Power Problem (Adapter doesn't light up)

On my Powerbook, which is about 1.5 years old, the adaptor charge light went off. The battery drained after this happened (Adaptor is no longer charging). The first time this happened I tried pulling out the battery for five min, and restarting. That did the trick. The same thing happened tonight where the adaptor charge light went off, and the battery drained on down. This time pulling the battery doesn't work.
Anyone know what is likely going on here?
My Superdrive that had gone south months ago, I just had repaired a few weeks ago. The computer functioned fine after the repair. Thought I'd throw that in in case it is pertinent.
Thanks for any help. Michael

Bad & good news: Bad—The fix I described stopped working, and my machine reverted to draining the battery and the adapter no longer powering the computer. Good—Resetting the PRAM completely solved the problem. It's been a few days now and the problem has not recurred. In fact, I couldn't get it to replicate the problem after many tries.
My next step if it hadn't worked would have been resetting the PMU. Both are described here:

  • Adapter doesn't light up bright...just very very dim. No power on macbook

I got my macbook from a friend about 3 months ago (he purchase it about a year and a hlaf ago.) He spilled a beverage on it and it fried the battery but it still worked without battery.
About a week ago it wouldn't power on with the adapter, I purchased a new adapter assuming that was the problem. When I plugged it in to the macbook the LED is very very dim green and the macbook still won't power.
Last night it all of a sudden turned bright green and powered on and this morning it was back to dim and I can't get it to power for anything.
Do you think it is because of the liquid even having worked for 3 months after the spill...Would you have any tips to getting this to power on?

  • Simpler networks power line adapter doesn't suppor...

    Hello all,
I am new to BT and youview. Over the weekend I set up youview and have been playing around a bit. The experience so far isn't great - especially I was trying to play the movie Madagascar from iPlayer and literally youview struggled to load. It took around 25 minutes for first 5 minutes of the movie. Needless to say I gave up. What I found was the moment I press play button on the remote the data LED on powerline adapter to which youview is connected turns either red or amber! I tried resetting the adapter but it consistently goes red or amber. If I move to regular channels, it's happily back to green...! Later I found that streaming anything causes this. I checked the Internet and it was consistently above 20 Mbps (on 75 Mbps line). What is wrong with bt/youview? Please help.

The red / amber lights indicate that the speed at which the powerlines talk to each other is slow, and probably too slow to stream TV.  I believe (although someone can correct me if I'm wrong) that amber means they connect to each other at < 10Mbps and red means < 4Mbps.  Nothing to do with your broadband link, it'll be a problem with the internal wiring in your house slowing the link between the powerlines down.
Not much you can do about that unfortunately short of getting an ethernet cable long enough to reach the hub form your TV or getting a longer cable from your phone socket to bring your hub nearer to the TV.

  • LED on the adapter connector doesn't light up

Sometimes The LED on the adapter connector doesn't light up when attached to the computer and computer doesn't sharge. When I eject it and inverse it, it works! sometimes it doesn't work in both sides. Whats the problem?
My Macbook pro model is retina 2013 me864.

Try a different charger. If your computer is under warranty so is the charger and Apple will replace it.

  • Computer won't turn on and the power cord doesn't light up

My problem with the computer is that it will not turn on. The battery is fully charged, power cord is plugged into a working outlet. I have held down the power button for 10 second or even longer. Nothing turns it on and the power cord doesn't light up at all. Any thing will help.
    Thanks

First, check that your AC outlet has power. Second, see this article: Intel-based iMac- What to do if your computer won't turn on and this one Resetting MacBook and MacBook Pro System Management Controller (SMC).

  • My computer's power adapter is plugged into a power source, yet the indicator light is not working and my computer is not being charged.

My computer's power adapter is plugged into a power source, yet the indicator light is not working and my computer is not being charged.

    I have the same issue.
The magsafe goes orange for about 20 seconds, the battery shows 0% then it goes to a black X indicating no battery installed.
With a new battery the same happens, although it can run on battery but does not charge.
It runs fine on mains power, the green light is always lit.
I have tried several things so far:
    1. Cleaned the magsafe contacts on cable and macbook
    2. Reset SMC and PRAM
    3. Installed latest battery update
    4. Tried new battery
    5. Put old battery in fridge for an hour
I work in IT and am fairly confident taking it apart, what should I try next?
Some people recommend a new battery connector, which doesn't seem to make sense as the battery has never been removed before.  Also some people say it will need a new logic/motherboard.
Any experts here managed to sucessfully fix one of these?

