Power on- comes up in Startup Repair

Model is L355-S7905 laptop.
Had a problem w/ booting up. At first it came up w/ system restore/recovery option as well as Startup Repair,
Chose Startup repair, which starts but then it goes to c:/windows/bfsvc.exe. This goes through 60 failed attempts at bootmgr.exe.mui. PF2 and PF12 keys work when booting but PF8 has no response.
Question is: if I buy the recovery CD's will this likely fix problem or should I start packing it up for
shipping to repair center? Thanks for any advice..charlie

So you have successfully reached the System Recovery Options menu, Charlie. There are all sorts of things we can try from there.
First thing is a System Restore. Try that and let us know the result.
..should I start packing it up for shipping to repair center?
In any case, I have no reason to believe that there is anything wrong with the hardware.

BSOD at power on: Startup Repair: Repeat: Unresponsive to anything

My situation seems different than the BSOD Win 7 issues I have read about. I can get no response.
Just got a new Lenovo G570 two weeks ago. Came loaded with Win 7 SP1 64 bit.
Now, at power up the BSOD flashes and goes to Startup Repair and then shuts itself down. Repeat. And repeat. And repeats with no response. The first run though it reported "AutoFailure" and "Unknown Cause." The second or third time, "AutoFailure" and "Unknown System Configuration Change."
Since I can get no response to anything, I pulled the power cord. Let it sit over night.
I booted from disc. (I get points for having burned the Recovery Disc!) The computer went directly to Startup Repair and reports: "AutoFailure" and "No root cause". I was able to get the computer to respond at this point and went to Advanced Options.
Ran the Memory test. No issues.
Then ran the Memory diagnotic tool from disc in Extended. Nothing.
I haven't had the computer long enough to create an Image. I do get points for having burned a Recovery Disc!
Of course, the System Restore can't find any of the auto Restore point or manual Restore points I created.
This may or may not be part of the problem. Originally the EE Bott Optimizer ran great. Then it crazy, continually rebooting, not allowing me to cancel and if I could get it to cancel, it would restart in a few minutes and shut the system down. I posted here and I was told uninstall and reinstall. So I did. Seem fine. A few hours latter....... not so good.
From what I have been reading, this sounded like a hardware failure. Two techs, not from Lenovo, have confirmed it is a hardware failure. Great, two weeks and...
Any way, any recommendations?

I am having a similr issue with my Lenovo G770. I usually escape out of the boot optimizer. Today I let it run and it went to the "starting windows" screen with a brief startup of the windows 7 animation...it freezes for a second, then a quick flash of the bsod, then to the "windows error recovery page" giving me the option of "starting windows normally" or "Launch Startup Repair (recommended)."
Starting Windows Normally eventually brings me back to the same place after repeating what I just stated above paragraph.
Startup Repair "Cannot repair this computer automatically".
So I go to view advanced options for system recovery and support.
It brings me to 5 options:
Startup Repair (we already tried this above)
System Restore (unfortunately I didn't create any restore points)
System Image Recovery (unfortunately I haven't created an image to recover)
Windows Memory Diagnostic (no problems found-done several times)
Command Prompt (don't know what I can do here except for remove a bad/corrupted driver which may be the problem, but I don't know the driver name that is associated with the boot optimizer...can anyone tell me this?)
I've tried booting to safe mode in all of its incarnations and I can't even do that..it repeats the same things as stated above...windows 7 animation briefly starts then locks up, flash of bsod, then the windows error recovery page.

The only thing that has given me any kind of result was "disabling system restart on system failure."  When I do this, the BSOD doesn't flash briefly..it stays. and it gives me the error message page_fault_in_nonpaged_area.
I'm at a loss as to what to do. Not being able to boot into Safe Mode even is really frustrating.  Any advise from anyone?  can I remove the driver associated with the boot optimizer? If so, what is the name of the driver?

Help! Laptop won't start up- startup repair goes to black screen!

Hi! Just wondering if anyone can help me with my toshiba laptop C650-152! I was online yesterday when my laptop froze and in the end i had to turn it off by cutting the power source! Today I have tried to turn it on and It keeps going to a black screen with white writing which asks if I want to Start it normally or do startup repair! If I press start normally it gets me to the windows start up screen (with the coloured logo) but then gets stuck there. If i press start up repair it goes to a black screen with a White mouse cursor and gets stuck there too! I can use a laptop just fine but am pretty clueless when it comes to technical matters so if anyone could help explain what I should do (in laymens terms) it would be much appreciated!! To burn the disc from an ISO file, Beth, you may need a third-party utility depending on the version of Windows. I use the free BurnCDCC burning program from here.

