  • Power Mac G4 (APG Graphics) won't turn on

    Hi,
My Power Mac G4 (APG Graphics) won't turn on at all. This is not the first time, it also happened a little over a year ago and after about 9 months I plugged it in and it worked fine for almost six months. Each time there had been what could be considered "trauma," the first time we had moved about 400 miles and although it rode in the car with me, there was a lot stuffed in with us so it wasn't as gentle a ride as I'd hoped. This time we had an ice storm and I was actually using it when some power surges took place. It was plugged into a surge protector and everything else that was plugged in works fine.
When I press the power button, nothing happens. No chime, no light, nothing. I've pressed the PMU button and replaced the battery. I've switched to a different power cable. I've removed each of the RAM sticks and tried starting it while each was removed and after reinstallation. I've disconnected all peripherals. I'm stumped!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I followed the procedure I found through other discussions, but when I went to the link that was suggested in the previous post I found that I did one thing wrong. When resetting the PMU didn't work the first time, I continued to press it after each subsequent attempt. So after changing the battery, I pressed the PMU. After checking the RAM, I pressed the PMU, etc. According to the directions in the link, pressing the PMU more than once could wreck it completely. Does anyone know how to tell if I've done that or if I can do something else now? Thanks.

  • Firefox won't update the Flash Player plug-in. What do I do?

Firefox won't update Shockwave Flash 11.7.700.224 (last updated June 17, 2013). What should I do?

You may want to uninstall Flash first otherwise you risk of still having the old 11.7 and new version.

  • Power Mac Pro 8 core won't start

I have a Power Mac Pro dual, quad core that all of a sudden refuses to boot. I can hear a click and a second or two later a second click but nothing. If I unplug the unit and try in a day or two later it will start. I can reboot and it will start, if I shut down it will not start until I wait a day or so and try again it will start. Once it starts it runs great and passes all test from techtool pro 6.

  • My Power Mac G4 will not run software update program

I recently bought a used Power Mac G4. Everything runs fine. It is running Tiger. I try to update the software. I click on the Software Update Program. The little arrow appears under it. But, no windows open up. This happens for several different programs. I also can't run any CD's it looks like a window pops up. But then it closes right away. I need help.

Okay, kevib, try running Disk Utility and repair permissions, maybe click on verify and repair hard drive. I guess you can get on the internet okay- You may want to check Apple for any special G4 firmware updates/patches specifically for your breed of machine. Also, check your connection doctor, I don't mean to sound like an annoying person, but Software update needs to connect to the Internet to download software, so no internet, no updating. Failing that, you may have to go to Apple's support section and download the software updates yourself. Just click on them, save them as whatever, make sure they appear on your desktop, and then run them. Failing that, if you have the original software dvd's, you may need to reinstall the system software. restart your machine, hold down the C key on the keyboard, when prompted, put the dvd into the drive, and boot up from that. there should be an option there to run disk utility, and then reinstall system software without erasing your hard drive. As for your CD's, I dunno, It could be the former problem, or something else. See if you can find a copy of Tech Tool which may help you. the trial version is free, afaik...
    good luck

  • Power mac g4 Model 8570 won't power on

A few months ago I installed Leopard on my g4 tower and since then I've been having power problems. I realized I pulled the wrong power cord in when I set everything back up, so I figured that waws the problem, thinking it was an issue of not drawing enough power; however, the problem has persisted. It used to be that I'd have to press the power button a couple of times for it to really take, then it was taking longer and longer to make that happen. Now it just won't power on at all. We popped the battery out for a bit, unplugged everything, and then re-assembled it but that didn't work. I keep reading about a pmu button or something, but I don't see anything like that and none of the diagrams on here match my logic board. can any one suggest what I can try? does my model even have a pmu button? I'm not that seasoned at trouble-shooting the hardware so any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks so much, this was incredibly helpful! Unfortunately it didn't fix the problem tho. Is there anything else you would suggest I try before replacing the battery? I want to try all options before having to buy a new battery, and also whatever I can do before having to take it in somewhere (not having a car makes that a difficult task). Thanks again!

