Power conversion needed

Moving to London from the US and trying to determine if my iMac needs a power converter or can I simply visit an Apple Store in the UK and obtain a UK based power cord or adaptor for US plug?

Hi anorth6252,
No 'power conversion' doodas required as the PSU is auto-sensing.
You will, though, require a UK plug adaptor. Yes, Apple do sell them but they are expensive. Much cheaper to buy one at the airport or an electrical store in London.

PS And may I be the first to welcome you here, in London.

  • PR to PO conversion need work flow

    Hi All,
    We have scenario,
PR will get generated from Sales order -
    this is already in place
PR to PO will be converted through background Job. -
    this is already in place
Suppose if any PR fails during conversion to PO---- we need to notify the user who created sales order
If Anyone have experience on similar kind of scenario, your inputs are greatly appreciated
    Regards
    Ravi

There is no such automate process for this but you can get the result via ME5A or add the custom code to send the fail reqs list to the user in your back ground PO job program.
The easy way is..set up the varian for ME5A with your third party item category (which is coming from sales e.g. in std SAP is 5) and keep the open reqs indicator on and run the ME5A. this will give him a least of open reqs.

  • Extra power cable needed for a SATA drive in a G4 AGP "Sawtooth"?

If one adds a SATA controller card and a SATA hard drive to a G4 AGP "Sawtooth", will a power cable like the one at the below link be needed, or would the necessary power cabling ordinarily come with the drive?

Thanks for the additional information, japamac.
That would be Left (or right angle 270º) for the data cable.
Which of the below data cables would be more appropriate, the 18" long one or the 39" long one?
    [http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Micro%20Accessories/SATA39L>
Power connectors would be a left angle 90º to get wires going up.
I found the below two (the first is the same one linked near the top of this thread):

  • G4 going to Japan Power Converter Needed?

I am sending a Digital G4 ome to Japan for my exchange student and need to know if power supply will recognize the 100 volt 5o Hz or will I need an adapter. I porbably already know the answer to this one but just wanted to confirm it. Thanks

Most Apple power supplies work worldwide, its just a matter of whether you need to switch them to the correct local range, or if they are auto-switching and will auto adjust themselves to the correct range.
Apple Power Supplies: Changing voltage settings Will tell you.
Also the power range of the power supply should be written on the back of the case.
For the Digital audio G4 it looks like you will need to change the switch setting on the back of the case to the correct range as it is not auto switching. (Little red switch next to the power cord)
Also you may need to pick up a new power cord with the correct plug for the local wall sockets if need be.

  • Hardboot Iphone without use of Power Button - need solution

My power button is not working.. i have read a lot of the posts about it. I know i have to bring it in to get fixed.  In the meantime.. I need to hardboot my phone.  Can i do this without the powerbutton? is there a hot key?  thank you.

Warranty and support are only valid in the country of origin.
As for your insurance, Apple does not sale insurance.  Take that up with whomever the insurance was purchased from.
If by insurance you mean AppleCare+ (it is not insurance), that is only valid in the country of origin.

  • Firewire Bus Power - Not Needed

I've been using an Echo AudioFire 12 firewire interface for years with my Mac Pro, but now I'm using it in the field with my MacBook.
The AF 12 is (AC) self powered yet the MacBook automatically sends it bus power, thusly running hotter and the fan never stops.
If I plug in a 6 pin FW cable to the MacBook and leave the other end un-attached the fan never turns on. When I plug in the AF 12, the fan starts up (within a few minutes).
Or is there a way to disable Firewire bus power on the Mac (10.6.5). Or can this be achieved using a cable that doesn't send power.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

I had the same idea as you.
I didn't think of looking for a method of turning off the Mac's firewire power - this would be excellent.
    The method I used was:
A firewire 6pin to 4pin cable like this (not this actual ebay item).
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2M-Firewire-IEEE1394-Cable-4-6-Pin-DV-out-PC-Lead-/2605482 48174?pt=UKComputing_CablesConnectors_RL&hash=item3ca9e2c26e#ht_2727wt1141
A firewire Adapter 6 Pin Male to *4 Pin Female* (not this actual ebay item).
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1394-Firewire-Adapter-6-Pin-Male-4-Pin-Female-/35040349329 7?pt=UKComputing_CablesConnectors_RL&hash=item5195acfdb1#ht_3761wt1141
My idea was that a firewire 4pin connection does not carry power, so the firewire signal would get through, but the power from the computer wouldn't.
The combined 6pin plug and adapter were heavy. They needed to be supported to keep them level when plugged in, if the socket was horizontally aligned, like on the MacBook Pro.
If you try this - be careful when ordering the adapter - some adapters are male to male - you need 6 Pin Male to *4 Pin Female*.
I also wrapped a piece of tape around the combined plug and adapter.
    Hope this helps.
    Richard

  • Assistance with conversion needed.

    Hello,
I have a bunch of short webm files which i would like to edit a bit and convert to small web sized flv files.
It's usually easiest to edit in photoshop because the edits are just in the sequencing, and the files have no audio.
quick and easy, doesn't take long to edit and be done with, just have a issue with the many file types.
I have also previously edited in Final Cut express and final cut pro, imovie, and idvd...
I have an awful lot of different kinds of video converters. previously, i would convert wmv files to mov files, edit or convert into dv files for final cut express.
I like the any video converter ultimate software, which can theoreticaly convert webm files to apple final cut, but results in an mp4, which the final cut does not recognize.
whew, there are so many brands of video conversion softwares.
call me cheap, but i've spent over $1500 for final cut/express/psd and do not want to spend a random $25 for a video converter.
is there a free mac software which can turn a webm or mp4 into a mov or dv file?
I might already have it, just too many to choose from.

