Power button is blue but Zen not

Hi all..My power button is lit, (blue) but the Zen Touch is off..and i keep pressing the button but it wont turn on. It happened after i plugged the USB cord from the comp to it to let it charge. andn ow the light wont go away and it wont turn on. help!

Scorpian - thank you for replying.
I have again tried to reset but still unsuccessful. I hold the reset button (on the side of player below volume) in with the end of a paper clip and still no change. My player seems unresponsi've to anything I do. I am at a loss.
It is now 08:5 and the blue power light has been on from 22.00 from last night (since I was first aware of the problem). I was using the player no problems at 20.00.
I am not aware if the player received a knock. I definitely know it was not dropped.
I really am at a loss on this as I am new to the Zen Touch 20GB.
In need of urgent help.
Regards.

I have tried with a wired USB keyboard and mouse using a single screen. Powered up with option pressed. No change.

Run the Apple hardware test to see what it tells you. Run the extended test when prompted, which can take awhile.

Try restoring the iPod to rule out a software problem. First restore from backup and then to factory defaults/new iPod.
Then an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    - Connect to computer and it it shows in iTune restore via iTunes
    - Then try letting the battery fully drain. After charging for an hour try the reset (both buttons) and connecting to computer and restore.

Hi.. My Iphone acts as if it is dead. Tried a lot with Sleep +home buttons as well, but did not worked. When it is plugged in, keeps on charging with a regular beep. Please advise.

Yes, I understand that. But The screen issue is not a result of user damage. The phone was not dropped when the screen got cracked. My daughter was standing in a chair at the table and dropped one of her toys onto the bottom of the phone and cracked it right by the home button. (Nowhere near the LCD/digitizer flex cables, connections, or logic board components) then a few months later my phone had died, I plugged it in, it showed it was charging, then Apple logo disappeared and screen didn't work. AFTER contacting Apple about the issue and them telling me that it "is a result of the very minimal crack to the sheet of glass that has no relation to the LCD or Digitizer and that the warranty does not cover it I had taken it upon myself to change the LCD/digitizer to no avail, as well as backlight ic and backlight coil to no avail. But how do I go about letting Apple know that it is in fact NOT due to the cracked screen nor is it due to the flex cable connections? I can't. So the lady that works the call center phones  trying to "convince" me that she knows what she is talking about and "convince" me that it is from the cracked screen I have to take her word because I can't show Apple that its not because of that without paying them $199 to fix the screen in which case they will just send me a new phone rather than fix the faulty hardware under warranty.

my power button on my iphone is not working. What can i do about that?

Meaning that you cannot restart or reset the phone?  If you haven't tried already, try both options.
Otherwise, you can do a backup & restore, or even a restore as new (only after a successful backup).
If the issue persists, then look at a replacement. Either it will be a hardware defect (free if within warranty), or physical damage ($49 with AppleCare Plus, $149 without it.)

Apple will most likely exchange it. The one you receive will be refurbished.

  • Hp touchsmart300 pc shuts down, the screen is black, power button is lighted but not responding?

HP Touchsmart300 PC with operating system Windows 7.
The PC shuts down even when active. The power shuts down although the power button is still lighted. It does not respond to touch, keyboard, or mouse. The only way to get it back on is by unplugging the power and then restarting windows. I already checked Sleeping Mode and Power Options in control panel, but no problem there.

I can totally empathize with your situation, as I too had the same exact issue with my HP TouchSmart 300. In fact, I have been dealing with this problem off and on for the last year. I have worked with HP tech support on numerous occassions. I have had them remotely control my computer and restore it to factory settings. I have reformatted my hard drive 2 or 3 times. I have tried multiple anti-virus software programs, removed anything that might cause a conflict with the operating system, etc. Basically, nothing was working for an extended period of time. And, of course HP tech support as this point to me, was essentially useless in resolving the problem.
It seemed like every few weeks it would start shutting down again. I started researching potential causes and discovered that I was not alone, in terms of the same issue with this computer. From what I read, in many forums like this, it seemed like the probable cause had to do with either the power supply, or overheating. I felt like the problem might be due to the system overheating, so I removed one of the back covers, which worked for a short while. I then removed a second cover, which helped for a few days. I even placed a 20 inch box fan behind the unit to try and cool it down (which still remains in place). However, my computer would just keep shutting down over and over again.
Finally, as I was long ago out-of-warranty, I just decided to completely open-up the back of the unit and poke around a bit. I cleaned out all of the system fans, reseated my memory cards, and ran the computer for a few days with all of the covers removed from the back. It would still keep shutting down. However, I did notice that the heat sink and attached copper tubing were pretty hot (even with the 20 inch fan blowing directly on them). So, I removed the heat sink apparatus from atop the CPU. I discovered that the thermal gel was pretty much long gone, and what was left of it was not so evenly applied. So, I ran over to the nearest computer store, and purchased a tube of thermal gel (for about eight bucks). I found some rubbing alcohol and cotton swabs in the house, and proceeded to use those to carefully remove the old dried-up thermal gel from the top of the CPU chip, as well as the heat sink plate (if that is the right word for the part). I applied a fresh even layer of thermal gel to the top of the cpu and placed the heat sink back on top. I turned the system on, and it has been running smoothly ever since (about 2 weeks without a single shut-down). I have even noticed an increase in performance. The top of the heat sink is noticeably cooler to the touch now.
I realize that your situation may be different, but if your system is out-of-warranty, you might consider this option. It seems to have resolved my problem. I will repost an ocassional update if anyone is interested, thanks.

