Power Jack replacement

Here's the problem I have...
The tip of the 1/8" mini power connector broke off inside my powerbook G4 power jack.
The laptop doesn't charge anymore because of this so not only do I need to replace my power adapter/converter but I need to somehow get the broken off tip out of my computer jack or replace it all together.
Question is, does anyone know if it's easy to replace that jack inside the laptop and where I can get one compatible with my machine?
Thanks!

Is the piece of the connector still inside the jack?  Sometimes very delicate surgery can extract the broken piece with a needle nose pliers, but you need to use one hand, and make sure there are no magnetic qualities to the pliers.  Magnetism and electrical parts don't work well together!  Short of that, the actual replacement of the jack is complicated, but http://www.ifixit.com/ or http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ may have the necessary instructions and part info.

  • ThinkPad W530 Power Jack Replacement

Hi, I'm trying to replace the power jack in my W530 and I've run into a little problem-- I can't actually get the power jack out of the housing. I've disassembled the laptop to the point where I can replace it, but I can't actually get the jack itself out, it seems to be glued in to the extreme. Does snyone have any tips on how to get the power jack out? I already have the replacement part ready to go. Thanks in advance.

Alright, laptop is working! However, it says the battery isn't charging-- either in the system tray or the LED indicators on the outside. However, as long as it's plugged in, I can use my laptop and the battery won't decrease. Any ideas for what the problem might be?   EDIT: Never mind, it died on me again. A little frustrating.

  • DV7-1279wm Power Jack replacement?

    hello
i own a DV7-1279wm laptop, and the power jack is destroyed, and its out of warranty. I was wondering 2 things.
    1. is there a manual showing how to dissasemble the DV7-1279wm
    2. does anyone know the replacement part # or could find a sutable replacement. i saw this in another post
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170498079008&ssPageName=STRK
and was wondering if this will work. thanks in advance!

Go to the Link below, type in you model number in the search box and then hit enter, when the page loads select Manuals, there should be a manual that shows you how to disassemble the Laptop.
    http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support_task.html
It requires good soldering skills to replace the DC jack on a motherboard, there are a few models that are not soldered to the motherboard, these are much easier to replace and HP does sell this type of assembly, just not the solder type, to get a solder type you will just have to google "dc jack" and you model number of the laptop to find one that may work.

    Hi
    I have laptop
    Toshiba Satellite L500-11V

The power jack is broken. I dont know about soldering. If i buy power jack with cable can it be installed in this laptop as seller mentioned that soldering is not needed.
    Thanks

Of course the DC jack can be replaced but its a matter of notebook experience
Would not recommend doing this if you dont know hwo to do that exactly and if you have not done this in the past
If I would be you, I would spend bucks in order to get this fixed

  • Replacing the DC Power jack board. HELP

So my computer has gone kaput after a trusty 2+ years in the family (we bought it used). Based on posts I've read and my record for devouring power adapters, I'm hoping and praying the Power Jack has come loose.
I bought the part...everywhere I go I read this is easy to replace (in comparison to logic boards, at least) but no one says how....
My father and I have opened up towers together, but never a laptop. Could someone please give me basic instructions, or direct me to a set? I'm leaving for school in August, and if my computer isn't fixed I'll be in deep. Thanks.

Hi, you don't say what model iBook you've got but go to:
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/ select your model then select DC in Board from the left hand collumn. Follow the step-by-step instructions. Definitely much easier than a logic board...
    Good luck,

  • Hp mini 1035nr dc power jack issue

HP Mini 1035NR DC power jack is no longer making a connection to the power tip. Voltage is consistent on the tip itself. Did not help that my wife has been using this for some time by wiggling the power plug into the DC jack on the side of the netbook and it would "eventually" make a connection. It had been steadily deteriorating over the recent months, and now I can't get a connection at all, the battery has been replaced months ago and it will hold a charge for 2-3 hours easily. But now I'm certain it's the DC power jack within the base of the unit. The power light immediately next to the DC jack no longer lights, that is what we would use as an indicator to know we "jiggled" the tip enough to make a connection.
So my question is has anyone here popped open the unit to replace the power jack? If I pop it open will I have the ability to maybe access the connectors inside the jack to attempt bending them back into place? Must the whole jack be replaced? Is it soldered in place or possibly just a wire connector that I can easily plug/unplug? I did try looking into the jack from the outside with a strong lens and could see the metal tab for the negative voltage (external part of the power tip) connection within the DC jack but could not seem to bend it upwards when I delicately tried with a thin tweezer tip.
Don't want to risk popping this open if when I get inside it's not easily replaced. I'm OK plugging/unplugging, but taking a soldering iron to the board is pushing the envelope. Or has anyone found a slightly fatter power tip that works in this unit from some other power brick that might get a better connection?

