Power Failure: cpu=1; code=00000008 (unaligned stack)

I have a Quicksilver 2002 DP 1.0GHz.
System Profiler reads it as a DP 733GHz about 50% of the time and a DP 1.0GHz the other 50%.
It always has a screen freeze about 4-5 min after startup.
I reset the processors; nothing changed.
But now I'm getting some system failures at bootup:
Power Failure: cpu=1; code=00000008 (unaligned stack)
and something about waiting for the debugger.
Anyone have an idea where the is?
Thanks,
Shamus

Yesterday my computer blacked out, like the circuit had blown but no. I put my hard drive into another G4, Dual 1.25 Mirror. It's a 120 G drive, running 10.4, current Safari. I ran Tech Tools and Disk Warrior and everything seems fine with it. But as I tried to lauch iTunes, it acts as though I’m loading a new version, asking me to accept the terms of the software. I canceled. Wierd. I purchased and downloaded an audio book from Audible yesterday and synced my ipod which received it. In iTunes info it gives that time as when iTunes was changed. It's wierd enough to wonder about a bug. Otherwise this hard drive acts fine.
Any ideas? Much appreciated. The original computer that I'd like to fix is still blacked-out although as long as I hold the button, it lights. I zapped the PRam but have no other ideas. Thanks for any ideas.

Hi there & welcome to Apple Discussions...!
I'm wondering if the processor is over-heating? Is that a G4 iMac?
The model and configuration would determine several factors.
If possible, a sensor software may be able to tell if the computer
is over-heating; but if it is too old a model, there would be little
if any information from the processor. Some don't have a sensor.
If the computer has been worked on, and the upper section opened
beyond the place where the second RAM and wi-fi card hides, it
may be possible the thermo-paste and thermo-couple may need
to be looked into; since this is important. If the factory RAM slot
has seen an upgrade, or if the clock battery replaced, or maybe
if the hard disk drive was upgraded; these require the upper part
of the iMac G4 to be opened. And it is a tedious process...
And if that is an iMac G5 or maybe a newer Intel® powered iMac
the question of overheating or other hardware issue may remain.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Crash - System failure: cpu=1 code 00000001

For the past few days I have been experiencing computer crash:
    System failure: cpu=1 code 00000001  ......
I have been reading blogs online and this appears to be a big problem with the Mac G5 PowerPC.
I have done so far a DiskWarrior fix. A Disk Utilities from the OSX install disk.
Temps are in the range of 32C to 56C.
Has been running OK today except for this morning when it would not boot up - just the gray screen with the spinning circle.

    Might try this...

  • Installed new RAM and now got System Failure: cpu=0 error

This is so frustrating! I installed a 1 GB RAM chip (4200) in addition to the original 512 RAM. I turned on the computer, everything started and was working. I went in to the System Profiler and it was showing RAM as ok, but it had this: (Reversed) <-- in the name. I thought it was odd, but it was at least showing up. I quit iCal and I got a screen full of code with errors - the one I kept seeing was a kernel error. There was also a message that I needed to restart. I did - then it would not come on (fan was running, no video). So I shut down, took out the RAM, put it back in and let it sit for a few hours. When I turned it back on, it started up and I was able to log in to Gmail and created a message reply. In the middle of typing, I got an error that starts out with "System Failure: cpu=0; code=000000004 (No saveareas)" There's a lot more (about 1/3 of my screen) and the last line says "Waiting for remote debugger connection." I live about an hour and a half from a Mac store, so if I have to get there, I can....but does this mean I have a bad RAM chip or just a bad computer?

Odds are that it's a bad RAM module. People report many problems even with RAM modules that supposedly meet the printed specs. This is why a vendor that will easily replace modules is helpful.
Go back to the original 512MB only and see if the computer at least works. You might also try swapping sockets. It's possible you may have exacerbated the dead RAM socket problem, or even just have lint or dust in the sockets.