  • Power Mac Dual G5 2Ghz won't start up

    Hi,
Last night I was playing a DVD on my dual G5, and the superdrive started to make unusually loud, weird noises. I tried to restart the computer from the apple menu, but it wouldn't. Then I tried to force quit all my apps, but it wouldn't either. So I proceeded to push the power button for 5 secs. and that worked. Now the computer won't start. I tried resseting both the PRAM and the PMU, but it still won't start. All I get is the power light fading in and out, like it's breathing.
Any ideas or suggestions as to what may be going on?
    Thank you ver much,
    Daniel

I have the same problem with a different twist. I was playing a DVD based game last night, logged out to go to bed, then this morning the computer won't wake up, won't reboot, there's no fan or hard drive sounds, but the status light just glows, no flashes. The only way to turn it off was to unplug the system. When I plug the computer back in the light comes back on but it still won't start.
There was a power outage this morning and several over the last few days. Otherwise there were no other changes to my system. The most recent installations were Quake and Age of Empires III (the game referred to above).
    Anyone have any ideas?

  • Mac App Store apps won't update

    Hello,
I am having problems updating apps I've purchased on the mac app store. I've already tried deleting the plist and plist.lock files for com.apple.storeagent and com.apple.appstore in my user library and restarting. I've also tried deleting the cache file for the app store and deleting the app i want to update, but its still a no go.
Is there anything else I can try?
    Best regards
    Jackie

    Hello,
Thanks for your response. I am trying to update Day One. I also tried to update SoundCloud (even though I don't like the updates it has in store for its latest build).
The only indication that anything is happening is a little cog/wheel indicator in the upper left hand corner of the app store window. But that just goes on forever.... nothing ever happens. If I go to the menu and check for "unfinished downloads", the app store says "All purchases have been downloaded for this account."
    Best regards
    Jackie

  • Power Mac G5 1.8GHz won't recognize discs

After nine years, I shelved my workhorse G5 (single processer, 1.8GHz, 4GB RAM, 2x1TB internal drives, eSATA and extra ethernet PCI cards, OS X Server 10.4.11) not becuase it wasn't working well--it was--but because the not-for-profit I work with switched to a cloud-based solution, which makes a huge amount of sense.
After watching it sit in the corner for a month, I decided to put it up on Ebay. And of course, didn't think to test it until it was already posted. I mean, come on! It worked fine last month, right?
    Oops.
It starts up. The monitor goes grey, and then I get the flashing question mark. (Occasionally I get a circle with a line through it, which is new to me.)
It doesn't recognize the internal system drive. It doesn't recognize an external mirrored drive, whether connected to FW400, FW800 or eSATA. It doesn't recognize ANY INSTALL DISK in the optical drive. The question mark flashes on. When I hold down the option key at startup, the wheel spins merrily for a while, then stops, showing just the right arrow and the reload arrow.
It DOES start in target mode; I can boot another computer off of the internal system drive (or the backup, for that matter). So the drives are fine.
Here're the things I've done, in no particular order:
I zapped the PRAM. (Haven't replaced the battery--3.6 volt half-AAs aren't easy to find!)
    I reset the PMU.
I tried to enter safe mode by holding down the shift key. Nope.
    I tried--mostly unsuccessfully--to enter single user mode.
I managed (after much trying) to get into single user mode, and zapped the NVRAM. Should have checked the disks before rebooting, because I haven't been able to get back into single user mode again.
I took out/moved around the PCI cards.
I took out/moved around the eight DIMMs.
I emptied everything out and cleaned it as much as I could.
I moved the system drive to the other bay.
I removed the system drive and tried to boot from the external and the DVD.
    Nothing has worked.
My fear is that the computer has, in the last month, suffered a failure of either the video card or (shudder) the logic board. Or maybe the firmware has gotten corrupted somehow, since the startup sequence seems to be weird. If it's that, however, I can't figure out how to reset it, since I can't seem to get the computer to start in single user mode.
    HELP!

