Power ON/OFF computer - click sound with red light?

Greetings,
when I power ON my Mac Pro, a small red light blips inside my computer and there's some sort of "click" sound, it is as if I unplug an active device from a power outlet. The same thing happens when I power OFF my Mac Pro. Is that normal?

Wow that's strange, I just had the same thing after disassembling my MacPro to clean the CPU heat sinks.
Is the red light on one of the RAM riser cards, if it is there a 4 red LEDs that correspond to the RAM slots on the card. If either LED 1 or 2 are blinking, try reseating the inner pair of RAM chips, if LED 3 or 4 are blinking try reseating the outer pair on that card.
If that does not work try removing the pair in question, but be sure to leave the remaining pair in the inner 2 slots. You may have had a RAM chip go bad.
Hopefully this helps.

This is probably really easy but is there some way to turn

    Hi Gary
Are you using Captivate 4? If so, it now sports such an
    option!
If not, you will need to replace the click sound file with a
    silent file to achieve it.

  • Motion 5 clicking sound with audio

Anyone else notice that Motion 5 creates a clicking sound with your audio if you raise the volume, yet isn't redlining in the meter? That's what's happening to me. I have an AIF voiceover and I raised the volume by 3 and even though the audio meter is still in the green, I'm getting clicking sounds in Motion during playback, but also in the movie exported.
    Thoughts?
    Thank you!

The project was set to 59.97 fps. I created a new one at 29.97 and clicking went away.

Seagate FreeAgent Go is making a clicking sound and the light is rapidly blinking. My Macbook is no longer recognizing it. Is there any way to pull all the songs I have saved on it? The SeaAgent is less than a month old!
Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
Or at least recover the lost data?
    Thanks!

How to fix: the drive is in warranty, so contact Seagate for a replacement.
How to recover your data: Do you have backups? (If not, you really, really, should.)
You can try downloading Data Rescue, which will run in trial mode and let you know if the data is recoverable. (You can then choose to purchase the full version if it works for you.) A clicking drive, though, is usually (though not always) a sign that the drive cannot be recovered.

  • Clicking sound with new P5800 Speakers

I just purchased the P5800 set and took off some cambridge soundworks speakers. The P5800 speakers have this annoying clicking sound. What is odd is that you hear the clicking sound as soon as you turn on the speakers but if you turn the volume level up about 2/3's to full volume the clicking goes away. I hear it when nothing else is playing. What could be causing this? If I can't fix it I will be taking the P5800's back and setting up my other speaker set.
    Can you help?
    Thanks,
    Ken Scott

I've had this happen with another laptop. It would click away but work fine for a few weeks. After that, the system would often stop responding momentarily but come back to life in a couple of seconds. I started seeing plenty of data corruption in time, threw out the drive and got a new one.
Yours could behave differently but I'd continue with the time machine backups like there's no tomorrow! Btw, I've had mixed results with the WD blues, both the scorpio and caviar.

Does anyone else have the problem of clicking on something, say, for instance the red light, and then getting a little box of writing which obscures the red light so that nothing happens.  I am getting terribly bored with this problem.  It happens over and over again and then eventually I click again and the box with writing goes away and I can clcik the red light.  Difficult to explain.

Can you provide a screen shot of this "Red light" phenomenon?

On the N80 you can by putting it on silent turn off the camera sound wich i found very annoying! That is sooo nokia, there is no option for turning of the camera sound, only an option for choosing between 4 different sounds, however you can easy disable the sound by putting the phones profile to silent, haha rediculus!

  • Clicking sound with haptics

Whenever I adjust the haptic force in settings, there is an audible click noise with the haptic.  It even occurs when the sound is muted.  Is this normal?  It seems that mute should be totally silent.

I get the same thing and was curious so I did some actual testing with real notifications and there is no sound when audio is muted and a notification comes in.

