Power manager problem under vista 64 bit

Happy to see Lenovo opened a forum and willing to hear from the customers.
Power manager has problems under Vista 64bit:
1. Sometimes it will cause explore.exe can't start when windows start.
2. If no window at max, the color of the battery icon will be very dim
Hope Lenovo can publish a new edition for vista 64 bit.

  • KT4 Ultra APCI power management problems

After I boot I must go into Win98 power management propertys and apply to get any power management functions to work. And then all I can get is monitor blank and hardrive power down. Unit will not go into suspend.
If I use the suspend feature in power down the unit will go into suspend (Susp to ram) but all the fans keep running. When I come out of suspend, the system becomes unstable and quirky.
Can anyone help me get this running the way it should.

  • Power Manager Problems

Since purchase my T61p 6459-CTO has run at about 50 C under normal load, measured by TPFanControl. A few weeks ago I noticed my idle temperature was at 62 C. In hunting around I discovered that my power scheme (Energy Star) had been lost and the selection window in the applet was blank. I selected Energy Star, clicked apply, and within minutes the temperature was back down to 50.
This morning I was back at 62. When I double clicked on the green tray icon, the applet window was blank again, but I was unable to select a scheme because none were there, I pressed the blue ThinkVantage Button and tried to get to Power Management from the productivity center. I got a message saying "You are not authorized to display the panel for selecting a power scheme". Yikes!
Reinstalling Power Management didn't help, so I Googled the error message, and amazingly enough, I was not alone. Another ThinkPad user, with a T60 had the same problem. If you open your registry and go to HotKey_Current_User\Control Panel\PowerPolicies there is a list of power schemes. Evidently, when the list grows too long, the applet fail. Deleting the majority of the schemes solves the problem. See
http://chris.brandlehner.at/Brandlehner/cab_blog.nsf/d6plinks/CBRR-6YWBNV for a more detailed explanation.
But...my problem isn't completely fixed. I have the Max Performance, Max Battery Life, Presentation, Video Playback and Power Source Optimized schemes, but I've lost Energy Star. Frankly, I don't know what to do next.

  • Power management problem in MacBook 13 firmware?

After installing the Tiger 10.4.7 update, I have seen various problems with powering up my MacBook. Once powered up, I don't have any visible problems. Only after powering down, the problem arises.
When I go to start the MacBook, the screen goes all gray, then it looks as though the LCD update stops. The screen slowly fades to colored vertical lines, then goes white as if the clocks to the LCD module have stopped, or at the wrong speed.
The solution that I have found to overcome this is to clear the PRAM (ALT-CMD P R) and to then hold the power button until the white led blinks fast. I get a long tone from the speaker, then the machine boots normally.
I suspect that something in the new 10.4.7 update is causing the PRAM / Power management system to become corrupt. Any thoughts?
    Thank you.
    John

Thanks for the reply. I don't consider the LCD lines a problem in themseleves. There is something that changed when the 10.4.7 update was installed that has caused an issue with the startup.
Just to be clear, I had backed up, repaired permissions, checked my HD media, and followed Apple's recommended action before installing the update (as with all other updates).
My educated guess, having designed hardware and firmware for a number of years, is that something is corrupting the PRAM or other startup prior to getting to the HD. Until we start looking into the underlying problem with the update itself, the problem will continue.
It is important to make sure that there are no underlying problems with the system before installing an update. However, in this case, it is clear that there is something wrong with the update / update process with 10.4.7.

  • Lenovo power manager problem

    Hello everyone,
I am experiencing a very annoying problem with my W520 with the Quadro 1000M and windows 8:
When I plug in my laptop, my fps totally gets cut off. When I unplug the charger, the fps gets back to normal.
It seems to be happening after I updated the power manager to the latest version 1.66.00.22.
This happens when playing League of Legends.
I tried updating the nvidea driver but no difference.
Any tips or links to previous versions of the power manager ?

try to install power management on safe mode. ( make sure you un-install first )
by the way, have you performed clean windows installation or upgrade?
you can re-download power management from here or try to use vista drivers

    Hi,
everybody suggests "hdparm -B 254 /dev/sdxxxx". This does NOT work. At all. The Load Cycle Count keeps going up. The 2nd HDD (in the CD/hdd caddy) powers down every few seconds, then up again.
I found this works: "hdparm -S 25 /dev/sdxxxxx" (change sdXXX in sda, sdb, or whatever relevant to your case). It sets spindown every 25*5 seconds. Second hdd is practically always on and LoadCycleCount remains constant.
I am also using "hdparam -S 0" to disable drive power management entirely.

