Power drain on new iPod touch

I charged my 5 day old iPod Touch last night and disconnected it at about 11:30 pm. I left for work at 8:00 after checking stock prices. I did not turn off the Touch.
At about 10:00 I plugged in the headphones. At about 11:00 I tried to turn the Touch on, and only got a black screen. Nothing would turn on the Touch.
I then did the reset and the Touch reset then up as expected except it said I had only 10% of the battery left.
Has anyone else experienced a 90% battery drain for no apparent reason?

  • Brand new ipod touch 5th gen 64gb problems with first power on

I have just received a brand new ipod touch 5th gen 64 gb from amazon. After reading the instructions i tried to power it on but nothing happened.
It was suggested on here to try the recovery start but again, nothing happened.
I then plugged the device in to a wall socket charger to see if the battery is flat, but the apple logo comes on for about 15 seconds then goes off again. If I hold down the home button while the apple logo is off, after a while the ipod goes into recovery start up, but as soon as i unplug it from the wall socket adaptor it turns off.
It will not do anything plugged into the usb soccket of my laptop.
Any ideas or will I have to return this to amazon?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. You can go to an Apple store even if yo purchased it from Amazon

  • BRAND NEW iPod Touch 2g will not power up

I just received a new iPod Touch 2g via FedEx today, and it won't power up at all. I've tried connecting it to my PC (Vista 32-bit) and the screen remains completely blank. I've tried doing the hard reset (holding the home and power buttons down for 10 sec.) and the screen also just stays blank.
This is the first time I can remember a piece of hardware being DOA...is this merely a glitch? Is there anything else I can try to fix this?

I have had my iPod Touch 2g for a few weeks and have not used it a huge amount yet. I was very upset to find that after placing it in it's new Krusell case this evening and trying to turn it on (wake from sleep) a few hours later, it was completely dead. Dodo like.
Pressing the power button or the wake up button did nothing. I eventually found this thread and tried the power and wake up button together for 10 seconds. This seemed to work and it now appear to be fine.
A bit unnerving though, as I am working hard to get all my apps and data together so that I can use it as my PDA going forward. I need to move away from the old Sony Clie that has served me so well for about six years. It needs charging too often and I know the Palm platform is undeveloped.
I hope the iPod Touch doesn't let me know. Gave me a fright.
Hope you get yours going again...

  • New ipod touch won't charge/sync on the computer or using a wall charger?

My new ipod touch was working and i synced it on itunes and downloaded some apps and then it suddenly could not recognise it and stopped syncing.
it came up with error 0xe8000001 and said the iphone cannot be found, eventhough it's an itouch not iphone.
Now the error does not come up but it's not recognised on any of the computers. The cable is fine as it works for other ipods. It won't charge on the wall charger either and the battery is almost out. It syncs for about one second when i plug the usb into the computer and beeps and then disconnects again.
    Please help?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • New iPod Touch 16GB won't start

    Hello,
My new iPod Touch won't power on unless I plug it in via the iPod AC power adapter, and then I only get the "cord -> cd/iTunes" image. The second I pull the plug, the screen goes "black" - meaning it shuts off, but I can still see the outline of the previously mentioned image.
I've tried all the recommended solutions I could find. Power + Home button sequence, four different cords (I have a few older edition iPods) + the cord for my own iPod Touch (also new - bought together with my girlfriend - mine works, by the way...)
I would love to reset it via iTunes, but since I can't get it to work without it being plugged in via the AC adapter, that's out of the question. Also tried several USB slots on my computer (those directly tied to the laptop).
Any help or assistance would be nice.. preferably a solution faster than lightning.

I've had it on a genuine Apple iPod AC charger for 15-16 hours now, and the instant I unplug it, the screen goes semi-black. Meaning I can still see the outline of the iTunes-connect screen, as it fades away after a few seconds.
No response when connecting to a computer however. I've gotten one explanation saying that it could be that the Touch is completely drained and that that's why it couldn't get a charge via computer. However, I think I've blown that myth into pieces, no?
So is it broken? ...from factory? Sweet.

  • New iPod Touch not working with G3 iMac

I got a new iPod Touch (4 gig) for Christmas. Tried plugging it into my iMac Power PC G3, and I get an error message. ( error OxE000001). Is my iMac too old to work with the iPod touch?
Also as a second issue, I have a wireless network, but I don't have it broadcasting it's name for security. When I turn on my lap top, if it doesn't automatically find the wifi network, I just type in the network name, and it pops up.
Any way to do this with the iPod Touch? (Type in the network name, even though it's not broadcast)
I'll also list this question on the WIFI section.

