Power Outage... UC520 is down.

Hello,
I have been searching for the past 6 hours and I have no clue what to do at this point. Any help is greatly appreciated.
We have been using a UC520 unit and CE520 switch without any major problems for about 7 months now. About a month ago, we got a new static IP and I set the UC to handle the data network as well as the telephony. Everything was working great!
Last night, we had a power outage, and something happened to the system. I got the phones working by powering off and back on. The static IP is coming in fine from the cable modem, but some configuration must have been lost, because the computers are not connecting to the network.
The bigger problem is that I can no longer connect to the UC520 using CCA, because the box is now unreachable at the normal address of 192.168.10.1. Why would this occur?
I tried getting a serial-to-USB adapter to attempt doing a reset via CLI, but I cannot get it to connect via Putty... don't know if there is a problem with the console port or my adapter, but it's just not working when PuTTy tries to connect.
I hooked up a cheap Linksys router for the time being, but this is really a disaster! I'm hoping the UC520 was not shorted out. But I don't think that's the case, considering the voice network is working OK. Anyone heard of anything like this?
Thanks,
Paul

Hello Paul,
I hope that everything is ok with the UC too.
Please check if you connect PC directly on one of the ports on the UC will it get ip address automatically through the DHCP.
If you do not get address you may get wireshark and capture traffic when you are connected to the UC and find out some address of the UC and try to connect to it.
You may try to connect to the UC voice vlan also.
You may try to connect through the wan port also.
HTH,
Alex

  • Cannot open database after power outage

We had a power outage that took down our Sun server. On that server I have two Oracle 10.1.0 instances. One instance comes up without issue. The second I can mount but I get an error when I attempt to open it.
ORA-01092: ORACLE instance terminated. Disconnection forced
if I look at the alert log the only thing I see is
    Thu Apr 25 16:44:31 2013
Running without dynamic strand for Non-Enterprise Edition
And here is the trc file

Any suggestions on how to get it connected? This is an old system but there is some data in that database I would like to recover.
    Thanks in advance.

This is what I got on the startup attempt:

  • Mail crashes repeatedly after power outage

Hi folks. This evening we had a power outage that shut down my computer without warning (no, no UPS; we're in a temporary rental house, and I didn't bring the UPS, which was probably dumb). Ever since, when I try to start up Mail, it will open, remain open for maybe 10-20 seconds, and then quit unexpectedly. The "safe start" option doesn't fix the problem, nor does moving the preferences files or "unfoldered" items from the ~/Library/Mail folder to the desktop and letting Mail rebuild the mail folders. Can someone suggest a fix?
I'm running OS X 10.5.6 on an Intel alumiMac 24", and Mail is fully up to date. (Running Safari 3.2.1, if that's relevant.)
Here's the latest error report, if someone is able to decipher the gobbledegook (apologies for the long dump, but hey, I didn't write the thing).
Can anyone tell me what I should try next?

Most likely you've had some catastrophic damage done to the hard drive in the form of file and/or directory corruption. Start by:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If your drive is shown as OK but the problem persists, then reinstall OS X as follows:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • ONS 15454 shows up as "unknown" after power outage

We had a power outage that took down a ONS 15454 in a remote facility. Upon restoring power and powering-up the unit, it shows up in CTC as grey with "Uknown2" as the name.
I had someone reseat the TCC card, but it still comes up as unknown.
Has anyone seen this? Any suggestions (the device is hours from me)

Try and restart CTC session and clear CTC cache
    Can you ping the node
Check to see if the node is in the OSPF routing table
Can you access via CTC locally
Is your CTC terminal directly connected or does it go via a firewall
Probably resolved now how did you resolve it?

  • Power Outages shut down Fios for 24 hours??

I have had Fios for a few years now, and every time that there is a power outage, even if briefly, the Fios internet goes down and will not connect after power is restored. There is then a beep from the box in the garage, and the light has then been moved to an orange color. It takes about 24 hours for the box to reset, generally the next morning it will work.
My boyfriend has the same Fios box, however when his power goes out at his home, this situation never occurs and the internet will come back as soon as power is available.
Is this normal? Is there a way to fix it. It is an incredible inconvenience and am tempted to switch just for that fact
    Please help!!.

