Power Manager resets Display Brightness (T 410)

Has anyone experienced an issues with power manager where the following occurs? I have power manager set so on battery my display brightness is 10 and on AC the brightness is 15. If I restart Windows 7 and am on battery power, the AC setting resets to 10 and must be manually reset once I plug in the power cord. I am running windows 7 64 (not the Lenovo build) but have used system update and am currently up to date with no problems listed in device manager. Any ideas.
Thanks.

Hello mate,
Is the setting the same in both Power Manager and Windows Power Options ?
Knowledge is of two kinds. We know a subject ourselves, or we know where we can find information on it.

  • Power Manager and display brightness level

    Hello,
In my settings (Power Manager v1.89) set is average level of display brightness (for Battery and AC settings) but for some reason after Switch User or after Stanby Mode the brightness becomes to maximum level, but not to my settings.
    Why?
    Best regards,

  • T430s Error in how the Power Manager icon displays in system tray at bottom of screen

The icon for the Power Manager in the Windows system tray in the bottom right area of the screen is cut off.    It's basically displaying itself too low on the system bar.  Please see picture attached:
Does anyone know how to fix this?  I've tried updating to the latest version of Power Manager (v 6.40) but that didn't help.  I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
    Thanks.

    Hi, wesaturn
Have you tried updating all other driver updates available for your system, such as the BIOS and video drivers? They can all be found here if not.
Also, how long has this been occurring? And has it ever displayed properly?
    Best,

  • Gnome-power-manager and screen brightness

gnome-power-manager appears to be screwing with my ability to adjust the screen brightness. Now there are only two brightness settings that work - the ones defined in gnome-power-manager settings.  Using the keyboard shortcuts "works" in that I can increase the brightness one level but then the change gets overridden.  Decreasing the brightness sets it at the minimum level then I can get it back without entering gpm settings.  This definitely work before the last update and I think for a while after.
Is there anyway I can get it to listen to manual adjustments?
Edit:  I think this was due to the latest hal update.
    > lshal | grep bright
    laptop_panel.brightness_in_hardware = false (bool)
    Edit 2:
    Found http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-290994.html
Adding "video" to MOD_BLACKLIST in /etc/rc.conf fixed this.  This is just a kernel module right? Nothing else will be screwed...?

I have Sony Vaio VGN-FZ38M with Nvidia 8400M GT. I used package 'nvclock' (it is in repo) to control lcd brightness, here site with more info: NVClock.  Some time ago I also configured Fn keys to work with it (on Ubuntu), but on Arch I didn't  manged but I didn't try hard (in general i don't need, my laptop is stationary all the time). Solution I've found somwehere in Ubuntu forums.

  • Power Manager and LCD Brightness, System Freezes, and other Problems

I have a brand new X200 with PM 1.54.  At first everything was working great.  Over the past few days I've noticed a few things:
    1.  When running on battaries, the screen brightness changes about every 10 seconds even though the profile I'm using has that feature turned off.
    2.  After running the computer for about 1/2 hr, suddenly the PM shows a dramatic reduction in amount of time left on my battery which coinsides with:
         a) fan consantly running; AND
         b) about 10 minuntes later my entire system freezes and I have to push the power button to force a reboot.
    Any ideas what's wrong?

Since your Mac Pro is new, you would do well to contact Apple about this problem while the warranty is still in effect.

  • Power manager doesn't display - so I can't get rid of the power change beep...