Thanks.  I have followed all the instructions as recommended and nothing has worked so it looks like the restore/update may have been interrupted - would loss of internet connection do this?
Yes it would, possibly even brick it.
Have successfully connected my ipod nano with iTunes so looks like the device driver is working.
Can I use my ipod nano USB connector to check?
It is not much help to you, since the device that you need still not recognized.
Anyway looks like I may have to swallow the loss of data.  Have set-up a call for tomorrow with Apple support so will wait until after this before doing the factory restore!
Good luck, but if you expect miracle from that call good luck again.

  • Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q870 power button unresponsive but laptop powers up using media control button

Well this is perplexing, I could really use some help.
My power button on my Qosmio X505-Q870 is completely unresponsive. I've tried holding it for 30 seconds, but to no avail. I removed the battery & replaced the battery, testing the power button by pressing it for 30 seconds or rapidly pressing it - makes no difference whatsoever.  But then, I noticed if I touch the media touch button, the computer powers up! (And opens up Windows Media Player) Very stealthy...
Now when the laptop is already powered up, pressing the media button does not turn it off. It only opens Windows Media Player.
Here is some background info that may or may not be helpful:
    1 1/2 years ago:
RAM was upgraded to 8 MB
I replaced the HDD with a SSD, and then installed the HDD into the 2nd bay.
Computer has been running fine since these changes, aside from running hot when gaming.
    2 days ago:
I upgraded the SSD to a larger drive.
Then, I disassembled the laptop with the intent to apply some thermal compound and clean the fans to address the temperature issues.  I could not complete this task because 2 screws were stripped and I couldn't get the cover off, afterall.
I did not swap any connections, but did notice one seemed a bit loose after carefully lifting up the keyboard so I gently eased it back in to place.
I put the laptop back together, and that is when the power button and media center button issue began. So it must be a result of either opening the case or upgrading the SSD.
Any thoughts on what could be causing this to happen?
And if anyone has a trick to remove stripped screws without taking a drill to my laptop - I'd love to hear your ideas. Thanks!!

Thanks for your reply! Actually, yesterday I upgraded to the new kernel (version 3.4.3-1) and my laptop has not freezed since then. So, maybe I will wait for a couple of days and hopefully mark this as solved.

  • HP Envy 15" TouchScreen Power LED shows up, but fans not running and screen does not come on

    Hello there!
I am a 1A Software Engineering student at University of Waterloo, and I am running into a very serious problem with my HP Envy 15" TouchSmart laptop running Windows 8.1. This is a problem that just started today, and I would rather get some support from here first before I go see the technical support office sometime tomorrow; it has to do with the screen and fans where the Power LED lights up white, just as when the laptop is running properly.
(I do have warranty on the laptop since it was bought last June, except that if I find out I need to get a replacement, I'll lose all of my work I've been doing on it ever since I started my semester. It's so ridiculous of me to not have all of my work saved on a backup, as I do have an external hard drive. Trouble is, I got way too many problems in getting myself organized, I am not being open-minded as I should, and worst, I am not finding a balance between homework and life.)
Before I had my MATH 117 (Calculus 1 for Engineering) lecture, I was in a lab nearby where my laptop was opened and turned on, functioning properly. I had NetBeans IDE running since I wanted to work on the second part of my current CS 137 (Programming Principles) assignment. Because it was almost time for my lecture, I closed the laptop by simply moving the screen back down onto the keyboard, where it goes into sleep mode. (Anytime I flip up the screen, the laptop is supposed to come back on, and the login sliding screen from Windows 8.1 shows up.)
When I took my seat for the lecture, I wanted to spend a little bit of time to work on my programming assignment. However, upon flipping the screen back up, instead of having the login screen show up, I encountered the problem: the Power LED is showing a white light, but I can't hear the fans running from the vents on the left side of the laptop, and the screen does not turn on. I did try to hold the power button for several seconds, and once at least 10 seconds, except that the Power LED keeps on showing a white light. The light for the Wi-Fi board does not show up.
Whatever it is, I don't want to pull the battery out because I did do that on my last laptop, and it was from there that I couldn't turn the old one back on again. If I pull the battery out from the Envy laptop, it'll short-circuit the connections from the battery to the computer, and thus several components will fry. For now, what I'm doing is leaving the laptop as is to drain the charge on the battery. And then, once I notice that the Power LED does not show a white light anymore, plug the AC adapter, then try turning the laptop back on using the Power Button.
It's going to take a little while for the circuit to drain the charge on my battery though...
Anyway, would you please be so kind as to help me out with this issue? I would really appreciate it if you can give me several recommendations. Thank you!
