Power Cable for US Import Macbook

I will recently move back to the UK from the US.If I buy a 60w magsafe power adaptor for my macbook from Apple's UK store, will this be compatible with my US machine, or is the power type different. I am concerned that most US electrical items are not compatible with UK voltage.

Hi,
A generic, "universal," notebook PC power cord will fit the MacBook power adapter's socket. If necessary, pull off the, "duck head," prongs or unplug the cord from the power pack. Plug in the universal cord, and you're good to go. The MacBook supply will work with input between 90 and 250 volts 50 or 60 Hz. The supply auto-ranges to adapt to any input.
Also note that universal notebook cords are the same as many electric razors and small appliances.

  • HT1338 Power cable for Macbook not working / Apple Care discount?

My power cable for my Macbook stopped working. I went to the bookstore at my school and at first they told me I could get a discount on a new one ($29 instead of $79) because I have Apple Care. Then they told me that was a mistake and I have to pay full price even though I have Apple Care... True/false????

It appears your Macbook is at least 2 years old. If you have the extended warranty and there is no physicla damage to your power adapter, then you "might" be eligible for a free replacement.
Have you tried replacing the duckhead adapter yet? That's the part that normally fails first.

  • Does anybody knows where can i buy a replacement AC power cable for my cinema display 27"?

Does anybody knows where can i buy a replacement AC power cable for my cinema display 27"?

It may not be the same molded plug but I would think any normal 3-prong computer power cable should work.
    How about this one?
922-6529 Power Cord - Apple Cinema Display
I've always had the theory that if you put two computer power cords in a drawer they will breed and you'll end up with a lot more!   My parts drawer is always full of them.  They like to knot up by themselves as well!  Maybe that's how they breed.

All you need is a plug adaptor, if required. Apple sells an adapter kit:

  • Replacement power cable for Photosmart 2570 Printer

Hi there, In a recent move I managed to misplace the power cable for my Photosmart printer. Has anyone any ideas on how I can obtain a replacement? HP haven't been helpful, but I feel there must be a way to replace this, rather than have to buy a new printer.

Hi - I'm not sure that you'll be able to order one through HP, but if you google 0950-4404, you should see a number of options for purchasing the power adapter.
    Hope that helps.

  • Use of an Older Power Cable with a New MacBook Pro

I have purchased a new MacBook Pro 15". It comes with the power cord with the silver "L-shaped" magnetic end.
My old laptop, which is a MacBook from around 2006, came with the white squarish magnetic end. It fits just fine on the new MacBook pro and seems to work fine.
Is it safe to also use this as an additional power cord for my new MacBook Pro? (I know, it seems like a silly question, but when dealing with electricity issues, it's always good to double check. I'd hate to find out that for some reason something about the old cord fries something on the new system.)

The older Macbook's power adapter has a maximum output of 65 watts, while the 15" McBook Pro comes with an 85 watt adapter. The 65W adapter will work, but with certain caveats — see this post of mine from the day before yesterday for a fuller explanation:

  • Can I buy iMac power cables for the UK?

I am moving to the UK from the US and I have several Apple products. I would like to know if I can buy a replacement cable for each of them (iMac, MacBook Pro, Apple TV, MacBook Air) that will fit into a UK power plug. All are fairly recent purchases (less than 2 years old) and I don't want to replace them. I can fit the World converter plugs on my Ipod and iPhone chargers, but they wont fit on the laptop chargers.
    Thanks!

All you need is an UK IEC power cord for the iMac (see image) and adapters for the Macbooks and the Apple TV.
The power supply in iMacs, Macbooks and Apple TV is an auto switching power supply that will accept voltage between 100 and 240V
Any standard european IEC power cord will do, you do not have to by one from Apple, but the Apple one as a extra round plastic part that will fit snugly in the iMac. (see second image)
Using a adapter is also an option for the iMac, but they tend to fit loosely on the US plug and can be more easily disconnected than a real European cord. If you go with only adapters, make sure you get good ones that will fit tightly on the us plug.

  • I need a power cable for an AirPort Express

    Hi,
When I went from a DSL service to Comcast, I had to move my AirPort Express to a spot in the house without a convienent power strip, so I stole the power cord from my spare power adapter for my MacBook.  Therefore, I now need to get an extra power cord.  Unfortunately, I can't find the power cable by itself on the on-line Apple Store and the folks at the brick and mortar store suggest I just by another $79 power adapter since it comes with a poer cord (but isn't that a bit overkill?).
Does anyone know a part number?  Perhaps I can order one if I just have that number.
    Thanks,
    Rob

I'm not aware that Apple sells the extended power cable by itself, but they do (or did) sell it along with audio cables as part of a kit, called the "AirPort Express Stereo Connection Kit with Monster Cables." It is Part #: M9573LL/A.
You may also find that by contacting Apple Support directly they may be able to provide this cable or check out outfits like Other World Computing (OWC) or DV Warehouse. Also, I just ran a Google search and came up with the following set of links: Apple Power Cord
