  • My iPhone 4 will randomly shut off, it goes the apple symbol and then restart from there

Any ideas??? I reset it and it didn't help. I really don't wanna take it to the apple store because it is almost 4 hours away and I don't have the money for a new one. It's not under warranty but it's really annoying....:/

    Hello Kimbo1991,
It sounds like your phone is not successfully booting even though you have reset the device. I would next recommend attempting a backup and restore to iTunes with this article:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
If you are unable to restore with iTunes I would next put the device into recovery mode, and attempt the restore again:

Hi my friend gave me his iphone 1 today and its stuck at the apple boot logo. Some times it automatically shuts off but about a second later is comes back on. The home button and the power button seem to not be responsive. Thanks for the help.

You bought a used iPhone. Amazon is not an authorized supplier of iPhones, nor are any of the 3rd parties that sell iPhones there.
You can make an appointment at the genius bar and have it looked at.
If you are very very lucky, it is still under warranty and it wasn't opened or otherwise tampered with before you bought it. In which case, Apple will replace it under warranty.
If it's not under warranty, they will replace it for $199.
If it has been opened or tampered with, they won't touch it.

This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.

  • Gen. 2 iPod Touch is stuck on Apple Boot Logo after Resetting Data/Settings

My iPod Touch hadn't been getting recognized by iTunes and my music wouldn't sync onto it so I went into the Settings app and clicked Reset Data & Settings (the 4 hour long reset) and waited while the bar slowly moved until it finally restarted and showed the Apple Boot Logo. I then waited for about 20-30 minutes for my iPod to turn on and it never did, so I reset it by holding the Power+Home button and that didn't do anything as it was still stuck on the Apple Boot Logo. Then I remembered I could have just put my iPod into DFU or Recovery mode to get iTunes to recognize it to reset it, so i tried to put my iPod into both modes and it wouldn't go into them. So I went to bed and just woke up and it's still stuck. I'm afraid I might have bricked my iPod, and I'm out of my warranty I believe. Does anyone know ANYTHING I could try? I don't care about data loss seeing as I already tried resetting the whole thing.

If it is still doing it after a restore, you most likely have a hardware issue.

  • Please Help stuck on apple boot logo

I am stucked at the apple boot logo and i can't disable filevalut to go in safe mode. When i've pressed cmd p r and went in utility disk it seems that i have free on the macintosh hd only 16.3 MB so i have to go in safe mode to delete some files and reboot the system. Anyone can help me?

I can't help, I'm afraid. My suggestion is that you re-post your message with a different title, including that you cannot get into Safe Mode. It would also be good to include the year and model (e.g., Mid-2010 MacBook Pro) so folks know more about what you are dealing with.
One thought I have is to replace your hard drive with a larger one, install your original OS X on that new HDD and arrange to access your current drive via USB so you can get the files off of it.  But there may be another way -- though you clearly need a larger hard drive in your computer.

My Power Mac G5 will not fully boot without safe mode, it only comes to a blue screen where my cursor duplicates in to 2, (one is frozen, one can move by moving the mouse). What is my problem, and how do I fix it?

    Great clue Lukas...
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Power mac G4 450 won't boot past grey apple

I took trusty old Power Mac G4 450 (PCI graphics) apart for a week to paint the office. I put everything back together as before including a lot of old SCSI peripherals, but when I start it up, the fans run, i get the chimes, but it will not boot past the apple on the grey screen. I tried a safe boot, disconnecting everything but monitor & keyboard, & resetting the pram. The battery was replaced about 8 months ago. It had been freezing a lot before this, & I considered replacing it, but all I need it for is to run an old SCSI flat bed scanner that I'd like to hang on to. Any ideas?

    Hi-
Will it boot to the OS X install disc?
If so, use Disk Utility to "Repair Disk" on the start up volume.

  • Apple Boot Logo goes garbled for a brief second during boot

    Hello,
Over the past few weeks I've been having nothing but issues with the software as well as the now existing boot logo that garbles itself up. I have a picture to show the issue. http://i.imgur.com/RRzMpen.jpg
This is a MacBook Pro Retina that's over a month old.
Anyone recommend me a suggestion to fix it without having it being serviced? I've reinstalled it twice and tried resetting the PRAM, SMC and reinstalling OSX and nothing worked. Everything is on it's latest version, and it started only today.

I think you have done it all.  It is time to use that warranty that you have paid for.  You may take advantage of the telephone support but I suspect a visit to the genius bar will be in order.
    Ciao.
Bring your image documentation with you just in case the MBP does not replicate the phenomenon at the genius bar.

  • Power Mac G5 frozen at Apple Screen

I have a 2005 G5 PowerMac. It has been locking up lately. Tonight it will not boot. Everytime I turn it on I get to the apple screen and the circle keeps going round and round. I then followed the directions to reset the PMU and I disconnected the second hard drive. Now it will still not boot and gets to the apple screen, circles a couple of times then locks up. I have disconnected everything except the monitor, keyboard and mouse and still have the same problem. The largest issue is the CD drive will not open so I cannot attempt to reload the OS or anything else that requires the CD drive. I do not know if there is a manual way to open the drive. I have searched the help forums and only see the keyboard as an option.
I have read many posts that the 9800 video card is a problem - we have an ATI 800 XT and I have not read anything hear about that card being an issue.
Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.

