecare ( I didnt purchase the additional 2 years ) and saw that I have at least until Dec 8th to get it in there to have the cable replaced after they do their own testing....but we know what the problem is. I bought the Air from MacMall, not Apple so they are assuming that its Dec 8th but its later than that and I can find my reciept from Mac Mall and find out and bring it with me.
ANYWAY....is or HAS anyone had any problems like this at all? With any other Mac? I have the new retina and my magnetic power adapter is different so I can't test it that way but it did work via the display. I guess I'm asking if anyone has any experience with ths issue?
    Thanks!
    Seattle

If I understand you right, you have already proven that it's the charger which is defect. So, go and have the charger replaced. Depending on what caused the defect you may get a new one under warranty.
If it's no hassle, take the MBA with you to test it on site with a new charger.
Other than that and FWIW, I'm sure you'll find other people who found their charger dead one day. Why, would that help?

  • MacBook using a Pro power brick?

Is it okay to charge my MacBook with a MacBook Pro power brick/adapter?

    Steven Kent1 wrote:
So the 65W Pro power brick will not damage my MacBook battery?
The MacBook Pro supply is 85 Watts not 65 and it will work fine on the MacBook. I use one as a spare for my MacBook. It runs much cooler when charging than the original power brick.

  • My Huawei dongle on Orange wouldn't work on a recent holiday abroad, either in Portugal or Spain. My local Orange dealer has heard of this being a problem with Macbook Pro's. Is this a fact and if so, can I overcome the problem? Thank you, Mike

On a recent holiday abroad my Huawei dongle on contract with Orange with roaming abroad enabled would not work with any mobile network operators in either Portugal or Spain. My local Orange dealer advises he has had this complaint before with other Macbook users. Is this a known problem and if so how can I overcome it?
    Thank you,
    Stoneybroke

Thank you for your reply ds store.
Orange has a large portion of the European market and I was actually connected to 3G Orange Spain on my roaming IPhone when in Spain, at the time my dongle would not work. Not only that, I checked with Orange UK before my holiday and they not only confirmed the two countries I was travelling to were ok as deals were in place, but also took my money for an additional roaming data bundle, but still no luck.
Twice when in Portugal on separate days of trying I actually connected to their local mobile network provider and managed to download my emails before being disconnected after about one minute. This only occurred when I had re-booted my Mac.
As soon as I returned to England last week the dongle worked perfectly so it does point to the European local mobile provider and how my MacBook Pro talk to one another. To validate this point, last year I used the exact same dongle and sim with a windows PC I had at that time and all worked perfectly well.
I have found similar problems within this forum but no actual solutions that I can find anyway. I just wish I could find a definitive answer to guarantee the combo works next time I am in Europe.

  • Pavilion zd8000 power brick repair

I fixed it once before, the lead between brick and zd8000 broke near the tip, I'd cut it and soldered it and closed it back up with heat shrink. It worked for several weeks.
Now it won't power anymore, but worse the wires were completely sheered from the tip so I don't know which leads to solder to which wires.
I have 4 wires, blue black white and ground (presumed).
Does anyone know how to rewire the tip of this power brick lead?
    brick looks like: http://www.upgrademaster.com/compaq-hp-c612/compaq-presario-r4200-ac-adapter-135watt-p34514.html

  • Can i use my old ipod firewire power brick to charge my iphone?

i have a power brick from an old 20g b&w ipod. it looks like a laptop brick, but smaller. it has a FW socket and says it puts out 12v 67a.
i'm going on a trip and would like a spare charger. will this work for my iphone 3g or will it fry it?
    thanks!
btw - i did a search on this topic and found similar threads, but none addressed this particular FW charger.

i'm getting a 404 error on that link for the ipod touch manual. but i looked at p.33 of the iphone user's guide, and it does say that you can't use a FW charger. it doesn't say why, however.
i see that the iphone charger is 5w/1a. what happens if you use a 12w/67a charger with a device that's configured for the former?
according to somebody in this thread, the device being powered "requests" only the power it needs, so you can use a more powerful charger (a MBP charger for a MB, for example) - but you can't use a less powerful charger to charge a device that needs more power (a MB charger for a MBP, for example).
(for instance, can you charge a macbook with a macbook pro brick - i know you can't do the reverse)

Can someone in the US who has the new Apple AEBS tell me the voltage specs on the power brick.
Hopefully the power brick will be okay for the UK (240 volts)

  • Can I charge my ipod with an iphone power brick

I have a recently purchased iPod Shuffle and expect it is a 4th generation.  It came with a charger that fits into the earphone port and attaches to a USB port for charging.  Can I use the power brick that comes with an iPhone 4 and attach my iPod charger to the USB port on the brick and charde the iPod without damaging the iPod?

    Yes.

  • Power brick plugs...

    Hey everyone,
I have an iBook g4, which I love taking on the go. When it's tied down at home, I use the plug cable, when It's with me mobile I prefer to use the plug tip that plugs right into the power brick, which brings me to my problem.
I lost the plug tip. Now here's my question:
I have a power adapter for an iPod charger that looks identical in every way, and fits perfectly as well. Can I use that with the power brick to charge my iBook on the go? I never use the iPod charger, so it's no loss to me.
Is this safe, or am I going to fry the charger? My guess is since it only carries AC into the brick, it would be universal, but I don't know...
    Any ideas?
    -joe

As John said, it will work. You can also use generic figure-8 power cables that come with devices such as radios or purchased individually from radio shack etc.

  • Power brick

The cable from the mag connector down to power brick, appears to have design problem. The cable connecting to the power brick thas problem with cracking or breaking. No matter how careful you with handle the cable and power brick, this problem does occur.

Yes this seems to be true.  I had one fail with no rough handling.

  • Dead power brick - disposible?

    Hello!
A few weeks ago, I had the misfortune to bend the cable on my PB's power cable too far, and the cable overheated where it joins the brick - to the point of turning a blackish-purple! Needless to say, I never used the cable again. I have a new power cable, but I still have my old one around.
I was about to toss it out, when I remembered that many computer items can't be thrown away safely due to various chemicals. Are the PowerBook power bricks one of these items? If I can't safely throw it away, what should I do with it? Although I'd love a shiny new Mac, I won't be upgrading for the foreseeable future - so I can't return it to Apple. I need to find out if my town has a computer recycling program, but it's rather small - so probably not!
    -Dan

I'm not an expert, but I think most of what's in a power brick is harmless from an environmental standpoint. I think its mostly copper wiring.

  • Fire in power brick

the other day, the power brick on my 12"pb burst into flames where the cord from the computer enters. that is unsafe and shouldn't happen. i'd like apple to just give me a new power supply, but i don't know the best way to do that since the computer is probably 6 years old and i don't want to pay for a support phone call.
    any thoughts/suggestions

Take it to your local Apple store - hand it to them and, nicely, ask for a no charge replacement for the power adapter that 'burst into flames'. A new non-Apple power adapter runs $35 to $50, while the Apple adapter sells for $79.

  • Alternative power bricks?

The power supply brick for the Mini is humungous! I bought a lovely little bag for carrying a Mini back and forth between home and office - but have never used it (and never used the Mini as a 'mobile') because of the size of that power brick.
Why does the brick have to be so much larger than those for laptops?

Although the Mini uses many "notebook" parts, it was designed as a desktop computer -- so I doubt the portability of the power brick was a primary design criterion.
The Mini also does not have a large storage battery inside, the way notebook computers do, and as such has no buffer for temporarily larger power demands: everything has to come from the brick.
A number of users in this forum have reported buying an extra brick "for work", when they wish to carry their Mini between work and home.
