Power on-Power off issues with X200

I am having power up and power down issues with my Lenovo X200.
Prior to the immediate problem, I would experience occasional unexpected shutdown of the computer (I would hear a relay click when it happened), and on some occasions when I put it into hibernation, then power it back up later it would not resume, instead, it would restart with a new session of Windows.
About a month ago, it shut down while I was using it.  I powered it back on, but it took a long time (nearly a minute) to get the “ThinkPad” initial boot screen, then the screen would be blank for about a minute, then I would get a screen that read, “Intel Management Engine BIOS Extension v 4.0.4.0007” and also “M.E Initializing……”   That screen would show for about a minute, then I got another screen reading “Security chip is generating endorsement key pair.  Please wait.”  That screen would show for about 5 minutes, then it would read, “Generation failed!!!” for about 5 seconds.  After that, it would boot to Windows (I am using Windows 7 Professional).
When I would shut it down, either in hibernate mode or full shutdown, after the hard drive icon stopped flashing (indicating it had shut down), the power icon, battery icon would stay on, and the “sleep” icon would flash.  I would have to hold the power button down to turn those icons off; if I failed to do that the power would stay on until the battery completely drained.
I read something about the “Security chip is generating endorsement key pair” message so I went into BIOS and changed the security chip from “Active” to “Inactive”.  However, when I would start the computer with the chip “inactive”, it would go first to the initial boot screen, then to the “M.E. Initializing” message, then the screen would go blank and remain blank, not ever booting to Windows.  So I went back to BIOS and changed the security chip to “Disabled”.  With it disabled, it will boot up, but still is very slow booting and I still get that “M.E. Intializing” message for about a minute, and also I still have to hold the power button down to power down the computer after I shut it down (or hibernate) with Windows.
The good news is that, after this started happening, I have not encountered an unexpected shutdown nor has it failed to resume the previous windows session if I hibernate it.
Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance for your help.

The difference may be that the G5 iMac bus (where your fire wire plugs into the back) is a powered bus. What this means is the LaCie drive will "sense" the power from the bus and not turn off. The power it gets from the fire wire bus however may (is) not be enough to actually operate it, only leave it on. You still need to the drive into a power outlet.
In the LaCie manual (CD that comes with drive) and the FAQ section of LaCie's web page it states this as well.
What I do is manually turn the drive on when needed (performing back up or for scheduled back up). The LaCie drive should be quiet when not in use as it has no fan.
PS - try SuperDuper for backups, much better (IMHO) than Silverkeeper.

  • Drop off issue with Logic 9.1.3 (OSX 10.6.7) and TouchOSC 1.6.4

I've reinstalled fresh 10.6.7 on a new drive, with latest LogicPro 9.1.3. Then I've configured it with TouchOSC 1.6.4, and noticed a very strange behavior.
Basically, when the Logic starts, it initializes OSC service, and thus I can connect to it with TouchOSC on my iPad. But, if I switch the focus from Logic to other application, say, Preview, Logic drops its OSC service off, and there is no way to revive it unless to restart Logic.
Just verified on my Mac Mini - similar setup works just fine. The only difference, I believe, is in OS version (10.6.6).
Is this due to recent update of OS? How can I tell Logic to keep OSC service up and running even if in background?

I'm responding to my own question - it might be interesting for someone. The reason of such disconnect was in default value of "Bypass All while in background" set at Preferences/Control Surfaces/General tab.

  • Issue with graphics tearing on thumb scroll in Flex 3

We are seeing some off issues with graphics (one using the charting package and the other using degrafa) tearing on thumb scrolling in a large Flex 3 app.  It's very hard to reproduce on OSX with the latest versions of Safari and Firefox, but it shows almost immediately when you run the app on Windows or Linux (regardless of the browser).  I took one of the pieces out of the app and put it into a very simple testbed app and can't get the problem to show on Windows (i was hoping to isolate the issue in a smaller test case, but no such luck).
So, ii've got a few idea's on how to work around the issue, but i was wondering if anyone else has seen this type of problem before?
    Problem:
         - graphics tear on thumb scroll
         - doesn't happen if you click in the track or use the arrows
         - one view is using the charting package, the other view is using degrafa
Thanks for any comments or suggestions...

  • Z87-G65 power issue with usb(port reset failed)

    All,
I'm having an issue with my motherboard and wanted to see if anyone had suggestions.  In windows 8.1 if I have my webcam or external hard drive plugged in USB.  I get this error the the USB device is not recognized and the port reset failed(code 43).  I noticed when I turn on the PC and it's booting the light on the webcam and hard drive flash like it's not drawing enough power to stay on.  The boot sticks at 9c on the screen and I have to reset.  When windows boots they turn off.    Since it's before windows boots I think this is either a MB issue or a power supply issue.  I have a corsair 750 watt power supply so plenty of power.  Any ideas?

