Power out during bios update

I have an HP Pavillion Media Center m7560n. Was applying a BIOS update using a USB Flash key, had started the process and about 20 seconds into it while the screen was stating not to turn power off, my suspect power supply decided to go out (the fans were running at high speed..) and now can't boot. How else can I load the BIOS?
Thanks

Hi,
That is bad news.

  • T22 won't power up after bios update

i followed directions to a T, power cord in and battery at 100%.
update seemed to be proceeding properly and after about a minute computer beeped and shut down as i have witnessed during previoud tp bios updates.
now when i depress power button, hd activity light comes on very briefly and that's all i see or hear.
i have disconnected battery and ac adapter for a time and then re-inserted and still nothing.
if anyone knows what went wrong, please let me know, including the odds of this machine being worth fixing.
    thanks

    Welcome to the forum!
Let's try this: take out your battery, media and hard drives. Unplug the AC.
Press "power" button 10 times in a row, holding it down 10 seconds each time, and 30 seconds the last time.
Plug the AC adapter back in, try to power on and keep your fingers crossed...
Good luck and let us know.
    Cheers,

  • Dell XPS12 messed up during BIOS update

Hi all, yesterday I tried to update my Dell XPS12 (9Q33 mid 2013) BIOS to the last version (A08). During the installation, the laptop remained stuck in "EC programming" at 50%..I waited two hours but nothing changed and my PC was unusable: completely blocked, no keyboard,no touch and even the windows clock was blocked.
So, as I read in a lot of BIOS-related threads, I removed the AC adaptor and let it discharge completely..some users resolved with this workaround, and their PC's worked well after.
Unfortunately, my XPS12 doesn't want to power up anymore..I also tried to put the .hdr file of the BIOS in a USB stick and tried to power up with "end" button pressed. It powers up and the fans are working, but nothing happens then..Am I using the wrong procedure to repair the BIOS?
    Thanks in advance,
    Fabio

    thanks for your response.
*) I can connect the charger to the laptop, and the laptop charger stays ON. I can't say nothing about the system leds, because I can't turn on the laptop due to the corrupted BIOS.
*) Again, I can't power it on so I don't hear any beep.
*) Same as above, I can't toggle anything because I can't power it on. The only thing I can do is the procedure to Re-install the bios. I insert a USB stick with some BIOS files, then I keep pressed "end" button and then I insert the charging cable. In this mode the laptop powers on with the power led blinking fast, but nothing happens then. I think I'm using the wrong files to re-flash the BIOS, can you provide me the right How-to? probably it can be the problem, because the laptop was messed up during a freeze in the BIOS update in Windows, as i wrote in the first post.
    thanks,
    Fabio

  • Power outage during software update.

Exactly that, power went out during a software update. Now when I start my computer I get the gray screen of death, with the apple that changes to the circle with the slash through it. I repaired the disk of my HD with the install disk disk utility, and the permissions. I still get the gray screen on start up though.

Losing power while updating a program or the OS is not good but one would expect a notebook to survive since it has an independent power source. Back in the old days before I owned an uninterruptible power supply my only recourse was to reinstall the OS and start the updates all over again.

  • System Crash During Bios Update

I have a HP TouchSmart 600-1055 All-in-One. While I was performing a bios update, the system crashed. Now, I can't boot the PC up. It doesn't even show that blue HP boot up screen and keep beeping. It's out of warranty already. What can I do?

