Power Mac DaulCore 2.3 - USER FEEDBACK FOR AUDIO PLEASE?

Hello everyone,
I'm interested in replacing my Powerbook G4 17" 1.33 model for the new Power Mac DualCore 2.3. I plan on using this in a Pro Audio situation.
(I'm not interested in the Quad model, because of the price and the problems other users are having with Pro Tools LE 7 and other audio apps.).
I would be using the DualCore 2.3 with my existing setup, which consists of the Digi 002, External Firewire drives for Audio, Pro Tools LE7, Live 5, Reason 3, etc.
I'd like to get feedback before I purchase the computer and find out how this computer works with Pro Tools ( amount of RTAS plugins, Audio Tracks, speed, performance etc). As well as how the DualCore is working with the other above mentioned programs.
Being that I'm working in a small environment, I would also like to get feedback on how the computer itself is working (fan noise, noise in general, speed, performance etc.).
I know that the computer hasn't been out for that long, but I'd like to get one of the last, so called PowerMacs before Apple switches to Intel.
I'd like to replace my existing computer in the next few months so that I can get to work.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    hi
i m a audio user to i use DP4.6 and logic with 828 and 869hd interfaces, with protools i use the 002 rack version with protools le the machines that i use are a powermac 2.5 quad, powermac dual2.0 and a powerbook 1.5 15" and i never have a problem of any kind except with the protools le and the 002 rack with the quad 2.5 but with the last update and the last drivers i dont have any problem or any big issue to report except of course the bip's ups noise from the g5's but apple never got a solution for that, but dont worry if you want to go for the 2.3 g5 do it, you dont will get any mayor problems.
    good luck

    Hello,
    As far as Browsers...
TenFourFox is the most up to date browser for our PPCs, they even have G4 & G5 optimized versions...
    http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
I'd avoid vesrion 24 though, as it no longer supports plug-ins like Flash.
    http://code.google.com/p/tenfourfox/downloads/list
SeaMonkey seems pretty fast also, with many options...

Might also look into iCab & OmniWeb versions.

Try a #1 SMC Reset and see the Apple links, if that doesn't work make a appointment for a evaluation.

  • Deleted Microsoft User Data for Entourage- please HELP!!

I believe I deleted my Microsoft User Data for Entourage. Is there a way for me to get it back? I thought I backed it all up to my MYBOOK, external hard drive, but apparently It only accepted some of the items in the folder! (and not the User Data one!)
Any way to reverse this or find it after the trash was emptied??
It has ALL of my emails, contacts, saved emails, etc
    PLEASE HELP
    I will be forever grateful!
    vicki

    Basics of File Recovery
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location. OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When you delete files you erase only the directory entries, not the files themselves. However, the space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten with recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

  • User feedback for apps in store

Does Apple check to see if some of the user comments aren't from the developers to hype up an app or game?? If you read some of the comments, some of them clearly look like a comment from the developer. A crap game or app will have super duper rave reviews about all the cool features and real comments that talk about the bugs and the overall use of it hardly ever show up. Its disappointing that you have to waste money only to get tricked into something that could possibly stink.
Apple please start screening comments. Like if a user has only purchased one app or only comments on a certain developers apps. Their comments should be deleted.

    Screen the comments, yhes.
    Delet them, maybe.
What if someone has only purchased a single app or they only have purchased from one developer?

    Hi Kingofmacs,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your MacBook Pro and TV both have HDMI ports, you can use an HDMI cable to connect the two.
This article can help confirm that your MacBook Pro has the necessary HDMI port:

  • I MAC G5 (2005) looking to upgrade for audio/video needs

hi i have had computer for 3 years and just recently it has been on the blink. tried resetting smu , seems to help for a little while. can't handle youtube, call of duty2, garageband, hdvideo06. goes into sleep mode and you hear fan.
i also would like to upgrade this computer the most i can to handle taxing programs like garageband with multiple tracks/fx and video. any info would be great, i know 2g of ram is the most i can add. will that be enough? and what else should i do as well.
    thanks

Welcome to Discussions - going into sleep mode is the sign of overheating, it may be a failing power supply unit. How much free space do you have on your hard drive?
Yes, you can add another 2GB of RAM to your iSight, for a total of 2.5GB, which should be more than enough to run your applications. Try using OnyX to clear your caches and free up some memory. The only upgrade you can make to the computer aside from memory is replacing the dive with a larger one, although opening and working inside an iSight can be very tricky, as well as voiding the warranty.