  • This device cannot start. (Code 10) Status Device Power Failure for Intel (R) Audio Display

Hi I just bought HP Envy M7 Sleekbook last week and upgraded from 8.0 to 8.1 for Windows 8.
Now I have no sound and this is the error message I get:
This device cannot start. (Code 10) Status Device Power Failure  (for  Intel (R) Audio Display)
under Sound, Vieo and Game Controllers in the Device Manager.
Anyone else having this issue after upgrading?
Getting a new lappy is stressful enough but to alreay have issues is ridiculous
If the upgrade is not the issue could something have happened in transit? (I have an issue with the way Best Buy packed it for shipment and wonder if it could have been compromised)
Any help is appreciated. Or should Ibe taing this back to best buy and have them address it?
    Thanks
    Pam

Ahmed, if your HP Envy has an Intel processor chances are it will be necessary to download new drivers for both sound and chipset due to compatibility issues with Windows 8.1. After 4-1/2 hours on the phone with various technical agents and a lot of frustration I finally got one who had the knowledge and training to resolve my issue. I believe he downloaded the new drivers from the HP support site. Good luck!!

  • Vista got corrupt after power failure. sfc reports error and Event log service is unable to start itself.

    Hi,
After a sudden power failure, I guess vista file system is corrupt.   I am able to start vista in normal mode, but it seems there are errors like Event Log service unable to start itself,  when I start IE, it closes automatically ,
Norton antivirus does not start itself.  and so on.
After Bing search, I went to safe mode and executed sfc /scannow and it reported error as below.
"Windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them"
Unfortunately I am unable to upload log file, so I am pasting CBS.log content here....   Please advice.
Some parts of logs are removed due to limit of 60000 characters.
    Please advice.

  • G5 Power failure during start up and wake

I have an early G5 20" non-iSight iMac that has a power problem that is steadily getting worse.
As Apple support has expired and can't be extended, I'm at a loss how to resolve this.
    Description.
The problem first started as intermittent during wake up from sleep (power light pulsing). I'd move the mouse or tap the keyboard to wake the iMac and I'd hear the disk just start to spin up followed by a sharp 'pop/click' like the power cord had been pulled, and it would be powered off needing the power button to be pressed to restart from scratch.
Now the problem has worsened in that occasionally I will find the iMac has completely powered down during sleep. When I restart it can take up to 6 or more attempts to get to the point where I can use it. There's a sequence of restarts needed, each starting from pushing the power button, and then ending during the starting sequence with a 'pop/click' as the power suddenly shuts off. Each time the start up will progress a little further than the previous attempt until eventually it finishes building the desk top after login and I can operate normally until the next time I find it powered off after a few hours of non-use. The power failure starts initially from just after the welcome chime, and progresses to maybe 5 or 6 times later to during the desk top build after log-in. However, once logged in and operating the iMac behaves as normal, switching users, log-out and login, screen save and wake from screen save etc are all as I'd expect. I've not (yet at least) had any sudden power failures during normal operation.
The serial number of the iMac falls within the Sept 05 Repair Extension Program serial number range (not EMC 2056 though), but when I spoke to Apple Support they said that the lack of random behaviour meant that the problem I'm having is not related and so would not be covered by this program.
So I'm kinda stuck with a problem that is annoying when it occurs, which is daily at the moment, although it's been this bad a few weeks back and then was fine (iMac left switched on for 2 to 3 weeks without a problem) until we had a power cut earlier this week, and it's started again.
I've searched through the forums and while I could find plenty of references to 'Sudden Power Loss' none seemed to be as predictable and similar to this one.
    Suggestions and ideas welcome. Thanks.

i am having a similiar issue. I have the same exact computer (iMac G5, non-isight) and it stays on for 30 mins, hour, 3 hours and shuts off. Upon starting up, sometimes it doesn't make it to the login screen before shutting down again. I have downloaded heat temp monitor programs and it seems to get to about 70 degrees celcius sometimes. Upon restarting, I get the "report problem to apple" screen with this information. I have tried to restart the power supply too.

