Power Manager - big graphical footprint in taskbar + quick profile selection

Is there any way to make the green battery and charger icons in the taskbar smaller?
I run Win 7 Pro and have changed to the old classic desktop scheme.
The taskbar should then be quite slim, but the height of the Lenovo Power Manager tool is made for the new Win 7 desktop theme with a slightly taller taskbar.
To get a slim taskbar, I have to disable the Lenovo Power Manager tool all together. :-(
Is there any way to configure the PM to use old WinXP style icons?
Another change to the worse, compared to the Power Manager in WinXP, is that a single mouseclick on the green batterly in the taskbar no longer popup a quick selection meny with the different power schemas. Instead the entire lenovo Power manager application is started.
Is there any way to get the quiick selection back?

welcome to the community.
which version of Power Manager are you running?
the machine i've got in front of me right now, running the aero interface, is still on v6.07 and the PM "toolbar" icon doesn't change the taskbar size at all. my taskbar is set to use small icons, by default. also, on this machine, PM advanced options are set to open its power scheme selector with Fn+F3.
i'll check another machine later today which is running PM v6.32 to see if it's different in some way.
regards.

  • Power Manager utility for Windows 8 (third-party)

    Hi...
    I wrote a small utility that might be interesting for ThinkPad owners running Windows 8 who miss the "old" battery indicator and power manager. It's pretty limited by now, but I'm planning to add more features in the future.
    What's implemented by now:
    - system power status monitoring (a.k.a. battery indicator) on the desktop
    - charge control, which lets you customize battery charge thresholds
    What's planned:
    - display more useful battery information (battery manufacturer, manufacture date, charge cycles, etc.)
    - auto-switch power scheme on power event (AC line connect/disconnect, etc.)
    Well, to cut the chase, here's the link if you're interested...

    There are no plans to run it in the taskbar as a toolbar, sorry.
    I'm planning to make the Desktop tile draggable so that you can place it anywhere on the screen (or another monitor, for example), maybe with auto-snapping in the corners. But that's a feature with low priority.
    I will change the licensing model of Power-Manager to GPL in an upcoming release, and make its core and presentation APIs reusable as separate components.

  • Windows 7 RTM x64 Power Manager and switchable graphics not working

    Installed Windows 7 RTM x64 on my T400. After windows update and installing Lenovo's drivers, everything is accounted for. ATI graphics works fine, and I can see the Intel graphics on the shortcut menu. I just cannot manually switch to the built-in graphics, nor did I see the Power Manager. What do I need to do? I have installed the drivers for the power management, even though on the list of driver on lenovo's webpage it says it's only for SL models.
    Help would be appreciated.
    Specs:
    T400
    LED
    ATI/Intel switchable graphics

    Have you installed the Power manager http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/WIN7-BETA.html#powm ?
    And after that, make sure you have installed the right driver (the one for switchable graphics): http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/WIN7-BETA.html#m8xswitch
    Hope that helps.
    I also have Windows 7 Professional x64 on my T400 and everything works fine (i only uses programs and driver from here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/WIN7-BETA.html

  • Power Manager locking taskbar and creating two battery icons on X201

    I am having an issue with one of my X201s and Power Manager running windows 7.  My other X201 that runs the same software and was buil7 withing a few months does not have the issue. Periodically while on the internet a second battery icon will pop up on the task bar just partially overlapping the first icon and it has a fluttering appearance. When that happens the task bar is frozen and it takes accessing task manager to be able to restart the computer.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest versions of the driver for Power Manager and Power Manager but that did not fix the problem.  Not running Power Manager seems to prevent any problems but that is not what I want to do.   I did some reading last night and it seems I am not the only one having an issue and it is not confined to the particular model.  Searching did not lead me to real answers. Looking for a solution or a better way to diagnosis this.
    T430 - Taskbar Frozen? This worked for me.
    ‎01-11-2014 01:44 AM
    I thought I would post this in case someone has the same issue I did.  Today my taskbar froze after startup (i.e. I couldn't access the start button or any other icon on the task bar and I had a two wonky grey battery icons where only one should have been).  Restarting explorer.exe didn't help.  It didn't even work in safe mode.  No viruses, malware, disk/hardware issues could be found.  The culprit was the Power Manager.  There have already been a couple threads on this, but they are somewhat convoluted in addressing the issue so I thought I would post a straight forward solution.
    I had version 6.3x installed on my T430 (which is only a couple months old, by the way). I had read in another thread that the power manager has been causing problems with the taskbar from way back BUT merely uninstalling it after the problem occurs has triggered the blue screen of death for several users.
    So, I downloaded and installed the latest version of Power Manager (currently 6.6x).  I did not uninstall the previous version first.  I simply installed the new version and restarted the computer when prompted. This fixed the frozen taskbar issue.
    Then, and only then, did I uninstall power manger completely because I never want to deal with this again. Everything is now back to normal.
    The TL;DR version:
    Step 1: Download and install latest version of power manager. DO NOT uninstall previous of power manager first.
    Step 2: Restart computer
    Step 3: For peace of mind, unistall the latest version of power manager.
    Step 4: Restart computer
    I hope this helps anyone who needs it.

