Power Light on all the time...

Today while changing out my video card, I dropped the screw down inside the computer. Being unable to get at it, or find it, I took the computer to the Genius Bar. The fella there said 'I doubt it will cause any harm' and proceeds to just plug it in, before I could say to him 'wait, I'm concerened that if that screw is touching METAL under there, it can fry something, and that's why I brought it in, instead of just turning it on myself'.
So he plugs it in, and the power light comes up immediately. Hmm. Strange. I assure him, the computer was working fine as I shut it down to install the card.
So now the computer is dead (and I'm convinved he turned it on, that screw somewhere in there fried something). So I'm pretty upset, this guy seemed completely incompetent. I should have just disassembled it all myself I guess, but made me nervous.
So has anyone seen that, the power light just comes on when you plug it in, no fans turn on, no other lights on the motherboard come on.
So he's thinking either MLB or power supply, and I beg him to order both, since it could be either one. They won't because they can only order one part at a time, if it's not that, then they'll order the other part. I'm furious, this is ridiculous...
Genius my but.

The power supply is pretty much sealed, so I doubt any screw could get in there. Can you hear anything moving around in it when you pick it up and shake it? Try reseting your PMU.

  • Green webcam light on all the time

When I boot up my Macbook the green light by the webcam comes on and stays on. When I start up ichat or photobooth nothing comes on the screen. Is my laptop defective?

    pascalg,
The light will be ON all the time. It's a indication of the WebCam receiving power from the USB port.

  • BB Curve 8900 died and will not turn on with the red lights on all the time

    Hey all
The Blackberry Curve 8900 I have battery completely drained yesterday afternoon and I could not connect it to a charger until I get back home last night.  I plugged the phone in around 11:00 , and even now 8 in the morning still wont be able to switch it on and the red light is on all the time.
Its a brand new one, I dont know what should I do to make it working.
    Thanks for all your help!!

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Typically, these batteries do not like to be fully drained...while rare, it has been known to render the battery useless. But, before you jump to that, there are a few diagnostic steps you can take.
Get a known good and fully charged battery -- put in in your BB. See if it works. See if you can charge.
Get a known good other charger, attach it to your BB, see if it charges.
    Try a different power outlet.
Give your battery to someone with the same model BB that they know charges fine. See if they can charge it.
The results of these steps will guide you to the root cause...which could be your battery, your BB, your charger, or the wall outlet you were using.
    Good luck!

  • Just purchased an 11" Mac Book Air, and I'm using it as a desktop. Is it ok to lea the power adapter connected all the time?

I'm using my macbook air as a desktop unit, with an auxiliary flat panel display, as well as an external storage drive and a CD/dvd drive. Is it safe to leave the power adapter connected to the computer all the time? Will the battery life get affected or shortened by being fully charged all the time?

Apple recommends that for best battery life, you allow the battery to discharge occasionally.

  • 6822 number pad lights on all the time

On the front number pad of my 6822 are two vertical bars. These stay lit up all the time which is killing the battery life. Its only recently started and I think maybe as a result of a mate putting in a keycode.
    Can you help please
    Thanks

uhh… k, now you’ve got another problem before you can solve that continuing lights problem, and that is, how we are going to force your mate to give you the keycode…
hmmm… you may need another website for this since you’ll be needing torturing technique…
...but for the mean time, you can try to reformat your mobile using code… sorry don’t know the code for formatting 6822 model but I guess you can do a little research on that… (remember: to back-up all your data specifically your contact when you do the formatting)…
...and then I’ll update you once I found website for torturing mate…

  • Shall I keep power plug on all the time?

Shall I keep power cord plugged on all the time for my MacBook Pro 2011?

You can keep the MBP plugged in whenever possible.
But once or twice a month  you should run it on battery
until battery runs down to about 40%.
    Best.

  • HP Pavilion zv5330us had intermittent power connection now all the time- jack or heatsink?

The zv5330us cannot get a good enough connection to remain on to complete full boot.  I need diagrams to locate the power jack and heat sink, CPU, or do I?  Replacing the battery didn't do a bit of good as the power isn't getting to the charging unit nor will it power on with DC Adaptor alone anymore.  This grew steadily worse.  Is there a source for tech specifications so I can replace these parts if I need to, and what about the CMOS battery?  Is it replaceable?

Connected the power source - the blue zigzag-LED power light is on in front - no error codes.  I will leave it in powered state to try and charge the battery a bit before proceeding in a few hours while I copy the drivers to a CD with the correspondent instructions in Word. This older laptop had a CD read-writer but not the newer DVD writer, I think.... So many devices, it is hard to keep them all straight.  Maybe another suggestion for a forum - how to keep all your devices straight with this software product >>>>>>> as yet unnamed <<<<<<<. Since cables and components bridge the gap between manufacturers, with small mods, it helps to get the consolidated listing of all components when you buy the things new.. HP had such a while ago and of course, I copied it onto said laptop, Pavilion zv5330us - which is, of course, the zv5000 family, unless HP broke ground with the 5300 devices - it would be lovely to see a matrix or historical exposition of how these evolved.  Sometime I think it would be better to have all the hard drives in a tower, accessible by remote, and for that I bought an HP USB drive, which had its hiccups.  Wonderful article "Cloud Services Showdown" in Maximum PC magazine, Vol 17 no 05, May 2012, comparing Google, Amazon,  Microsoft, and Apple's iCloud on page 38.  They didn't look at the HP or Linux or other commercially offered remote access to your data, nor other options in this article, just the Cloud-type services by the big 4 - but that is another Topic.

  • DV9000 Power stays on all the time

Hi all, I just did the Nvidia reflow, tedious process, but it worked.  Now however my laptop comes on as soon as the battery is inserted, and will not power down!  I removed and re-seated the power ribbon cable, but same thing.  The only way to power down is remove the battery.  Is it the ribbon cable?
    Thanks!

Hi, My C5500 printer keeps saying to turn off power and lights are blinking? Should I uninstall and re install? What happens to info already on the computer?

    Hi Tinkerbelll,
I understand that you are having an issue with the printer. I will try my best to help you resolve this issue. In this document for 'Turn Power Off then On' Message Displays on the Control Panel there are steps to clear this error.
Let me know if this helped or if you need further assistance.

  • Talking at night - phone randomly lighting up all the time

I think this is an issue with the proximity sensor, but this is making me crazy.
When I talk on my phone at night, the face of the phone is constantly lighting up and then going black, then lighting back up, and I dont feel like I'm moving the phone very far away from my head.
Is there a way to just turn off the screen/deactivate so it can't light up at night?

I had a faulty proximity sensor on the iPhone 4- never worked at all, extremely annoying. I took it to the Apple store and they replaced the phone no problem. Have not had any problems with the replacement phone.