To use the disc do I just turn my laptop on..?
Something like this. Turn the computer on, load the disc, turn the computer off, start it again and then press F12 to get the boot-priority men, select the optical drive, follow the instructions (like choose a language and a Windows installation), and you're on your way to the Windows Recovery Environment.
Then will a menu appear so I can choose to do a system restore or do I have to search for it? Finally will doing a 'system restore' delete any of my saved data such as photos/music/uni work?

You need to reinstall OS X:
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

HP Envy 17-1181NR, Startup Repair / Recovery Manager / etc. not working

Okay, I've read some other similar threads made recently ("HP DV7 Recovery Issues", "HP Envy 17-2100ex") but feel I need to ask for help for my specific circumstances.

Noticed computer was running really slow last night and this morning, ctrl+alt+del to bring up task manager, eventually saw that somehow (maybe with a recent upgrade?) msmpeng.exe was started and running, though I had disabled it long ago. I killed the process tree within task manager.
Looked online and read how much of a bother this msmpeng.exe can be and resolved to disable it again to keep it from starting automatically at Windows startup. So following what I read, ctrl+r, typed msconfig, used that to disable the antimalware services that launch/use msmpeng.exe and a couple other services that seemed completely unnecessary (I was 95% sure).
Restarted machine to have changes take effect, came back to it minutes later frozen at a wallpaper that's blue with light rays coming down through it, as with sunlight through water. Mouse cursor moves, but unresponsive to all keyboard and mouse button input. Later discovered this screen is the background to the Recovery Manager, which was hung...
Later discovered what had happened: that on the first restart, starting Windows normally, it reached a BSOD with message:
"UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" ...blah, blah, blah, * * * STOP: 0x000000ED (0xFFFFFA80064D8C00,0xFFFFFFFFC0000185,0x00000...,0x00000...
Which flashed for a split second before auto-restart, this time stopping at "Windows Error Recovery" screen giving choice between "Launch Startup Repair" and "Start Windows Normally" again. The former happened automatically after 30 second or whatever time delay, and then after loading files, hung at the water-screen described earlier. I can repeatably encounter these two outcomes for the two choices on the "Windows Error Recovery" screen.
Hitting escape after restart, and hitting F11 for "System Recovery" takes me to same water-screen hang point. I tried looking at system info, then doing system diagnostics, tried different scans and eventually the system tune-up scan. This failed with:
Memory Test: PASSED
SMART Check: PASSED
Short DSTL FAILED
FAILURE ID: 94UFL3-5B65QF-XD002K-6OUL03
PRODUCT ID: YL747UA#ABA
Hard Disk 1
This made me think of a disc error and that I can't trust Recovery Manager to be launched correctly from the recovery partition, D:, so I popped in my recovery DVD (first of 5 burned from recovery partition much earlier). Choosing repair options in the startup from this disk, after changing the boot device order in the BIOS settings (F10), brought me to the very same hanging at the water-screen.
I then tried F8 for "Advanced Boot Options" and various safe modes with the intent of reaching a command prompt to run "chkdsk /f /r" and/or "fixboot". But it can't get past loading the CLASSPNP.SYS driver. And without a command prompt now, I can't very easily copy in a pristine CLASSPNP.SYS from matching model / OS.
Is this HDD gone bad, just coincidentally with what I'd changed? Or is this a software issue as I'd be inclined to believe? Any thoughts or inputs from anyone will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Windows 7 Pro x64 now BSOD just as it is starting and Startup Repair has failed

As the title says, a few days ago my Windows 7 Pro x64 started to BSOD just as Windows is starting but the error screen disappears immediately.
Startup Repair fails and has Problem Signature 04: 21199350
I have used the Windows 7 Pro installation DVD and opened its Command Prompt option and then run the chkdsk and sfc programs but no errors were reported. Also, I ran bootrec with /fixmbr then with /fixboot and finally with /rebuildbcd but it made no difference.
After a failure, the next time I turn on the PC I am offered to repair Windows or to start windows normally. Using the repair from here didn't work as also happened when I chose the repair option from the Windows 7 Pro installation DVD.
Holding down the f8 key when Windows is starting doesn't make any difference.
BTW, the crash happens as the 4 small parts of windows are approaching each other on the Windows start screen.
I can access my hard disk by attaching it to my laptop. If the error 21199350 reported by Startup Repair failure is not the BSOD error, will this be recorded in a file each time it happens? If so, which file?
Any help will be greatly appreciated as I dread having to reinstall Windows 7 Pro from scratch again and all the many programs I spent ages installing.

