Power Outlet for Flat Screen

I am having the Geek Squad mount my new 55" flat Screen. I want to have them hide all wires but understand that AC cords can not be placed in wall. Where is the best place to have an electrician mount an AC outlet in relation to the Rocketfish mounting bracket they will use and what would be the best surge protector configuration.

Hi-
With regard to using an LCD monitor with the Rage 128, you will want a DVI-I or DVI-D equipped 20" or less monitor that uses a digital native resolution within those listed in the top half of this page:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58756
The smaller the monitor, the better the chances of good results.
15"-17" is a good target.
The Rage just doesn't have the horsepower for larger monitors.
Many 3rd party LCD monitors are VGA also, but the Rage is programmed to provide for CRT screens in analog (VGA) rather than LCD panels in analog.
A small analog LCD may work, but this is definitely a "your mileage may vary" scenario.
An LCD monitor with digital DVI is more of a sure thing.

  • Stage size for flat screen TV's

Just wondering what pixel dimensions people generally use for
    flat screen tv presentations?
    Thanks
    D.

If your technical guy tells you that the sets can go up to 1080i, but that they're NOT HD, I'd say you need a new technical guy. The sets are indeed HD as 1080i is HD.
I would suggest creating your project in HD regardless. Even if you master down to SD, HD as a starting point will look better at the end of the road than SD alone. However, I agree with your idea to use a laptop. Much better for looping video IMHO. Just be sure that you can get an HD signal (1080i) on the set through the DVI (some TVs can only handle computer resolutions through the DVI).
The good side to running off of QT Player instead of a DVD is you can get really good quality from low bandwidth by using the H.264 codec even with HD sizes. It'll look great at HD resolution on those sets.
BTW, Motion can do all your pan and zoom moves nearly as easily as iMovie using behaviors. No keyframing is necessary. I did a project like that just recently and it was simple, but afforded me the control I wanted. I makes it easier if you're not going from program to program.

  • Building Presentation for flat screen - 16:9 = 720x480?

    I need some help.
I don't do video enough to get this straight...
I need to build a looping video to be played on a bunch of flat-screen TV's mounted to a trade-show booth. I'm guessing I need to build it for wide-screen - 16.9 ratio?
I used iMovie to build a simple video of images panning in and out. When I go to export, I can use the simple option of Share and if I choose their large option it exports as 950x540. That didn't seem right so I used the export to QuickTime and have selected the NTSC 720x480 16:9 Option.
Now if I bring it into iDVD, and I choose a new theme, I tell it 16:9 - widescreen I'm thinking... But when I bring I play the video - at least on my computer. the DVD menu is nice and wide, but then the video I just sent from iMovie suddenly crops down... am I doing this right?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
It's a while ago since you posted this, but I have the same problem here. This far I guess it has to do with the Standard Crop Area. If I switch this on I see that the area is indeed excact what is seen on tv. Is there a way to make sure the movie is shown within the Crop area?
    Thanks

  • Does "Safe Area" apply to flat screens?

Hi, can anyone tell me the importance of "Safe Area" these days (e.g. denoted by rectangles on screen when adding titles)? When viewing videos on 16:9 flat screens, are details outside the internal rectangle likely to be lost, or is this only likely when viewers forget to set the correct aspect ratio? Was "Safe Area" more relevant when viewing old TV screens pre-dating the LCD/LED flat screens of today? If detail is critical on flat screens, should I be considering the external rectangle rather than the internal one when adding titles for viewing on flat screens? I am putting together a slide show of old family photos and shrinking them enough within frame to add titles over black space beneath the photos so that clean names can be read more quickly than if superimposed. I like the classy look of gold lettering on black background beneath old black and white photos. When heads are close to top of frame in the photos, the images must be shrunk a little more than perhaps desirable to fit lettering beneath the photos within the internal rectangle when adding titles. The photos won't have to be shrunk so much if it is OK to fit all within the external rectangle for flat screen viewing.
    Using PE10, Windows 7 64 bit, i7 377ok, 16Gb RAM, Geforce GTX 650, ASUS 21 inch 16:9 LED screen.

The Title Safe, and Action Safe Areas were designed for the overscan, that existed in older CRT TV screens - unless the TV was a calibrated "studio monitor," which showed 100% of the raster. The amount of overscan differed make to make, and even model to model, so a "worst-case scenario" was chosen.
With current flat screen TV's, there is still often some overscan, but it is much less, in most cases, than with the CRT tubes. Many producers have changed from the old Title Safe of 20% to about 10%, and for Action Safe, from the old 10% to about 5%.
As there can still be some overscan, going out to 100% of raster can create cutoffs, and that is obviously not wanted.
Taking into account the vast number of TV types available today, LED, LCD, Plasma, etc., and the number of screen mfgrs., I would not overlook overscan, but think that you would be safe going to the 10% for the Title Safe (shown as the outer Action Safe recangle) for your Titles - unless some family members still have 4:3 CRT TV's. If they do, then stick with the old Title Safe Area.
    Good luck,

  • Can I use a flat screen monitor with my Power Mac G$?

Can I connect my Power Mac G4 (model M5183) to a modern flat screen monitor? I already tried it with a small flat screen TV which works fine with my MacBook Pro but couldn't make it work with the G4. I only need the G4 for a SCSI slide scanner that I use occasionally, and would love to get rid of the mostrosity of a monitor that came with the G4. I've updated the processor in the G4 to 1 GHz and run it with OS 10.5.8.

Hi Ron, what ports are on the G4's Video card? VGA, DVI, or AGP?
    Which Video card?
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac.

  • My iPod touch 5th generation had white screened an it won't let me rest it by holding down the home button an the power button for ten seconds I've pulled it in to iTunes an its not being detected what can i do as its starting to over heat?

my iPod touch 5th generation had white screened an it won't let me rest it by holding down the home button an the power button for ten seconds I've pulled it in to iTunes an its not being detected what can i do as its starting to over heat?

