Power, PoE & BTUs
I'm trying to figure the true number of BTU's that a 3750E-48PD-F puts out. Cisco lists in two separate documents that the max BTU/hr for this device is 3939 (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps7077/products_data_sheet0900aecd805bbe67.html) and 3924 (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps7077/prod_models_comparison.html).
However, a note found in documentation referencing an 8700W power supply for a 6500 series switch states, "Note: ~90% of PoE power is dissipated at the PoE device and along the cabling and not at the switch closet itself. Plan for cooling capacity for the switch closet accordingly". (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_data_sheet0900aecd8059a1ef.html)
If the note on the power supply is correct, then I believe that Cisco's posting of 3939 and/or 3924 BTU/hr is very misleading.
How should the maximum BTU/hr for a 3750E-48PD-F (or any other PoE switch) be figured? Using Cisco's listed maximum BTU/hr or by following the note that states approximately 90% of the power (heat) will be dissipated at the far end?
The maximum power supplied by the Cisco Catalyst 3750-E PoE is 15.4W per port, total PoE power available on the Cisco Catalyst 3750-E with 48 PoE ports would depend on the installed power supply modules in the switch. With a 1150W power supply the 48-port switch can support up to 15.4W of power per port. The pairs 2 and 3 (pins 1, 2, 3, and 6) of the four pairs in Category 3 and 5 cables are used for both the Ethernet data signals and the DC power at the same time. The PD must accept either polarity of power from either pair set. This allows both crossover and straight cables to be used. Only straight cables should be used with the prestandard Cisco PDs.

Catalyst Express 500 Series WS-CE500-24PC PoE
Inline power (PoE)
Can some one confirm PoE Spec's and a little confused reading the spe'c
the spec say
●All 24 PoE ports on the Cisco Catalyst Express 500-24PC can supply up to 15.4W
(IEEE 802.3af standard maximum) of power over Category 5 cable, for a total of 370W
of inline power.
● Both the IEEE 802.3af PoE standard and Cisco prestandard inline power are supported
I have cisco 7940G witch are Prestandard so this switch will power the Phones on PoE ?
does not say it will supply PoE for Prestandard Phones just say its Supported
ThanksHi Colin,
Yes, the switch will power prestandard 7940s. Specs state it works on both 802af and cisco prestandard poe.
Best,
David

LMS3.1/RME: inventory report
Hi,
I would like to get an information about gigaStack port on switch inventory.
I have generated an Detail device Report but I didn't get this information.
I can find this information by show interface status | include GigaStack on switch :Gi0/1 connected trunk a-full a-1000 1000BaseCX Gigastack
Gi0/2 connected trunk a-full a-1000 1000BaseCX Gigastack
So, I try with RME -> Tools -> Netshow. see file attached.
I get the information but I prefered to get it in with a report because I need to get thoses informations for 150 devices.
Is there a way to get it on a report ?
When I look at RME->Admin-> Inventory-> Change Filter,
I think that there are more port information compare to report generator.

Hello to everyone. They brought me a LAP1522 referring that it is not working properly. I am trying to connect to console port but the problem is that I only get log messages but I cannot edit something or type any commands. I have attached the log messages if you can catch something from there. Ignore the messages about not finding controller because the AP has been removed from the real network to my office.

Sorry for this stupid question,
but is there anyway to access directly a LAP 1522 using a console port?
Best Regards.Yes all the settings are as you suggested. Scott the problem is that it does not allow me to type anything. I have attached the log messages if you can catch something from there. Ignore the messages about not finding controller because the AP has been removed from the real network to my office.

