Power Button Sleep Function

Hi everyone
In the last couple of days I cannot sleep the computer by pressing the power button on the back of the unit - when I do this there is no response. However it will sleep as normal using the Apple Menu.
This is on an iMac G5 20", PPC Rev B with 10.4.6.
Has anybody else experienced this and/or have any ideas?

Hi moog5 - my iMac has an option to use power button to sleep machine, you can find it in System Preferences > Engergy Saver > Options , make sure yours is turned on / chekced. The only other thing I can think of is RESET SMU, go to this link, good info etc... Good luck, Rick

My friend has Windows 7 running under Boot Camp on her iMac. She'd like it so that, when she presses the power button on the back of the iMac, Windows 7 goes to Sleep rather than Shutting Down. How can she make this happen?

Power button not functioning well

van any one give solution tothis problem. my laptop show blank screen although led lights are on in batery. with external power also fisrt pres same thning happen but upon hard reset and putting on again it starts normally. waht is the problem and solution to this problem. nay on please help me

Amazing how people areover reacting... think guys for god sake! Why do you think the button doesnt click? yeah right!!! because there is rubber under it! Why? to make the device waterproof.
Offcourse it doesnt make the sound or give the same feedback a button gives on a not waterproof smartphone.
One advise if you really hate it. and i do too because it feals like the button will stop working any minute. you enable the double tap function on the screen to wake the device. If you install Lock screen by Go launcher EX you can put a button on the homescreen to shutdown the screen. This way you wil never have to press the power button except when you need to reboot or power down the device.

Power button sleep/wake

So I used to tap the power button and it would put my Encore mini to sleep. Lately though, whenever i hit the button I get the drop down that says SLIDE DOWN TO POWER OFF. Even going into the power options and setting the power button to do nothing still brings up the power off screen. I've power cycled the tablet but the issue remains.
I run Folding@Home as this thing really doesn't do much else but nothing has changed on the client since i installed it more than 3 months ago (no new client has been released). The only other app that gets any real use is Xbox Smartglass.

You might want to try using Windows+X to open the menu in the lower-left, selecting "Power Options," choosing "Change plan settings" next to your currently selected plan, and then resetting the plan to defaults. I don't know that that'll fix it, but it might be worth trying.
If that doesn't fix it, could you check the full part number of your Encore?

IPhone 5 power button /Sleep button / top right button not working

Does anyone have this issue when you press it, it is unresponsive. I have to press it like 10 times.
I press on the left side... it works? It is so annoying... can I take my phone to apple??

Are there not any reaction at all if you press and/or hold the ON/OFF button down? If not, it sounds more related to a hardware problem that a technician at an authorized service center needs to examine and fix.

Bbz10 power button not function

I own bbz10 nearly 2 months now, but since last week power button started not responsed, I tried to restore about 3 times already, same things keep occured. Need solution desperately. Thx

If you tried to restore your phone, and by that I assume you mean either battery pulls and/or factory reset, and it still doesn't work, it sounds like a hardware issue for which you would have to talk to T-Mobile. We can only advise on software issues here, we can't fix anything related to hardware.

Cinema Display Power Button Not Functional

The power button on my cinema display does nothing when pressed. The other button on the display (display preferences button) does work as expected. I have confirmed that the 'Disable power button' is not selected in the display settings panel.
The button glows brighter when I press it, but nothing else happens.
I would like to be able to start up and shut down my computer with this button since my bluetooth keyboard cannot do it, and I keep my laptop shut when it is connected to the external display.
I was just given this display, so I do not know if has ever worked.
Any ideas?

Possibly a daft question but do have either of the Cinema Display's USB or firewire cables plugged into your G4 as well as the DVI connection? This may sound obvious but I couldn't get the buttons on my 20" ACD to work until I plugged the USB connection into my Macbook.

"Allow power button to put the computer to sleep" setting is not available but button does it anyway

This has never happened before. Computer stayed at gray screen with no progress wheel so I held the power button to shut it down. Since startup afterwards the power button sleeps the computer. There's no "allow power button to put the computer to sleep" choice available in Energy Saver but button does it anyway. Is there a defaults command that will fix it? Something else?

I've had Mavericks for a week and a half. I don't believe yesterday could have been the first time I used the power button in an attempt to get the Restart Sleep Cancel Shut Down box, but I've been around long enough to know that memory will fool you.

Iphone 4 makes calls but screen is black and the power button doesnt work. never synced to computer or photo stream. I dont want to lose my photos

So, my Iphone 4 now has a black screen. Before it did this I unlocked the screen (which has a passcode) try to open instagram and the screen flashed and went black. I can make calls and it seems to send messages but I dont know for sure because the screen is black. The power button (sleep) does not work and when I try to reset the phone it makes a call. I never synced it to a computer or Itunes and I didnt start photo stream. I want to preserve the pictures because it has photos of family members that have passed. Is there a way to get the photos?? Help please!

If you have attempted the reset, which is holding the home button and sleep/wake button, was it still connected to the computer? Have you tried to do that when not connected. You stated it never came on, how long did you hold the buttons together? If you cannot get it to connect to iTunes then you would not be able to restore the device. You can see if you can put the device into Recovery Mode by following the instructions in this support document. If that does not work, then you are correct, make an appointment at the Apple Store. If you can't update or restore your iOS device

Power Button Lockout is displayed.
The monitor's Power Button Lockout function is enabled.
Press and hold the Power button for 10 seconds to unlock the Power button function.
If the above doesn't work then try a monitor reset. Unplug the monitor’s power cord and hold down the monitor’s power button for 30-60 seconds. Plug the monitor back in and power it up.

Help!, Ipad mini wont turn on even pressing both the home+power button

iPad wont turn on anymore even i press the home + power button (sleep/wake), nor even if i plug it with the orig. usb to the pc and to the charger! It doesnt respond to anything!. To simplify my problem, heres what i have done:
* I let it plug into the wall charger (original)OVERNIGHT, - nothing happens
* I plug it into the PC connect with iTunes (latest), - nothing happens, iTunes did not detect the iPad mini
* i press the home + power button for more than 10 minutes - nothing happens
* i have tried the dfu mode and nothing happens
Before this happened, the battery was at 43% then we tried to update it with IOS8 (so it was 2 weeks ago), since it alerted me that the battery will not suffice for the update process i cancelled the update ( the status was at "preparing update"). Then i put the iPad into the table.
The next morning this iPad is dead until now!!

IPhone 5 power button unresponsive, no longer under warranty.

My iPhone 5 started losing responsiveness in the power button (sleep/wake button) about 6 months into owning it. I put off taking it to the Apple Store, as the closest Apple Store is 4 hours away. Now, after my warranty has expired, I have an unresponsive power (sleep/wake) button, and I don't know where to go from here. Is it possible to get it replaced for free as before? Or must I pay?
Also, can I manually fix it? I have taken apart all other itterations of the iPhone, and replaced parts. If I can fix it manually, what must I replace?
Any help would be appreciated.

if you diy that device apple will not touch it...if the device is oow they will not replace it for free..you must pay oow which is $249. and once again if you have altered that device in ANY kind of way it is no longer apples problem