The beepin on the ONT means that it is still running on battery power, definately call the FSC (Fiber Solutions Center) if it is still beeping. They will most likely have you make sure that the outlet that the box is plugged into is getting power and no breakers were tripped. If all is ok on your end they will most likely send a technician to get this repaired.

  • I was able to open pfd files before my computer was shut down by a power outage, once power was returned I am unable to open pdf files

I was able to open pdf files before I had a power outage in our area, once power was restored I can not open pdf files.

Chrome uses its own PDF viewer, not the Adobe Reader plugin.
    To change that see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-browser-plugin-configuration.html
However, Google seems determined that in the near future only their own plugins will be allowed on Chrome...

  • OSX 10.4.11 doesn't recognize APC Back-UPS BE550G, no UPS tab appears in Energy Saver panel, how can I get safe shut down at power outage?

Can't figure out how to solve this puzzle: the battery backup [APC Back-UPS BE550G] doesn't show up in the Energy Saver pane in a UPS tab nor beside the clock and Spotlight; will the (1 min. then shutdown) settings of the Saver be supported by the APC battery if there is a power outage or significant surge?
This new back-ups came in a box stating compatibility with OS 10.3.9 – 10.4.9. Am I out of luck with 10.4.11? Isn't the OS itself able to set prefs for an UPS?
Please help if you can. Thanks.

did you install software and if so, where did you get it? I am running 10.7.4 and when the unit is plugged in via the ethernet usb cable, I can see ups in the control panel, but have no other control. I am media managing a television shoot and we need to set up our workstations pronto.

  • What can happen to an intel-based iMac when a power outage occurs while it is on and I unplug it to avoid a surge when power comes back?

The power went out today, while I was using my intel-based iMac (2008) and I rushed to unplug the power from the wall, before the poser could surge back on. Did I do damage?
I have a surge protector that it was plugged into, but I thought just to be safe I should unplug!
    Thanks, Group!
    artdough

    Good point!
Art a surge protector (a good one) is designed to provide contant power to the devices that are plugged into it. This is good in the event of a surge of power up or down however in the event of a complete power outage they're of no value.
A UPS (Uninteruptable Power Supply) is just that, it has surge protection like a surge suppresor however it also has a battery integrated into it. The battery is designed to provide enough power for a user to do an orderly shutdown. In addition most UPS's can also plug into your iMac via a USB cable. Then you can set energy saver preferences that you cannot see now. For example you can set how long the computer should run in the event of power going off. You can also set if you want the computer to reboot or not when the power comes back on etc. For about $100 you can get a fine UPS that will add an additional layer of protection for your computer and give you extra peace of mind.

  • Power Supply blows a fuse, Ext Soundcard power outages, Time Machine.