  • Two problems with my iPhone: screen doesn't light up at notifications & iPhone says updated apps still need to be updated

Alright, I'm having two annoying problems with my iPhone. It's an iPhone 4.
    I'm using the latest iOS.
The first problem is that when I get a notification (a mail, text message, whatever), I hear the sound that it makes, but the screen doesn't light up. Then, when I click the home or the turn-on / off button (basically when I'm in the lock menu), it doesn't show the notification either. Yet, in the notification settings, I've set up to show them. For example mails. I just received a few mails. For mail, I've selected the banner in the notification center. But I see no banner. I see nothing in fact. I can unlock my phone and go in mail, and see the mail there.
What could be the reason for this? I've recently done some changes on it, I mean, not exactly on the iPhone, but in iTunes. I removed all photos from my iPhone (over 3000) and all songs that were on it. I decided to sync only the latest 3 months of photos and 3 months of music. I don't think it's related but it's the last thing I've done with it, and since then this has been happening, so I thought I'd mention it.
My second problem is that, while I was updating my music and photo library on my iPhone, I also synced all app updates. I have around 6 or 7 of them, lurking there for a while, and I never got the time to download them in iTunes and sync them with my iPhone. So that's what I did as well. Strangely enough, when I visit the App Store app, under Updates, it still tells me I have 5 apps to update. I remember one I updated on the iPhone itself.
They're all listed there with the little bar that shows up when it's loading, except it isn't loading. It's just stuck there, at the very beginning. No, not even at the beginning, because the blue little bar that moves forward isn't even present. The also show up this way on my iPhone "desktop" (Home), and it says "Waiting..." below them.
I've tried syncing again, and also restarting the iPhone, but it didn't help. Anyone know what's wrong here?
I appreciate all help. Cheers guys

Nobody? The second problem is solved! But my phone still doesn't light up or shows a banner or anything when for example a mail arrives?

  • HT1119 BATTERY IS DISPLAYING (NOT CHARGING) -What to do if your Mac Book Pro 13" even if it is on the power source adapter. I have dim all the lights and other energy saver as instructed. Any advice please .

Hi- My Macbook pro 13" is not charging and displaying the ( not charging ) sign evenif it is in the power source & adapter. Have tried all the dim all display lights and close unsed applications ( except not too sure about the close running applications)
    Please help ?

Does the light come on in the power connector that connects to the Mac? If not then it is not getting any power. That light is either Green or Amber. Green for fully (and or Almost Fully) charged and Amber when the system is charging the battery. No light means the AC adapter is either not getting any power from the Wall Outlet or the AC adapter or the Mac is broken. In either of the last 2, broken AC adapter or broken Mac, you can replace the AC adapter yourself but if it's the Mac then only Apple can fix that.
Not much troubleshooting to do. You either don't have power to the AC adapter or the AC adapter is broken or the Mac is broken. It is one of those 3 things.

  • G4 MDD won't start. Power button doesn't light up.

I just moved, shipped my computer (a G4 mirrored door drive) and when I unpacked it and plugged it in, it wouldn't even act like there was power to it. No light up on the power button, no chime, no nothing. I used my Blackberry to troubleshoot and ended up resetting the PMU.
Today, about a week later, I was having trouble with my internet so I shut everything down and flipped the switch on my powerstrip to reset it. (GRR. I probably should have just unplugged the modem and plugged it bag in.) Now, my computer is doing the same thing. Now lights, no chimes, nada.
Should I reset the PMU again? Is that bad to do? Why would it possibly be doing this again?
    Help!

Unplugging your Mac from it's power source causes the battery to discharge as it trys to maintain PRAM settings and the Macs clock. If you have done this before, or often cut power off to your Mac via a power strip or wall switch, your battery may be depleted. Since it's not a rechargable battery it'll need to be replaced. You can also check it with a voltmeter.
Even if you have'nt done it before, this disconnect may have been enough to kill it, if it was weak to begin with.
I would check it first. When mine went, I had no response from my Mac at all; just a light on my power button; absolutely no boot at all.
Check out things in Texas Mac Man's tutorial on the subject. His tutorial is a little dated (don't believe it even mentions G5's) but the info in it, except SMU not being included, still applies.
    Cheers!

+You may have already done this, but do you have the first AirPort Express configured to "Allow this network to be extended"?+
Could not find that setting anywhere.
It's in AirPort Utility, AirPort panel, Wireless tab.
When I'm within the range of the base station I connect normally, but further away the connection drops despite the fact that the other Airport is very close and light is green. Interestingly, my PB Pro has signal almost everywhere in the house, but my iPhone and Mac Mini don't. Most likely just a hardware difference?
In AirPort Utility with the second Express, in the AirPort panel, Wireless tab, have you checked "Allow wireless clients"?
The second AP does show an IP address: 10.0.1.3.
With a "Configure IPv4" setting of "Using DHCP", that suggests that the second Express really is connecting to the first Express. In that case I have no other explanation of your your problem.

  • Wallstreet Power Problem

I recently acquired a Macintosh Powerbook G3 Wallstreet in pristine condition. I have heard of a documented problem where if the AC Adapter and Battery are removed, along with other combinations of removing/restoring power, the system will not boot solely on battery power, even though the battery is fully charged. Once I reinsert the adapter, the sleep light lights up and the fan kicks in full speed before shutting down. Then the system operates normally. No one seems to have the definite solution so I turn here.
My system is a Wallstreet II, 233MHz, 14.1in screen, OS 9.2.2. A little more about me since I am new here, I also own a G3 Pismo, 500MHz, 640MB RAM, OS X 10.4.7
