I purchased new computer and Win 2007 and Office professional 2010 in Sept. am running When i try to launch Power Point it says cant launch MSVCR80.dll is missing, but when I do drive search there are 7 instances. how do i point PP to the dll

Mscvr80.dll is a file used by the "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" to help run several advanced features in the various software tools on your PC.
What’s the version of your OS?
I suggest using SFC to scan and fix the system file errors.
1.
Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
2.
Type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc
/scannow
Note: The sfc
/scannow command scans all system files and will recover the corrupted ones.

Power Point won't run

Suddenly the Power Point application won't run properly it open but it would not run the presentation. Any solution to this matter?

Since PowerPoint is not an Apple product, you'll probably want to use a forum dedicated to Microsoft's Mac products such as <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups> rather than an Apple forum that focuses on compatibility issues between Macs and Windows.

Exporting to power point -- won't play some animations/.mov files

I had to export a keynote presentation to power point for a co worker.
When I open the file on a PC, I get a message saying that "PowerPoint was unable to display some of the text, images, or objects in the file because they have become corrupted. Affected slides have been replaced by blank slides in the presentation and it is not possible to recover the lost information." There is only one slide that has been unaffected -- one or two have the barest text in them, and that's only partial. The rest are completely blank.
In addition, the export created a folder with some .mov files in it. I'm guessing that at least some of these files are for an animation in the slides.
Can anyone tell me what is going on -- has anyone else gotten this message? It's PowerPoint 2007 if that makes any difference.

To begin with, exporting KN to PP, or vice-versa, often results in an inexact translation. Sometimes there is no noticable difference, but there are often problems, ranging from small to insoluble, for any number of reasons. In addition, even with the same app, PP, for instance, one on a Mac and the other on a PC, going from one OS to another sometimes results in problems. And finally, just plain transporting a presentation from one machine to another, even with the same OS, can be a problem.
It seems you have at least two problems, which should be tackled in order, and the first one is KN to PP on your Mac. Does this play fine, or are there problems? This must be answered and resolved, if possible, before going on to the PP/Mac > PP/Windows or transport part.

I have uninstalled and re-installed Xcelsius with the same results.
Also, when I open Crystal Reports 2008, the "Crystal Reports 2008 SP1 - Software Manager" opens and shows an update available - SP2. When I try to install the update, it downloads and then displays a message the this update is only available for Crystal Reports 2008 SP1. I believe that is my current version.
After some research, I believe my CR Runtime app may be a different version than what Xcelsius.exe is expecting, but I don't know how to check or fix that. Any help is appreciated.

I think I've managed to fix this error. I compared the TreeBtnExtDll.dll in my Xcelsius directory on the machine that wasn't working and one that was and found that the broken machine was using an older and smaller version of TreeBtnExtDll.dll. 89k and a date in 2008 I think. So I copied my newer version which was 109 k and dated 11/2009 into the C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Xcelsius directory of the broken machines and now xcelsius appears to be working fine.
I had lots of trouble installing the SP3 release because of the media issues so maybe the install wasn't complete.
Anyway, I hope this helps you

Except... during launch of CSS 8.3 (w & w/o patch installed - tried both ways), an error window pops up with:

HELP! Anyone have ANY idea what the above lingo is re CSS and why it won't launch without popping up a window with this error, whatever it is??
I'm days into this reinstall and this is my "last" hangup / called support and they won't touch it since i didn't BUILD it with Windows 7 from them... just don't get this mindset. Only spent 5 digits (around $20,000 +) with Lenovo so far last year / may be the last dollar - I've run into many issues with support lately, for one the T61p I have has had 2 sys boards swapped, processor, 2 keyboards (after "loose screws from sys board swap" were found rolling around inside - yes, loose) among many other issues / only TP I've ever had issues with / want to stay with them, but if I have to fight city hall to swap out a lemon, heading out into the wild blue.

I have the same problem with the store. I click the link, and it looks like the store is loading. However, all I get is a white screen.
Also, my new Iphone 4s will only get to "step 2 of 5, backing up iphone." I left the phone connected to the computer all night, and when I woke up, it was still at the same spot, with no progress made.
I've uninstalled, everything from apple, rebooted the computer, and then re-installed the latest itunes. Still nothing.

Power point project won't move to the next slide

I create a project with several power point slides and then some automation and then slides again. The automation created within captivate moves from slide to slide. But the power point slides don't move to the next slide automatiacally. I have to click on next to make them move. I looked in the manual and can't find a source to tell me what to do with the slides to make them move automatically (like a slide show would be). Any suggestions?

When you import a PPT, you have two options. One option allows the PPT to just play through. The other option inserts a Click Box object on slides that prevents the slide from moving forward until clicked by the user. The choice is made in the dialog.
The default is On mouse click. After your slides arrive, the timeline looks like this:
To allow the slide to move forward, delete the Click Box.

All of a sudden my mac won't open power points that I have saved on my flashdrives

I have microsoft office 2010 for my mac. All of a sudden when I try to open power points i have saved on flash drives, I get gebberish and they don't open. It isnt the flash drive because it is happening on every one I try to open.