Power Supply blows a fuse, Ext Soundcard momentary power outages. Time Machine won't backup.
    Ok here's my setup
Mac Book Pro 13" APRIL 2011 latest firmware. 8GB RAM. Surge Protected mains connection..
M-AUDIO FIREWIRE SOUNDCARD AUDIOPHILE most recent drivers and powered by the MacBooks Firewire Out using a NEET Pro Lead,
The M-Audio has 2 x Firewire Ports and I take one  to a 2TB 7800rpm Iomega iMedia Drive which daisy chains to a 1TB FireWire Seagate HardDrive and yes both are Pre Powered and formatted for Time Machines exclusive use.
The M-Audio Firewire module can be pre powered but isn't for this reason, the FireWire Out from the Mac IS pre powered, and I'm using a good quality NEET lead that powers the Audiophile ok over the last few months. I have been warned by the manual if I add a power supply to a pre powered firewire chain I could damage equipment, I'm now running the the screen as low as possible and the backlit keys off to minimise power drain, I also use an Acer 24" Monitor with a NEET DV mini port to HDMI adaptor and it's been working great but this must be more power drain on the power supply, One of the USB ports goes to an Native Instruments Maschine Sampler Module, the other goes to a Pre Powered 4 Port USB Hub and that has been fine, it has 1 Axiom 25 USB Midi Keyboard, 2 Pre Powered Hard Discs 1 Portable USB Drive. Now the problems started with Time Machine it can't backup and I get Hard Disk Unsafe Disconnects and Failed Time Machine Backups and Now my Soundcard does the same in that it momentarily disconnects and reconnects in a second, in Settings under ENERGY SETTINGS I've set hard drives to Never Shut Down, and the Screen also, it's been more frequent, then a fuse blows in the Power Supply without tripping up my Surge Protector Socket pfft! just great, well it is only a 3AMP Fuse in the Plug Socket but it saved my MacBook!, ok checks Mains, yes it's old, and I've started using the Central Heating alot now and when it turns on it could be causing a power surge, same with the FridgeFreezer. Things i've tried, on the Seagate pre powered FireWire Hardisc I have switched the Firewire lead to its second FW port, I got no errors with Time Machine this time, not 100% it's done yet, Soundcard resets in Logic 9 ****, I do have 2 lower quality Firewire Leads that go from the Soundcard to the 2 harddrives will need upgrading ASAP, thats next, I recon its time to upgrade the Soundcard as well for a Focusrite or similar as all my M-Audio Soundcards would literaly loose there minds on PCs and Macs, flakey drivers would just drop out of the Audiophole Firewire Card, more than I care to mention, so if that happens it could explain why the Time Machine drive drops out also, hmmm, and there was me thinking if I used a Mac it would all be ok. wrong. Would apreciate any qualified input, thanks.

Ok some updates I see, 6 in total including a firmware and security upgrades, also two Native Instruments Updates, Reaktor and Kontakt. I will be testing, this. Before the Updates I managed to peak the CPU load in Logic 9 and was only using 14 tracks, will need to bounce the Synth Plugs and drum tracks and run all the source samples from the Local internal drive a Hitachi 5400rpm drive hmmm :/ will experiment, anyway my Iomega FW drive froze up the Iomega Mac Companion is the correct name for it 2TB 7800rpm but it met it's match or was is the processor? Still sussing it all out. Firewire leads upgrade in effect. testing.. bleep. .

  • Unable to load OS bound to a domain after power-outage

I currently manage 200 2013 iMac but since installing Yosemite I've noticed that after the macs are joined to the domain and a network user is using the machine and a power outage occurs ALL iMac running Yosemite will not boot up. The boot process reaches about 30 percent and stays on the grey apple logo screen. After extensive troubleshooting we found that this only occurs when a user is logged in when the power outage occurs. However if the power outage occurs and the units are not being used by a network user the computer boots up fine. We completed a fresh install created a local user without adding it to the domain. We then logged in with the local user mimic'd a power-outage and the computer booted up fine. I have done extensive troubleshooting noticed that the issue does not occur with local users only users authenticated on a domain.
Note: We also noticed that if we deleted network users from the user folder and then performed the power outage and the unit loads the OS fine.
Any help with this is greatly appreciated...

Insert the Mac OS X 10.4 installation disk into the drive, and then restart the computer with the Option key held down. If you are able to successfully start up from the drive, install Mac OS X 10.4.

  • During a power outage, my mac was on and when it came back on, it was reset. No pictures, documents, etc. How can I fix this?

My mac was on during a power outage, and when I turned it back on, it was reset. I cannot find any of my pictures or documents. I would really like to fix this on my own. Does anyone have any ideas? The memory seems to be cleared.

There may be no fix. The outage may have caused a damaging electrical spike.
    Try this first:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
If this does not work, then try this:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.

    Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it isthree times faster than wireless.
    If this doesn't work then:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • After several power outages, there is only a white screen, an apple in the center and a time strip after the strip is complete it turns it self off what is this problem

I have a 27in Mac desk top, its about a 2009, after several power outages and the computer pluged up and on now when turn it on it shows a white screen, apple in the center and a time strip toward the bottom when the time strip goes to the end of the cycle it shuts its self off.
The only thing we have tryed which was from a forum which was simular problem was, command-option-p-r, hold them down til the screen was back up, we try several times it did not work, please, please some-one help we use this computer for our job.