Hi, and a Warm Welcome to Apple Discussions and the Power Mac G5 Forum!
Well - you may be able to get the drive to open if you hold down the (wired) mouse button at Startup - failing that you can open it manually: with the G5 Shutdown, slide down the silver optical drive gate and insert a strong, straightened paper clip in the emergency eject hole shown in Figure 3 here (you don't have to remove the drive)(it is a mechanical release, so you will have to slide the tray out by hand)
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=88215
Alternative positions for the emergency eject hole are shown in Figure 4.
NB The link is just to illustrate the positions of the emergency eject hole - Ignore the 'G4' bit, removing the drive, etc.
If you can then boot from the 10.5 retail DVD, you could run Disk Utility > Verify Disk on the boot drive - and run Repair Disk, if problems are found. The 10.4 instructions are here - principle is the same for 10.5
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=DiskUtility/10.5/en/duh1018.html
Personally I would not run anything other than the OS X 10.5 Disk Utility on a 10.5 boot drive - i.e. not the Disk Utility on the System Disk(s) that came with the G5.
The X800 here is also working ok with 10.5
Please post again if you have questions. Good Luck.

  • Power Mac G4 (MDD) Won't Boot, Gives Error Screen "You need to restart..."

Hey guys, I got this Power Mac G4 (Dual 1.42GHz, 2GB Ram) from a neighbor about 3 weeks ago and it has been smooth sailing since I got it. However today my brother was using it, and got the rainbow loading mouse for a long time, nothing would open, I couldn't force quit any of the programs. So I just told him to hold the power button and restart. Well on reboot you hear the tone, then the Apple Logo appears then the screen shows up and says "You need to restart your computer..."
It happens no matter how many times I restart my computer. I've reset the RAM and the PRAM but it does the same thing. Any suggestions?

Oh man, I'm so confused now. I don't know what could have happened.
I put in my Leopard Disc (that I got with my MBP) and booted it from disc, and it said I couldn't install 10.5 because 10.4 or later couldn't be found. That *****, could it be because I was running 10.5.4 and maybe it doesn't recognize it because 10.5.4 came out after this disc was made?
Also, since there are 3 hard drives, I don't know which one I have Leopard on, it's one of the 120gbs, but since this is handed down I don't know which drive is which and I don't know how to take the hard-drives out from the bracket, is there instructions for removing/installing hard drives.
Once again, I appreciate the support, you guys really are helping me!
EDIT: I talked to the guy who gave me this computer, he said that there was a problem with the battery, he said he replaced it about a year ago. Do you think that the battery could be a culprit in this problem?

  • Mac OS X won't boot, logo doesn't even show! Cannot reinstall OS X

I'm really frustrated. I'm logging in from Bootcamp Windows.
First, I formatted my Hard Disk yesterday, and I accidentally erased the bootcamp partition without using Bootcamp assistant, so the "free space" partition was created. I formatted the Mac OS X side reinstalled Mavericks and everything was working perfectly. Next, I wanted to install Parallels 7, using the Bootcamp partition that I wanted to reclaim. So I created another windows partition and unistalled using the Bootcamp assistant, and the free space was merged with OSX hard disk this time. So things seemed to be perfect. The Mac OS X hdd had all its original volume.
Second, this is where everything turned haywire. Because I needed to use Revit and Rhino on a larger partition, I had to install Windows again, creating a 115 GB partitiod. I used BC assistant. It installed Windows fine, but on restarting, Mac OS X did not boot. It didn't even show up as a disk when I hit the ALT key. But when I checked Disk Utility in Recovery mode, the disk was showing up fine. So I decided to reformat it again - erasing the contents and tried installing Mountain Lion, which was the only option I had using Internet recovery. The installation did not work! It said, the recovery system from the main volume was missing, or something like that.
Third, I tried to restore from Time Machine. Now, it boots, and the apple logo shows up, but then after a few seconds, the logo is replaced by a (X) sign instead, and nothing shows up. I'm so afraid my computer is permanently damaged, can somebody please tell me how to fix this? I have loads of assignments due this week, I'm about to cry

You may need another Mac so you can boot up into target disk mode. Some how you need to get that software off. You may need those OS installer disks. Are you near an Apple store or AASP? By the way it is perfectly legal to make a copy of your OS installer disk to take with you when you travel. Never leave home without it.

  • How to make an ipod classic get off the apple boot logo when the menu an center button still don't work

i tryed to connect my ipod classic to my computer an every time i do it will start flikering an when i conected it to a wall plug it just get stuck on the boot logo it had the the red x but i fix that but now its just stuck on the boot logo i need my ipod please tell me what i need to do pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeee

The big Red X is a sign of iPod undertaker coming, so you only have temporary extension and put it in Comatose state.
Some laptops have only one high power USB 2.0 port, so if it flickers, try the others on your laptop.
However try the following, (bear with me if you have done all these.)
Toggle the hold switch, make sure you don't see the red marking.
Press Menu and Center butoons for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON, then release the buttons.
If the above solve the frozen Apple Logo, then do a Disk Diagnostics, read this earlier post from tt2.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/17028567#17028567
Don't worry if yours is Windows, the process apply to the iPod and not the PC.
    Good Luck
