Power Mac G4 can install OS 10.3.5 ?

My Power Mac G4 original OS is 10.1.2, can I upgrade it to OS 10.3.5 ?

Identify which PowerMac G4 you have here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58418
Then if necessary, boot into Mac OS 9 via Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Startup Disk and run the firmware update for the appropriate PowerMac G4 here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117
Once the firmware is updated, backup your data as my FAQ explains:
http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
And then you may be able to Archive and Install the retail version of 10.3 or 10.4. See these precautions before upgrading that I've written:
http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html
The Archive and Install procedure is here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120 for 10.3
and here for 10.4:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301270
Not everyone has succeeded archiving and installing from Puma (10.1) to Panther (10.3), or Jaguar (10.2) to Tiger (10.4), but it may be possible to do a two version upgrade with Archive and Install assuming your system is properly setup according to my upgrade FAQ. I've not done it myself. In the worst case scenario you may have to erase and install, and restore from your backup with the migration/setup assistant.

  • My Power Mac G5 Wont Install OS X 10.5 Leopard

    Hey Guys,
I have a Power Mac G5 that wont install leopard. When I put in the Leopard disk, it boots the install, then says OS X 10.5 can not be installed on this machine.
I tried Leopard assist, but that told me it would not let me use it, becuse Leopard should be able to install on this machine.
    Any ideas
    Thanks

  • Error U44M1I210 - None of the NEW Mac's can install the latest updates Adobe CC is pushing out.

    Here is the problem:
I have 3 new Macs (iMac, MacBookPro, Mac Pro trash can)
All 3 do have adobe CC installed with programs working at the moment.
However with the most recent updates to Premiere, AE, Photoshop and Media Encoder that Adobe CC is pushing out, none of the computers can update to them.
    Receiving Error code U44M1I210
    Here is a system spec:
    For the Mac Pro, OSX 10.9.3 - 64GB Ram - 2.7GHz 12-core Xeon E5
    What I have tried:
I have tried to do the updates from work, over wireless, and wired.
    From Home wireless.
    And from a Hotel wireless.
Older MacPros running CC but limited to CS6 Apps only, DO update over the same network as the Mac's that can not.
    Strange? yes!
Why I think Adobe has made some type of coding mistake with New Apple Products:
All 3 computers could not install these recent updates, but could install CC originally (about a month prior to the updates), and made made other small updates prior to this as well.
The various locations I have tried to connect from have all failed, so I doubt it is a firewall issue.
Adobe's Help line, had took control of my Mac Pro for about 2 hrs and could not figure out why it would not update.
    They uninstalled, reinstalled, the works...
The issues has now been in limbo for a week.
Will I ever be able to make an update to CC on any of my machines?
Since we are paying a lot of money for Adobe's services, and have paid a lot of money for these new computers, that is my question.
    Thanks

    Thanks Jeff,
However when the Adobe tech support person took control of my Mac Pro, this was one of the processes they tried that failed to produce results.
They reviewed the log files as well.
The downloads would fail after they reached 50%.
What does seem to be working for me, at least for Premiere and Media Encoder is manually installing the updates from this site:
All Adobe CC 2014 Updates: The Direct Download Links for Mac OS | ProDesignTools

  • Power Mac g5 wont install Leopard

i had gotten the computer used amd im locked out of it because i dont have the password.
I put the leopard disk into the computer and restart it while holding c. the computer will start up then go to a blank grey screen and will not go any further. i tried holding the alt option key and clicking on the install disk but i end up on the same screen.. why is this happening? howdo i install leopard on to the computer?

Where did you get the Leopard DVD? Does it have a gray label? If so it's an OEM disc that may be for another model, and it will not work on the one you have. Or it's possible the disc itself is damaged or defective or the optical drive is not functioning properly. And you can't dismiss the possibility the computer has a hardware problem or lacks the minimal RAM required for Leopard - 5121 MBs.

  • Power Mac G5 "can not be fixed"??

Ok. Apple Store Techs says my PowerMac G5 Quad "can't be repaired". "Parts too expensive" or "Parts can't be found."  or "Not worth repairing", etc. No back up because I couldn't find software for my old workhorse, so several questions that are burning in my appalled brain. First, my content definitely makes it worth repairing. So, any ideas on where I can personally search the parts if I find out what they need? Or should I try an older tech who might not be as dismissive of my "door stop"? Or can my one terrabyte second hard-drive be pulled and saved? I used it as storage. And finally, can the content of my regular HD be saved to another HD? Just a few little questions for the brilliant and intrepid among you. And I know you are out there, so no hiding!
    Perhaps naively hopeful, Kate

Translation:  "We don't want to be bothered repairing a product that would keep you from buying our latest new products."
That's just the way it is.  Now, we need to know some more specific information to help your navigating this mess.  What general geographical location are you in?  What seemed to be the problems with the machine  (it may actually be something relatively simple)?
Now, as to hard drives, you can certainly pull those SATA drives and read them elsewhere in other Apple machines.  You can also purchase a used machine, drop in the drives and possibly your video card and RAM and be on your way just fine.  Or you can find an independent repair source (there are a few that will probably be recommended once your locale is known) who could get you through this situation.  What you probably can't rely on is much help from the genius bar on these older machines; that's why we have this community of dinosaurs here ready to help.

  • Power Mac G5 wont install 10.5 on new hard drive

I recently got a Pmac g5 from my uncle. His hard drive died and he had no further use for it. I bought a new drive and have a disk for Leopard, but when I try to load from the disk it doesnt seem to work. it just defaults back to the ? folder. The disk works because it loads fine on my G3 iMac, and I dont know how to check to see if the hard drive is recognized (250 GB Maxor formatted for this computer). I've reset PRAM and all that stuff, but with no luck. Any help as to why it wont work?