    Well using the older version of powermanger did not work as the issue popped up again.  I also discovered the other X201 in the house was also having the same issue with the two battery icons and locked task bar.
    I tried a new tactic which unchecking the the box in Power Manager-Options-Show periodic messages about the battery condition.  This so far no brought up the problem but more testing is necessary to be certain.

  • Power managament / Graphical Login Manager / ...

    Hi all,
    I'm new to arch, coming from ubuntu (which is a noob distro compared to this ).
    I have several questions:
    I'm running arch (with fluxbox)  on a laptop and I wanted to place a wmpower  thingy in my slit.
    Install was succesfull but when I ran the program, I got a message:
    Cpu frequency scaling is not available
    No power management subsystem detected
    wmpower: No power management support...
    I searched forums, installed acpi (pacman -s acpi ), put acpid in my daemon list but when I ran wmpower again cpu frequency is available but I still get this error.
    No power management subsystem detected
    wmpower: No power management support...
    What else should I install?
    Other question:
    How can I install a graphical login manager, and when I'm logged in,  fluxbox must start ( startx has to be executed automatically).
    Last question: Which file manager should I use, I find rox a bit simple imo, and konqueror is to much for me
    Thx in advance
    Greetz Daan

    Hi Daan,
    Please see the wiki page regarding SpeedStep: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/SpeedStep
    There are links for AMD based systems on this page as well, but only the necessary modules differ from this explanation.
    Briefly: Load the correct modules (add them to the modules array in /etc/rc.conf) for your CPU and install (and add it to the daemon section in /etc/rc.conf) cpufreq/another daemon to administer frequency scaling.
    nice regards

  • W500: using the switchable graphics with vista ultimate without the power manager software?

    seriously, invest in a new hitachi travelstar 320gb for 49 bucks from that tiger place online and a usb hard drive caddy, pop in your free clonezilla cd and your rescue and recovery problems will be over!
    after reading all the problems with that software i figured my data was too valuble to get caught in that mess so for under 75 bucks problem solved and i rid my w500 of that bloatware. even cheaper then ordering the recovery disks from lenovo.
    working on getting rid of the rest of the useless software now.
    hey question, how do you use the switchable graphics on the w500 with vista ultimate without the power manager software? if you can thats next!!

    That's because you are asking a T500/W500 question in the Thinkvantage forum. Anyway, the answer to your question is in this thread.
    ATI recently started packaging their switchable graphics driver together with their regular Catalyst. So downloading their latest driver Catalyst 9.4 from the ATI/AMD site and then modifying it with the Mobility Modder will allow you to use switchable graphics without the power manager. The little problem is just that the released version of the Mobility Modder stopped working with Catalyst 9.2 and you are on your own getting a modified Modder  working on 9.4, see here.
    So I decided not to make more work for myself staying on a modded Catalyst 9.1 and for the time being living without switchable graphics.

  • Power Manager 3.48 no longer has switchable graphics option

    I ran Active Update yesterday and the Power Manager is now upgraded to version 3.48.  It appears that there is no longer an option to switch between high performance and energy saving graphics.  How is the graphics mode supposed to be switched now that this menu option has been removed from the right mouse button menu on the Power manager?  Do I need to downgrade to a previous version?
    In case it matters, I'm running a W500 with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
    Thanks,
    Danny

    @ersiles,
    I have the T400 with switchable, I just updated it to PM 3.64 and it does swtich. What I notice earlier when I wasn't able to switch the graphic was due to BIOS settings.
    Check BIOS settings if you have it on switchable graphic mode and check if BIOS detect is enabled.
    Once that is done, boot into Windows, uninstall all the video drivers, reboot. then install the drivers again.
    Windows would try to install their version of the driver, click "Reboot later" when Windows prompt a reboot. Reboot only when ATi manager prompt the reboot.
    I was having issue too on the T400 not being able to switch. It definitely helped me ..
    Let me know.

