Power outage Mailbox Database won't mount

Hello,
We have experienced a power outage, when we brought the server back the Mailbox Database wouldn't mount.
After that i ran Eseutil /mh and was on dirty shutdown, the i did /r and finally /p
Database is now on Clean shutdown state but still doesn't mount, error in event viewer:
failed. Error: The database action failed. Error: Operation failed with message: MapiExceptionCallFailed: Unable to mount database. (hr=0x80004005, ec=-344) ---> Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.AmOperationFailedException: An Active Manager operation failed. Error: Operation failed with message: MapiExceptionCallFailed: Unable to mount database. (hr=0x80004005, ec=-344) ---> Microsoft.Mapi.MapiExceptionCallFailed: MapiExceptionCallFailed: Unable to mount database. (hr=0x80004005, ec=-344)
First time dealing with this problem, have i missed something?

I'm still unable to mount the Database, i've moved the logs out of the path and tried to mount with the same error.

  • Exchange 2010 database won't mount

We had a power outage and I believe that the database has been corrupted. When I try to mount a restored copy of the database the day before the crash it gives me the following error.
    Microsoft Exchange Error
Failed to mount database 'Mailbox Database 0517197706'.
    Mailbox Database 0517197706
    Failed
    Error:
Couldn't mount the database that you specified. Specified database: Mailbox Database 0517197706; Error code: An Active Manager operation failed. Error: The database action failed. Error: Operation failed with message: MapiExceptionCallFailed: Unable to mount
    database. (hr=0x80004005, ec=-501)
    . [Database: Mailbox Database 0517197706, Server:#########].
An Active Manager operation failed. Error: The database action failed. Error: Operation failed with message: MapiExceptionCallFailed: Unable to mount database. (hr=0x80004005, ec=-501)

    . [Server: ###########]
MapiExceptionCallFailed: Unable to mount database. (hr=0x80004005, ec=-501)

So it appears that what happened may be that the copy back process was terminated earlier, hence the smaller file size etc.  So what I would do is
    1. Rename
    Mailbox Database 0517197706.edb to "OLD_Mailbox Database 0517197706.edb"
    2. if the TMP file is in same location as the main file I would then just rename
    TEMPDFRG7840.EDB to
Mailbox Database 0517197706.edb.  If the TMP file is in alternate location I would rename and then copy back into place where Exchange expects the file to live.
    3. Then attempt a mount and report back
Search, Recover, & Extract Mailboxes, Folders, & Email Items from Offline Exchange Mailbox and Public Folder EDB's and Live Exchange Servers or Import/Migrate direct from Offline EDB to Any Production Exchange Server, even cross version i.e. 2003 -->

  • Exchange 2007 database won't mount due to MapiExceptionCallFailed errors

A server is running Exchange Server 2007 SP2 on Windows Server 2008 64-bit. After a couple years of running smoothly, the Windows Application event log started filling up with several instances every minute of the following error:
    MSExchangeIS (2644) First Storage Group: A bad page link (error -327) has been detected in a B-Tree (ObjectId: 5, PgnoRoot: 10) of database H:\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox\First Storage Group\Mailbox Database.edb (165296 => 3185, 817790).
Messages sent to a specific mailbox on the server started getting returned as undeliverable with the message:
#550 5.2.0 STOREDRV.Deliver: The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service reported an error. The following information should help identify the cause of this error: "MapiExceptionCallFailed..."
I assumed that the event log messages and the delivery errors were related so I ran "eseutil /d" on the database but it exited with the message, "Operation terminated with error -1605 (JET_errKeyDuplicate, Illegal duplicate key) after 76.578 seconds. Running
eseutil /mh reports the database state as clean shutdown.
The Exchange database had been backed up nightly using Windows Server 2008 Backup. I restored the latest backup of the .edb file. Unfortunately, the corruption behind the bad page link error seemingly had propagated through the backups because the restored
.edb file had the same issues.
I then attempted to create a new clean database with the goal of then transferring mailbox data from the old to the new as described in the article "Simplifying the Dial Tone Database Recovery Process in Exchange 2007" (http://blogs.technet.com/b/dhardin/archive/2009/08/25/simplifying-the-dial-tone-database-recovery-process-in-exchange-2007.aspx).
I successfully created the new storage group and database with empty instances of all mailboxes but attempts to mount the old database yield this message:
Error: Exchange is unable to mount the database that you specified. Specified database: FASTMAIL\NewStorageGroup\Mailbox Database; Error code: MapiExceptionCallFailed: Unable to mount database. (hr=0x80004005, ec=-344)
I then tried to return to the initial state of having a corrupted database but one that would at least function temporarily for all but the one broken mailbox. The idea would be to instruct individual users to run the Outlook archive command to back their
messages up locally into .pst files. Unfortunately, all attempts to mount the original .edb file yield the same MapiExceptionCallFailed error. I also tried to mount the database after deleting the transaction log files.
I searched the web for information on this error. There are some pages describing similar errors such as "hr=0x80004005, ec=2417" but I could not find any for "ec=-344". Some articles recommend running IsInteg.exe but this utility only works for databases
that are already mounted and I am unable to mount the database.
The Exchange server is running again using the empty database so that the users can at least send and receive mail. I get the sinking feeling that all hope is lost and the historical mail data that was stored on the server is gone for good. Before I face
the pitchforks of the angry mob, I figured that I would at least post an inquiry on an Exchange-related forum.
Are there any other steps I should take to try to recover the old data?

