Power consumption with 5 Cisco CISCO AP1131G etc.

Hello everyone
I need to calculate our Cisco's network equipment's total max power consumption to choose UPS model.
We have following equipments in house.
CISCO 1941 integrated service router with WIC-1T-Use serial interface card (it says max 110w)
CISCO ASA5505 Firewall (it says max 96w)
Linksys slm224p unknown Wattage with 5 Cisco access Point AP1131G (18w each) connected through PoE ports
There is spec sheet of slm224P which doesn't specify it's own power consumption. (attached PDF)
On rear panel of SLM224p it says 3A,  if this is his consumption being connected to 220v power line, it might consume 660W
but it seems too much for a single switch without PoE ?
Any idea or comments would be appreciated.
Best Regards
tomoaki

  • Power consumption with dual power supply

    Hi,
I need to know how dual power supply works, I mean, when you have two power supplies in a router if both of them are working at the same time, or if one of them is working while the other one only begin to work when the first one stops.
And if both of them are working at the same time, what is the power consumption, the same as if only one of them was working?
    Thanks

The implementation details can potentially differ per product category but usually the following is applicable:
The product provides configurable power redundancy modes and choosing a mode dictates whether load will be shared across supplies or whether a particular supply will be dedicated for redundancy.
If both (or more) supplies are working at the same time then both share the power load.
The actual power consumption depends on the power required to run the installed components and is the same whether you use power supplies in redundant or power sharing mode.

  • Cisco 2951 router AC-PoE power consumption, meaning of the mention "Platform Only" in the datasheet.

    Hello,
I have a question regarding the power consumption of a Cisco 2951 router with an AC-PoE power supply (without PoE boost).
In fact in the table (n°7) of the Cisco 2900 Series ISR (G2) datasheet, that sum up the power consumption data for Cisco 2900 series routers there is the line : "Maximum Power with PoE Power Supply (Platform Only) (Watts)", and I would like to know what is exactly the meaning about the mention "Platform Only".
Thank you for your help, best regards,

    Hi @francois.trarieux,
This is the maximum power that is consumed exclusively by the router from the PoE PS (Power Supply). The power capacity that the PoE PS gives to other PoE devices (IP Phones, Cameras, APs, etc) is specified in the line below "Maximum End-Point PoE Power  Available from PoE Power Supply (Watts)" of the datasheet.
    HTH.

  • +5W power consumption when playing audio on X201 with Linux

    Hi folks!
My Thinkpad X201’s power consumption raises from ~10W to ~15W when playing any kind of audio under linux. This problem does not seem to be CPU-related (for example when streaming with pulseaudio over ethernet instead of playing directly on the X201 the power consumption does hardly increase) and does not occur under Windows. I’m using Fedora x86_64 16 with Kernel v3.2.1 but it also occured with a v3.2.1 vanilla kernel; Fedora 14 and 15; Ubuntu 11.10 and 12.04 and so on.
I’ve allready posted my problem several months ago here: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=99246 but haven’t gotten any useful answers.
I measured power consumption with powertop but also confirmed with readings from /sys:
    while true; do bc -l <<< "$(cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/current_now)/10^6*$(cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/voltage_now)/10^6"; sleep 1; done

Is anyone able to confirm this problem or does anyone have a solution? I’m really desperate since I often use my Thinkpad as a big but wonderful portable music player (with headphones of course! Don’t want to annoy my fellow trainpassengers …).
    Thanks in advance
    Michael

    Any updates on this?

  • [solved] Nautilus - high power consumption

    Hello,
Can someone reproduce a very high power consumption with nautilus?
It keeps running although I have closed all windows and causes an enormous power consumption. This is what powertop reports:
    4.67 W 942.2 ms/s 0.00 Process nautilus --new-window /home/orschiro/Downloads
    I am running nautilus 3.8.2-1.

Hung thumbnail process? Can you try disabling thumbnails in Nautilus and see if this happens? Close all Nautilus' processes after making the change.

  • Max power consumption 2011 iMac 27"?

    What's the total maximum power draw of a 2011 iMac 27" with 3.4GHz Core i7, 16GB RAM, 250GB SSD + 2TB HD?
This is so I can properly size a replacement UPS.
The Apple environmental report doesn't address this: the closest it comes is the idle power consumption with display on.

    Thanks for that rule-of-thumb!
Actually I have a maxed-out iMac (not a Mac Pro) -- as you'll see in my profile, a BTO with max speed Core i7, max RAM, also a 2GB VRAM. Both from greater eneregy efficiency of latest processors, I assume that without question a current iMac would in fact draw less than an existing Mac Pro.
I have an APC Back-UPS RS 1500, aka model BR1500LCD. Its battery is nearly at the normal age for replacement, so I'm considering the APC "trade-ups" program. Ideally, I'd get as replacement:
       Back-UPS Pro 1500 (865 W, 1500 VA)
Unfortunately, that's several inches too high to fit under my computer table, so that's out. That would seem to leave:
       Back-UPS Pro 1000 (600 W, 1000 VA)
With Apple's Environmental Report showing idle-display on consumption, at 115 V, as 143 W, the latter 600 W model would seem to fall within your rule-of-thumb recommendation, and even if I'm also running an external HD for backup that I want to let stop gracefully in the event of an outage.

