Power Management not working

I was having trouble with my Power Management settings not working. When running on the Power Adapter, my computer would stay awake with the screen on indefinitely, and when running on the Battery, it would shut off the screen after 1 minute and sleep after 5 minutes. The problem showed up when I would change the sliders in the Energy Saver window only to watch them go right back where they were after about 10 seconds. Obviously the lock was unlocked, but I was unable to change the settings no matter what I tried.
The solution came when I checked the Power Management preferences file located in the pref file at /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
I brought up the information for the plist file and noticed that under Sharing & Permissions the Admin account was missing. I added Administrators to the permissions list and voila! The Energy Management panel began working again!
Problem solved and I hope this helps anyone else out there as I seemed to be the only one having this problem.

Hey Chad - Thanks for this tip - I checked in both my user library and the system library and couldn't find either the plist doc or the System Configuration folder. I'm having trouble with energy saver since the latest OS X update and wondering if they've blitzed it somehow!
Any ideas?

  • SCCM 2012 - Power Management Not Working (PC's wont sleep)

    Hi,
I have a Device Collection to test Power Management policy on some desktops. The power management policy has been configured on the device collection to sleep a machine after 20 mins at 6pm.  Have configured the Client Settings to enable this feature
but its not working - anyone able to help please??
Weird thing is, about 6 months ago I was testing this on a few computers and it worked perfectly, now we want to test again - its all not working!
Below is the pwrmgmt.log file - doesnt seem to be saying much.

Any Group Policies for Power Options?
Also, you need to make sure the Power Plan in Power Option on the computers is what exactly you set in SCCM. If it is, check the power reqests by powercfg /requests command.

  • Lenovo b590 power management not working

Hello! I have a problem with my laptop, a lenovo b590. (pentium 2020m, 4gb ram, intel hd graphics): the Lenovo Power Management driver not working....
Is exactly the same as here, but, the only difference is that I use windows 8.1:
    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Essential/Lenovo-B590-Lenovo-Power-Management-driver-no...
As no one could solve the problem there, I thought it may be more visible now and someone can help me
So, how can I solve this problem?
Edit: I tried everything that was said there, to no avail ...
    Sorry for my english..

i'm not sure if there's any suitable cooling pads for your computer but cleaning the fan could be another solution. it may work but it may also void your warranty.
due to it's probably hardware issue, at this point i don't think i have much suggestions for you.

    Hi!
On my t430s I can't get the Thinkvantag Power Manager working. Was someone succesful with this?
    Thanks!

    "Erm...how do I do that??"
Install Power Management driver. Download Lenovo Power Manager for Windows7 to desktop or wherever you want.
Right click the file > Properties > Compatibility > Windows7. Haven't tried it myself but it appears people with Windows
    8 say that it's working.

  • SOLUTION: WMM power management not working with Realtek Wifi drivers (W8.1x64)

I'm posting this solution for anybody who might want a fix for this.
if you run powercfg.exe -energy in Windows 8.1 and view the report it makes, you will see a warning in the log that says:
"Wireless Access Point does not support WMM Powersave mode"
I do not see this warning on another laptop I have (Samsung) which uses an Intel 6230 wifi card.  So I did some digging.
At first, I thought it was the router (ASUS RT-AC68P)  but realized that WMM was enabled on the router.  Since the Samsung notebook didn't have the problem it was obviously driver related.
Unfortunately the drivers supplied by HP and the drivers avaialble as part of "Windows Update" from MS don't address the problem.  Even if you change advanced settings for the wificard from "Performance" to "Wireless" the warning persists.
I wound up doing a clean install of W8.1 Update 1 to rid my PC of bloatware, and in the process fixed the issue with "Wireless Access Point does not support WMM Powersave mode"
The default inbox drives from Microsoft work correctly and allow the router to put the wifi card to sleep when no packets are being transmitted
Recently I went to Windows update and noticed there was an updated driver - I downloded it and the problem came back.
I went to device manager, double clicked the wifi card, went to the driver tab, and selected 'rollback driver'.
    Problem is resolved again.
Went back to Windows Update and it showed the realtek driver in the optional tab again - right click on it and "hide update".
    Solved.
I have noticed no issues with wifi speeds, but I think the battery *is* lasting longer (only tested for a few days); not by much, but a little.  Wifi speeds are top-notch, no buffering or latency issues with any web streaming or downloading