It will need to be soldered if you do decide to replace it yourself. My suggestion would be to take it to a computer repair shop or contact HP support to see how much their out-of-warranty repair would be. The number if you are inside the US is 1-800-474-6836.

  • DC Power Jack part number Satellite M105-S3041

    Greetings,
My Toshiba laptop (M105-S3041) seems to be having a lot of problems with the power.
My OEM Power adapter broke and i bought a replacement (non OEM) from ebay.
That has been working fine till about a month ago I started having problems charging my laptop.
I believe the power adapter is working fine (as the light on the adapter lights up) and I may be having a problem with my power jack.
I have been searching for the model / part number for the DC Power jack without any luck. Would someone please help me out with the correct model/part number, where to buy and the approximate price for it?
Secondly, does anyone know if the power jack is plug 'n' play or does it need to be soldered into the mother board?
I have been pretty good at dis-assembling the laptop and putting it back together (except for one damn screw that does not agree to come off, I will probably saw that guy off).
    Thank
    Ajay

    Hi
Im not quite sure but I think the DC-in socket is soldered to motherboard.
In such case it would be tricky procedure in order to replace this.
But it seems that you are not 100% sure that this part malfunctions.
It could be also the AC adaptor issue as you said, you bought an not original part.
Its just a suggestion but I would try to replace the AC adaptor with an Toshiba recommended one before trying to disassemble the notebook and to replace the DC-in socket.
PS: All parts can be ordered from local Toshiba ASP!

    Hi Hammesh,
The FRU number of DC in cable for E420s is 04W1756. Refer hardware maintenance manual to understand how to replace it.

  • MSI GT680 DC Power Jack burnt out

soooo basically i was havin problem with the laptop struggling to recognize when the charger was plugged in and i had to adjust it into position and make sure it didnt move for it to charge...then a few weeks back i smelt something burning and smoke came out of the fan area (which meant the dc jack had burnt out)...so i ordered a new dc power jack from USA and opened the laptop up and can i say its really poor arrangement of components by MSI cos i had to take out nearly everything to get access to the jack which was stuck to the motherboard, it should really have its own wiring and seperate area if it can be burnt like this (like my dads acer does, his dc jack burnt out too but it was completely separate wiring for it so it took him 15mins to sort it out)
aaanyways i did eventually get to the dc jack and tried to desolder it from the motherboard and it took me ages, maybe because of the solder used on the jack or maybe cos the soldering iron i had wasnt hot enough, either way i finally got it off and soldered the new jack into place and put everything back together and crossed my fingers before plugging the charger back in but there was a little spark so i took it out immediately, the circuit must have shorted somewhere or some of the components must have burnt out intially
now i've got a dilemma in what to do...i live in the UK so parts are hard to come by and i dont think im under warranty cos i've had the laptop for more then 2 years so any suggestion how i can proceed
P.S another guy had a similar problem which can be seen in the post below but no solution was posted at the end of it

I'll be perfectly honest with you.
    Replace the motherboard.
Why? More than likely a FEW components have probably been damaged, most likely that you can't see. There might even be shorted traces inside the board at this point, or missing traces. So if you try to fix it, more than likely it will go up in smoke again, and possibly even worse this time.
any idea where i can get a motherboard for MSI GT680 (preferably in uk somewhere)

  • Lenovo G550 Power Jack Broken

Over the last week my G550's power jack has become less and less reliable and  eventually stopped charging the laptop at all.
I've seen several discussions about this being a problem but no actual instructions or pictures on how to get access to the motherboard.
Does anyone know anything else about this problem?
    Thanks in advance.