  • Wifi, power and cooling issues with my MacBook Pro.

I've had my MacBook Pro for about 2 years and I've been really pleased with its performance from work I've thrown at it. I initially got this MacBook Pro refurbished from the Mac store and it has a Apple Care protection plan. Although this past year I've noticed several issues that are probably hardware related. First, my MacBook's WiFi does not receive WiFi signals from the great distances it used to anymore. The times I can pick up WiFi are within like 5 yards from my wireless router. Second, I'm having an issue with the power. This past week, it seems my Macbook Pro does not run off the battery anymore. It only powers on when connected into the power supply. If I unplug the power supply, my Macbook turns off. It does not revert to the battery which is strange. Third, cooling seems to be a problem. The Macbook Pro is getting very hot. It burns my lap when it is holding there. The cooling problem has lasted since I got my Macbook back in January of 2007. I thought it was normal since I would load the CPU with some graphics intensive games. Now the Macbook Pro gets hot to doing some less CPU intensive tasks like surfing the web or word processing. I have noticed, a decrease in performance, longer boot times, loading of web browsers, and word processing applications. Would this be the best time to consider taking my Macbook Pro and for repair with apple care? I'd like to trouble shoot these issues to know exactly why these problems are happening. I have a feeling it could be due to the Macbook Pro getting hot. As for cooling I go by the manual and place it on a table or hard surface, or my lap. I pretty much want to know what is wrog and how to prevent issues like this in the future.
    Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
It sounds like you have several issues:
I don't know why your MBP can only receive wireless signals from 5 feet away. Unless possibly the antenna has worked loose. But I'm just guessing.
Regarding the power, is your battery still good? Have you tried resetting the SMC?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411?viewlocale=en_US
Regarding the heat issue, have you tried running the extended version of the Apple Hardware Test? If you check your fans with iStatPro, are both running at an appropriate speed for the heat?
Also, have you checked in Activity Monitor for any out of control processes which might be running in the background and hogging the CPU?
A good place to start would be with the AHT. Since you have Applecare, you should also have a Tech Tool Deluxe disc, and you can run that too. Should anything turn up in the form of an error code, that would indicate a hardware problem. Write down the code and call Apple to arrange for repair.
If you have access to an Apple Store, you could also just take your Mac in for evaluation.
    Good luck!

  • 865PE power off issues

i got a ancient 865pe neo-2 ect..... i have been having issues with it not powering off, i got a new power supply (figured i killed the old with overloading it) i installed the new one and it will not power off like a ATX power supply should.
i can hold the button and it will turn off
i never changed the power settings, but something could be a-mis there. what settings do i need to have set
i believe windows tells it to power down cause i hear the hard drives spin down after the shutdown splash goes away (xp)
    i looked at the FAQ
    i cannot set s5 or g3 as modes. i have bios 9/29/04
    9. Power Management
    Q: What are S1/POS and S3/STR modes?
S1/POS = Power On Suspend, nothing turn off just that everything is running in extremely slow.
S3/STR = Suspend to RAM, PSU only powers 5V_STBY to the board for RAM refreshing, the rest all off.
    Additionally,
S4 = Suspend to Disk. Win2k/XP calls it "Hibernation" mode. In this mode, the RAM and CPU state images are copied into the HDD. After S4 mode, you can safely remove the power cord.
S5 = Soft Off. PSU still supplies 5V_STBY.
G3 = mechanical off. No power at all to the board.
Q: Where to set the standby modes?
For S1 and S3, you can set the standby mode to either S1 or S3, not both, in the BIOS. Note that Windows cannot choose which standby mode to run. You have to set it in the BIOS.
For S4, you can only set it in Windows 2k/XP (and ME, but not 98).

the 4 pin breakaway is just hanging there, the other 4 pin is plugged in near the cpu
no it stopped shutting off when i think i overloaded the 500w, the 750 does the same thing,
upon installing the 750 it does not shut off properly, which now leads to yet another bad board(the first one had a LGA socket that was eating cpus) or a bios issue
the 500w was not putting out the volts i needed so i figured it was dead
my voltages are better now though, before they were 11.2-12.0 and i think the +3 was 2.5ish, now they are +12.59 and +3.14 vcc is 5.04
    bios stats it is 9/29/04
    specs are as follows
MSI 865PE Neo-2P (or similar i cant think of the exact name)
    p4 3.2e presshot 800fbs 1mb cache
2048mb ultra dual channel ddr 400 (pc 3200)