Turn on silent mode, simple toggle the switch on the side of the phone. If you see the orange dot your in it. Then you wont here the sounds, but remember to flip it back so you'll hear ringtones if you want to.;)

  • IBook G4 with red light on charger

    Hello,
I have this problem of starting up my iBook G4. It doesn't turn on at all when I press the power button.
At first, I thought it was low on battery. So, I charged it and the red light is on no matter how long I charged it. May I know what does the red light represents?
    Does anyone encounter this problem?
    Thanks in advance, guys.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I don't know if this will even be relevant to your situation, but there is an article which talks about the red light with regard to powerbooks:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=18241
One question would be whether this battery and charger worked properly in the past, or if one of them has been replaced. The article made it sound like some batteries and chargers do not work together, and if you replaced one or the other, there might be some incompatibility.
Hopefully someone who really knows about this will post back. I don't have any personal experience with this--I just remember reading about it in this article.
    Good luck!

  • No sound and red light

I have no sound and when I turn the volume up there's "a circle with a line through it" there is a red light coming out of the earphone socket. I tried unplugging it and it worked but I want to use my headphones sometimes and when I take them back out it goes back to the red light. I tried changing the settings to internal speakers but when I went to "Choose a device for sound output" there was only "Digital Out". How do I select internal speakers when they're not there, how do I fix this problem?

So my internal speakers stopped working around 9-12 months ago, along with it the all-too-familiar red light in the headphone jack. Tried all the toothpick (actually recommended by an Apple tech), headphone in-and-out, paper-clippy, throw salt over-your-shoulder ideas posted out there; all to no avail. Nothing would get that switch inside to pop back from it's position, and let my computer know that there was nothing plugged into the jack. After all that and NEAR A YEAR of no internal speakers, they inexplicably started working again the other day. I think what happened was that I had neglected to notice that my headphones were plugged in still when I tried to put my laptop in the case, and slightly tweaked the headphone jack port when the headphone jack hit the side of the case. Whatever you do, don't let anyone convince you that it's a logic board or I/O board failure. It seems very likely an obnoxious flaw in the jack's design, and I'm not surprised many people can get it working again by poking around and getting the switch inside the jack to return to its position.
This computer has been a workhorse for me and OSX is a great design, but If I were to issue one complaint about Apple it would be to stand behind thier hardware better (I've had other problems before too). I feel like they could have issued a proper procedure to fix this problem so that everyone with issues like this doesn't have pull thier hair out searching forums for solutions and getting unnecessary expensive repairs.

  • Seven Drives with Red Lights; Admin won't Connect

We are setting up an XServe RAID tonight for the first time. Connected to G5 Quad, using the smaller Fiber Channel connector cable. Using 500 gig drives. New drives, but used Xserve, from SmallDog.
    1. When we open RAID ADMIN, we get no choices for IP Address.
    2. If it's worth anything, we have a Quadro 4500 video card in there. Takes up two slots. (Possible concern about power consumption).
    3. We have the Apple Fiber Card in the topmost slot in the G5, Slot #4. That slot is labeled 4x.
    4. We have seven drives installed in the left side of the xServe RAID. All seven drives show the red failure light. The Security switch is set to unlock.
    5. We do not know what version of the firmware we're running, because when we do ADD SYSTEM, we can't add the System at all. We get "Connection Failure".
    Any thoughts? Thank you.

In this case, Xserve would not affect the status or function of the Xserve RAID.
    1. When we open RAID ADMIN, we get no choices for IP
    Address.
I assume what you mean is you did an 'add' in RAID ADMIN and cannot find any Xserve RAID listed so you cannot select an Xserve RAID to be included. Out of the box, Xserve RAID should be set to provide a default address through Bonjour or if there is an DHCP server on the network, it will receive a DHCP address.
You may setup a direct ethernet connection between your mac and the Xserve RAID network port and see if it's a network switch issue (bonjour only works within the same network)
The next step is you may need to reset the raid controller (on Xserve RAID). If the array is preconfigured with a static ip address (normally this should NOT be the case), then you may need to reset the controller.

    This is very strange.
Have you tried to power off the array, pull out each drives and make sure the connector is in good condition gently insert each drive back. If possible, reseat the controller module at the back of the array.
    5. We do not know what version of the firmware we're
running, because when we do ADD SYSTEM, we can't add
the System at all. We get "Connection Failure".
Correct but the array should not give you red light even if the firmware is not up to date. (well, anything can happen but I have not seen it yet.)
    Any thoughts? Thank you.