Please Please can you check something for me?
I have two hard drives (second is in aftermarket caddy), but it seems the second hd (the one in the caddy) is NOT seen by BIOS at boot. So I can only boot from the internal hdd. After booting, the second hdd is seen by Linux, SATA link reports 3Gb, no issues, all is fine.
Same here, the secondary hard drive is not seen in BIOS or in the BIOS boot menu.
After booting Windows/Linux, the drive works fine.
UPDATE: Even in good ol' DOS, the drive is seen. (I just booted DOS for a firmware update of an SSD drive, which was installed in the hard drive caddy.)
Where did you get the BIOS v1.32? The latest on the Lenovo Website and in System Update is 1.20..
Can you verify something for me too?
On my L520, Turbo Mode does not work at all, how about yours?
You can verify under Windows using hwinfo (http://www.hwinfo.com/ ).
For Linux, there's http://code.google.com/p/i7z/ , but you'll have to compile it.

  • T61P XP/SP3 - Power Manager Problems, Can't save schemes, limited schemes available

Hi All - When I got this -rockin'- laptop originally I could set my own power schemes without problem.  Now it won't save my new powerschemes.  I try to create one, finish the last step, and then the power scheme isn't in the dropdown.  I read somewhere on the Web that this may be related to SP3.
Also, the only Power Schemes I have access to are Video Playback and Maximum Performance.  I have tried uninstalling Power Manager and the associated DLL and then reinstalling, but that didn't help.  Also, I see no reference to this problem in troubleshooting.  Thanks in advance.  This is getting really annoying as I like to use as little power as possible since I use teh computer on battery power quite often.

  • Lenovo G510 Power Management Probleme

Hey Guys i have a really anoying probleme with my new Lenovo Laptop. When i put the charger in, it runs slower than o battery. For example if i want to play a game and want to plugg it in so that it wont use the battery my performance is affected. I do not have eny power manager drivers instaled except the usual Windows power manager. I had one instaled but was pretty much useless and i've deleted it. Please help, i dont know what to do and its very anoying.

    Hi Albulescu,
As you have performed the exact steps with the Power Plan for Maximized performance of the computer with or without AC Adapter connected, the only available option is to re-install the Intel Chipset driver for the computer and if the issue persists. I would strongly suggest you to contact our Technical Support for further Assistance also to get the details of the nearest Authorized Service Center to get the issue analyzed.

  • Lenovo 3000N200/0769/B5G - Power Management Problem

I have recently downgraded the Operating System on my Laptopto to Windows XP Pro with reasonable success. However, there is one problem. I can go into Standby and Hibernate mode all right, though it takes a good 60 secs to do so, but I cannot wake the computer by shaking the mouse or punching any key on the keyboard. I should clarify that my laptop is connected to an external monitor and keyboard, and hence the reference to shaking the mouse. I find that the only way to recover from Standby or Hibernate modes is to power off and power on again by pressing the power button on the laptop, which partly defeats the purpose of using these modes. I have installed the correct latest BIOS and also Power Management and video drivers for XP. I notice that a few other members of this forum also are having PM problems but have not come across anyone having exactly the same problem as above, namely, can hibernate/standby but cannot wake the pc. Any help will be appreciated.

Check your BIOS for options "wake on mouse", "wake on keyboard" - this helps returning after wait mode.
After hibernating you only can start by pressing "ON" button (Power Button).
Hibernation takes long because of fragmented HDD.
    To increase speed do following:
1)RightCkick on desktop->Options->Screensaver->Power Mangement. On one of tabs there's an "enable hibernation" checkbox. Uncheck it.
    2)Defrag your "C:" drive.
    3)Mark that first-step checkbox again.

  • Power management problem with USB modem

I now use a MS-6743 (i865G) board. My previous board was MS-6533, it did not have USB v2.0.
The problem is my Aztech (originally Smartlink) USB modem prevents the system going into standby mode but this should be a USB 2.0 issue because I'm using the same driver for the modem like previous mainboard config. I could go into standby mode flawlessly with my old board.
Furthermore I'm using USB keyboard, mouse but no power management property dialog box appear for those devices. So I'm pretty sure the problem is because of USB 2.0. Is there a way to come around this issue? Thanks in advance...