  • W510 Power Manager appearing twice in Taskbar, machine freezing!

    Lenovo W510, running WIN 7 Professional, 64 bit. Machine is configured as 4318CTO. Very frustrating problem, machine fires up and runs great but within 30 minutes CPU monitor indicates high activity for no reason, temperature rises, two battery icons will appear in taskbar and machine will lock-up. I have to Ctl-Alt-Del and restart in order to work around. After a re-start machine appears to behave normally. I originally thought problem was overheating, opened up machine and re-pasted internals, not the problem. I'm guessing (layperson) that somehow two PM's (software) are getting enabled? My BIOS is 1.45. The Power Manager Software is V6.67.5. The Power Manager Driver is 1.67.10.17. This includes a (twice sent) Windows PM patch, no KB number associated with either of them. Machine is normally docked. I uninstalled Windows KB3035583, to halt the Windows 10 install. Sticking with WIN 7 for now. I can't be the only person with this issue. Can anyone point me in the direction of a solution? I need this machine for work, don't want to "experiment" on behalf of Lenovo. Thanks for your advice!

    ColonelONeaill: No: When I open Task Manager I do not see any processes that match the indicated load as per the temperature monitoring tools (add-a-gadget) I am using. Could be transitory, and not immediately indicatable, but suspect the CPU loading is happening at a level "deeper" than what the Task Manager reports. I could be wrong (I wish I was) but haven't caught this yet....

  • NEW Lenovo Power Manager On Taskbar

    Hi,
    I was wondering if anyone knows if the new power manager and other Think Vantage applications are available for Windows 7. I mean the ones that were actually made for Windows 7. Check the taskbar in the picture below with the new power manger, is that available yet? I've been using all Vista software, but the power manager doesn't work that well.

  • X301 graphics scramble and can't launch power manager

    some times at boot after I get to the logon page I use the finger print reader the graphics scrabbles and I have to hard boot the x301 to get it to work again.  I have a feeling that this has to do something with the finger printer reader.   Anyone else having this problem.
    Also with the newest update of the power manger I can not get into it anymore as "Power manager has stopped working" is the error message I recieved.  Otherwise as far as power management goes it seems to work correctly.  Anyone else with this problem?

    Here are the video's
     sorry they are kind of long.
    Video1 shows a cold boot then is reboots on it's own then goes to the Bios screen then boots again.  Ofcourse I have to press continue to tell vista that the computer rebooted without a normal shutdown. I do this pretty much every morning.

    Video2 starts with the scramble you have to hard boot by holding down the power button.

    Video3 starts with a bad graphics scramble, that happened right after I turned the camera off on video2.

  • Power Manager does not save my custom settings

    I'm running Win7 Pro 64bit SP1 (Swedish) and Power Manager v6.36 on my W530.
    When I create a new power profile, I go through all the 5 steps, but afterward no new profile exist. I only see the default 5 ones from Lenovo PM.
    Same thing if I change the setting in any of the 5 profiles, the changes aren't saved.
    This is reproduceable every time.
    The only changes that DO get saved are the settings on the Global tab like if I choose to do nothing when the lid is closed.
    Is there any way to get the Power Manager to work as it should?
    PS: I really miss the possibility to swiftly change power profile via a left click on the green power gauge next to the systray. Nowdays a single click load and start up the entire Power Manager application. This is SO tiresome when I just want to do a quick change of the profile.
    PPS: I had the same problem in v6.32 and just installed 6.36, but still the problem persists.

    It sounds to me that the two power managers are conflicting with each other. Try to make your custom power settings inside of the Lenovo Power Manager.
    You can do this by opening the Lenovo Power manager and selecting the power plan tab, directly under the tab is a button that says New. When you select this a new window should open to allow you customize your own power schemes. You will be able to customize the System settings such as: Maximum CPU speed, Display Brightness, Graphics Power plan, also desired Idle timers, events, alarms an other advanced settings. Once created you will see your new power plan listed under the default power plans.
    If this does not work, I would then suggest uninstalling the Lenovo Power Manager and utilize Microsoft Power Manager.
    Good luck! Let me know if you have any questions

  • T61, WinXP SP2: Windows Power Options vs Thinkpad Power Manager (Standby/LID/etc)