  • IMac Power Failure

Just wondering if i could get some ideas on what could be happening with my iMac. I seems to loose power when I'm in the middle of using an application like iTunes or Safari or any application that has heavy CPU usage or HDD Read/Write like installing something from a CD/DVD or even on a mouse click or a key pressed on the keyboard. When it's idle it doesn't usually do this. When it does loose power, it will restart after about 7 seconds since i have reboot after a power failure checked in System Prefs. I can replicate this using any power outlet w/ or w/o a surge suppressor in my house but I can't seem to replicate it at work or at the Apple Store (annoying), suggesting it would be something in my house but i can't seem to pinpoint it. Could it be the iMac's power supply just being picky or something else?
Some Info: iMac 7,1 late 2007 (First Gen Aluminium). The power supply was already replaced in early 2008 oddly enough from the same problem but Apple was able to replicate the problem and replace it. The only upgrades done to it was the memory from 1gb to 4gb a while ago. I already put back in the original memory to see if this was it but the power issues continued.
    Thanks for helping me out!
    -jake

    Jake,
I think what the previous poster was trying to say is he thinks it might be your power supply again. That was the first thought I had by the way your described the issue. If the iMac is still covered by AppleCare contact them immediately and open a case before your warranty runs out. If it's not covered follow this link to make an appointment at your local Apple Store to have it looked at.
    Regards,
    Roger

  • Database startup issue after power failure

Hello, I am hoping someone might have some ideas for me on this issue. We had a power failure over the weekend and I was not alerted in time to shut down my DB server gracefully. I am running a 10g (10.2.0.4.0) standard database on RHEL 5. When power was restored I booted the server and noticed the database did not start (I have a startup script in init.d), I tried running dbstart manually and that did not work either. Below is the entries in my startup.log file and sqlnet.log file, I cannot figure out what is causing the 12514 error, as everything was working fine before the power failure. Interestingly though I am able to start the DB by running dbca and making a minor config change that requires a restart, dbca is somehow able to start the DB. Any ideas would be greatly apprieciated. Thanks!

    Mohammed Taj wrote:
Why do you suggest starting the db before the listener?
I always start db first then after listener.
    Well, there's a good strong justification ....
because if you start listener then that time there is no db services to register, and lsnrctl services will show (no services ....) msg. Ok, so I have this startup script. One line starts the listener, the very next line starts the database. So in the few seconds between the listener starting and the database starting and fully opening, I am exposed to the possibility that someone might try to connect and get "ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor". That's opposed to the error they would have gotten a couple of seconds earlier, that would have said .... "ORA-12541: TNS:no listener"
Or I use your startup script. One line starts the database, the next line starts the listener. A full minute later the instance gets itself registered with the listener. So in the time between starting the listener and the database making as second - this time successful - attempt to register with the listener, I am exposed to the risk of someone making a connection attempt and getting "ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor". And again, this is as opposed to if they had been just a few seconds earlier and gotten ""ORA-12541: TNS:no listener"
or else if you want to start listener first then edit the listener.ora file and add the sid (few lines) then user will not receive the above mention error. In which case I start the listener first, it now knows about the instance without the instance self registering ... but it still has to wait for the instance to come up before it can service a connection request. How is that any different from NOT listing the SID_LIST, starting the listener, then starting the database and allowing the database to self-register? You are not eliminating anything from the user's end .. simply changing the error message they would get.

  • What is a neat way to delete a stale amavisd pid_file on first boot after panic or power failure?