    Hi everybody,
I just got the X200 laptop, like it very much except for the annoyingly loud beep when the system goes into stand-by. Looking trough this forum I tried many things, like changing the sound settings in regedit to 'no' and disabling the 'beep' plugin in the system settings. No luck so far. An other solution (that sounds useful) is disabling the 'beep on power changes' option in the Power Manager. But...when I open the Power Manager, it displays the welcome/info screen and then disappears! How can I get into the Power Manager??
    Hope someone can help...
    Cheers,
    Hanneke

That's a strange one. Run Thinkvantage System Update, or just download and install most recent PM driver and software. Maybe refreshing these will give you PM back. Otherwise, I believe you may also have a setting in the BIOS for the beep. Not in front of my X100 now, but I know I have this setting on my X60s.

    hi miau!
i changed my xorg.conf to match your suggestions... Option "DPMS" "true" moved in Monitor section and blanking and dpms settings in ServerLayout:
    Section "ServerLayout"
    Identifier "Layout0"
    Screen 0 "Screen0"
    InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
    InputDevice "Synaptics Touchpad" "SendCoreEvents"
    InputDevice "USB Mouse" "CorePointer"
    Option "BlankTime" "0"
    Option "StandbyTime" "10"
    Option "SuspendTime" "15"
    Option "OffTime" "20"
    EndSection
i guess you suggested me to do this way, isn't it?
    unfortunately it still doesn't work!
it seems that after login gnome-power-manager resets all the settings about dpms in xorg.conf... every section i put them in...
this is part of the output of xset q just after login:
    Screen Saver:
prefer blanking: yes allow exposures: yes
    timeout: 0 cycle: 600
    Colors:
    default colormap: 0x20 BlackPixel: 0 WhitePixel: 16777215

    /usr/share/fonts/misc,/usr/share/fonts/100dpi:unscaled,/usr/share/fonts/75dpi:unscaled,/usr/share/fonts/TTF,/usr/share/fonts/Type1,built-ins
    DPMS (Energy Star):
    Standby: 0 Suspend: 0 Off: 0
    DPMS is Enabled
    Monitor is On
    any other idea?

  • Power Manager 3.0 on X220

  • Reason for power manager failure?

In the last two weeks my G4 ibook has needed the advanced power manager reset twice. Both times the computer was showing the battery not being charged just before the computer stopped working. Removing the battery and resetting the power manager worked both times, but I'm thinking this is just a symptom of another problem. Any thoughts? Thanks, Craig

  • Gnome-power-manager 2.26 does not suspend on idle

I got a problem with gnome-power-manager 2.26 (several Versions 2.26.0 2.26.1 2.26.2 (original PKGBUILD)). I can suspend from the applet menu. It does hibernate on critical bat level, but i does not suspend on idle, regardless what timeout values I set in screensaver and gnome-power-manager. Display sleep seems to work though. First I thought, this might be only an issue on my particular notebook, as I could not find anything on google about this, but it is the same behavior on my freshly installed desktop system.
gnome-power-manager --verbose outputs nothing about going to standby.
I built gnome-power-manager and gnome-screensaver from 2.24 and they do work porperly, except the notebook will not hibernating on crit bat level.

Desktop: GB AMD 790XT, Phenom 720, Nvidia GTX 260

Might this be an Policy issue? Nevertheless if anyone out there has has this problem, let me know and i am goning to file a bug report.

  • Display brightness setting doesn't stick on power cycle

The display brightness setting doesn't seem to stick during power cycles on my new 13" i7, it almost always sets itself to full brightness when I turn it on. This isn't really a huge deal but it is kind of a nuisance as I typically keep it around half, why should I be turning it back down every time I boot up???.
I have un-checked the box through settings for adjusting brightness based on ambient light, and made sure it is in fact staying un-checked.
I have also reset PRAM a few times now which seems to provide a temporary fix only. After a day or two it's back to square one again.
Any ideas, or is this a bug that there's currently no fix for?

Hi, I have recently bought GE60-0ND notebook with Win8 preinstalled which I got rid of in a second I got home, reinstalled with my licensed Win7. Half of things didn't work so I flashed the correct firmware. From that point on everything works perfectly, only brightness control is broken. I simply cannot control my monitor's brightness with my special keys nor in power control setup. So I googled.. and some smart guy recommended a bios flash as well. But when I try, it says either "Problem getting flash information" or "Problem getting bios information".
Any thoughts how to get the brightness control work?
Thanks for any kind of advice
Did you switch the BIOS and the EC Firmware to the Windows 7 counterparts?
You may want to ask Svet about that error.