If you can't get it to shut down or restart when holding down the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons and you can't get it recognized in iTunes to restore it, the iPod may have suffered a hardware failure and will need to go to Apple for service. Someone else here may have additional suggestions, though.
There is no "fifth generation" iPod touch, by the way, just for the sake of clarity; not yet, anyway.

  • HT1212 my iphone is frozen on the lock screen and will not let me enter my passcode, I have held the home button and power button for up to 1 minute and plugged it up to itunes because its locked it wont work? i need help

i have connected it to itunes like i was told to do and it wont do anything because its locked with a passcode and its frozen on the lock screen and will not let me enter myt passcode and after a while it just shuts off, it has been doing this for almost 48 hours. I was told to hold the home button and power button to shut it down and that I could then restart it and it would work... Nothing has helped, What can I try???

Reset the device by pressing and holding the home and power buttons for 15-20 seconds until the white Apple logo appears.
If that does not resolve, restore the device via iTunes on the computer.
If all else fails, take the device to Apple (or whomever provides support in your country) for evaluation and possible replacement.

  • Trouble loading Mac driver for Display Adapter (connecting Mac to flat screen TV)

    Howdy:
I'm trying to connect my Mac (OSX 5) to a flat screen TV.  To do so I just bought a USB 2.0 to HDMI® Display Adapter w/ Audio (1920 x 1080). The mini CD containing the DisplayLink software drivers that came with the unit won't fit in my Mac CD drive. I then tried to download the correct driver from the DisplayLink website, "DisplayLink USB Graphics Macintosh Driver" which appears to be appropriate for OSX 5 (at http://www.displaylink.com/support/mac_downloads.php). This proceeds through the installation steps, then bombs out with the error message that "The following install step failed: run preinstall script for DisplayLink software. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
In the hopes of finding a compatible driver, I looked for an earlier version of the driver on the DisplayLink site, but couldn't find one.
    Help!

Your 20" 2007 iMac has a mini-dvi video out.  Forget about using usb and installing drivers and just use a mini-dvi to HDMI adapter and an HDMI cable instead.

Then connect your audio line out (headphone) to your TV's audio in and you should be set to go.

  • Newest verison of FCP for pre-Intel G5? Flat-screen TV as monitor?

I have a pre-Intel G5 and I'd like to upgrade my FCP Suite. Which version is the "highest" I can use on my computer? I'm pretty sure the newest version is built around the Intel chips and will work slowly on my computer, so I want to get the version that will be best on my system. I'm producing a feature film (shot on 24p SD with a Panasonic AG-DVX100b) and although things are working now (I currently have FCP HD 4.5), I'd like the added bells and whistles of a newer version.
I'd also like to add a TV/monitor to my system because the video appears much darker on my monitors than on a regular TV (even after I calibrated them for video using a Huey Pro color calibrator). I currently have the captured video feeding from my computer through a cheap mini-DV camera via Firewire and then to the TV via RCA cables, which works sporadically, and I also have a SONY DVMC-DA2 analog-to-digital (and vice versa) converter box that works, again, sporadically. Is there a better way to set this up (I probably need to buy an editing deck), and has anyone had any luck (or would anyone advise) using a new 720p flat screen as a TV/monitor?
I have some other questions, but I'll ask those later. I appreciate any comments anyone might have.
    Thanks,
    Lloyd

FCS2 (aka FCP 6) is the last version for PPC machines.
If you are editing DV, keep your existing TV. Playing it back on an HDTV is not the way to go.
Use something like the Matrox MXO to feed the TV.

  • Which Airport card do I need for an iMac G4 Flat Screen 15"?

Hi, I have an iMac G4 (flat screen, with silver arm and round base), 15".
I'd be extremely grateful if someone could let me know which Airport card I need for this Mac and also whether or not I also require an adaptor. I have looked this up on the Apple site and also in 'The Flatscreen iMac for Dummies' book (I'm a complete technophobe, I'm afraid!), but am none the wiser.
If possible, model numbers for the Airport card and adaptor that I do need would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Jeremy

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and click on More Info, or if you're running Mac OS 9, choose Apple System Profiler from the Apple menu. Check the speed of the computer's CPU; if it is below 1GHz, you need the regular AirPort card, with the AirPort Extreme card being used on newer iMacs. No iMac G4 requires an adaptor to use an AirPort card.

  • Using my 17" flat screen for a TV.

I have cable TV and a cable modem for my DSL. I run the cable TV directly to my VCR and use that as the tuner to change channels. I can run the audio from the VCR through my stereo system so don't need the TV for sound. And the sound is so much better than way.
I'm wondering if there is a way for my to use my 17" flat screen monitor from my G4 tower as a TV. I don't use the desktop much. When I upgrade I'm thinking of just getting a new MacBookPro and a Timecapsule and doing away with the desktop. I'd like to repurpose the monitor as a TV.
Is there anything extra I'd need to do this? Would I need an Apple TV or a TV tuner?

I would imagine the only way you would be able to do this would be via an external USB/Firewire Video device that will allow video in connections to your MBP.

  • Samsung flat screen compatible for ebook G4

    Hi,
is an the flat screen Samsung LCO 19'' Syncmaster 940 MW fully compatible with an ebook G4? I am able to have the "copy" screen (2 identical screens) but unable to have 2 "independant" screens. Reading the "help" apple guide, it is mentionned to clic on the "disposition" button (I don't remember the exact name...) but this button is not appearing anyware...
    Thanks!

Go into System Preferences.../Displays. There you should see a check box for video "mirroring." If you uncheck this box, you should get two independent displays.