Also the trick you used, is known as resetting the PRAM. Not always the best of ideas for Macs older than 4 years.  But I'm glad it worked for you.  There is a battery which will eventually need replacing inside that would actually make that technique stop your Mac from working until replaced.

  • Is there a way to recover a word document that was auto saved before a power outage?

I was working on a document that was previously saved, went to the save the darn thing, and of course the power zapped out.  It was in word 2010? and even when searching for "AutoRecovery" files it is not there.  just the original document opens, not the modified one.  Please if anyone knows how to find a recovered one, or if it is even possible can you let me know.
    Thanks!

I was assuming you meant 2011 and not 2010 since 2010 is a Windows version and not Mac
First a disclaimer, right now I am on a PC and not my Mac so there may not be a one-to-one matchup.
Clicking on the main Word drop down, this may be under Preferences, I have a Word Options button.  From there do you have Allow Background Saves checked?  Also, the button File Locations; find AutoRecover Files and see where those are located.  Then using Finder, go to that location and see if you can find a file with a date/time stamp for the time of the power outage.  If there is a file, open and see if that is what you need.
If there are no files, or cannot find the recovery file location, there may not be much option than to try and redo all the work up to the power outage.  Word is supposed to auto save, and take you to the last saved form of files before an exit that is not according to the rules...it is supposed to do that, or so it claims.

  • SLM224P POE issue after power outage

Have recently experienced an issue where after a power outage, the device recovers with the exception of the POE ports. This device supports POE on 12 of 24 ports. I have two wireless radios (currently, with plans to expand POE need) on port e1 and e18 (poe is on 1-6 and 12-18). The devices on the non-POE ports all came back up fine following the outage, but the two radios remained inactive despite what the port management details indicated. The java indicatons indicated the ports were down, contrasting the port detail page. There was no power on either port. I recovered by logging into the unit and instigating a reboot at which point all the devices came back.
This is the second time that this has happened, the first time being written off as a fluke. I consider this a pretty serious flaw as the POE aspect is just as vital, if not more so, than a standard non-POE port recovery. The unit is on a UPS, but the outage exceeded the battery duration. The device should recover all operations automatically, without any human intervention. I see that the SRW224P also has similar issues.
There also appears to be a bug in the time setting routine. In some instances I keep getting a message indicating that the time must be later than the time being set...due to the daylight savings time. Turn this off, then set the time and then turn back DST back on. A NTP (auto) server setting would be nice.

I would like to think power could be a factor as a reboot did recover the device, but as stated, it was on a UPS. Granted the battery had depleted and I guess a disturbance might have gotten by (maybe on the power-up cycle), but the device did function fine on the non-POE ports. Seems to be more of a device issue in its ability to recover and know that it has done so correctly. I like the device, just scared as I can't control when an outage or disturbance might occur and the management interface indicates the ports are up when in fact, thay are not. Thanks for the thought though, I will at least try a different make UPS.

  • No Internet during power outage - Isn't the battery in the NTU supposed to keep the circuit up?

During yesterday's power outage in Northern Virginia I lost all Internet connectivity; yet my NTU battery was up but my Verizon router was saying the cable wan was down.  Why?
Isn't the NTU battery supposed to keep the circuit up in case of power failure?  if is not, why did I spend $30 replacing it when it failed since Verizon is too cheap to replace it, even though we all pay them those outragous bills every month.

No, only the phone circuit, for up to 8 hours, if you have phone service. Although my experience is that the battery does power the internet and TV service for a short time to cover a brief power outage.
As to why you paid $30 to replace the battery, I have no idea, you can generally get batteries locally or from Amazon, etc. for $15 to $20. And it is very clearly stated that the battery is your responsibility, you should have already known that.
If you feel FiOS too expensive, why do you have it?