    WD SATA 160gb hdd
nVidia 7800 GS OC (bfg tech) AGP vid card
    sony burners and flopppy drive
and the ultra x-2 750w power supply
2 case fans, a hdd fan, 2 on the psu , one on the cpu and one on the vid card,
damn cpu gets near 80*c but that normal for this cpu (considering im idleing at 50*c right now, with a case temp or 36*c)

  • Leopard issues with G5 Power Mac

Here is a list of Leopard issues I have encountered with my G5 Power Mac. my machine is a dual 2.0 with 6 GB RAM. I have 2 hard drives, 1 500 and 1 750. I amusing the ATI x1900 G5 mac Edition card powering 2 Apple Cinema Displays.
    1) the x1900 G5 Power mac Edition card has some serious issues with Leopard. Terrible redraws, artifacting and kernel panics seem to be caused by the use of this card under Leopard. The latest drivers on the ATI site are for Tiger.
    2) Adobe CS3 installs, but the install crashes repeatedly and you have to keep retrying. This does not happen on Tiger.
    3) Many other apps are quirky under Leopard, as are some peripherals. For example, my Microtek ScanMaker 9800 XL large format scanner works fine, but if you are saving a scanned image you are limited to one letter for the name of the image in the "Save As" dialogue.
These are some of the issues that have caused me to go back to Tiger, where everything just works.

I've got a G5 Quad with the ATI x1900 powering 2 monitors (including a 30" cinema), and leopard indeed ***** with this setup. I've troubleshot for more time than it's worth, but the setup has become ALMOST workable with a few changes. by turning off spaces, cleaning out the card's cooling system itself (dust), and NEVER EVER putting the machine to sleep, it rarely kernel panics.
This is the second X1900 (first 1 was replaced by ATI for overheating/locking up problems about a year ago with 10.4). - It seems once the card overheats to a certain degree, it fails constantly no matter what you do.
When 10.5 was first installed, it locked up and the fans kicked into overdrive about 7 or 8 times a day for no apparent reason. The machine would go to sleep fine but after about 30 seconds or so, it would kick the fans up to full and no video would come on. The screensaver caused the same problem. If the video did come back, it seemed to lock up all USB traffic when it did so.
Now, after 2 weeks of fighting with it, it only freezes once a day or so. I know Apple released a firmware update for the MacPro version of this card, but the G5 version has a different firmware, and so far nothing's come from ATI.
The problem is gone in Tiger, so it's definitely a software/driver/firmware issue. Hopefully Apple and ATI fix this thing before I have to revert to using the lame NV6600 that came with the machine. 'Be nice if the people who spent the money on "top-of-the-line" got the same amount of time and tech development devoted to them as the masses. - It seems the MacPro users with the ATI X1900 card are in the same boat as us though. (Gee - some consolation.)

  • Does PCI6534 have issues with power on io's and host cpu not powered

Are there any issues with the PCI6534 when the io has power applied and one boots the host CPU?

    Hello;
I couldn't understand exactly what you meant by that.
I'm assuming you are asking if you will damage the board in case the I/Os are active and the CPU is turned off. If that is the question, the answer is no, you won't damage the DAQ device.
    Hope this helps.

  • Issue with computer crashing and saying i have no battery power!

I have been having an issue when the power cord is not connected and my macbook pro w/ retina has been powering off and when i press the power button it says that i have no battery. When i plug the computer in it will turn on fine, then the battery says that there is battery power still. I think it may be a graphics card issue but I'm not sure. THIS HAS ONLY BEEN GOING ON SINCE I HAVE UPDATED TO YOSEMITE! Why is this issue happening and what can i do to fix it??

    Hi tyler260,
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with the Yosemite update. If you are having unusual power or battery issues on your MacBook Pro since the install, you may want to try resetting the System Management Controller (SMC), as outlined in the following article:

If you are still having issues after the SMC reset, you may also find this article helpful:

  • POWER OFF ISSUE K8 NEO4 PLATINUM (DON´T SHUTDOWN ALWAYS RESTART)

