Power Button only sleeps my MacBook Pro

Greetings,
After upgraded my mid-2010 MacBook Pro, the power can only sleep the computer. The dialogue box no longer appear that gives us the choices of shut down, sleep or restart. I can't find anyway in the System Preferences that can configure this. Any help? Thanks.

Due to a few complications and experiences, a single click on my power button no longer puts the computer to sleep
The couple of seconds for the dialog works, but the single click does nothing.
I reinstalled the OS, to solve another issue, but the button still the same.
How can I reset it's funcionality?

since upgrading to OS lion, my mac book pro (2010 August) keeps freezing (non responsive, requires restart) when i turn on my mac and the system is trying to open apple mail. while apple mail is attempting to collect new mail, the macbook pro freezes. this happens every 2nd time i try to start up my computer. this only started happening after i upgraded to OS lion. please let me know what I need to do to fix this. being forced to restart every 2nd time i turn on my macbook pro has been very frustrating. not sure if apple mail is also the cause of my macbook pro for being very slow during start-up (on the occasion the computer doesn't freeze).

I am having similar 'freezing' problems with many programs (Mail, Safari, iTunes, etc.). I have done a clean install of Lion instead of an upgrade when it came out. Perhaps something went wrong with my install? I'm thinking about wiping and reinstalling.

  • Power Button freezes up my MacBook Pro

My MacBook Pro freezes up everytime I hit the power button. Not even the mouse will move. I have to force it to shut down everytime. It began happening the moment I left the Mac Store for another issue I was having. What has happened? Also, I can't find the HD anywhere on my computer.

I suggest you go back to the Apple Store and ask them to fix whatever damage they did to your system. What should happen when you press the power button is that a dialog appears prompting you to restart, sleep, shut down, or cancel. It's a standard feature and there's no reason why you shouldn't use it.

  • Changing Power Button settings on a MacBook Pro Retina

Is there any way to change the power button on the MacBook Pro Retina to press twice to open power down window?  I sometimes press power down button instead of delete, it's kind of annoying...

This discussion has the same problem.........didn't see it before, but it still doesn't have an answer except to call.

  • After sleep, retina MacBook Pro (Mid 2014) does not recognize usb connected mouse movement

After sleep, retina MacBook Pro (Mid 2014, on 10.9.4) does not recognize usb connected mouse movement. I have tried a generic usb mouse and my Razer Deathadder usb mouse. Both mice work before sleep; but after sleep, the computer no longer recognizes mouse movement while still recognizing the mouse buttons when pressed. Any idea why this is occurring?

  • I'm traveling to London for the summer, does anyone know a good power adapter/converter for my MacBook Pro?

I'm traveling to London for the summer, does anyone know a good power adapter/converter for my MacBook Pro? I know there's the Travel Adapter Kit but it's only for iPhones, iPods, iPad, etc.

    Apple World Travel Adapter Kit
The World Travel Adapter Kit includes the Apple USB Power Adapter, USB Cable and six interchangeable AC adapter plugs for use with iPod, iPhone, and iPad. The adapter plugs can also be used with Apple MagSafe Power Adapters, Portable Power Adapters, and AirPort Express, so you can plug your power adapter into most electrical outlets around the world.

  • Press Power Button to Sleep

Help for Sys Pref / Energy Saver / options says that,
"To put your computer to sleep by pressing the power button once, select the checkbox labeled “Allow power button to sleep the computer.”
I don't see that option on the screen under the options tab (or any tabs) under energy saver.
    Suggestions?

    HI Rick,
I might have figured this out. You have a G5 running 10.5.7 ... The conflict is that option maybe not be available to your G5. I just looked on my G4 and it's not available in Tiger in Options. I think it's your hardware that's the issue.
Have you been able to do this prior to this? Or are you referring to your MacBook ??

It seems the problem has been resolved (noisy motherboard?)
I just ordered a new machine but I want to cancel my order if I can't be assured of getting a machine that doesn't have the problem.

its my understanding that the issue has been fixed... however there is no DEFINITE time of when they switched the parts used that caused this issue and on which model (1.8, 2.0 2.16)

    Hi
Time needed can depend on several things.
    • less than 5 GB free space on Start-up (Mac OS) hard disk = Redicolous long times AND a DVD that most probably will not work OK
Medicine - I never go under 25GB free space
    • Use of strange file formats into iDVD - can force it to de-code first then re-encode - this can take long long times
    I use
Video - StreamingDV as from miniDV tape Cameras - or QuickTime Movies Converted to StreamingDV
    Audio - .aiff 16-bit 48 kHz - (no .mp3, .wma etc)
    • Use of old Mac - My G4 600MHz took about 24 hour per hour movie. my dG5 - about 2 hours per hour (I use Pro Quality encoding)
    • Pro Quality encoding - takes about x2 to process a movie

  • Does a usb cab to 60 Watt L-Tip Power Adapter charger for Apple MacBook Pro Laptop Charger exist

    does a usb cable
does a Usb cable to60 Watt L-Tip Power Adapter charger for Apple MacBook Pro Laptop Charger exist? i have an external battery pack i would like to use to charge my iphone and macbook pro.

Not that I am aware of.  An Internet search on your part will be required.  If you should find something to that effect, note it will not be endorsed by Apple and the magnetic connector will probably be in violation of Apple patents.
    Ciao.

It appears to depend upon the version you will be using:

Based on what I can tell, you may have to go to the second hand market in order to get a MBP that will run a compatible OSX.

  • ExpressCard (PCIe) hot-swapping issue only happened in MacBook Pro 6.1

ExpressCard (PCIe devices) with hot-swapping issue only happened in MacBook Pro 6.1. But there is no this issue at all in MacBook Pro 3.1 and MacBook Pro 5.2.
I had tried ExpressCard to SATA2 Adapter (Silicon Image 3132 ASIC), ExpressCard to 1394 Adapter (TI XIO 2200 ASIC), ExpressCard to USB3.0 Adapter (NEC D720200 ASIC) and ExpressCard to SDXC/UHS-I Adapter (JMicron JMB389 ASIC). I had got Kernel Panic (Sytem Crashed) for ExpressCard to SATA2 Adapter, Other three devices can not be detected when we process hot-plug / hot-removal these ExpressCard (PCIe devices).
We expect Apple can solve ExpressCard (PCIe) issue by updating EFI / OS Software. Awaiting for your kind reply~ Thanks in advance!

Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode
I have tried installing a disc to try and reinstall the operating system.
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.
If you did manage to reach the desktop after doing any of the above
