Power Manager issue when switching to and from AC

Currently I have several Lenovo Brand laptops in my environment T500, T510, T520, T530 and a T430s Running a custom image of Windows 7 Pro with a few Windows 7 Enterprise.
Here is the problem.  I can boot fine, but the boot state is important whether I'm on AC or not on AC.  What happens if I boot while on AC everything is fine until I unplug the Adapter.  The Power indicator start flickering rapidly..Actually pulsating rapidly is more accurate and the laptop becomes unresponsive until the AC Adapter is PLUGGED back in.
If I boot off AC everything is fine until I plug it up then the Power indicator pulsates rapidly and the machine is unresponvie again until the AC Adapter is UNPLUGGED.
Right now the only solution is to uninstall the Power Manager software and all is fine.  Once that is done all is fine, there are enough laptop with the problem for me to worry about when it takes 2 minutes to uninstall the software and it happens to a small precentage of macines.

See if this helps
RESET DEVICE
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for device to restart (no data will be lost).

  • Power Manager issues at Windows startup and launching PWMUI.EXE

    Hello everybody.
I looked up the forum, but did not find appropriate solutions.
My OS is MS XP Professional SP3 with the lates updates from MS. And I have 2 issues (seems like interrelated)
Issue-1. An exception occurs on Windows startup:
“RUNDLL: An exception occurred while trying to run “C:\PROGRA~1\ThinkPad\UTILIT~1\PWRMGTR.DLL, PwrMgrBkGndMonitor””.
    After pressing “OK”:
“.NET-BroadcastEventWindow.2.0.0.0.6e8caf.0: rundll32.exe – Application Error: The instruction at “0x783a3457” referenced memory at “0x10069de4”. The memory could not be “read””.
After pressing “OK” following message says that DLL can not be executed or something like that, to send error report to MS.
Issue-2. Power Manager does not launch
When I press Fn+F3 combination, and click “Manage Settings …”, error messages appears:
“Power Manager: Power Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience”. The same situation if I launch “C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\Utilities PWMUI.EXE” directly.
    Re-installation doesn’t help.
Current version of Power Manager is 1.0.0.0. However , it offered to download another version 1.3.5 (or something like that) via ThinkVantage System Update.
    Thank you in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thank you very much.
I tried so: 1) uninstall Power Manger (+ ThinkPad PM Driver), 2) launch Cleaner, 3) download and install PM ver 1.89.
The first Windows start was without initial error. I tried to launch PM from Start menu, previous (well known) error message appeared.
After I rebooted, all started from the beginning…
Then I restored my old (shipped from the factory) PM from “C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\PWRMGR”. I saw something strange on the monitor: some windows were with new User Interface, some with old one. “About…” command didn’t respond.
I launched ThinkVantage System Update again. It offered to install new version of PM (in Recommended updated tab) and PM Driver (in Optional updated tab).
After acceptation, installation and restart everything started to work!
To sum up I guess that the root cause was obsolete Driver and System Update utility does not check for driver update (only is absent). Practical evidence says so.
However, now in Advanced mode I have only one Power Scheme: “Timers Off (Presentation)”, in contrast I had several ones in previous version of PM (Energy Star, Maximum Performance, Maximum Battery Life, Source Power Optimized and Timers Off). Is it normal for PM ver 1.89? When I had updated my XP up to SP3, and firstly installed new version of PM, I saw “Video Playback” mode in “Choose Power Scheme” window. Then my PM  broken down.
Of course, it is not so critical for my work, but when you use ThinkPad you always except flatness in HW and SW operation…
    Thank you again.

  • Power Mac G5 DP1.8GHz - Bad Logic Board or Power Management Issue?

I have a Power Mac G5 DP1.8GHz/1.5GB/80GB which I bought non-working. It has not yet been disassembled or examined by a certified tech. This is it's issue (which replicates): the computer powers on. It makes a single warning tone, then the LED flashed at least 15 times (too fast to count). Then the posting chord is heard. Hard drive spins up. Then nothing (no video). Won’t boot from any disk. I have changed the RAM and tested the RAM banks with known-to-be-good RAM from another DP1.8GHz G5. The warning tone stopped once or twice after this switch, but then it didn’t chime. I changed the PRAM battery, but not with as new one. However, after installing the used one and then resetting the PMU, it displayed video briefly for the first time. While installed in the other 1.8GHz G5, the hard drive was formatted, given a clean install of OS X 10.4.11, and then moved into this computer where is never mounts. The computer is not accessible through TDM.
Do I have a bad logic board? Bad CPUs? A power managment issue? A RAM issue?

Through my own trial and error troubleshooting, I have found the CPUs to be in good working order and the logic board passes the Apple Service Diagnostic every time. Despite the installation of numerous pairs of modules that worked in another DP1.8GHz, the computer has a RAM issue-it gives the "no good RAM" tone most of the time when it powers up (after a PMU reset it does not). Also the computer boots from disk or into Open Firmware but the disk utility can't see either hard drive so I may have a bad SATA controller.