Sorry for the delay in replying.
This evening I managed to modify the PC registry from the Startup Repair command window so it wouldn't reboot on BSOD.
Used regedit.exe to modify the following in the PC's registry (I followed the 17 July 2011 Terra-byte "Modify the Windows Registry from Startup Repair" article):
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\CrashControl] and set AutoReboot to 0x00000000.
and also for ControlSet002.
The BSOD error is: 0x0000007B which seems to be a device driver problem.
Would my problem be caused by my installing 2x 2GB DIMMs that I bought on eBay into my Abit AB9 Pro motherboard's two free slots (the other two slots each have 1GB DIMMs) but on power on nothing happened?
Removing the two new DIMMs the PC powered on but then resulted in BSOD.

Error 0x000000tB is a very often reported error. It means INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE. Either something in your BIOS changed the type of storage device (AHCI -> IDE) or your HDD is experiencing a possible failure.

Startup Repair Not Starting

A friend recommended installing Spybot and Malwarebytes onto my computer. I installed and ran them. At the end of that, it asked me to restart the computer. I did, and now I can't get my computer to boot up.
It either:
a) goes to a black screen with it saying "Starting Windows" without ever starting
b) goes to a blue screen if I try any of the repair/recovery options
c) goes to a "loading Windows Files" screen if I try to start any of the "Safe" modes.
I've tried F8, F9, F10, F11 and Esc.
I've tried almost all of the options in F8. The repair options goes to b), the safe options go to c) and rebooting goes to a).
F9 diagnosed the problem with "Error Code: BIOHD-3. No Bootable Device Detected"
F10 and Esc led to screens that I'm not quite sure how they might help but they did bring up screens.
F11 led to b)
Basically it seems like it wants to go to the repair/recovery menus. I found a couple sites that show me what *should* happen. Like this site...

I've seen the first 3 screens, but then where it shows the menu "System Recovery Options"... that menu just never comes up, though I am on that blue screen. It seems like it wants to bring it up but never does.
I've tried 4 different recovery discs, they all seem to lead to that same place, that blue screen without the menu coming up.
So... any ideas of what to do?
If I disconnected the hard drive from that computer, and then attached it to another computer with the intent of using it as an external hard drive... would it work? Or would the issues I describe prevent me from doing anything with it? Is it just now a large paperweight now?

If I was watching videos or tried to bring up Firefox, it would just freeze my computer and I couldn't do anything. Rebooting allowed to get back to windows, but I could not watch any videos or bring up Firefox. Internet Explorer did work. It may be that the Hard Drive itself is failing, which may also explain the previous issue you describe.
Try the following.
Create a Windows 7 Recovery CD and try running 'Start-up Repair' from this. Download the relevant ISO from the links below - I've included the 32bit Image just in case.
Windows 7 32bit
Windows 7 64bit
You should use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO to a CD. Once created, or if you already have this, insert the CD and restart to boot from it. Select the Repair option.
Select the 'Repair your Computer' option and follow Option 2 in the guide on the link below to run Startup Repair - if this will now run, you may well need to try this 2 - 3 times.

My computer has been taken over at startup by Startup repair.

when i first start my computer a program calling itself startup repair begins to run.It scans for about 5 minutes during which time I can do nothing with my computer.I have gone to add,remove programs to uninstall it ,but can find no listing of such anywhere.I have not installed anything like this to my knowledge.

How do I run Win7 Startup Repair from USB to repair Bootcamp installation?

I messed up my bootcamp partition after resizing the OSX partition to give it more space so I found this fix - http://mourougan.com/2013/06/22/repairing-boot-camp-after-creating-new-partition /
The fix worked in that the windows partition now shows up on startup manager but when I try to load it the 'missing operating system' error message shows.
So I need to run Startup Repair from USB but when I try that from startup manager it just gives a black screen and blinking cursor, nothing happens from there...
Can anyone help with getting startup repair to load? any advice greatly appreciated.