Well Option Boot won't see the Hard Drive ubtil we fornat it HFS+, but whyit isn't seeing the Install Disc is our problem.
    Does the G3 iMac haveFirewire?
If so wee could use the G3's Optical drive with the G3 in Target Mode, & Option Boot the G5.

  • Power Mac G4 shows only screensaver image; won't read disks

My Power Mac G4 will no longer show the finder or any of my folders. It boots beyond the grey and blue screens to show a screensaver I'd chosen earlier, but doesn't show the finder or any of my folders. It will not read any of its original install disks, nor read the OS X Panther disks.
I don't know if its versions are current. It has no internet card, which has not been a problem until now as I also use a G5 that's on a cable modem.
I got this computer second-hand. It came with these disks:
Apple Hardware Test (Power Mac G4)
    Power Mac G4 Software Install
    Power Mac G4 Software Restore
    Power Mac G4 Developer Tools
Mac OS X Panther Install Disks 1, 2 and 3
I have tried installing them all from the screensaver mode, as well as from CD mode. Nothing has been forthcoming. Is my data still present? Does the OS X need to be installed, or has the system just stalled in the booting? I've rebooted a dozen or more times while working with the disks. Since I'm getting beyond the grey and blue screens, is this a sign of life?

    Hi t_orzechowski!
Have you found a resolution yet?
Have you ever run Repair Disk?
THESE ARE THE STEPS FOR USING DISK UTILITY TO REPAIR YOUR HD
1.Insert the System Install disk, Mac OS X CD-ROM disk, or Restore DVD disk, then restart the computer while holding the C key. Use the System disk, of the OS, that is currently installed.
2.Once started up from CD or DVD, on the Menubar at the top of the screen, choose Disk Utility from the Installer contextual menu.
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from disc to access Disk Utility.
    3.Click the First Aid tab.
4.Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5.Select your Mac OS X volume, if necessary.
6.Click Repair. If DU reports errors it has fixed, re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported.
7.Repeat steps 5 & 6, but select the Hard Drive this time. It's usually the first listed with the manufacturer's model number. Make note of the S.M.A.R.T. status.
8.When finished, select Quit Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
9.Select Quit Installer from the Installer menu.
10.In the resulting pop-up window, choose restart.
11.After the computer has restarted, you can eject the CD.

  • Will Power Mac 6500 HD fit/connect in G4 MDD?

Is it possible that the internal HD of my Power Mac 6500 can be installed into my G4 Mirrored Drive Door desktop? Are the physical size/mountings and cable connector(s) compatible? Anything else I need to consider?
    Thanks.

    Thanks Limnos...
I'll check the support documents you provided links to.
    and thanks Jeff...
It's a little of both. I want to keep many of the files that are on the 6500's drive, and use it for extra storage, but I do realize the capacity may be quite low. There are already two 80GB drives in the G4: one bootable by Tiger 10.4.11 and the other by Panther 10.3.5. I'm guessing the G4 won't run on OS 8.6, which is what the 6500's drive has, so I'll remove the OS from that drive to free up a little extra space.
    Thanks again to you both.

  • Trying to buy OS X Tiger for my Power Mac

I no longer have my installation CD for my Power Mac G3. Can I just buy an OS X 10 CD from ebay and use it to wipe out and re-install the OS on my computer? It says it is once licence, how do I know it hasn't already been used?

If this is the Blue and White G3 tower, before installing OS X 10.4 Tiger, you need to run a Firmware update for this Mac. Not sure how to locate this for you on Apple's website because any older links to the firmware updated software no longer work.
    You need this firmware update.
PM G3 (Blue and White) Firmware Update 1.1
IF your PowerMac G3 is a beige G3, the highest OS X version you can install without special helper software is OS X 10.2 Jaguar.
OS X 10.3 Panther can be installed with the help of this app. OS X 10.3.9 Panther is really, real world end of line for OS X versions to be installed. OS X 10.4 Tiger will not work with beige color PowerMac G3 models.

    Hello,
You need to put the Tiger Install Disc in the 2011 iMac, boot the 2011 uMac into Target mode...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
Boot the G4 holding the Option or alt key, hopefully the Install Disc in the 2011 iMac will show as a boot choice.
We just want to use the 2011 iMac as a big expensive FW Optical drive, it cannot be installed osing the 2011 iMac itself.

  • How can I install Tiger upgrade on Power Mac G5?

I have PowerMac G5 with OSX 3.9. I bought retail disk of Tiger but it will not install as upgrade. It goes past the restart process but stops shortly after installation begins with message telling me that installation failed. I originally bought Leopard and encountered same problem and then bought Tiger thinking that I might need to upgrade to that first. Here are the specs for my computer:

    CPU Speed: 1.6 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB

    Vendor: nVIDIA (0x10de)

    Hi Mobe!
Is the disc the Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, that does not say Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." on it?
If not, you can order the correct Tiger 10.4.x installer from Apple Phone Sales 1-800-692-7753, for $129.00.
That model of PowerMac G5 should also support the Leopard System Requirements, if you use a Full Retail Version of the Leopard DVD.
The Full Retail Version, of the Leopard Install DVD, can be purchased at The Apple Store (U.S.).

  • Can I install Adobe InDesign CS5 on a Power Mac G5 running OS 10.5.8?

Can I install Adobe InDesign CS5 on a Power Mac G5 running OS 10.5.8?

first thing to try is reset InDesign:
delete the preference file located here:
    system > users > home folder > library > peferences > com.adobe.InDesign.plist
    then repair the hard drive:
    shut down the Mac
restart - then press shift key immediately after the chime
keep pressing shift untill the Apple logo appears
let the Mac boot to the desktop - it will take longer to boot as it is repairing the hard drive
when desktop appears, restart the Mac normally