have you checked the health of the database using eseutil /mh "edbfilename.edb" ?
is the state: Clean Shutdown ?
If it is in clean shutdown state, then move the old logs, chk, .jrs files and select the option "This database can be overwritten by a restore" and mount the database.
In case if your database is not in clean shutdown state then you would need to work towards getting the database to clean shutdown using any of the following strategies based on the criteria that the database is affected with !
    1. soft recovery
    2. Hard Recovery
    3. Hard repair

  • DVR 8888 message after power outage. TV won't turn on.

Moved to the Xfinity TV and Equipment forum.

If the TV won't turn on that's a TV issue, all we can say is check the power cord, otherwise you may need a new TV. However if the box isn't progressing past the 8888 either, then the box may need replaced.

  • External Drive Won't Mount After Power Failure

I was in the process of erasing a hard disk that was repeatedly not behaving correctly when the power went out last night. Now it won't mount at all, though another external disk I have daisy chained to it will mount. I have tried unplugging it (both the firewire cable and power) and it still won't mount. Any ideas? Thanks.

Actually, the opposite is true; you can't reformat a mounted volume. If the device isn't showing up in the left hand side of Disk Utility at all then you've probably got a hardware problem.

  • CAS restart and Mailbox database dismount unexpectedly somtimes

    Hi all,
In my environment I have 2 Exchange server 2013 (CAS + Mailbox Role both) CU2 : EX01 & EX02 in DAG01. Sometimes CAS service is restarted or Mailbox Database copy on Exchange servers is dismounted unexpectedly. For example today:
    I have "Mailbox Database 01" copies on EX01 & EX02
    Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus "Mailbox Database 01"
    Name Status
    Mailbox Database 01\EX01 Healthy
    Mailbox Database 01\EX02 Mounted
"Mailbox Database 01" copy on EX02 is dismounted, of course the other copy on EX01 is mounted automatically

We just ran into this exact problem this morning. At 7:26am the database just dismounted. No errors just dismount. Now they won't mount and we can't run eseutil /p or /d as it immediately errors out. /k works and no errors found.
Bandaid fix was to go into the EMS and simply move the public and private db to a nas. Now they mount fine. This is strictly a temp solution to get the server back online but something was changed in host machine drive setup (hyperv with compellent san)
According to the host service (county systems) nothing was done or changed and no updates.
At any rate it is now working and we just need to know what can be done to migrate back to the san and off the nas.
Here is the error when trying to mount - the key is the -583 as none of the other errors comply with is special instance
Failed to mount database 'Mailbox Database 2017935857'.

  • Time Machine won't recognize my last backup after a power outage

    Good Afternoon Everyone,
I just set up a Western Digital My Book Live on my network.  Last week, I set up Time Machine to start a backup on my MacBook Pro (running 10.7.5).  It took 2 days to finish, but all went well.  For three days, all the backups worked perfectly.  However, we had a power outage for an hour during the night and now that I turn on my MacBook Pro, Time Machine recognizes the disk, but doesn't have a record of any backup.
I have gone to the drive manually and seen that the files are still there, but how to I tell Time Maching on my MacBook that the full backup is already on that NAS drive, so that it won't do a full backup?
I would really appreciate the help.
    Brett

TM apparently identifies the machine's backup by the Computer Name stored in the Sharing preferences. Try opening Sharing preferences and changing the Computer Name to the one you used previously when your TM backup was created.

    Hi,
Maybe it is related to the TEMP & TMP environment variables, please try the below article to modify the temp folder. After that, please recreate the ActiveSync virtual directory to check the result. About how to rebuild virtual directory, you can refer

  • External Firewire drives power up, but won't mount.