Autonomous 1142 AP shuts down 2.4 radio interface
As we transition buildings to our lightweight infrastructure we're installing new autonomous 1142 APs to fill in gaps and swapping out older 1242s with autonomous 1142s. What we're seeing is that some of these APs, running the latest IOS code available, are shutting down their 2.4 GHz radios. The only thing in the logs is:
%LINK-5-CHANGED: Interface Dot11Radio0, changed state to reset
%LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface Dot11Radio0, changed state to down
The only residual elements that are found (most times) is on the client association page where we'll see what amounts to stale client sessions. There are two flavors of such stale sessions. Associations to open networks show clients with IP addresses of 0.0.0.0, the MAC addresses are still listed, and the state is "Associated". For 802.1x based associations clients show their assigned IP addresses, MAC addresses, and the state appears as "EAP-Associated".
I was looking at some of the open caveats with IOS release 12.4(21a)JY to see if anything matched up with the problem I’m seeing. In the bug toolkit, bug CSCtg09159 (might be related to our problem?) is stated as being “Fixed-in” release 12.4(21a)JHB.
Anyone seen the problem we're seeing? Anyone know when 12.4(21a)JHB is scheduled for release?I'm glad to see that I'm not going crazy.
%LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface Dot11Radio0, changed state to down
I have had what seems to be the same issue with my 1142N (autonomous; no controller). It will work for a day or so and then all of a sudden the radio(s) will go down (e.g., be disabled). For example, when I came back to the site Radio0-802.11N2.4GHz was disabled while Radio1-802.11N5GHz was enabled. Devices were able to connect to the AP an hour earlier can now no longer find the AP. When this happens the LED on the AP will usually remain light blue which implies, I believe, a connection which is odd considering there are none when this occurs.
I won't be able to reconnect to the 1142N until I reset the AP. Usually I have to pull the power (POE through Cisco injector) to achieve this as issuing a reset from the web management page does not always work.

Note: "channel least-congested" was enabled by default and is currently enabled.
I've read that the AP can shut down radio(s) based on power but I don't see any power messages in the log. Under System Power Settings of the web management page it reports NON_CISCO-NO_CDP_RECEIVED but the radio(s) work fine for at least a day when the AP is reset. I'm currently using a Cisco AIR-PWRINJ4 injector and I've also tried using the POE port on a Cisco ASA5505. Same issue.
I've had a pending SR with Cisco TAC for over a month and have made it no where fast. I've sent them logs with show controllers d0, show controllers d1, show log and show tech per their request. Having to manually reset my AP every other day is ridiculous! -

I am purchasing a lab to start my VOIP classes. What elese do I need in order to plug in exsiting telephone lines into router to make outbound calls and recieve inbound calls?

PVDM-12 DSP
CME 4.1(w/GUI, 7940-7960 phone loads, Music-On-Hold, Ringtones), SDM v2.5, inline power/POE
Would I also need to get FXO/FXS cards as well?
Thanks for the helpYou can have your Digital phones send and receive calls through your VWIC.
However, you'll be tested on configuring analog ports as well. If you want to connect your land line and have calls received and sent through it....you'll need FXS/FXO interfaces.
Then you can send and receive calls from both Voip phones & Analog phones through your POTS line if you'd like.
So....you're almost there for your lab.

Hello,
I have a question regarding the power consumption of a Cisco 2951 router with an AC-PoE power supply (without PoE boost).
In fact in the table (n°7) of the Cisco 2900 Series ISR (G2) datasheet, that sum up the power consumption data for Cisco 2900 series routers there is the line : "Maximum Power with PoE Power Supply (Platform Only) (Watts)", and I would like to know what is exactly the meaning about the mention "Platform Only".
Thank you for your help, best regards,Hi @francois.trarieux,
This is the maximum power that is consumed exclusively by the router from the PoE PS (Power Supply). The power capacity that the PoE PS gives to other PoE devices (IP Phones, Cameras, APs, etc) is specified in the line below "Maximum End-Point PoE Power Available from PoE Power Supply (Watts)" of the datasheet.