  • Power management issue USB 2.0 Root Hub

    82801EB USB 2 Enhanced host controller .
    USB 2.0 Root Hub
    Power management issue.
The check box of the Function (Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power)  Remains always unchecked , it does not matter if you check it , in the next check in the properties window it will be unchecked again .
My problem is that my system does not hibernate if I set time more than 15 minutes or so.
The system stays-On for ever, I have check for software issues, but everything looks normal, at my search for power management problems in drivers, I found this issue, with the USB 2 controller.
I have unplug any USB device from it, and the power management status does not change also.
The INTEL driver file is very fresh, 29/4/2004.
Does any one have any ideas, Beta driver or other solution?

Well i think that i found my real problem , even if the above issue is not 100% responsible for my troubles .
The AVAST antivirus was blocking the hibernation , by one function called as ( On acces file check ) .
I did disable it , and my system now hibernates .
The point is that even now , i am not 100% certen that the system will act corectly its and every time .
But at list i did a good step on the corect direction.

  • 870A-G54 - power management issues

A power-management issue with standby. I've set standby to be "S3" in the BIOS - the system goes into standby fine and wakes up fine.
The problem is, if the system is in standby for a few hours, at some point during that time, it turns itself off fully. As in, powered-down-pressing-the-power-button-causes-the-system-to-boot-from-scratch "fully off". This has happened three times so far (every time I've left the system on standby for a long period). This happens whether the BIOS "EuP 2013" setting is enabled or disabled.
The duration of time is less than 4hrs, though I don't know what the cutoff is exactly.
    No power-cuts. ;-)
Any suggestions? I don't know much about ACPI (had to look up what to set the "standby" to in the first place).
    MSI 870A-G54
    Athlon II x3 450
    Powercool 1gb AMD 5670 gfx
    2*2gb RAM
    Antec Earthwatts 380 Green PSU
    500GB Samsung HDD
    Windows XP SP3 32 bit
    NOT over/underclocked in any way.

Right, I've been conducting some experiments to try and narrow this down.
With the New powersupply (the Antec 380 Earthwatts):
    - S1 standby works fine.
    - S3 standby works for 12-13 minutes. After that the blinking-power-led stops blinking. If at this point I press the power-button, the computer does NOT turn on. It remains completely unresponsive. I have to wait about 2 more minutes before the power button starts responding, at which point I am booting from scratch (BIOS).
With the Old powersupply, a non-brand (It says "COLORSit") 400w affair that's known-good.
    - S1 standby works fine.
    - S3 standby does not work at all. The system is powered-off but actually turns off fully rather than into standby. No flashing power-LED. Pressing the power button results in booting from scratch (BIOS).
This old-powersupply was tested with the EuP 2013 both enabled and disabled.
For both experiments the dvd-drive was disconnected, so we can rule that out too (though it was never really a contender. :-) )
Given this, I'm inclined to rule out the powersupply as a cause - this is a years-old power-supply that I've never had a problem with.
Anyone have any thoughts? I'm leaning towards motherboard, but standby isn't something I know much about, so I defer to the board for suggestions.

  • Colour Management Issue with PS CS3 and Leopard 10.5.2

    Hi Everyone,
Since I have installed Leopard I am having colour management issues with Photoshop CS3 and my Canon i9950 printer.
My screen is calibrated with a Spyder and I used to ask Photoshop (in 10.4.11) to manage colour when printing and used the Spyder profile. Everything came out as I saw it on screen.
Now in leopard when I do the same thing everything comes out too yellow on the print. If I ask Photoshop to let the printer manage the colour it is too red. If I use the default colour management (photoshop managing the colour and it choosing the colour space it is better, but still too yellow).
Photoshop gives the hint to turn off colour management in the printer but there is no option for this and it also said the same thing before of course (when it worked in 10.4.11).
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    >It was working perfectly in Tiger with the monitor profile.
    You were lucky.
the monitor profile is so Photoshop can display your images correctly.
the working space is Adobe RGB, sRGB, BruceRGB, ect... these are all known color spaces so when the file goes to another computer there is a consistent color space for reference. If you use your monitor profile as a working space then nobody else knows what is going on with your file.
when you print you need to use the printer profile for the type of paper you are printing on this is supplied by the printer manufacturer. you can also have custom profiles made.
you need to read up on color management:

  • Is it possible to use software limits on 7354 board when switching control modes from open to closed or closed to open loop?

Is it possible to use software limits on 7354 board when switching control modes from open to closed or closed to open loop?

    Hello Richard,
When you say 'open loop' and 'closed loop', are you referring to running the application in position and torque mode? If not, how exactly are your controlling a servo motor in open loop?
In closed loop mode, the encoder values will be used as reference and the motion VIs can be used to configure the software limit as required. Are you currently losing the software limits? If so, how exactly are you losing these values? I am not sure I understood what exactly is happening with software limits in your program, so any more information on this would be useful.