Lion Mail Server component postfix/smtp 100% reproducible blocks inbound smtp mail delivery on first boot after a panic or power failure.
Error messages from mail.log are like:
    postfix/smtp[45785]: connect to 127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1]:10024: Connection refused postfix/smtp[45785]: 2F7131F9A97: to=<[email protected]>, relay=none, delay=76041, delays=76040/0.36/0.05/0, dsn=4.4.1, status=deferred (connect to 127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1]:10024: Connection refused) postfix/error[45790]: 550D61F9A99: to=<[email protected]>, relay=none, delay=76040, delays=76040/0.39/0/0, dsn=4.4.1, status=deferred (delivery temporarily suspended: connect to 127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1]:10024: Connection refused) postfix/postscreen[45872]: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from [100.200.100.159]:65392: 450 4.3.2 Service currently unavailable; from=<[email protected]>, to=<[email protected]>, proto=ESMTP, helo=<host.domain.tld> /usr/libexec/postfix/greylist.pl[45885]: Temporary message rejection to: <[email protected]> from: <[email protected]> sent from: [100.200.100.159] for: 60 seconds due to greylisting postfix/smtpd[45879]: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from host.domain.tld[100.200.100.159]: 450 4.7.1 <[email protected]>: Recipient address rejected: Service is unavailable; from=<[email protected]> to=<[email protected]> proto=ESMTP helo=<host.domain.tld>
The issue seems to be related to the amavis content filter due to the connection to port number 10024 and amavisd being configured on that port. Amavis.log:
    /usr/bin/amavisd[236]: (!)Net::Server: 2012/07/25-13:38:49 Pid_file already exists for running process (88)... aborting\n\n  at line 277 in file /System/Library/Perl/Extras/5.12/Net/Server.pm ... /usr/bin/amavisd[236]: Net::Server: 2012/07/25-13:38:49 Server closing! ...repeating roughly every 10 seconds...
The workaround is to reboot the machine, after the second boot the inbound smtp mail delivery is no longer stuck.
The issue seems to be related to http://serverfault.com/questions/138690/amavisd-net-server-pid-file-already-exis ts-after-system-crash-and-startup
How to permanently fix Apple Mail Server to accept smtp inbound messages on first boot, by removing the left over amavis pid_file from the previous unclean shutdown?

Use connection pooling. This will put the connection management in the hands of the webserver, not your code. Check out this post:

    Hi,
    I am using Windows 8.1
I have an External Hard Disk i have partitioned it to 4 parts.
One drive is now inaccessible due to sudden power failure while listening Music from that drive few days ago.

  • I had a power failure 2 days ago, have power now, but cannot send email from my iPad. Everything was fine before that. The box says cannot send mail, the user name or password for Gmail is incorrect. I haven't changed anything. I need help. Thanks

    Hi
I had a power failure 2 days ago, my computer is running again, but now I cannot send email from my iPad using Cox or my gmail account. I am receiving mail in my Cox account but not my gmail account. It was working fine until the power failure. It keeps telling me, the user name or password for Gmail is incorrect. I have not changed anything. I don't know what is wrong. Can anyone help me? Thanks

I agree, unplug and replug your router, then reset your iPad by holding down the sleep and home buttons, ignore the red power down slider, and wait til you see the silver apple. let it reboot and then try your connection.
Chances are rebooting the router will help. You may also need to talk to cox. They may need to reset something on their end.

  • A UPS model that works with Mac Native software to do a graceful shutdown and automatic restart during a power failure.

I've tried 3 UPS's (2 APC and one TripLite) that state they are OSX compatible, however, they do not fully respond to the native osx setting in (system Preferences/ Energy Saver/ UPS/Start up automatically after a power failure). This is what happens:
During a power outage, the OS does a graceful shutdown, but does not reboot when power is restored.
Apparently, the UPS is not notified to turn off during the shut down process. The power (on-Off-On) cycle is required by the mac to restart.
Trip lite tech support says they have software that works with Windows and linux to do this, but not mac.
I've tried two older APC UPS's, One Smart UPS1500 and a Back-UPS 1500 with the same result on two different servers and one iMac.
At this point I'm looking for a make and model of a UPS that does work. If anyone can verify a make and model that actually does this, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Its a simple test, just pull the plug on your UPS, wait for the system to shut down, and then plug the UPS back in. The system should reboot.

Many of the CyberPower UPS units are compatible. Checkout the home solutions on this page: http://www.cyberpowersystems.com/products/ups-systems.html