    Hi
I think you were trying to update bios via windows mode.. !
try removing battery from your motherboard and also reset bios via jumper settings..
    or
    Disconnect all external devices first.
    1-remove power cord and battery
2-press power button for 20 seconds
3-reinstall only power cord for first startup.
    4-power on
    or

  • Satellite Pro L100 - Crash during Bios update

    Hi
    I own a Satellite Pro L100 (PSLA4E)
From the Toshiba site I downloaded the BIOS update. Whilst installing it I read that it needed power cable plugged in. Before I could cancel it to get the cable it had started and then froze! The computer stopped working and so I turned it off! Since then I have read that, that was a very big mistake!
When turning it on the fan turns on and I can hear the cd drive spinning etc. After 15 seconds, which the screen is blank, the computer starts beeping!
Is there any way of fixing this?
    Thanks very much
    Rich

    Hi Richard
Looks not good buddy according to your description something went wrong during the update procedure and now the ROM module was not flashed correctly.
Maybe you area lucky man and the motherboard is not damage but only the Rom module must be flashed again.
Unfortunately, this must be done by ASP technician. You will have to contact the ASP in your country for a help.
Good luck and have a nice day

  • DV6500 rebooted during bios update. No Bios or Post screen. Blinking CapsLock

    DV6500 (RM098AV)
I downloaded the latest bios and started the install.  During the install the screen all of a sudden went black, fan went into high speed mode, all LEDS solid except for a blinking caps lock light.  The Caps lock is blinking at a steady rate, no pauses ect.  I've tried doing a hard reset with no power or battery holding down the power button.  I've removed the CMOS battery, let sit, still nothing.  I've tried holding down FN+B and Win+B while adding power with no result.
When I plug the power in with no battery the laptop won't even power on.  I hear a slight clicking sound while he power button kinda flashes.  This happens over and over until I add the batter.  Once the battery is added then it powers to a black screen (no flicker or anything) solid LEDs except for the flashing caps lock.
ANY ideas at all?? or anyone else with the same situation??
    HELP!

    HELP!
Did this ever get resolved, b/c this just happened to my dv6565ca in attempting to update to the current BIOS via Windows 7.  Everything blanked during the BIOS erase/write procedure and now the computer only boots with the battery in, and there is nothing but a blank screen, the fan running on high, and the steady blinking of the Caps Lock button. I computer will not start w/o the battery as per the hard reset guide from HP.
I have been doing BIOS updates successfully for many moons, and am intimately familiar with the procedures and cautions, and have never had anything brick on me like this. What is going on HP ?

  • Froze during BIOS Update

    Lenovo 3000 n200 0769 BRG
As per the title my laptop froze during a bios update, I now have a €300 paper weight.
When turning on the fan spins, the cd tray works, but the screen stays blank and only a single power light stays on. I tried starting the machine with no RAM inserted to see if the bios would beep. It didnt.
I think i need to reset the CMOS  and in another thread there were instructions as follows " two exposed metal traces labelled CLRP1. You need to short those traces together for a few seconds."
I can get to the traces CLRP1, but it doesnt work.
Could someone please verify how to short those? What do you actually do?
I lightly pushed a flat head Metal screwdriver on the traces, also tried a paperclip, other screwdrives, and basically everything metal.
Could someone clarify what needs to be done? Thanks so much

If the bios is corrupted, yes, it may be bricked.
Search the web and these forums for "phoenix bios recovery"
there may be some hope. I have never tried any of the solutions
I have found about a Bios recovery disk.
The solution for a bios "hard reset" on my N100 was to dis-assemble
it to the point where I could short the leads of the bios backup battery
for about 5 seconds. The bios on mine was not corrupted, though.
Find the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your laptop model HERE
and look for how to remove the top cover. The battery is probably
on the bottom of the motherboard. A bit tedious and complicated
if you are doing something like this for the first time.