  • ThinkVantage Power Manager - idle time for screen brightness fixed at 1minute (very anoying)

    Dear all,
    Please consider this problem:
I have just recieved my new X301 which I am very pleased with. However the ThinkVantage Power Manager has a very annoying bug. When creating a custom power scheme everything works as it should (as far as I can tell) except for one thing. Whilst in the "Idle timers" section the first drop down box which allows you to select the "lower display brightness" time in the "battery settings" column I find that I can select any of the options provided, i.e. "After 1 minute", "After 2 minutes", ...etc "After 45 minutes" or "Never". HOWEVER, regardless of what option I select the power manager instantly reverts back to "After 1 minute" as soon as I exit (selecting the "apply" button or the "okay" button does not help). This is incredibly anoying as it means I'm constantly harrased by the sreen changing brighness when I don't want it to OR having to set the "Lower to" setting to the same as the active screen brightness which means there are no power saving advantages at all and I get the anoying flash of the brightness bars on the screen every 60 seconds (that's 60 times in a working hour!)
I have done the following to try to resolve the problem:
    1) updated the power manager to the latest verion: 1.54
    2) uninstalled the power manager comletely and then reinstalled it, then applied the updates bit by bit and checking the problem at each stage
    3) completely restored the entire system to factory setup (formatting the SSD and losing all data and settings...)
NONE of these options have worked. Please note that this is a brand new system out of the box... (cost 2800USD...)
Can anyone please confirm whether or not this happens on their system as well? Is it just me or is this a global problem? I've called the Lenovo ThinkVantage call centre in the US but they couldn't help.
    Thanks for your help,
    AMS.

This is clearly a bug in PM 1.54. I get the same thing with my old X40, Win XP, SP3. I've recently installed PM 1.54, and have the same problem. It has nothing to do with scheduled tasks, as (a) I don't have any (and don't run the Task Scheduler service on my machine), and (b) it happens immediately (ie. edits are lost as soon as I try to apply them).
Does anyone know if there is an official place to log bugs for TP software?
[editM also kicks in with the 'idle' timer while I'm working.I like its functions, but PM does seem buggy]

  • Can't disable auto screen brightness on M92z even after using power manager

I find the auto screen brightness annoying and have been trying to disable it.  When I go into power manager and turn off "auto" it works, but once I reboot, it's back on again.
I've gone into the sensor section of power manager and disabled the sensor but that too does not stick.  I've also checked that "magic brightness" setting as well.  Nothing seems to stick after a reboot.  Things work until I reboot.
I have installed the latest power manager, but 2 things seem strange.  website says latest version is 3.40.0002 but when download and install that version it reports 3.40.0001 (notice the 1 vs the 2).  Also in control panel it says power manager 32 bit but my OS is Windows 7 64 bit.
    Roveer

Alright, so this is ridiculous. Back to square one with nothing booting. I managed to get it booted up once fully, and another time booted off the OS10.3 disc (froze during disk repair in Disk Utility).
I don't have another hard drive to try, and I've taken it apart and reset everything.
    Any ideas?

  • Power Manager Brightness Control

i dont know whether this was intentional or not, but when the power gauge is not being displayed in the taskbar, the brightness settings defined in the power manager dont take effect on ac/battery switch events.
if this is a feature of the power manager, is there a way to make the brightness controls still work despite not having the gauge in the taskbar?

    Hi,
can you pleas edescribe, what version of Power Manager and Os are you using?
I have tested the current build of ThinkVantage Power Manager and did not experienced the situation as you described.
However to be honest I can imagine this being real, if one of the following in missing, or not up to date:
    - Power Management driver
    - Hotkey driver
    - System interface driver
Please check, whether you have all of these apps/drivers installer.
