Power quality disturbances

hi friends,
I am not able to generate voltage unbalance and transients using labview8.0.If anyone can suggest me of a way ,it would be of a great help to me.
                                                                                                                                                                              Thanking in anticipation,
                                                                                                                                                                               preitwi

hi mathan sir,
basically, what i have to do is to generate the power quality disturbances like sag, unbalance, harmonics etc using labview 8.0.Since there is very limited material available in the net and moreover i am new to labview,i am facing problems in generating those events.
I have attached a few of the disturbances which i think will give you a fair idea of what i am trying to generate.
Thanks,
 prithwi

  • Three-Phase Power Analyzer, Etc.

    Hi All,
I'm not sure if this is the right board for this question, or if I should ask it on one of the hardware boards.  Let me know if I should move it, please.
I need to set up a LabVIEW-based system to monitor the following:
    1.  Output from three-phase power analyzer (480VAC, 0-100AAC) - this could involved monitoring formatted power-quality data from a power analyzer OR monitoring voltage and current on all phases, then doing the power quality calcs in LabVIEW
    2.  DC output current (0-200ADC) - This needs to be relatively fast (2000 samples/sec), but not very precise (0.1A resolution would be fine).
    3.  DC output voltage (0-600VDC) - Again, this needs to be fast but not very precise.  See current specs, above.
    4.  CAN bus - I'll be monitoring a CAN bus and processing CAN data, probably using an NI USB-8473.  I have much of the CAN code written already.
Any suggestions on how I should proceed?  Has anyone had good results with specific power analyzers tied into an NI-based system?  What about current probes?  High voltage meters?  Is there any pre-written LabVIEW code for three-phase power analysis?
    Many thanks in advance.

Hmm... I have used a few three phase power analyzers from Voltech, Valhalla, and Yokogawa with LabView.
Right now I would say Yokogawa has my vote. Either the WT230 or (if you got the budget) a WT500. I am currently using both and find the Yokogawa supplied LabView vi's complete and full featured. Since neither of these can measure 100 amps directly you will need to use external current transformers. For best results I recommend buying matching current clamps from Yokogawa when you buy the analyzer Their use is pretty straight forward just enter the scaling factor into the instrument and the readings will be ranged correctly.
DC current and voltage that high will require a current shunt and some scaling for your voltage. Then you could measure it with any decent DAQ device, maybe a cheap as a NI-USB6009. We like to use the Agilent 34970A with a 34901A multiplexer card for this application. The 34970A/34901A is our Engineering Lab workhouse it has the benefit of ISOLATED CHANNELS direct measurement of 300VAC/DC and it can read thermocouples.

  • Measuring power at two different point (single phase)

    Hi all,
I am new user of LabVIEW 2013 with electrical power suite.
May i know how to measure two different point of single phase system using the same VI such as in DAQ power and energy example?
As I notice that there are several type of wiring available. Is only one voltage and one current availabe during 1 ph voltage and 1 current selection. Thus, when I select 3ph voltage and 2 current, the value I obtain is not seem to be true.
From the figure attached, I want to measure the voltage at current at the solar/PV  to obtain the power value. Other than that, I also need to measure the voltage and current at the load such as water heater. This is a single phase configuration network.
(2 voltage and 2 current measurement at single phase)
    Hope for guidance.

    Hi Lewis,
    Here attached the file.
Actually I wanted to measure power two different point in a single phase system as shown in the first attachement.
Since, there is example in power quality measurement(DAQ) as shown in the second attachment.
since there is two measuring point in my measurement. May i know how to obtain two measurement voltage at the same time in DAQ?
    Hope for guidance.

  • Electrical power energy auditing

I am  doing a project on power supply monitoring system with labview. The main aim of the project is monitoring and data logging the signals from non contact type hall effect current sensors. Voltage and current are the two main parameters which is to be measured. Electrical power is the another parameter need to measure. I don't know how to start the task.
    Help me......
Just give me a basic idea of how to start and provide me a basic vi for the task.

    Hi sharavanen,
    Sorry for replying late.
I suggest you refer to COMTRADE Logging examples from EPS toolkit. This example provides a solution to log voltage and current parameters (and other "electrical power" parameters if you add such VI's mainly from PQ category in the palette).
There are things that you should notice:
    1. Choose your wiring method on the block diagram.
    2. If you need to log more paramters, you have to add such VIs yourself. You can refer to Power Quality examples in this regard.
    3. If you choose to use other target and/or modules than what's in the example, you have to modify the target in the project and/or FPGA VI to convert the fixed point data precision (details in the example's builtin help and description).

    Hello,
It looks like Agilent/HP makes the 8990A, but I was not able to find a driver for it that we or Agilent has written for this device.
Since I am not familiar with the 8990A, I cannot recommend which drivers might be similar, but you are pointed in the right direction. Agilent themselves might know more about which models use similar command sets so that you can modify a driver easily.
    Hope this helps.

  • 13" MacBook Pro w/ 65W power adapter.

Are the 65W power adapters for the 13" MBP sensitive to power fluctuations? Mine is not working at my inlaws (rural area) but seem to work at home in a more urban area.

Every power supply has input power quality tolerances.
If yours works in one location but not another, then the input power is not within those tolerances.
This excerpt from Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters may be applicable:
    Identify line noise issues.
Unplug the power adapter from the wall, let it sit for 60 seconds, then plug the adapter back in.
If the adapter works after this 60-second "rest", you most likely have a line noise issue with your power source. You should reset the adapter periodically by repeating this moment of rest. This issue occurs when the AC adapter's "over voltage protection" feature senses ground noise and then turns off the adapter.
Some possible sources of line noise include lights with ballasts, refrigerators, or mini-refrigerators that are on the same electrical circuit as your computer. This behavior may not occur if you plug the power adapter into an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) or plug it into a different circuit.
Unless the adapter continues to exhibit this behavior on a known good outlet, it does not need to be replaced.