To get to the power jack, you are removing most every screw on the case. Remove the panel above keyboard that houses power button, then there are more screws beneath it. Then you can get to hinges, unscrew them, find another screw at each hinge after hinge is out of the way. Also unfasten the keyboard, but don't rip it out, to find a couple more screws underneath the keyboard. And finally you can take the two halves of the case apart well enough and get in to disconnect the power jack. The DVD drive will slide out, no screws attaching it. The wiring for the power jack goes to a location by the memory where it attaches to the motherboard. I disconnected the cable by the memory and pulled it through easily.
Should take a week for the part to arrive to me. Crossing fingers that the whole trouble is this and nothing else. Found other thread here that talks about securing the jack better: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Value-line/G550-power-connector-is-this-a-weak-point/td-...
Clearly there is a fault in the design of this laptop model, I think, when many people are having the same fatal issue.
Also, now that I think of it: if you wanted to test if this was the problem for you laptop without the trouble of disassembling everything, you could easily disconnect the power jack by removing the memory cover and unplugging it there; then plug in a replacement power jack (which you'd need to order) and test. If all works, you could then go through the bother of taking everything apart (or finding someone to do it).

  • Creative Juke box Zen xtra 60gb - power jack fail

    Hi guys,
I wonder if there is anyone out there that could help me
I got a Creative Jukexo zen xtra 60gb, and the

Has anyone experienced this problem, and would anyone know what to do if their warrenty is expired, i mean can i pay to have it fixed?
    Thanks a lot you guys.

You mean the center pin, inside the players socket? If this has come off/snapped you are a bit stuck for recharging the player via the AC adapter. You say that the Male plug (from the adapter) has the pin stuck in it's If it has then you need to contact Creative, If your player is still in warrentey you should be able to claim off it, especially if "it just broke"...
Contact them anyway and see what they can do, you cant repair the problem yourself without taking the player apart and replacing the entire socket. And you dont particually want to do that.
Tell me, did the pin just snap off, or did it come off another way?

  • HDX16 - power jack failure - possible to get quickdock connector?

    Bjorn <
After a bit more than two years, my HDX16 has gotten a problem with the ordinary power jack.
At first I thought it might be the jack itself - bought a new one and replaced the old one (compared to other HP laptops - it sure was a lot of steps to go through to get to the power jack itself...). No luck.
I also have an XB4 docking station - and the quickdock connector there gives power to the laptop. So, I know that at least that part of the power supply works internally.
I'd like to be able to use the laptop more mobile than now, and have been searching the net as good as I can for getting either a charger with a quickdock connector, a quickdock adapter for an ordinary charger, or a separate quickdock contact (with a wiring diagram) - but no results yet.
Does anyone here know if it's possible to buy any of these things?
    Regards,

Thanks, but as I wrote - I can't charge through the ordinary DC jack on the computer. I already have four chargers - neither of them work on the computer anymore (but they do work on my work laptop).
I bought the replacement DC jack from some firm on Ebay, can't remember which one - but he had a very good reputation there, and had been around for a few years.
What I'm primarily looking for is some way to connect a charger to the docking connector on the left side of the laptop. The same connector that the XB4 docking station uses. You can see it on this image (http://www.hafeezcentre.pk/ads_images/1293792055_su83/hc130139945632.jpg)
I would like to bring the laptop with me on travels, but I can't bring the XB4 also (that would look kind of weird on the train - setting up the XB4 and the laptop...)

  • Ideapad V560 power jack

I ordered a replacement dc power jack on ebay, the connector that goes to the motherboard is not the same, it is 6 wires but the new one is a little wider and the wires are thicker.  Am I able to cut the connector off the old jack and solder it to the new one? or will it cause voltage issues? How can i get an exact replacement. it seems lke all the ones i see for this laptop have different connectors.
    Thanks

  • W530 Power Jack Type

I'm replacing the power jack on my laptop and I think I may have used the wrong part. I used a NO.50.4KBE01.011, but I think the quad-core version uses a different jack-- does anyone here know the proper part number for a quad core W530? • Power jack not lighting up/charging

Hello, i was charging my laptop and after a while it tripped one of my electric breakers and now the power jack doesn't light up or charge. Most likely the hardware is burned or something. Is there a replacement part for this? I've been looking everywhere but I couln't find anything; I'm living overseas and it's hard to find places that service these laptops. Thanks!

I lived at Ramstein AFB for three years as a kid, so I know where Kaiserslaughtern is. American kids called it K-Town. I did a google search for the power adapter.https://www.google.fr/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=+germany+TouchSmart+1270us-Tx2+replacement+power+adapter+  Perform a Google search locally using the TouchSmart+1270us-Tx2 ersatz ladergerat.  There should be an umlaut over the last a in ladergerat.