    Try MPEG Streamclip.
However, if you want to convert WMV files, you will need to get one of the patd versions of Flip4Msc.
    Good luck.

ok, i've calmed down now and i think everythings sorted. all my files are still there and all applications, the ?'s just needed clicking on in the dock. i found it strange and wondered why my background changed. it's not a big deal, i just changed it straight back, but it made me think if that changed to default what other settings have changed to default? i've only had my mac a week or so, so i can't remember changing anything drastic, so this shouldn't really be a problem.
thanks alot for all the help, i'll know where to come next time i have any trouble. i love knowing that mac's have a good community of people willing to help each other out.

  • Macbook with no power. Need to confirm if any data on hard drive

My old Macbook will no longer power up.  I only need to migrate the data to my new MacAir.  Is there a way to confirm if there is any data left on the hard drive and if there is, can it be migrated to the new Mac without being in the computer?   I do know I was having issues with migration because I had the Fire Vault (?) activated, so needed to enter my password to allow for the migration.
    Thanks!

you can take out the drive and put it in an external enclosure like this and then plug it into your new mac.

  • 24fps conversion needed?

I have FCPx4.  Can I import media that is 24fps, 1080p?  Do I have to convert it, and if so what would be a good codec to convert it to.  And when I'm finished editing can I then export it to 24fps, 1080p?  The person I'm editing this for wants to enter a film festival and his project will be shown on a big screen in a theater--jqs

Unfortunately FCE (Final Cut Express) has never supported 24fps.  If you want to edit material shot as 24fps you will need to convert it somehow before importing into FCE.  You might consider trying MPEG Streamclip.
Almost ditto for 1080p material.  FCE does not directly support 1080p (progressive).  It does support 720p25 & 720p30 progressive material.  There are workarounds for using 1080p material in FCE ... it has been discussed extensively within the past year in this forum ... try searching the forum for techniques & answers.
FCE was designed to work with DV, HDV and AVCHD ... 480i, 1080i and 720p ... at nominal 25 and 30 fps.  In actuality Quicktime/DV NTSC or PAL and QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec.  Keep this in mind if you use a conversion program on your source material.  If you have 1080p material you want to convert it to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec for editing in FCE.

  • Power converter needed?

I'm travelling to Europe with my MacBook Pro.  Do I need a power converter to step down the voltage from 220 to 110?

Yes, I second that. But firstly I would suggest look on E-Bay. You can save some money on that, but you will also have patience.
For example, an 60 W MagSafe power adapter to my MacBook would cost me around 100 $ if I would buy it in Mac Inn in Stockholm. If I have patience and can wait 2 weeks, I can buy it of E-bay for around 25 to 30 $.
Searchword is "Apple Magsafe" or "Apple Power Adapter".
    Here is a link for it: http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?LH_PrefLoc=2&_kw=Apple%20World%20Travel%20Adapter%20 Kit&_clu=2&_fcid=192&_localstpos=&_sc=1&_sop=15&_stpos=&gbr=1#http://cgi.ebay.co m/EU-UK-AU-US-World-Travel-Plug-Kits-Apple-AC-Adapter-/160587188096?pt=LH_Defaul tDomain_0&hash=item2563be0780&vil=1.

  • Hard Disk Failure in G5 Power Mac, need to replace it, i have some question

In my G5 Power Mac, the hard disk has totally gone and i need to replace it.. can someone point me to a guide on how to do this? Im usually a PC kinda guy so this is a bit new to me.
    1) Will any SATA HDD work? does it have to be a certain brand?
    2) When the new drive is in, will it auto detect and automatically run the leopard installer of the disk?
    3) Is there anything i should be careful of or is it pretty straight forward?
any links or suggestions would be grand!
    thanks in advance!

You would need to hold option key or 'c' to boot from Leopard.
A really badly damaged drive can prevent booting from any disk, whether CD/DVD or hard drive, because the system still tries to see if there are other systems out there when it scans the various buses for bootable devices.
You probably need to unplug or pull the old drive to do anything. But you may be able to zero the drive. Partitioning checks the blocks where the partition tables will go, because those blocks can't be remapped later, and some drives fail at that point, but re-partitioning, not just erasing the user partition, is something I do frequently.
Is the 2nd drive bay filled? definitely want to use both drive bays.
Got a FW or other emergency boot drive handy? or small partition on a media drive that has just minimal OS X.
When swapping drives on G5s, NVRAM doesn't always 'learn' or see the new drive properly, so best to zap PRAM/NVRAM or reset nvram to clear the device tree and force it to rescan and recognize new devices (PCI, memory, and hard drives).
I would definitely want a working clone/backup and keep Alsoft Disk Warrior on it to repair and do maintenance of your drives on a regular basis to prevent problems from getting worse.
If you need to recover data, pull the drive and later see if Data Rescue II can see any files. You may need to repair the drive. And Apple First Aid comes up short on disk repairs and doesn't do as many tests and repairs as Disk Warrior.
I always keep a backup spare on hand that I can use if a drive goes out.