  • Using UK power supply internationally

    Hi,
I have a recent (jan 2010) MBP from the UK. I will need to use this machine in Brazil, I'm wondering if I need a full step-down transformer or just a power adapter?
Any advice or experiences would be appreciated.

I've used mine all over the world and it's just fine - It'll work 110 thru 240v with just the appropriate adapter.
The only thing I would add though is that if you depend on your laptop for your trip - photos/work etc. then take a spare power supply.
I've had two pop on me when I've been in less accessible areas with poorer quality of power. Just to be clear before I get hit by the Apple boys I'm sure the issue was with local power quality rather than the units themselves.

Do you want to just measure power quality or create and measure power quality problems?
    What hardware are you using?
    Power quality analyzer?
    Programmable AC power source?
    Fast Transient Generator?
Here is an example of what I do.
To create PQ problems I use a California Instruments AC source set to nominal power for the unit under test. Using Labview I program several transients consisting of fixed and random duration dropouts and surges. I also use a Schaffer Fast Transient Burst Generator to apply high frequency noise bursts directly onto power lines.
For measuring power quality I use a Voltech PM3000A power analyzer and Labview to measure everything from voltage, current, and frequency, to  harmonics and %THD

  • Using a North American PowerBook in Europe (Istanbul, Turkey)?

    Hello,
My wife is traveling to Istanbul (Turkey) with work and she'll be bringing my PowerBook 12" with her. It looks like Istanbul uses the same electricity type as France (220V at 50 Hz with a double-pinned round plug) so I don't imagine there should be any problem plugging in the PowerBook while there as long as she's using the correct adapter to convert the North American plug-type to the type needed. We were in Paris last year and had no problems, so I'm thinking it should be the same with Istanbul, but would appreciate any advice anyone may have?
And, while I've never read anything definitive to confirm this, is it true that the power bricks that come with the PowerBook actually convert the power so as to be able to use it in different parts of the world (as long as you have a plug adapter)? Like I said, I've had no problems doing this in the past, so I assume this is true, but again, just wondering if anyone knows for sure?
    Thanks!
    Kristin.

To answer this question you can always look at the label on the power supply (of any appliance, not just Macs). If it only says 120, it's only going to work on US-type power grids and you'll need a transformer too. If it says something like 100-240 volts, it's good anywhere in the world and you only need an adapter, no transformer.
My brick has labels on two sides and the voltage range is listed on only one of those, so if you don't see it, turn it around.
You might consider an adapter with a surge protector if the power quality at the destination might be unstable.

  • How to use on board counter to change sample rate dynamically on pci-6134

    Hi,
I am relatively new in LabView.
I am making power quality measurement system and I need to vary the sampling rate of my pci-6134 dynamically (all channels simultaneously). What I need is to have a constant amount of samples in each period of measured signal (grid voltage), which changes slightly all the time. Therefore I will have to measure the voltage, find its exact frequency and then adjust the sampling rate of daq accordingly. I know that there will always be some delay, but I would rather like not to go into any predictive algorithms...
I have found an information in the Forum that one of possible solutions is to use an onboard counter to change the sampling frequency but I have no idea how to make that. Can someone help me or possibly show an example?
Is there a simple way to solve that problem?
    Thanks in advance
    Andrzej

At least at a glance, the code generally looks like it ought to work.  Two thoughts:
    1. Instead of getting into PFI3 vs PFI8 routing stuff, can't you just specify "Dev1/Ctr0InternalOutput" as the AI Sample Clock source?  (You may need to right-click the terminal to get at the menu that exposes the so-called "advanced terminals").
    2. Try writing both the freq AND duty cycle  properties when you want to update the freq.  Or try using the DAQmx Write vi instead of a property node.  My past experience suggests that writing only the freq property *should* still work, but writing both isn't hard to try and may turn out to help if the behavior of your version of DAQmx differs somehow.
    -Kevin P.
P.S. Bonus 3rd thought.  I just went back to reread the thread more carefully, including your first screenshot.  I'm now thinking that maybe the hardware actually WAS behaving properly, and that you just weren't aware of it.   When you query the AI task for it's sampling rate, all the task can know is whatever rate you told it when you configured it outside the loop.  So even as you change the counter freq to change the actual hardware sampling rate on the fly, the AI task will continue to report its orig freq.  After all, how is *it* supposed to know?
Try an experiment:   Set your original freq very low so that the AI task produces a timeout error without getting all the requested samples within the 10 sec timeout window.  Run and verify the timeout.  Then run again, but after 3-5 seconds set a new frequency that will produce all those samples in another 1 sec or less.  Verify that you get the samples rather than timing out.  That should demonstrate taht the counter freq change really *does* produce a change to the hardware sample rate, even though the task property node remains unaware.

  • How can I write a file and fill it in periods?

    Hi Every body!
    I need help with this.
I have my aplication(power quality analiser),This VI obtain several varibles and make a lot of calculus and operation, to obtein others parameters in real time so my problem is Save the acquire data and calculus data into a file (similar as a report) every period(custumizable for the user in time units)
I mean make a only one file wich is write every period continuously , e.g.  Start my principal VI and this event start the write of file, past one period, make other row or colum into the same file and continue that way until we stop the principal VI.
    How can I make that?
    Thaks very much
    Best Regards

    Hi,
assuming you have your trigger (notifier or just periodically) you can append the data to a single record.
Open the file, set the file position to the end, write the data and close the file.
    Hope this helps