I have a strange behavior with my main board.  It has worked well for almost three years. But now, I decided to change everything to a new case, and I decided to upgrade from XP to Windows Vista (no real upgrade, I format my hard disk and perform a clean install). And I have something very strange happened.
Every time I shut down the computer, performs the process smoothly, and when it goes off, the computer is restarted automatically. Do not stay off.
It's the same if keep pressing the power button for about two seconds. (in post for example)  It seem to be shut down, the fans almost stopped immediately but the computer starts up again.
The only way to turn it off is to keep pressing the power button more than seven seconds. But I cannot turn off normally from the command “shut down” Windows.
I tried several solutions, without any success:
Try several power buttons on of different cases: Also,  I have to manually shutdown the computer joining the pins of the ignition of the mainboard ( Not worry, I have been careful not to make any short circuit)
Test setup minimum, only memory, processor and video card. ( We also tried another video card and other memory).
    Try different power supplies.
Disable all peripherals in the bios. (usb, parallel and com port, audio, lan, ATA, SATA, raid, IRD. IE1934, floppy, etc)
Change all possible power configurations of the bios:
    IOAPIC Function (enable and disable)
    MPS: (1.4 and 1.1).
ACPI Standby State (S1 and S3)
    Video Off Method (all options)
Power Button Function (power off and suspend)
Restore On AC Power Loss (keep off)
    Wake-Up Event Activity (disable everything)
I don´t changed or updated the BIOS. I have installed version 1.9. The last according MSI Liveupdate.
Actually, I do not know what to do. I do not think that is any configuration of windows, that this behavior as I have with the minimum configuration, without any operating system. Also disable all wakeup events of the network for nforce chipset from device manager in Windows.
The computer works fine on Windows, I don´t have any “death blue screen”, no hanging, freeze or problems with devices or drivers.
I need your suggestions and assist me with some answers:
Can the new drivers for Vista to make changes directly in the firmware of the components of mainboard? (Especially MSI chipset and Nforce drivers)
Will could have damaged somewhere in the process of changing case? (remember, the computer works fine in windows without errors)
Can I make a degradation of the BIOS firmware to an earlier version?
I will receive all suggestions and ideas to solve my problem. It is a good mainboard and I think ridiculous change for the inconvenience.
Thank you all for your help.
    Josh

    "Same issue with all PSU"
What stats they have? (Amperes per each line)
Also read Moan Guide and provide full details about your PC.
Have you tried with different memory stick?
"Every time I shut down the computer, performs the process smoothly, and when it goes off, the computer is restarted automatically. Do not stay off."
That means auto power on? Have you tried with mainboard out of PC case?(It could be shorting issue, or power switch issue)

Issue with 2wire dsl router when connecting power pc g4 via ethernet. The 2wire will keep resetting. When I connect my macbook pro via ethernet to the 2wire all is ok, but as soon as i connect the power pc. . . .reset. I have emailed 2wire support. They recommended using a different patch cable. Tried that.. .. anyone else having this issue???? Any help would be appreciated. . .

Search the discussions for issues with 2wire dsl routers. This has come up before in a discussion I've been involved with, but probably not to do with the MDD. I do remember it being a design issue with the router, something that was done to it before dispatch.
Let us know if you can't find it and we'll have a look.
If you afford it, bin the 2wire and go buy something decent like a Netgear.

Did you check with Verizon to make sure that your destination country would allow the device you have to connect? The possibility is that this country does not have (or you are not in range) a carrier that uses CDMA. If the carriers in this country use GSM you may be out of luck. Dear all,
I'm very hungry with my iMac and my Time Capsule :
I try for two weeks to restore my iMac without any success...
I wait 80 hours to finally have the message again and again : "to restart your computer : turn off computer with power button until switch off then press again power button".
But my iMac do not work !
    Could you help me?

    Hello, that's a kernel panic...
    http://thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X 10.6 Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • T430s Issues with Power Manager

Just to note, I don't have the big issue with the DCC and FCC not matching up that seems to be plaguing many of the T430s users.  I do have a Panasonic battery, FYI.
So I got my T430s late August and for the past few weeks, I've been noticing that I lose about 1% of battery a day even though it is plugged into AC.
I also have a problem with the laptop not going into non-AC mode when I pull the adaptor out of the socket.  It remains on AC mode, which drains the battery more than it should be.  I have to physically go into the power manager and change it to a power saving mode for it to change down.  This doesnt happen all the time but it does happen quite frequently.  My default power setting is default "Power source optimized"
My Power Manager firmware is 6.36 (I think this is the latest one)
Anyone else having these issues? Any firmware upgrades that should fix this problem?

    'afternoon...
    Welcome to the community.
Not sure if it will help out, but please check to be sure you also have the latest Power Management driver installed. You can find it in your driver matrix. I don't have the link immediately at hand or I would post it.