I wanted to see if anyone else is having this problem. I recently upgraded my mom's laptop to OSX Lion after she experienced a lot of problems with Snow Leopard. All updates available from Software Update have been installed. Now 2 issues have arisen after the new install: 1) the FW 800 and 400 ports appear to be non-functional, and 2) the OS takes about 10 minutes to boot up to the desktop.
    1) Regarding the FW ports: I have a couple external Firewire 800 hard drives that I use on other Macs so I know they're fully operational and mount without any issues. They're both 5400RPM drives that have been inserted into Macally external enclosures, and are of different capacities - one is 320GB and the other is 500GB. The enclosures offer FW 800, 400, USB 2.0 and mini-USB connectivity. But after upgrading the laptop I mentioned, neither of the drives will mount when using the FW 800 or 400 cables. They power up but won't mount, and they don't show up in the list in Disk Utility. However, the drives will power up and mount via USB.
I realize the laptop may have a hardware/port problem - but both 800 and 400 ports? Seems unlikely.
    2) Any idea why it's taking the OS 10 minutes to boot up? I've shut down the laptop and rebooted it twice since the OS install, and both times took 10 minutes.
I may just install Lion on one of the hard drives, pull it and then pop it into the laptop to see if that makes any difference. Before I do that, can anyone recommend a hardware utility that can check the ports?
    I welcome your suggestions.
    Thank you.

Thanks for responding. Here's the info you requested. I'm not a systems guy so hopefully I've pasted in something that helps.

  • IMac won't start due to power outage

A transformer blew here in town the other night, and we lost power.  Prior to that, there were two other power outages due to weather, but my iMac recycled and turned on fine after that.  Now it won't turn on at all.  Yes, I have read through all of the discussions prior to adding this discussion:
    1.  Unplugged the cord from the surge protector, and into a wall socket, and all other cord related suggestions
    2.  Tried resetting the PRAM
    3.  No sound, no fan, nothing when I press the button
    4.  Unfortunately my warranty has run out
    4.  Should I try to reinstall the memory card or should I go ahead and take it in?
    5.  Any other suggestions?  Help!
    Thanks in advance....

After the drive is erased you will have to reinstall everything. You certainly can reinstall Tiger from the OS X installer DVD. When the OS is reinstalled, all the bundled software is also reinstalled, including Safari and iTunes.
As to whether anything can be done short of reformatting, that depends on the tools you have. A heavy duty utility may be able to repair the files and the drive. But it depends on what is wrong with the drive. If the cause is simply 'over-crowding' or bad sectors on the drive, i.e. too much stored on the drive or physical damage of the drive, it is possible to retrieve some or even all of the data. But, as you have discovered, Disk Utility cannot do this.

  • HP Officejet 6500 won't print black after power outages

We experienced a series of power outages last night. Now the black won't print at all. The print cartridge is fairly new, about a month old, scarcely used. All the color cartridges will print.
I've tried cleaning the print heads and running the alignment tests, but nothing can produce any black ink. For a pure text page with just black lettering and nothing else, the printer goes through the motions but nothing is printed.
I have a feeling that the power outages tripped it up somehow. Is there a way to undo this?
    thanks in advance

@Kenteeple and @oli22  If you make a copy, will that print black?

  • Exchande mailbox database is not getting mounted automatically after server is up

    Hi,
Our exchange server is configured as follows:
    - DAG with two Exchange Mail box servers member.
    - Each server is mounted to mailbox database(m1-db & m2-db respectively) and the replication is activated on both server
My question is when one of the server goes down , the other server will take over but after the second is back online, the database which reside on it is not mounted automatically and both dbs are showing  healthy status.
To resolve this issue we have to activate it manually.
Is there any solution or configuration to be performed to make the mounting occurs automatically.
    Regards

Does it happens to all the Database on that server?
What is the activation preference you have set?

  • IMac won't boot after power outage

I got a power outage a couple of hours ago. And now my iMac won't boot. When I power it up, it gets pass the white screen with the apple logo. The screen than turns blue with a spinning cursor. The cursor spins for about 10-15 minutes and stops but the normal login screen never appear and it won't boot into the desktop either. I just got a blue screen.
I have boot into the install Disc1 and did the disk repair and premission repair but it didn't help.
    Any idea?
    Sidney

    Oh man, what a disaster!
I tried to do an Archive and Install but the installation hanged at the end of disc 2 after running an iWeb script (according to the install log) with about one minute left. I have waited for two hours but it just hanged there with all the drives spin down.
To make the problem worse. There was no way to quit the install at that point because all the menu items were disabled. The only way out was to power off. But when I powered it back on, it booted right into install directly asking for the disc 2. If I put the disc in it will install again and hang at the same spot.
Disc 2 contains iLife. I know Apple wanted to make things simple but why can't they give me an option to skip it? After all, iLife was already installed.
I finally got it working by booting from disc 1 and did a clean install. It took me all night to re-download all the updates and reinstall many applications. Fortunately, I have my address book, calendar, and most of my works backed up to .Mac so it wasn't a total lost.
On the bright side. Now my iMac is working better than before. I used to have problem getting auto sleep to work but now it works perfectly. Safari also had problem accessing charts (but Camino was fine) in a few web sites like schwab.com. Now everything works.
Lenn and David. Thanks for all your helps.
Now I am looking for a better backup solution so that the recovery won't be this painful if disaster strikes again. Any suggestions?
    Sidney