  • Laptop won't start after cutting out during an update

    Dear All,
My laptop cut out during a software update (I think the battery died, although the screen readout said I had plenty of life left) and since then it won't start up. When I turn it on it just goes to the grey screen with the apple logo and the little circular symbol showing that it's thinking about something, the one that normally comes up before the sign-in box appears.
I have attempted to start from my OS X installer disc 1, but after a lot of noisey chugging, nothing further happened (except that my disc is now stuck in the drive).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hannah.singh: Both the Repair Disk routine in Disk Utility and the fsck routine that you've now run check the structure of the file system on your hard drive. In essence, they're checking to see that every item listed in the disk's invisible directory is actually where the directory says it is. Neither utility can or will alert you if a necessary file has gone missing (because, for example, an updater has deleted it and not replaced it with a new version), or if an incomplete update has left incompatible system files in place that will prevent the computer from starting up, or keep some other essential operation from being performed. These utilities aren't designed to discover whether there is actually a bootable operating system in place; they only tell you whether the disk directory matches the actual contents of the disk, and if not, whether they've been able to patch it so the two do match.
So if you were applying an update that altered any system files before it was interrupted, it's possible that the operating system on your computer is now unusable even though the directory is in fine shape and all the hardware checks out too.
Under the circumstances, I recommend starting up from your latest OS X installer CD/DVD and performing an Archive & Install.

  • What are possible issues during BIOS update?

    Hello everybody,
I am having a problem with the battery of my old Toshiba - 'plugged in, not charging'
Searching the internet I found out that the BIOS update could possibly solve the problem.
On the other hand the BIOS update procedure can itself cause some sever problems....
Does anybody know what precautions can/should I take to avoid such problems or be prepared to resolve them easily... something like BIOS recovery disk, etc?
    Many thanks in advance
    IG

    Hello
In worst case the update could fail and destroy the ROM module. That means the computer will not boot anymore the ROM module must be reflashed from a notebook technician. Thats fact!
But if you have any problems with battery charging control I must agree MisterX because I doubt it has something to do with BIOS. I mean even with oldest BIOS version, the battery will be charged if AC adapter is connected because its hardware controlled and has nothing to do with BIOS.
In my opinion you should try another battery and/or AC adapter. Important point is that a battery can be recharged only 500 times after then you must replace it.
    Check this!!!

Help. I was in the middle of loading a system update when I shut the power off.
You mean you forced the computer off with the power button?
When you say the middle of loading a system update, what do you mean? Downloading it, installing it??
Now my MacBook Pro does not boot and only has an error message when I power up. I have read some forum topics on downloading a stand alone installer to fix and another on using my leopard install disk\utilities to "restore from time machine".
You need to boot into the Leopard DVD by inserting the DVD, rebooting and holding down the "C" key. After the language screen, in the menu, top left, under Utilities, run disk utility and repair HD and permissions.
    That's the first step.
If that does not work, boot into the safe mode by holding down the shift key on boot. If you get to the login screen, you are probably in good shape - just click restart and let the system reboot normally.

  • Crash during BIOS update

    Hi.
I've an HP Pavilion dv5 1190 ep and i've tried to update my bios...
During this process, my computer didn't respond.... Taking more than 5 hours... After that, i had no choise and powered off my computer.
Now i cant start up my computer, and by what i read, exists one mode to recovery my bios.
The problem is that i can't find the file to recovery my bios.

  • During BIOS update Satellite Pro A60 went down and hasn't started

    Hello everyone,
I have a Satellite Pro A60 and I updated the bios. Halfway the update, my laptop went down and hasn´t started since. All it does is give a couple of beeps (trying to tell me the bios is corrupted, I suppose) and shuts itself off again.
Tried to start with the (~) key pressed down (a tip I got from a friend), but no succes.
I currently live in a country where there is no Toshiba dealer available and I rather not ship the laptop to have it repaired.
Does anyone know of a way to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    This sounds not good.
If during the POST the BIOS detects a problem it will normally display a visual error message on the monitor explaining what the problem is. However, if a problem is detected before the BIOS initializes the video card or a video card is not present or not detected then the BIOS will play several BEEPS through the speaker to let you know there is a problem.
Depending on the type of the BIOS you have the BIOS may play beeps in a specific pattern to indicate what the problem is, or play the same beep a number of times indicating the problem.
In your case its possible that you have used a wrong BIOS or a wrong BIOS procedure. Both can damage the motherboard.
To prevent such damages and any mistakes Toshiba has published the FAQ document.
How to update the BIOS on most units!
This you should read before doing any BIOS updates!
Unfortunately I dont think that you can solve it yourself. I think you should ask the ASP for help.
