Power Mac won't turn on
I have a Power Mac G4 that will not start. The power button lights then goes out after a second. Checked lithium battery voltage, it was fine. Reset PMU on motherboard as well. Any ideas?
Make sure you disconnect all peripherals, even the keyboard and mouse (but leave the display connected), when you press the power button. I've had a faulty USB device that interfered with startup before.
If the power cord is connected to a power strip (surge suppressor) of some type, try it connected directly to a wall outlet, by itself.
It could be a faulty power supply. Is the behavior any different, if you disconnect the Mac from power for about 15 minutes, then try again?

My mac won't turn on and I want to try and back up my files in case it needs to be reformatted. Is this possible if it won't turn on?
See this Apple note on systems that won't power up. If the system won't power on, the only way to backup your files is to remove the hard drive from the system, and either put it into a case or attach a cable so another system can read it.

Installed Yosemite...Mac won't turn off.
Installed yosemite, now my mac won’t turn off completely. All apps are off. After choosing shut down, It doesn’t shut the white light. It looks like it’s in power down mode. But nothing will turn it back on except having to hold down the power button to completely turn it off in Yosemite. then pressing it again to turn it back on. Help!!!!

today my mac won't turn on at all...the light at the front is remaining on and at a constant brightness however the screen is still black! I'm not sure what to do next?
If you can log in blindly or using the flashlight method, it is possible your screen brightness somehow got set all the way to nothing. I don't have my Macbook with me right now to test it out but I believe it may not be possible to adjust the brightness at the log-in screen so you have to be able to log in first (though I could be wrong on that).

My Mac won't turn on
Pull your hard drives.
Put in your OEM DVD
Hold down the letter d on startup and run Apple Hardware Test
Put in your latest OS X DVD and hold c
Does it do both.
Oh, and Reset SMC.

And make sure you have backups, bootable backups, and just WHAT version OS X?? what update(s)?

G5 Power Mac will not turn on.
I have a G5 dual 1.8, one of the earlier models, and I'm guessing the ram restart thing will not work on it. I was just using Safari, and the computer completely shut down, since then, I have not been able to turn it back on, I've tried using a different power cord, and I'm wondering if replacing the power supply will be my best bet.
Message was edited by: Brian HoisingtonHi, and a Warm Welcome to Apple Discussions and the Power Mac G5 Forum!
Well - if you have checked that the mains power right up to the G5 is definitely good (and have waggled the plug in the socket at the back of the G5, for good luck) - you could try resetting the PMU/SMU
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300341
but, if you do not get a 'relay-click' from the PSU, low-down at the back of the G5, when you first connect the mains power, it probably won't help.
There is a rather gloomy symptom chart (at page 104 in Preview) here - and also instructions.
If you wish to take a gamble on it being the PSU that's the cause, they may be available here

My son removed the RAM from his Power Mac to give me the amount. He used canned air to blow out the dust. When he put the RAM back in, the computer won't start up. We have power, the fan starts, then you can see a little light by the RAM flash and a small beep. I have ordered new RAM. IS there anything else that may be wrong??
One of the dimm modules may be your problem. Turn your power off and eject two of the dimms and leave one seated. You don't have to take the two that are ejected out of the ejector tabs, just make sure they are not seated in the socket in the locked postition. Power up and listen for startup chime. If you get a chime, power down. Push down one of the ejected dimms and make sure it's seated. You'll now have two dimm's engaged. Power up and listen for chime. If you get one, go through the routine again powering down and trying it out with all dimms seated. Depending on which dimm is bad, you'll get no chime if it is seated. If you get no chime when any dimm seated, then you have something seriously wrong with your motherboard or you have something hanging out of the buss when it should be in (for example, an AGP card loose in its socket).

HELP, My MAC won't turn ON
My computer won't turn on. When you hit the power button you can hear the fans turn on but thats about it. This has happened in the past, it's not turned on for about 3 days but then all of sudden it starts working again. Its been about 5 days now and I'm starting to get worried. I hear the fans running but thats it, I can't eject the CD tray and I can't see any video. What should I do??
iMac g4 Mac OS X (10.4.5)CDiddyHustle,
Welcome to Apple Discussions, Sorry about the circumstances!
To help identify what's at fault could you please post back with the following details:
Do you get the Start-Up chime?
Does the Optical Mouse light up/Caps Lock light come on or off?
If you shine a torch at the display and look closely can you see any images?
If you have a VGA display adaptor - can you see any display if you plug it in to your TV or similar.
If you reset the PRAM - hold down the <apple>
<r><alt>keys in during start-up until you hear the computer appear to restart.
If you hold down the mouse button during start-up does the CD tray open?
Was the computer showing any other symptoms recently - dimming display, Kernel panics, poor USB connections, grinding noises in the hard disk?
Do you have a clean electrical supply in your part of the world?

Turn on! My mac won't turn on after sleeping!
Ever had a problem where your computer won't turn on after sleeping for a few minutes? (I've discovered that too many downloads cause this) Anyway... have you ever tried pushing the power button for one second? Try it! It's been working for me! Hope this helped!
(If it still won't turn on, try typing in letters randomly for one minute. Just type anything like: asdjhas)Try resetting the SMC and PRAM

Power Mac G4 not turning on after clean shutdown, works otherwise.
My Power Mac G4 does not turn back on after a clean shutdown, but turns on after being disconnected from the power. If I shut it down cleanly (Apple menu -> Shutdown), it shuts down, but then the power button does not work. After unplugging the computer and plugging it back in, the computer is able to power on successfully. I have reset the PRAM and have reseated the PSU connector.
I am using Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11, but the same problem occurs under Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.8. I don't think the operating system really matters with this type of issue though, because the power button literally will not respond until I unplug and replug the computer.
Any suggestions?