Hp Pavilion G6 "Launch Startup Repair" problem

I have had my Hp Pavilion G6 series laptop for a year or so, and a couple days ago it froze while I using it. I turned it off, and when I got back on a black screen came up titled "Windows Error Recovery". It had two options -Launch Startup Repair
-Start Windows Normally
I decided launching startup repair sounded like the right option, so I clicked it, and it did something like it was loading. Then it brought me to a grey screen, and it hasn't gotten passed this screen since. I've attempted starting windows normally, but it loads for 5-10 seconds then returns to the "Windows Error Recovery" screen. I'm very frustrated with this, and do not know what to do about it. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Startup Repair Offline: Unable to fix problem and beep codes

Hi,
I have an issue with my PC startup and boot,
My PC Model: Lenovo H330, Windows 7, i5 Intel processor.
Basically on the first attempt at booting, my pc plays a beep code which sounds like = 'beep-beep' + 'beep-beep-beep' followed by a blank screen, on a second attempt the pc boots fine.
I believe this is 1 long and 3 short, the code does not seem to be in the Lenovo Bios support guide to beep codes, not only this but when I attempt Startup Repair in order to fix the problem it states it has
failed to fix the problem, details below:

First of all ,follow Parvesh_s`s answer ,check the BIOS settings .We may need to reset the BIOS settings to have a check.
If the issue persists ,take the KrisM771`s method to repair with an installation media.
If the auto repair will not work ,take the alebcay`s suggestion .Repair it with the command .

BootCamp Partition- Missing Operating System Windows Startup Repair

I made the mistake of creating a new partition on my HD with an existing Boot Camp partition. I tried to follow the advice of Loner T in this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6574886, and got made the Windows installation bootable. Upon starting up Windows the screen displayed 'Missing Operating System', I tried doing a Windows Startup Repair using the Windows Installation Media without any luck.

My HP Pavilion dv6 (model # : dv6t-6c00) is experiencing some errors. i turned it off today. went back to the computer, opened it, hit the power button. i got the typical bios screen, start normally, or safe mode, etc. after selecting start normaly it took some time to get through to the login screen, then from there it took a while to get to my home screen. once here i figured i might try starting up again. hit ctrl+alt+del, went to task manager, shut everything off as nothing was responding, then proceded to shut down the device. i started it back up, went into bios screen. this time i got the "start normaly," or "run start up repair (recommened)" i ran the start up repair, nothing. i let it run for another hour or so. then went to the boot screen. went to the windows screen, then the log in. i logged in, it was still slow. my biggest concern was why i was prompted to run start up repair? andthen why it haddnt fixed anyhting. currently i can only get into the laptop in safe mode with networking. ive backed up all pictures, music, document, etc on an external drive. Would i get a recovery disc and restore it to the way i first got it? or is there some other sort of error that needs to be repaired in the unit. I thnak you for your help in advance. Thank you.

As i see you have couple of option you could still try.
1) Do a Msconfig
2) Once unit is powered on keep tapping the F11 key then try System Restore or a recovery this should resolve your issue.

Computer Stuck at Startup Repair

Last night I ran a chkdsk. It took awhile, and it was towards the end of the night and I fell asleep. When I woke up it said chkdsk complete but under it said an error occurred. I reset using the power button. When it booted back up it would stay stuck at a blue screen with the cursor. I tried safe mode and the other options in f8 and still the same issue. When I tried it again, Startup repair came up and now it's taking forever saying, searching for problems.

Do you have recovery media with you, which you must have created after setting up the laptop first time?
Please test the hard drive - quick & extensive from BIOS, tap away f2 or ESC key as soon as you power on the laptop, enter System Diagnostics and do the tests. Wait for it to finish.

Toshiba Satellite C50 Startup Repair not working

Right, first off I am not very technologically savvy so apologies if I sound like I've no idea what I'm talking about because, really I don't.
My Toshiba Satellite C50 froze last night and I had no other option but to hold the power button down to turn it off. When it switched back on again it froze at the start screen as Windows was opening. Alas, I had no other option but to press the power button down again, this time taking me to the Startup repair screen. Now I've ran this about 10 times and it keeps running forever, not solving any repair issues at all. Every time I try to start Windows normally it freezes at the same Windows is loading screen.
Also I cannot find the recovery disk that came with the laptop and have tried F8 but every option seems to take me to the Startup repair screen again which isn't solving anything.
Please help!

There won't be a physical disc, no manufacturer's provide those nowadays. You can access the hard drive's recovery partition, which provides similar functionality, by holding the zero key while booting up, form there you can restore to the out of the box state. That will wipe all data on the drive, but if the hardware is still functional that should resolve the issue.
