~ POWER PC APPLICATIONS NO LONGER SUPPORTED ~

Hello there
I am running on Mac OS X  v 10.8.2
I have a licenced copy of MS Office and have not had a problem using it, until a recent Mac 'update'!
Since then, whenever I try to access it I get the following message:
"You can't open the application 'Microsoft Word' because PowerPC Applications are no longer supported"
How do I resolve this Please? Any ideas?
Cheers
Derek

Workarounds:
1. Revert your Mac to the older version of OS X;
2. Partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) and use the "dual-boot" system to run Word 2004;
3.  Upgrade to Office 2011 or use alternative programs; or
2.  The solution I use: Install Snow Leopard (and Rosetta) into Parallels 7 or 8 and be able to run Word 2004 concurrently with Lion:

Lion no longer supports PowerPC apps. If this is Microsoft Office 2008 (Entourage 2008) then you should disable the syncing services.  (I don't have Office 2008 installed anymore so I don't know exactly what it's called anymore.)  If you have Microsoft Office 2004 or earlier, then it can't be run on Lion at all since Lion removed Rosetta, which is what allowed a PPC app to run on an Intel based Mac.
Also, I believe Microsoft removed sync services from the current Outlook 2011 (which replaces Entourage) so even upgrading to a newer version of Microsoft Office will not get you back that calendar sync feature.  Supposedly Microsoft is working on a new syncing system, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

  • TS3938 Hi, I have a sign being advised Power PC Applications no longer supported when I try to go into Microsoft Word, Excel, Entourage & MSN Messenger, hoe do I resolve this? Any help appreciated.

Hi, I have a sign being advised Power PC Applications no longer supported when I try to go into Microsoft Word, Excel, Entourage & MSN Messenger, hoe do I resolve this? Any help appreciated Sorry, this is for a Mac Air

Most versions of Office 2008 use an Universal installer. A few have one which is PowerPC-only.
In any case, Mac OS X Server 10.6 can be run in emulation, and Rosetta applications can be run in it. Saying that PowerPC-only applications won't run in Mac OS X 10.7 is correct. Saying that they won't run on a Mac which shipped with Mac OS X 10.7 is not.

Ah, you didn't read the fine print on installing Lion, did you? None of your old software will run in Lion.
    You have two choices:
    A) Buy all new or updated software
    B) Partition the hard drive and install an older version of OSX to run your older apps.
You did not give us any idea of what PowerPC apps you were running, so additional options:
    C)  Restore to Snow Leopard
    D)  Install Snow Leopard (and Rosetta which runs PowerPC apps) in Parallels 7 in Lion:

  • How to remove error message power pc applications no longer supported

How do you install photoshop 7.0 disk drive on a mac os x with the error message, "Power PC applications are no longer supported"?

Which version of mac os x are you trying to install photoshop 7 on?
If you really do mean photoshop 7 (cira 2002), then it won't work on any newer intel macs.
Photoshop 7 needs an PowerPC processor and your mac probably uses an intel processor.

  • I transferred documents from older computer to new one and now I cant open.  The computer tells me power pc applications no longer supported.  Is there a way to fix this so I can open?

HI, any help would be greatly apperciated.  I purchased a new iMAC this year and transferred my old docments from very old iMAC (flying saucer looking thing) and now I am trying to open them and cant.  My computer tells me that power pc applications are no longer supported.  Is there a way to save, change or move documents so I can open?  Email to someone else?  Thanks!

As you've found out, Lion dropped support for PowerPC applications. What type of files are you trying to open? What PowerPC application are you using to try to work with them?  Many have had Office 2004 fail to load after migrating to Lion.

  • Why is PowerPC applications no longer supported by Lion

Upgraded to Lion. Tried to open my EPSON SCAN and get message PowerPC applications are no longer supported. What's the deal? how can I open my EPSON SCANNER which I use to email faxes and scan 35 slides to Iphoto. This is not good.

You can try Software Update or go to Epson and download the appropriate driver, if available.

    Hi,
PSC 1315 no longer supported for scanning since Mac OS X v10.5 or while using any newer OS, there is no scan software provided by either HP or Apple (Image Capture)
You may find this information stated below for Leopard, the same apply for any newer OS version:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01234231&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en &os=219&product=374568&sw_lang=
Image capture will not recognize your device as well, only print is supported as you may find listed for teh PSC 1310 Series below:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#HP
Although there is no official scanning support for your device you may still try the 3rd party VueScan software which list your scanner as supported and compatible with Mountain Lion:

  • My iMovie no longer works "PowerPC applications no longer supported"

My iMovie (v. 9.09) no longer works on my MacBook pro with osx 10.7.5, when I try to open the app I get the message "PowerPC applications no longer supported". I tried upgrading, but the mac store says I need osx 10.9 to upgrade. help!

You might try converting the .mp3 files to AIFF 16bit @ 48kHz Stereo just to see if it's a file format problem. AIFF requires iMovie to do much less work to play it back or do any adjustments on it. Easiest way to convert would be to download Audacity and just Export to AIFF I think.

  • PowerPC applications no longer supported...Lion

I installed Lion today and when it finally installed, I discovered I was no longer able to open Sibelius 4 as "PowerPC applications are no longer supported".
I'm hoping that, as with every other upgrade that has eluded the Sibelius makers, they will provide an upgrade that sorts this, but I wanted to ask here to see if anyone else was having issues.
    Thanks in advance!

You need to purchase the most up-to-date version of MS Office if you want to use Office with Lion. You can find if for as low as $100 on Amazon. Think of it this way, you paid $150 about 7 years ago, that comes out to about $1.78 per month....you got your money's worth so it's time to upgrade.

  • I am running OSX 10.9.3 and my Word won't open. It says power pc is not longer supported. What is going on?

I am running OSX 10.9.3 and suddenly my Word program won't open. An error message comes up saying that Power PC applications are no longer supported. What is going on?

that means you have a very old version of MS Office ('04)?.  It can not run on any version of OS X higher than 10.6.8.  You need a more current version, can look at iWork, or try a free program such as OpenOffice or LibreOffice.

  • Lion and "powerPC applications no longer supported" with hp Office jet printer

I have an HP office jet 5510 all in one printer that is no longer compatible with my recent installation of Lion.  The "powerPC applications are no longer supported" prompt comes up when I try to open the app on my dashboard.  Do I need to buy a new printer? To have it be compatible with Lion? If I do, which type of printer and software do I need to be sure of to make the two compatible with Lion?

Possibly.  Check the HP website and make sure your drivers up to date.  If you need a new printer, look for one that says it is compatible with Lion.

  • Sims 2 Mac OS X 10.8 Powerpc applications no longer supported

I have recently purchased the entire Sims 2 collection for use on my fairly new MacBook Pro, Version OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4
However, I am unable to install the game due to 'Powerpc applications to longer being supported' being displayed when I click open. I have researched this online and have learnt that many others have also had this problem, however I am confused as to how I overcome the issue, if even possible!?
I'm no wizz kid, I don't understand. I just want to play on Sims 2!!!! Help!!!!!!

Report your concerns to the game manufacturer.  Apple has nothing to do with this as it is not their software.