I just bought old cisco 4506 with SUP4 + 2x48GB  3x48FE poe and have a plan to use it in my small office. (>20 port GB used)
I heard this chassis is power sucker so i need to lower it power consumption. can you tell me what i can do? such as
shutdown module that i doesn't used.
    shutown some switchport.
    power off 2nd power supply.
or your guys has alternative way ex. Cisco EnergyWise?
    Thanks

I'm using EnergyWise.  I don't see any relevance as to WHY you would want to use it.  I also don't see any information about your PoE requirement, hence, no comment on how you'd like to save money by powering down PoE.
The power requirement for the 4506 would, most likely, be LESS than getting six PoE switches individually.
I mean, if you don't use PoE, the line cards will only draw what is required.  So trying to save money from energy consumption of the chassis won't make a lot of sense.

  • Cisco 2960 Power Consumption

    Hi,
I am planning to use above switch for my project.
Please let me know the exact power consideration for this switch.
    [ 27W (AC) or 130W (AC) (100V x 1.3A) ] Power Consumption = Volt x Current.
I have below two snaps from your site, hence got confused which value to be considered as power consumption for this switch.
    Link:
    http://www.cisco.com/cisco/web/support/model/tsd_hardware_switch_model_296024tcl.html#0
    Case 1:
    Case2:
What should I consider as power required for Switch ?
    Is it 1.3A @ 110/240 VAC ?
    Or
    Is it 30W ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Amit

  • Server 2008 R2 RADIUS Server with a Cisco Aironet 1040 Wireless AP

I am trying to get Server 2008 R2 RADIUS Server to work with a Cisco Aironet 1040 Wireless AP. I have installed the RADIUS server by MS standards and performed some searches on Google to configure the Cisco Aironet. I see others using a Wireless LAN Controller, which I do not have. I found this post below:
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/11546056/wlc-2504-radius-2008-r2-server
But I have yet to locate a good step by step document on how to set it up and I have found so many different ways that others have set it up, but none have yet to work. I am having authentication issues that I have know of and I do not see any errors in the Windows Event Viewer and I do not know where the Acess Point stores it logs for any sort of error. Keep in mind this is the first time I am doing this. I do not have a Wireless LAN Controller and all my network / domain services are on individually built servers and not on one single server as I have seen with most of the documentation they all say the same thing by putting the Certificate Services, Domain Services (AD / ADS, etc), and NPS. I do not want that configuration and my setup should not be any different, but something is not right. I know from reading that this is not rocket science, but from someone who has never done it before this is difficult as I keep reading on and so many people do it different ways including what I have been reading according to what Cisco says to configure in the environment. Does anyone know where I can find good step by step documentation along with where I can look for logs on either device? I find that all the documentation I see on Cisco's website and from searching that it is old and outdated and not been updated in a long time so it is hard to determine what works and what does not work. I am stumped here and have been doing this for several weeks now with no luck. Thank you in advance.

I did configure the Server 2008 R2 RADIUS Server using this video below:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-0MM_tK-Tk
I also referenced Technet to make sure it was configured correctly as well. I am still not sure if I am 100% setup correctly on the Windows Server side, but I for sure want to make sure I have the AP side setup correctly. Do you know of a better article for the Windows Server 2008 R2 setup? Does it matter that I do not have all the services installed on the same server? Instead I have them installed on multiple servers.
I have image number c1140-k9w7-tar.124.25d.JA1 on the AP. The part that confused me in that article, which I have seen before was the part about "Setting up access point must be configured in the authentication server as an AAA client." What is the AAA Client? I also am not aware of having Cisco Secure ACS anywhere built into the AP as that part through me off completely. Do I need to skip these steps? Thank you for help on this.

  • Is it possible to purchase replacement Flash Card that came with the Cisco 1811 Router?

I am in desperate need of a replacement Flash card that came included with the Cisco 1811 Router. I purchased the router used and it was working perfectly. I worked my way through all the information provided at cisco.com and had it pretty much configured the way I wanted it. Until the flash card got destroyed. A little embarassed to go into details how it was destroyed, let's just say my Grandson gave it a bath.
It would be great if I could just purchase a replacement somehow with the IOS and SDM on it without purchasing a Cisco Service Agreement, etc. I purchased the router just to further my "Self Education". I have pretty much conquered all the aspects of the Cisco routers, etc. more or less developed for the Home Office user and moved on to bigger and better things. Since I was able to find a Cisco 1811 in good working condition very inexpensively I decided to go for it.
Help from anyone would sure be appreciated.