Half height AA PRAM batteries can be found at Radio Shack. The half height AA battery is purple and made by a company called Tandrian. They are more expensive from the Shack.
Here's another online source for the PRAM battery that is much cheaper.

  • My 10.5.8 won't update adobe flash.

I have a macbook 105.8 and have no idea what is wrong, all the sudden my adobe is out of date and I can't view any videos on any of my browsers. I attempted to download the updated versions of adobeflash many times, but it won't download/ work. I don't know macs very well and I just want to be able to view video.

Adobe no longer suports an obsolete OS like 10.5. 10.5 Leopard was based on Power PC code and was written to be able to run on both Power PC and Intel processors. 10.6 Snow Leopard has completely rewritten code and only runs on Intel Macs.
The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is back in the Apple online store. You can now get it for $19.99.  http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard

  • OS X Mavericks won't update Adobe Flash Player

Since I updated my MacBook Pro's OS Mountain Lion to OS X Mavericks I can't update all other third party software specially my Adobe Flash Player. Is there a way how to do it because the moment I click on the "Install Adobe Flash Player" it's just closes and nothing happens. The same ting with other third party softwares.

It would have helped if you had said what version of OS X you are running.
Two bugs, one affecting Apple's Mac platform and another attacking Microsoft's Windows, exploit certain Flash player vulnerabilities to install malware onto users' systems, reports ArsTechnica. While users of other operating systems like Linux have yet to report attacks, Adobe's advisory notes the exploit affects all platforms.
Designated as CVE-2013-0634, the first vulnerability targets the Safari and Firefox Web browsers running on OS X, and is also being used as a trojan to deploy Microsoft Word documents containing malware. For Mac users, the flaw affects Adobe Flash Player version 11.5.502.146 or earlier.
On March 1 Apple again blocked Flash Player for Lion and Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5660
The Adobe Flash patch can be found on Adobe’s website, and users can visit this page to check if their software is the most curent version.
You should uninstall any previous version first, and repair permissions after installing the new version.

  • Mac Pro 5.1 won't start single flashing SIL reapeats

I have a Mac Pro 5.1 2010 quad core 3.2GHZ and 3GB original Apple installed RAM.  Problem is my Mac Pro no longer boots or gives the start up chime. The status indicator light blinks one short blink and repeats and the fans and hard drives spool up but that's it.  I've reseated the RAM chips as well as the processor and RAM daughter board with no change. I've also tried resetting the SMC using the power button method with no change.  I've ordered replacement RAM which I'll swap out once I get it, but if that doesn't work I'm running out of troubleshooting steps.  Anyone have any ideas?  I would really appreciate any assistance.  Thanks, Andy

Thank you. That gave me the idea to get all of the RAM back in the the Mac. It powered up, oddly enough. I hope it's obvious, but I've already tried to turn it on with all of the RAM installed. At any rate, when it finally turned on, it was down from 32 GB to 28 GB. I thought this was an "aha" moment, so I turned it off and pulled out the two bad DIMMs, replaced with 2 new ones and it would not start. Now I thought I would reconfigure the RAM the way "it used to be" with the (4) Samsung DIMMs in slots 1 & 2 (on both risers A & B) and the IBM RAM in slots 3 & 4...
When trying to get the Mac to power up previously I was trying various configs and ended up with: Riser A: IBM slots 1 & 2; Samsung slots 3 & 4; Riser B Samsung slots 1 & 2 and IBM slots 3 & 4. When it was down to 28 GB it was the IBM on Riser B/ 3 & 4 that was down. Well, I went back to this exact config and it powered up after "playing with" the power button...holding it in for various lengths of time until it responded. It did respond after 1-2 tries of say, one 4 sec hold, then another. It did all of this while initially giving me the repetitive pattern of the white light blinking every 4 secs (indicating there was insufficient RAM to start-up). When it did finally start up, it was back up to 32 GB. This is strange because I did nothing to the RAM but pull it out and put it back in and reverted to an older configuration as noted above (which recently resulted in 28 GB of RAM). Thoughts?