I doubt it but there's always a possibility of a bad card.  I assume that you've tried multiple routers?  Gone to starbucks and same thing?  See if when you uninstall the drivers if windows will automatically find a driver and give that a shot.  Off hand I can't think of any software related issues with the Wifi as mine has worked fine since day one.

  • Password Manager not working with any internet browsers

I have Thinkvantage password manager installed (v. 3.20.0311.00) on my Thinkpad X201. I am running Windows 7 professional, 64 bit. Password Manager works for all programs except IE8 or Mozilla Firefox (eg. works for Outlook, works for iTunes, etc.). When browsing, the program simply never pops up. It worked previously, and I still have many saved website login details, but it never logs in for me any more and new sites do not activate the program.
I have made sure that the add-on is enabled and I have checked the box next to "enable 3rd party browser extensions" in the advanced tab of internet options. I have also tried resetting internet explorer settings. As mentioned above, this in not only a problem with IE8; it also occurs with Firefox.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

  • Power button not working with 7.1 update

Power button not working with 7.1 update

I take it your phone was still under warranty then?!
Unfortunately I was not so lucky, and my experience was rather poor service-wise. They're called Apple Geniuses but I beg to differ...
I'm not sure where in the world you are located, but my "experience" involved visiting the Leeds store and confusing everyone with this issue. I can tell you, just by the looks on their faces, they had never been faced with this problem before!
I suggested my phone was rolled back to the version it was previously to establish whether this was the underlying issue. I was asked whether my phone had been backed up and as it had the "genius" proceeded to restore the phone "as it came out of the factory" to quote him.
When this was completed the phone was still doing the same thing and I was advised "the software update must have highlighted a hardware issue." I was told it would have to be physically repaired and was told to have this done by a third party as Apple would charge approximately £160. Incidentally, I work in IT and repair PC's, laptops and mobile devices for a living and made a point of raising that a sleep/wake button ribbon cable for an iPhone 4S can be bought on eBay for as little as £3.00...if indeed it does need replacing, which I suspect it does not.
Anyway, so now I was left with a phone for the rest of the day which was blank and still the problem remained. On the train, on the way home, you can then imagine my disbelief when I actually took the time to look at my phone's configuration and realised that iOS version 7.1 was still installed, so obviously the issue would still remain. So the visit to the "genius bar" was a complete waste of time as I'm still in the very same position, and I still blame the 7.1 update for this...let's home 7.2 is released very shortly and this solves the issue...
I have downloaded the package to roll the version back to 7.0 but I'm a little reluctant to carry this out yet as I would expect Apple to so the issue they have caused. This is NOT hardware related but software.
I seriously think Android is calling me...

  • Dv6 power led not working

    Hi everybody!
Today, I changed the fan in my Pavilion dv6-6001eh (the original stop working). After I assembly, the power led not working anymore. I check the cable, but that's ok. Otherwise the power button working. The second power led in the right side next to USB, also not working.
    Why? Maybe pressed hotkey?
    Thank you.

  • HT1688 Power button not working

Power button not working on iPhone 5

This is a defect on iPhone 5 power button that wears out in about 13-14 months of usage just after you go out of warranty. Apple is aware of this issue but chooses not to accept this as a defect. I asked the Genius bar guy and they told me this is a common case recently and costs $269 to replace your phone. There is no repair option. I am very mad and believe Apple needs to take action or will lose their customers. All iPhone 5 owners that I know started having this problem in the month of 13 -14.
I believe if the numbers go high, Apple may start a recall program. Please encourage anyone with this problem to post here. $700 phone should not wear out this soon. Apparently the part is defective on almost all iPhone 5 devices.