  • Thinkwatt: record power consumption and visualize it with gnuplot

    https://github.com/mikar/thinkwatt wrote:
Thinkwatt is a bash script for use with thinkpad laptops. However, as of v0.2, it works with all kinds of laptops as long as they've got a battery attached.
    Thinkwatt can
    * record your power consumption,
    * calculate an average of that consumption
    * and visualize that data in a 2D gnuplot graphic.
    options:
-r, --record    record power consumption and optionally create a graph from the gathered data
-p, --plot    create a plot image from a specified data file
-a, --average    calculate the average power consumption from a specified data file
-q, --quiet    makes thinkwatt less chatty
-o, --output    the output file. can be prepended by a path.
-h, --help    show this help text
    examples:
thinkwatt -r (will record to a temp file until cancelled)
thinkwatt -r 300 -o /foo/bar/consumption.dat (will record for 5 minutes to the specified file)
thinkwatt -p /foo/bar/consumption.dat (will create a graph from the specified file)
Thinkwatt works with all laptops, not just Thinkpads.
If you're running thinkwatt on a Thinkpad it is still recommended to use tp_smapi as it provides more accurate results than the generic acpi.
This is an example of what the graph can look like:
It's mainly useful for retracing power consumption during certain situations (e.g. measuring the influence of certain hardware or software (kernel comes to mind), or simply reliably gather typical power consumption for certain activity profiles like surfing, working, watching movies etc.)
I guess I'll add to the script when and if time and my bash skills allow it. Suggestions for improvement are always welcome.
You can get thinkwatt from my git repository here or the AUR here.

    demian

  • Power consumption increased with kernel 3.2.5

The new kernel 3.2.5 supposedly fixed the old power regression introduced in 2.6.39 (or so). On my T60 laptop (Core 2 Duo) not only that the power consumption stayed high, but the pcie_aspm=force option passed to the kernel is not working anymore. The result: my laptop consumes 20W on idle (I use KDE, kmail and firefox on with 2 tabs open). That's 25% more than what I had with the older 3.2.4 kernel and pcie_aspm=force enabled.
powertop2 does not show  anything unusual, the CPU is basically idle on the lowest available frequency 98% of the time (I'm using the ondemand governor).
Did you guys experience something similar or is it just me?

If you don't use Skype then I'd delete it.
PIM services is a bit high. I'd remove each of your accounts under Settings >Accounts. Then reboot the device. Monitor the PIM services battery drain for a while with no accounts added and see how it goes. Then add each account back, one at a time, and monitor for a couple hours to see the PIM services usage. It should be a bit high for the first hour while information syncs to the device then it should settle down. Once you're satisfied the account is working OK you can add the next account. Find the one that keeps the PIM services drainage high.
If the device doesn't show 4G, then what does it show?

  • Is it possible to use ICS with a Cisco VPN client to allow pass through access for Domain login for a second machine.

I have a current machine Windows 7 Pro with a Cisco VPN 3.5v client that currently connects with access to a customers network.
They shipped a second machine Windows 8.1 Pro without adding local accounts, that is pre-joined to a sub-domain the first system has access to.
Would it be possible to use the first machine as a ICS or Router to allow the second machine to see or access for log in, without returning to the customer site and plugging in for a log in point?
Trying to save a 3 to 4 hr trip and lugging a system back for myself and the rest of the team.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Please refer to this part
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-hk/windows/using-internet-connection-sharing#1TC=windows-7
    ICS and VPN connections
If you create a virtual private network (VPN) connection on your  host computer to a corporate network and then enable  ICS on that connection, all Internet traffic is routed to the corporate network and all of the computers on your home network
can access the corporate network. If you don't enable ICS on the VPN connection, other computers won't have access to the Internet or corporate network while the VPN connection is active on the host computer

  • Making a VoIP call with the Cisco 837 ADSL router

I would greatly appreciate if could please provide some technical assistance to my questions below:
Is it possible to make a VoIP call between two 837 ADSL Cisco routers over a 1Mbps ADSL broadband connection?
If so, can I configure this VoIP connection using either a PPPoE or ATM WAN link?
Is it possible to make a VoIP call using a Cisco 837 Router while simultaneously surfing the Internet? In other words do I need two public IP addresses i.e. one for accessing the internet and one for making the VoIP call or is one static IP address obtained from my ISP sufficent.
It is possible to configure QoS parameters (e.g. RSVP, Voice precedence, Voice codec selection) on this 837 router using PPoE or can it only be done using an ATM WAN interface?
Does the Cisco 837 router support both the H.323 and SIP communication protocols? Do I need to purchase a certain IOS operating system version for VoIP calling?
Does the VoIP dial peers need to be configured with both a POTS and VoIP phone numbers or is only one number required?
Do I need to obtain a special VoIP number from my VoIP service provider? or can I use existing POTS numbers or made up numbers within the dial peers as this situation involves making a private VoIP call between two branch offices using 837 ADSL routers and not via a VoIP service provider.
Finally, can I use POTS ordinary telephones with the Cisco 837 for making VoIP calls or do I strictly need to purchase VoIP phones?
My apologies for the number of questions asked here but I currently need to know the technical ability of the Cisco ADSL 837 as I am thinking of employing these routers in my company organisation.
I await your feedback in due course.
    Thanks,
    Martin Healy