It could be opening it in a different (incompatible) application. If you have Office for Mac 2008 or 2011 then try opening Microsoft Office on your Mac first, and then opening the relevant Microsoft Office document.
As MGW has said, Microsoft Office 2010 is the Windows version, and will not run on a Mac. If you do not have a Mac version of Mirosoft Office, you will either need to purchase it from microsoft.com/mac, or go to the Mac App Store and buy Keynote which is Apple's equivalent of PowerPoint. However, while it is incredibly compatible with Office documents (Apple's productivity suite), you may be better off getting Microsoft Office if you want to ensure full compatibility with the Microsoft Office document formats. However, Keynote is considerably cheaper being in the Mac App Store.

Can I export in Power Point or PDF Xcelsious Dashboard if BICS is used?

Is it possible to export in Power Point or PDF the Dashboard that is created by Xceslius in case the Business Intelligence Consumer Service (BICS) is used to retrieve Data from SAP BW?
I am placing this question because we are at the point of deciding which method of connectivity between Xcelsious and SAP BW will be selected bearing in mind that our customer would like to distribute dashboards in PPT or PDF format apart from viewing them within SAP EP.

Hi Mike,
This won't work when you export to PDF/PPT. You have to publish the SWF to the SAP BW system and launch it from there if you want to run it with live data from BW.

All apps won't launch

I was using MAMP and tried to stop the servers without any result. Then used cmd-optn-esc to kill the program but didn't get the force quit screen.
So I hold the power button 10sec for a restart. However, since then none of the applications will launch. After bouncing 20 times in the dock nothing happens. Tried rebooting with the Apple DVD and repaired volumes and permissions but still the same problem. I see my desktop, and the Finder opens but that's all. I can't open any file because the app won't launch and just bounces 20-30 times in the dock.
When I click on the blue Apple logo I get a spinning wheel so the only way to restart is to hold the power button for 10 seconds.
Does anybody have a solution for my problem?

When I connect my MacBook Air to iPads through a powered USB hub the power cord for the hub explodes and trips the fuse on the building. I've tried different iPads, cords, power points to no avail.

When I connect my mac air to some iPads through a powered USB hub for VPP/Configurator, the power point for the hub blows out (tripping the fuse in the building). I've tried different iPads, cords, power points and of course hubs. Also the computer has a habit of shutting down when any type of USB device is removed from it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've done some experimenting, and this is what I've found out:
1) The problem persists when I reformatted the USB HDD devices to ExFAT, so the problem apparently wasn't due to NTFS for Mac OS X by Paragon.
2) The problem persists even when BackBlaze is paused, so I don't think that it's due to BackBlaze.
3) The internet cuts out as soon as data begins transferring either to or from a USB HDD device and won't reconnected until I eject and unplug the device.
4) The problem affects data transfers through either USB port.

My X11 programs won't launch

I have two applications that run under X11: Xephem and Open Office.
About the time I upgraded to OS 10.5.4 I noticed that they wouldn't start. Today I looked at the discussion groups here and upgraded to X11 2.3.1. They still won't launch. Before they would just hang up without giving any error messages, but now when I try to start Xephem I get:
sh: line 0: cd: /usr/local/xephem: No such file or directory
sh: ../bin/xephem: No such file or directory
It sounds like X11 just needs to be pointed to the proper directory, but I don't know how to do that. I never did get the hang of working with the command line.
As for OpenOffice, I get this:
The application soffice.bin quit unexpectedly.
I don't know what to do about that.

Looks like the upgrade might have done something to those application installs. The error you're seeing is from a wrapper script that is used to start Xephem. This script is looking for the actual binaries in a directory located in /usr/local/xephem, which now doesn't seem to exist on your system anymore. Likely it's looking for the "bin" subdirectory in that directory, in which would be the actual application binaries.
In any event, this wrapper script can no longer find these directories. Before trying to do much manual digging to see what happened, I'd just try to reinstall Xephem. That should be a fairly safe thing to try...

7.0.2 won't launch

....same problem as a lot of people....itunes was working fine, but after upgrade to 7.0.2, the program won't launch....i keep getting an error message that says the program unexpectedly quit, do i want to send a report, etc......sent various reports.....tried reverting to 6.0.5, but it now does the same thing....anybody besides me think this is the worst version of itunes ever?.....fwiw, i'm using the most recent version of tiger on a 1.5ghz ppc powerbook and 2gb of ram....no problems w/any other software except itunes....any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.....it's to the point that i'm scared to do the upgrade on my powermac......please help....kP!

I made the same mistake. Upgraded to iTunes 7.0.2 on my Powerbook G4 running 10.3.9. Now neither iTunes nor iPhoto will launch (both were fine in the minutes before I installed 7.0.2). I have Quicktime 7.1.3 installed, and I do have norton software on this computer. I have no idea what to do. Can someone PLEASE help! I don't know what version of iTunes I was running before I upgraded.

ITunes won't launch after system re-install?

I had to reinstall Snow Leopard after my finder disappeared (I'm assuming some corruption to finder but who knows). Anyhow, I've spent all day re-installing Snow Leopard and bringing it back up to 10.6.6. Many of my third party apps needed to be re-installed as did major apps like FM Pro 11. But the Apple app. that won't launch is iTunes 10.4.1. Anybody with any thoughts on why this is happening and how I can resolve it? Thank you.

I re-verified permissions, shut down and removed all power (inc battery)- restarted and itunes started when launched from doc. I don't know what the difference was, but it seems to be working.