  • My blackberry z30 does not turn on with red light flashing

hi i have a blackberry z30 , after charging my blackberry z30 it does not turn on and show me a red light blinking 5 times...what i should do? please help.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain directly connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB, not a cradle):Connect your BB to the wall chargerLeave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display doesHold the up/down volume keys until the device is fully powered offWait 15 minutesPower up normallyWait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display doesThis has been known to "kick start" some BBs. If it fails, then please try again but increase the step 4 wait time to 2 hours, and perhaps as long as 4-5 hours. If it fails to help, then your next step is in-person evaluation by a qualified technician. If you remain in warranty, seek support under those terms. If you have no warranty, then seek out a local (to you) shop with a qualified technician and have them provide you with a proper evaluation and estimate.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Constant restart and "clicking" sound with the apple logo reappearing.

my iPod(80 GB) is stuck on the apple logo screen and it keeps shutting off and starting up and shutting off.. so on and so forth. I tried restoring it when i connect it to my computer but it won't get past the actual restore part. It gets all the way through the "extracting software" step and then once it hits the "restore" step it stops about half way through it and says an unknown error has occured(1439) or something like that. I looked that up and it says to try a bunch of different things and i've tried them all and nothing seems to work, not even putting it into disk mode. And once i take it out of Disk Mode a black screen with a white apple logo pops up like it wants to restore or whatever and that loads about 3/4 of the way and then goes right back to the grey screen with the apple logo and continues to go on and off. If anyone has any suggestions let me know because I'm to the point where I will launch this thing at a wall. It's SOO frustrating.

oh... didn't realize you also had a 'corrupt ipod' message.. so far i've been spared that one.
On an early ipod i had that message regularly after a couple of years, and it only went away when i did what i was about to do now: format the thing in mac, then go back and reformat it in Windows. I've no idea at all why that worked,or even whether it "should" work, but, with an old model it did. That particular ipod originally started malfunctioning, i think, due to my own carelessness - i'd left in on the dashboard of my van for a whole day in the sun of a very hot summer. I don't think anything electronic is over-fond of that kind of treatment... whatever, the corruption got cured but the battery gave up not very long after.
Otherwise, i know we're dealing with XP here, not Vista, but a couple of interesting articles on a Windows blog may have a degree of relevance:

i guess i know what you mean about never using apple products again.. I haven't got that far, and don't really expect to, but I said it several times, not always entirely fairly, about Microsoft, when forced to work in nothing but Windows (I've preferred Mac as a basic system for about as long as I can remember...). Seems like Apple, now that they're selling more stuff, are doing what is often so irritating about Microsoft - rushing new stuff out with plenty of wonderful features and selling points but inadequate practical testing...

  • STUCK on white screen with battery icon in the middle with RED LIGHT

I have BB curve 8900 and my BB shutdown by itself yesterday and it wont start on again !
so i charged it the red LED start to show and white screen with battery icon in the middle it looks like empty battery, and stuck on it and sometimes it keeps spinning over and over again until it bcome black screen then it starts the same begining !
I tried the hard boot by taking the battery out for sometime and reinstalled it but it didn't work. I even try putting a different battery (friends battery) but still no joy..
and the main catch is if i try taking out the battery and plug the charger or connects it to the laptop it does the same thing without even any battery in it.
So is it really a Battery problem or the OS problem.?? (If its a OS problem, can u install it myself at home.?
    Waiting for the reply

if it does not boot then..??
Well, you need to do as suggested first.
Then, if not: If your BlackBerry stays powered off with a black screen, follow the instructions below. The only indication of life might be the blinking red LED light in the top corner. Nothing seems to wake it up and Desktop Manager doesn't recognize any device is connected.
    1) Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
    2) On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):
    "c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm
    3) The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."
    4) In the "Connection:" drop-down menu, you should see "USB-PIN: UNKNOWN". Click the "Next" button.
    5) You should then see a list of applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Hit Next and Finish and you are well on your way to getting your Blackberry back to life. Congrats! Just don't disconnect anything and let the lengthy process finish completely.
NOTE: If you do not see a list of applications mentioned in step 5 and instead see the message "The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator," then you must download Blackberry's Operating System for your carrier and device.
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Operating_System_Downloads
Just select the appropriate carrier and network type, select your Blackberry model from the list and download the latest version. Install this download and follow the above steps again and you should be on the right path.