    I am shocked~

By the time you pay shipping from China it will cost as much or more than purchased in the USA.
    BTW
    I get my G5 cases from 1-800-WE-FIX-MACS via eBay auction and generally pay $50.00 + $40.00 shipping = $90.00

  • HT3096 Someone please help, I'm a broke a$$ college student who needs help with a power Mac G5

Im considering buying a power mac G5 but only cuz its all i can afford and i got an idea about hooking ut up to my tv but i would want to be able to use a wireless keyboard and traction pad but i did some reserch online and found out i need a airport extreme with 2.0  EDR to enable bluetooth which is a requirement for the wireless keyboard. Where can I find the AirPort Extreme with Bluetooth 2.0+EDR card? There dosent seem to be any place online that sells it and lets say I do install the airport extreme card and enable wifi on a power Mac G5, will I be able to use a apple wireless keyboard with it? And just a side question, for the age of the computer what OS should I have installed, I'm not to femilliar with apple software, the only apple products I have are old iPods n a 4s. Oh and I would mainly use it for going online, a little bit of vid editing, watching YouTube vids, homework and uploading and listing to music, I would love to wirelessly sync my iPhone to the power Mac wirelessly.

  • I've got a 10.5.8 power mac G5 but would like to upgrade to new software, lion and office 2011, but that requires an intel processor. Is this a lost cause? If not any ideas what it might cost me?

Okay looks like I didn't understand the format for these questions. I have used my Mac BookPro almost exclusively for work and my Power Mac for my home recording studio but now want the Power Mac to be a second computer for my work. So I need to upgrade to Lion and install office 2011. So, considering my subject line, any help offered is appreciated.
    Thanks.

The max OS for all Macs with a PowerPC processor is Leopard OS 10.5.x.
If you are going to consider getting a newer, but used, Mac, here's the requirements for Lion.
    Lion 10.7 System Requirements
        •    Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor (most models released since late 2006 - early Intel-based Macs with Core Solo or Core Duo processors aren't compatible)
        •    2GB of memory (recommend at least 4GB -- and ideally even more, as you'll see benefits in many computing tasks)
        •    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended) for Lion download from Apple App Store; or Leopard 10.5.x if using Lion on USB drive
        •    7GB of available space (10GB recommended)
     Cheers, Tom

  • Power Mac G5 Dies in its Sleep

I have a 2.3 GHz dual-processor Power Mac G5 purchased in December (**** Apple for introducing the Mac Pro so soon!).
I use Software Update to keep the system and its software current. Since the Mac OS X 10.4.7 update, my system will, periodically, die in its sleep, i.e. striking return on the keyboard does not bring up the login panel. The red light that illuminates when the system is turned on or awakes from sleep is visible through the grill when return is struck but the system remains unresponsive.
When this occurs, I have to depress the power button on the front of the chassis for a few seconds to power down the system. I then need to depress the power button a second time to reboot the system.
No new entries have been added to the panic.log since the upgrade to Mac OS X 10.4.6 in April.

I encountered the same problem, first with another G5 where the fan would blow at high speeds and then crash. Afetr replacing the logic board and RAM, Apple replaced the unit. The new G5 purchased 2 weeks ago, when asleep was not able to be awakened from. I went through everything including reintiallizing the hard drive and bringing the computer back to Apple. They ran the computer and had no problems over 48 hours. When I spoke to one of the technical advisors at Apple, they found that there was a Kernel panic related to a USB device. I had disconnected all the USB devices prior to this time but realized that my Apple 23" monitor was connected to the USB and firwire ports. When I disconnected them, the problems stopped. My Powerbook laptop which is running the OS prior to the latest software upgrade does not have the problem. The problem has now been sent to the engineers at Apple and hopefully they will find a fix. I was uncertain if the problem was with the G5 or the latest software update but it sounds like you found the culprit.
    Good Luck

  • Power Mac G4 got moisture in it. Now it won't power on. What could of been damaged?Help!

I recently had my Power Mac G4 in my trunk and for some reason, there was moisture on the outside of the tower. Now it will not power on. There was no moisture on the motherboard but just around the power section. Could I have damaged anything else? Where should I start troubleshooting at? Is the hard drive damaged as well? Help.......

The area that is most vulnerable is also the area you can't easily see: the underside of the logic board where most solder connections are made. It would be easy for water droplets to condense on and around some of the projecting connectors. If a drop carried across two or more connectors and you turn it on....
I'm not too worried about the hard drive; they are usually well sealed against moisture.
It possible that the act of powering up the computer did damage. Normally, when one knows the computer is damp, you wait several days with the computer in a dry place to allow time for all moisture to escape.
I'd let it dry out completely before turning it on again. That might help as long as the first attempt to poweru pdidn;t fry something taht was damp. Once you get it going, see if there is a red light on the logic board. That tells you the power supply is working. As the PS is pretty open to the environment and has high voltage, hopefully if anything did fry, it's the replaceable, rebuildable PS.

  • 24"LED and a Power Mac G5

Is it possible to connect a 24" LED display to my Power Mac G5?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Is it possible to connect a 24" LED display to my Power Mac G5?
Not at this time. A computer needs to have a Mini DisplayPort to use that display, and no cards are available to add that capability to a Power Mac G5.