SLM224P POE issue after power outage
Have recently experienced an issue where after a power outage, the device recovers with the exception of the POE ports. This device supports POE on 12 of 24 ports. I have two wireless radios (currently, with plans to expand POE need) on port e1 and e18 (poe is on 1-6 and 12-18). The devices on the non-POE ports all came back up fine following the outage, but the two radios remained inactive despite what the port management details indicated. The java indicatons indicated the ports were down, contrasting the port detail page. There was no power on either port. I recovered by logging into the unit and instigating a reboot at which point all the devices came back.
This is the second time that this has happened, the first time being written off as a fluke. I consider this a pretty serious flaw as the POE aspect is just as vital, if not more so, than a standard non-POE port recovery. The unit is on a UPS, but the outage exceeded the battery duration. The device should recover all operations automatically, without any human intervention. I see that the SRW224P also has similar issues.
There also appears to be a bug in the time setting routine. In some instances I keep getting a message indicating that the time must be later than the time being set...due to the daylight savings time. Turn this off, then set the time and then turn back DST back on. A NTP (auto) server setting would be nice.I would like to think power could be a factor as a reboot did recover the device, but as stated, it was on a UPS. Granted the battery had depleted and I guess a disturbance might have gotten by (maybe on the power-up cycle), but the device did function fine on the non-POE ports. Seems to be more of a device issue in its ability to recover and know that it has done so correctly. I like the device, just scared as I can't control when an outage or disturbance might occur and the management interface indicates the ports are up when in fact, thay are not. Thanks for the thought though, I will at least try a different make UPS.

Aironet 1310, power injector and poe cable
Hello,
Can the power injector delivered with aironet 1310 be supplied by a PoE RJ45 cable rather than the traditionnel DC adapter?
The problem is, i thought Aironet 1310 was PoE. Which means it can be power supplied by a rj45 cable.
But, when i openned my brand new 1310 box, i realized that 1st, it needs that Power Injector to work and that 2nd, Power injector needs a power supply...
Usually when i buy a PoE access point, I just plug in my PoE rj45 cable and its power supplied :)
Anyway, i hope there's an issue for this because where the 1310 should be placed, there's only a PoE rj45 cable arriving.
Thanks in advance,
lachapelleHi lachapelle,
Sadly the 1310 cannot be powered by PoE ,but, the Power Injector can be up to 100 meters away from the unit.
Dual coaxial cable to run from the power injector to the 1300. See attached notes:
Cisco Aironet 1300 Series
Cisco Aironet 1300 Series Access Point/Bridge Power Injector
The Cisco Aironet 1300 Series Outdoor Access Point/Bridge Power Injector, converts the standard 10/100 BaseT Ethernet interface that is suitable for weather protected areas to a dual F-Type connector interface for coax cables that are more suitable for harsh outdoor environments. The Power Injector also provides power to the outdoor unit over the same cables with a power discover feature and surge protection. To support longer cable runs from your wireless network switch or router, the Power Injector LR is designed to accommodate up to a 100 meter coaxial cable run plus 100 meters of indoor cat5 cable?enabling total cable runs up to 200 meters. The Cisco Aironet 1300 Series Outdoor Access Point/Bridge ships with the Power Injector LR2 and an AC power supply.

Ethernet Ports
The access point/bridge dual-coax Ethernet ports consists of a pair of 75-ohm F-type connectors, linking the unit to your 100BASE-T Ethernet LAN through the power injector. The dual-coax cables are used to send and receive Ethernet data and to supply inline 48-VDC power from the power injector to the access point/bridge.
Power
The access point/bridge receives inline power from the Cisco Aironet Power Injector (hereafter called the power injector). Dual-coax cables are used to provide Ethernet data and power from the power injector to the access point/bridge. The power injector is an external unit designed for operation in a sheltered environment, such as inside a building or vehicle. The power injector also functions as an Ethernet repeater by connecting to a Category 5 LAN backbone and using the dual-coax cable interface to the access point/bridge.

What is the benefit of using POE than AC Power?
Hi,
We are currently research on what is the benefit of POE over AC Power for wireless AP.
Most of AP we are using is 1252 and 1142.
Anyone can tell the different?Hi,
Try to plan to install both scenarios and you'll know the difference yourself.
Besides what Leo mentioned, imagine that you are going to use AC power and for every AP you are going to install a power outlet close to the AP to power it up.
Now, if later you decided to change the AP location you need to install a new power outlet in the new place. The old power outlet is usually left wihtout use. extra cabling, extra waste of resources (materials, man power...etc).