    My message is similar to this one:
    http://forum.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=T_Series_Thinkpads&message.id=4885
    but show clear source of problem.
    So I start...
    I have [brand new ] T61 with XP SP2 Russian, installed from R&R disks from Lenovo through Vista Downgrade deal.
    1. I set Windows Power Management (W.P.M.) to:
    - standby when closing lid
    - asks for password after wake up from Anabiosis (standby or hibernate).
    2. Close lid -- notebook go to standby; open lid -- notebook wakes up. Fine.
    3. Close lid -- nothing to do. Open lid - notebook runned a usual, no standby preparations ;(
    4. Go to ThinkPad Power Manager (TP.P.M.) (useful left-click from Big Green Gauge in taskbar) -- all settings looks fine: options, checkboxes etc.
    5. Open W.P.M. -- all settings messed up with random values:
    - "no action" on closing lid
    - "asks for password" checkbox not checked (this field varies through few tests).
    6. Setting up needed options in W.P.M. again, repeat steps 2..3..4 -- nothing changes: W.P.M. saves options for first close lid action, then options messed up.
    ==================================
    As I see, ThinkPad Power Manager builds on top of Windows Power Management and overwrites its options on some actions (power up/power down/close lid/etc) in unsmart way, turn off close lid action and bring *potentially security breach* by resetting option for asking password.
    ==================================
    My other experience on close/open lid:
    - Very old R43 at my work acts fine. TP.P.M. installed.
    - HP 6820s works fine with standard W.P.M.
    - HP nx7010 works fine with standard W.P.M.
    Software versions:
    - ThinkPad Power Management Driver: 1.44
    - ThinkPad Power Manager: 1.30b
    - All the hotfixes listed in similar topics installed by R&R disks
    ==================================
    I... am... VERY... DISAPPOINTED! (c) Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg
    Is there a way to fix this TP Power Management suite behaviour?
    Should I reinstall some of components?
    Can I throw out TP Power Management toys and use WinXP native Power Management, ot there will be some ghosts like "yellow undrivered question marks" in Device Manager?
    Thank you.

    I solved this trouble without Lenovo intervention:
    - create clean WinXP Pro setup disk from R&R recovery diskset and install WinXP from it;
    - install all the TP utilities & drivers manually, checking LID Close/LID open actions twice after each program;
    - make full system backup (not R&R way) every 3..4 installed programs.
    Entire process spend one week of my time.

  • X60 - Screen flickers and screen shutoff - problem with power management or hardware failure?

    Hello everyone,
    this is one of the longest unsolved threads in Lenovo Forum. To keep a summary of the posts for new victims (as suggested by PDG in page 23, edited by me):
    Bottom line:
    This is a video driver problem
    If you have XP and can, roll back to 4450 (I currently run with 4860 in XP without problems)
    If you have Vista you are basically screwed.  No one has posted any link to a functioning V32 driver.
    You can find a link to a backlevel XP driver on p.21 or thereabouts.
    {Windows 7, Linux} may or may not help. (no problems for me with Ubuntu 8,9 currently)
    LENOVO WILL NOT HELP.  Don't waste your time.  Lenovo will say its a hardware problem because that's all they know and charge you big bux to do basically nothing when you ship them your PC.
    This is the original entry:
    Hi,
    I always stay at the current level of available drivers with System Update.
    In the last days the screen starts to flicker / jiggle once in several minutes until suddenly the whole screen turns black and can't be reactivated. I then put the X60 into standby and it wake up right after. The screen is then turned on again...
    Its a 1706-AA7...
    I rolled back the graphics driver to an earlier version, didn't help. Does it look like some faulty power management? Or a potential HW issue?
    dsp
    UPDATE: this time the screen was totally light blue... same workaround: standby -> wakeup
    UPDATE2: I removed the driver completely and installed it manually from the driver matrix page. It took a couple of reboots. In between resolution was down to 640x480 with 4 bit. Not its working again without flickering...
    Was this a wrong driver pushed via System Update?
    Message Edited by dsp on 04-07-2008 07:01 AM
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
    no - 2 video adapters are correct! You should not remove them. Read the Intel FAQ here.
    Strange - could it be that it also updated your video driver the same time? When I rolled back the video driver to a very old version, I never experienced the flicker again. No colorful blanks anymore.
    The Intel downloadpage offers a backlevel driver for the chipset;
    * Microsoft Windows* XP
    * Driver Revision: Production Version 14.32.3
    * Package: 43262
    * Graphics: 6.14.10.4906
    * HDMI Audio: 5.10.0.1030 But I don't know whether I should try. This release doesn't appear in the Thinkpad video driver history. Hopefully the bug will be acknowledged and they work for a fix. Where should bugs be reported, when they are not taken serious by the first level support?

    One of the most usefull features, having Power Manager to display the remaining battery charge on the task bar, disappeared when I installed Power Manager 3.0.0114 (or something).