  • MacBook Pro Power Management Issues and "Broken" Bootcamp

This is not a question but rather a solution I have discovered to a problem I have experienced many times now.
My Core 2 Duo 15" MacBook Pro (non-LED version) has exhibited several issues with the systems power management hardware.
Firstly: Occasionally the system will refuse to turn on. This has happened to me twice, it usually happens when I am running on just batteries. The very first time it happened I was in a meeting and had important data I had to get from the laptop, I was silently panicking. After swearing at my new 2.5 grand pride and joy, I happened to read an old support article relating to older PowerBooks which exhibited the same problems. Apple recommended taking the battery out and then holding the power button for several seconds and then reinserting the battery. This apparently resets the power management hardware feature -- and it worked, and has worked three times since.
Secondly: I have had a persistent problem when running Bootcamp. Sometimes the machine doesn’t go to sleep properly and although it everything looks right it continues to run (and perhaps, like me, you’ve backed it away in your bag and hence didnt notice it burning up. What has happened to me several times is that it literally "breaks" Windows XP. When you wake the computer or turn it back on (if the battery drained) then youll find Windows running PAINFULLY slow. If you press CTRL-ALT-DELETE (to bring up the task manager) I would see that the CPU is working very hard (at nearly full utilization) and it is so occupied that it won’t respond to anything I do at all. No matter what I did (I attempted a system restore, which was a two hour task with the computer running in its "broken" state) nothing would bring windows back to life. The first two times this occurred I was devastated because the only thing left for me to try was to remove the windows partition and install it fresh (thus losing all my files and settings -- although for the record you can still access the windows partitions files through Mac OS X). This ruined a near full day for me each time the computer did this (having a lot of settings and tweaks and installed programs to reapply). The third time this happened I did the "trick" listed above and reset the MacBook Pro's power management hardware. this has solved the problem ever since (two additional times now). I post this in case someone experiencing the same issue searches the forum.
I dont know the technical explanation but obviously there is an issue within this series of MacBook Pro's power management. Perhaps it relates to the "artificial" BIOS the system presents to windows through Apple's EFI system (Windows requires legacy BIOS to operate and all Intel Macs alternatively use EFI, so an extra "trick" had to be added by Apple for Windows to be compatible).

The computer. If two different batteries behave the same way it gives credence to possible issues with the power manager. You can try resetting it with:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319
And verifying the firmware is up to date:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303880
    And running the hardware test:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303081
If nothing seems to help, call AppleCare again, and tell them the battery replacement did not solve the problem and that you tried the above and tell them the results you got.

    Hi all,
Our EBS instance worked well and stable. But two days ago, we met a strange issue as below description:
When user clicks "View Output" or "View log" from concurrent manager, they see the error in the pop-up: "Authentication failed" or "File server could not identify source file". The link in the pop-up is in "http://hostname/OA_CGI/FNDWRR.exe?temp_id=<number>" format.
After some attempts to refresh this pop-up page or close pop-up - re-click "View output" our user can see the correct output as normal. Sometimes, they click view output once and get the correct output immediately. The messages we've got is not same during these attempts, it could be authentication failed or "File server could not identify source file" randomly.
We've tried to find the solutions from metalink and from some threads in this forum but nothing can help. It's our production system.

  • What are management issues when Principal and DR mirroring environments use different drive letters. 2008R2 Enterprise Edition.

I have to build a DR environment. The drive letters on principal are different than I HAVE to use on new DR server. Is 2008R2 mirroring able to handle that difference in drive letters. And what are the complexities for managing this setup and failing over
from principal to DR?  Thank you for your reply!

You can handle database Mirroring with difference in drive letters.
The mirroring is not centralized on drive letter but there will be some issues when you add a file to a PRINCIPAL, the DDL gets applied across mirror, then your database will go into suspended status until you duplicate the path on the mirror.
Its recommended to have same identical configuration.

  • Power managment issue ?

Hello everyone , i'm actually using an MSI 560 Ti Hawk , after the 285.62 update i started facing the famous TDR while browsing with firefox.
It seems that removing hardware accelleration fixed it .
I also tried changing the power managment option in the nvidia control panel.. here is my question :
i moved it to prefer max performance from adaptive ( both in global and firefox specific ) , but i can't see any difference from the standard behaviour , the core is still sitting at 50 mhz
shouldn't it move up to max core ( 950 ) with this option ?

Nope, you have to ask Nvidia about it.
285.62 think was having such fix for IE browsers.
You can reisntall them, but remove any VGA drivers 1st in Safe Mode with >>Driver Sweeper<<
and also when installing the new one, choose custom install and chechmark "Clean Install"

  • Power management problems! Toshiba L655 and the battery is recognised

Ok I finally got the battery in this thing to be recognised so that power management will allow me to set how to handle power setting when running off of the battery.
    I'm running KDE 4.8.2
Here's the problem that I'm having now, when ever I'm running AC everything is fine and power management seems to work perfectly, however when I unplug the power adaptor and run from battery every thing works as expected until I plug the power adaptor back in. When plugging the power adaptor back in it appears as though the on AC profile setting never take effect, like its stuck on the running on battery profile instead of switching back to running on AC as expected!
Any help in solving this problem would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!

Yes I do. It's one of things I did trying to solve the Toshiba acpi problem where linux claims there's no battery present.