    Ken;
I AM running with iTunes 9.0.2. in my slot loading G3 iMac. There is no special Hack.
You tried to help me earlier, when my G3 just would not work after I upgraded Safari and iTunes. I ended going to the Genius bar, where they worked on it for hours to get it going again. They installed earlier versions of both programs.
I was going to keep it that way, until I was given an iTouch for Christmas. The iMac just did not see it. I was resigned to updating my iTouch through my son's iBook.
In a question I had about upgrading my wireless network, John Galt said his 500mhz G3 worked OK with the iTouch. Over two weeks I slowly installed what he had, (or close to it) I think Safari has a G3 version, that I may have missed when you were helping me.
The last thing I upgraded was iTunes 9.0.2. After three or four tries, and plugging in the iTouch USB cable directly into the iMac, the iTouch was recognized! It seems to work fine over the past week or so.
Some odd things I have to live with. When I plug in the iTouch, iPhoto will start and ask about downloading pictures from the iTouch. I have to manually start iTunes if it is not already on. It does not automatically start like it does with my iPod nano.
Also I did not realize how slow this machine is, I thought down loading a CD through a La Cie DVD/CD player at 1.3x speed was fast. My son's iBook downloads a CD a 9 x speed! Oh well... slow but steady.....

  • Major problems with transferring songs to new iPod touch 5th gen

Hi, I'm in need of help.
I just bought a new iPod touch 5th generation today and I naturally wanted to transfer some songs to it today via iTunes. I have an old MacBook aluminium with os x 10.5.8 and I have not been able to update any of my programs lately due to the fact that my os does not support them. When I plugged in my iPod to my computer, iTunes immediately opened and said that I had to upgrade to the latest version of iTunes because my iPod is not compatible with the current version. I tried doing so but failed since my os is not compatible with the new program. This is obviously just a vicious circle, since as I said, I have to buy the latest os x to update any of my programs. And since my computer is 5 years old I do not feel the need to do that, because I will soon buy a new one (in about a year).
So now I really need help. How do I transfer music to my iPod without using iTunes? I've tried googling it and I've downloaded a bunch of programs but they are just 30 day trials and that won't work for me since I update my iPod daily. I've also tried putting music on dropbox but my iPod won't download music files from there, and sending music through Bluetooth won't work either. For a moment I though iCloud might work but I don't have that on my computer nor can I download it. Right now the situation seems hopeless, is the only way of solving this by upgrading my old computer or wait until I buy a new one? I feel like there must be some sort of way, but I can't come up with anything else.
    Please help me, thank you

I know of no way except to upgrade the computer/purchases newer computer that will handle iTunes 10.7 or later.
If you have a Power PC processor (vice an Intel processor) you need a Mac with an Intel processor. If you computer has an Intel processor just purchase the Snow Leopard upgrade disk About $30

  • My brand new ipod touch won't let me download apps.

My brand new ipod touch won't let me download apps.  I put in my password and then get a screen that says "Download Now".  I can't press the okay button to start the download.  What should I do?  All of the other buttons on the screen work, so I don't think it is broken.

Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...

  • Brand new ipod Touch (8GB) does not work with DHCP

I have a brand new iPod Touch (8GB) that will not work using DHCP. No matter what I do (reset router, reset ipod) the DHCP still doesn't work. I can manually setup an IP/Gateway/netmask/etc. and it works but I really need the DHCP to work if at all possible. I'm using a Linksys WRT54G. I was able to use an old Linksys wireless router and the touch gets an IP, etc. with no problems but I can not get my Touch to work with the WRT54G. Any ideas?

its possible to have a bad power supply that has too much AC ripple on the output which can make the screen do weird things

  • Brand new Ipod touch 5th generation won't charge.

Hi! So i just got my brand new ipod touch 5th generation in the mail. I went to turn it on but there was no power, so then i plugged it in to charge, but now every time i try to turn it on, the red battery charge symbol shows up, and its been charging for an hour now. I have used many apple products before and they usually dont take that long to charge. Does anyone know what the problem is?
    PLEASE HELP!
    thanks.

    Not Charge
    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
